Charles F. Doherty, 70

Hingham - Charles F. Doherty, 70, a resident of Hingham and Cape Cod native, died July 2, 2002, at Quincy Medical Center.
He was the husband of Elizabeth A. (Sheehan) Doherty.
Born in Hyannis, Mr. Doherty lived in South Boston prior to moving to Hingham.
He was an architectural draftsman for 35 years with Sheffeld & Bull & Finch Assoc., retiring in 1998.
Mr. Doherty served in the Navy from 1951 to 1955.
Besides his wife, survivors include many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Paul's Church in Hingham. Burial was in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

Mildred G. Dunham, 84

Centervlle - Mildred G. (Northover) Dunham, 84, a resident of Centerville, died June 30, 2002, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
She was the wife of Grant W. Dunham, who died in 1997.
Mrs. Dunham was born in Shadyside, Ohio, and raised in Indiana, Pa. She earned a bachelor's degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania , a master's degree from the University of Michigan and a doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh.
She was an English teacher at Penn Hills High School in Penn Hills, Pa., a suburb of Pittsburgh, for more than 25 years, and also directed numerous school musicals and dramatic productions. After her retirement in 1976, she continued her interest in poetry through the writing and editing of Cathedral Poets with Laurence Lee.
A resident of Cape Cod since 1976, Mrs. Dunham was a member of the Federated Church in Hyannis, where she served on various committees and was the inspiration behind a series of plays produced at the church.
Survivors include a son, William G. Dunham of South Orange, N.J.; and three grandchildren.
She was also the mother of the late Judith Ann Dunham.
A memorial service was held at the Federated Church of Hyannis.

Nadezhda Friedland-Kramova, 102

Hyannis - Nadezhda Friedland-Kramova, 102, a resident of Hyannis, died July 2, 2002.
She was born in St. Petersburg, Russia. After the Bolshevik Revolution, her parents emigrated to Berlin, then to Paris and finally settled in New York City in 1940.
She didn't follow her parents' path, staying in St. Petersburg instead. She graduated from Maria Stouyunina's gymnasium and studied in the Academy of Russian Drama and in poetry seminars.
She played lead roles in the Balaganchik theater in St. Petersburg and appeared in such movies as Grand Hotel, The Minaret of Death and Napoleon-Gaz.
Later, she worked as a journalist and translator from German, translating such books as The Spirit of the Movies, Karl Brunner and Karl, Where Are You? She wrote several plays including The Snake, The Farmer's Daughter, The Argonaut's Ship and Children of the Basement. These plays were performed in various theaters in the former Soviet Union.
Emigrating to the United States as a political refugee in 1976 with her family, she remained creative until the very end of her life. In Boston, she and other Russian émigrés organized a successful show in Russian. Each season, she worked for this show as a playwright, director, lyrics author and a stand-up comedian.
In 1989, she published a book of stories in Russian, While They Remember Us, in which she wrote of Russian intellectuals she knew such as Anna Akhmatove, Maxim Gorky, Mikhail Zoshchenko, Victor Shklovsky, Nikolai Akimov, Vladimir Mayakovosky and others. In 1998, she published a book of poetry.
Survivors include a daughter, Ludmila Shtern of Brookline; a granddaughter, and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held at the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home in Hyannis.
Burial was in Oak Neck Cemetery.

Mary Lorena McDonnell, 80

Hyannis - Mary Lorena "Rena" (Warman) McDonnell, 80, died July 2, 2002, in Cape Cod Hospital after a brief illness.
She was the wife for 41 years of Arthur P. McDonnell, who died in 1993.
Mrs. McDonnell was born in Ann Arbor, Mich., and at age 2 moved with her family to Kenmore, N.Y. During WWII, she worked for Curtiss Wright Aircraft Co., and after the war worked as a dental hygienist in Buffalo, N.Y.
She and her husband retired to Hyannis in 1984.
She enjoyed quilting and was active in craft classes at the Barnstable Senior Center.
Mrs. McDonnell is survived by a son, Michael T. McDonnell of South Dennis; and a daughter, Marianne Guzik of Hyannis.
A memorial Mass was celebrated in Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville. Interment was in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Kenneth F. Salimeno, 66

Waterford, Maine - Kenneth F. Salimeno, 66, a former Cape Cod resident, died July 2, 2002, at the Bridgton Hospital in Bridgton, Maine.
He was the husband of Martha Salimeno for 42 years.
Mr. Salimeno was born in Westerly, R.I., and attended schools in Norwich, Conn.
He moved to Balboa, Calif., in 1955, where he graduated from high school and junior college.
Mr. Salimeno was employed by Sears Roebuck & Co. for many years, retiring in 1989 in a management position.
He had been a department manager of a Sears store in Hyannis for 19 years, and resided in Barnstable and West Yarmouth.
He moved to Maine from Cape Cod in 1989.
He enjoyed reading, working in the yard, his flower gardens and playing with his grandchildren.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, Craig of Las Vegas; a daughter, Marcy Boughter of Waterford, Maine; a brother, Pat of New York; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at Christ Episcopal Church in Norway, Maine.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Joy Marie Schuchman, 41

Marstons Mills - Joy Marie (Corey) Schuchman, 41, of Marstons Mills, died July 3, 2002, at her home.
Mrs. Schuchman was born in Wareham and lived most of her life in Falmouth. She graduated from Falmouth High School in 1978.
She worked at Falmouth Hospital for 10 years as a patient service attendant. For the past year, she was employed by Community Services of Plymouth as a caregiver for developmentally disabled clients.
Surviving are a daughter, Taylor Elizabeth Schuchman of Cataumet; a son, Ryan Joseph Corey of Hyannis; a brother, Stephen Corey of Trumbull, Conn.; two sisters, Betsey Corey of Trumbull and Juliette A. Peters of Marstons Mills; her former husband, Daryl Schuchman of Cataumet; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral was held in Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home in West Falmouth.
Memorial donations may be made to the Taylor E. Schuchman Scholarship Fund, c/o Falmouth Bank, 78 County Road, No. Falmouth, MA 02556.

Gladys F. Seaman, 93

Alexandria, La. - Gladys F. (Dias) Seaman, 93, formerly of Centerville and Hyannis, died July 2, 2002, at Tioga Manor Nursing Home in Alexandria, La., where she had lived since 1998.
She was the wife of Frederick Seaman, who died in 1975.
Mrs. Seaman was born in Brockton and lived in New Bedford until moving to Hyannis in 1928.
She was a former licensed practical nurse and was activities director at Resthaven Nursing Home until retiring in 1980.
A former member of the Order of Eastern Star chapter in Cotuit, she had also been a member of the Spiritualist Church of Onset for many years. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed all kinds of handicrafts.
Surviving are two sons, Frederick Seaman of Alexandria, La., and Frank "Buzz" Seaman of Hyannis; a daughter, Louann Frimodig of Somers, Conn.; four sisters, Marjorie Stuart and Audrey Paine of Ormond Beach, Fla., Nancy Martin of New Bedford, and Helen Chaves of South Dartmouth; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held in Mosswood Cemetery in Cotuit.
Memorial donations may be made to Hyannis Rescue Squad, 95 High School Road, Hyannis, MA 02601.

Wendell Bruce Shearer, 77

Hyannis - Wendell Bruce Shearer, 77, a Hyannis resident and formerly of Gulf Breeze, Fla., died July 2, 2002, after a brief illness.
Born in Dayton, Ohio, he graduated from General Motors Institute and was a design engineer. He owned and operated Vinyl Made, which manufactured some of the first plastic bottling products in the United States, including the very first Pepsi and shampoo bottles.
He was valued by the Society of Plastics Engineers. Later in life, he enjoyed volunteer projects including Habitat for Humanity and the Christian Appalachian Project.
Survivors include a son, Kevin Shearer of Centerville; two daughters, Lori S. Connolly of Braintree and LuAnne S. Thornton Barrett of Pensacola Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Roger Shearer of Phoenix, Ariz., and Robert Shearer of Naples, Fla.; a sister, Qwendolyn Goldman of Richmond, Va.; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His daughter, Marsha Shearer Woodman, preceded him in death.
A memorial service was held at the UCC Craigville Conference Center.
Memorial donations may be made to any non-profit organization of one's choice.
