Robert E. Fortier, 77
South Attleboro- Robert E. Fortier, 77, died Tuesday, August 19, 2003 in Saint Elizabeth's Medical Center. He is the husband of Edith A. (Mancini) Fortier and the ex-husband of Edith B. Fortier.

Born May 4, 1926 in Uxbridge, MA he was a son of the late Elve and Rhenda (Rheault) Fortier.

Mr. Fortier has been a resident of South Attleboro for 20 years. He was a graduate of Saint Mary's High School, Milford and attended Fordham University in New York for two years before joining World War II. He served in the United States Marine Corp. from April 1944 to August 1946.

He was employed as a financial planner for Commonwealth Trust Mutual Funds for 15 years and also worked as an Inventory Controller at Hillsinger Corp., Plainville for 10 years.

Besides his wife and ex-wife survivors include 3 sons Robert Jr. of TX; Brian of CT; and Richard of RI; three daughters Michelle Carroll of North Attleboro; Renee Boiteau of RI; and Jacqueline Belham of North Attleboro; 1 step-son Michael Mancini of Seekonk; 2 step-daughters Jeanne Brennan of Norton and Janet Thomas of Seekonk. A sister Janice Gallagher of FL; and 22 grandchildren.

He was the step-father of the late Steven and Robert Mancini.

A Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, August 25, at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Church Street, North Attleboro. Burial with Full Veteran's Honors was held in St. Mary's Cemetery, Attleboro Falls.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Disabled American Veterans; Westcott Houghton Chapter 56; P.O. Box 643, North Attleboro, MA 02761.

Esther L. Genereux, 78
NORTH ATTLEBORO - Esther L. Genereux, 78, of North Attleboro died Sunday evening, August 17, 2003 in Pleasant Manor Nursing Home, Attleboro.

Born February 23, 1925 in Douglas, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Mavis (Chase) Genereux. Mrs. Genereux spent most of her life in Douglas and has been a resident of North Attleboro the past 20 years. She had worked for many years at Wrentham State School before retiring to North Attleboro 20 years ago.

There are no immediate survivors, she leaves a devoted friend Sheila Palmer of Attleboro.

A private graveside service was held in South Douglas Cemetery.

Clara R. Poore, 76
Sagamore - Clara R. Poore, 76, died on Tuesday, August 12, 2003 in her home. She was the wife of Edward Poore of Sagamore.

Born December 15, 1926 she was a daughter of the late John and Maria (Marchi) Cecchi.

Mrs. Poore was a graduate from Bourne High School. She was employed with the 102 Air National Guard as a Supply Clerk and Travel Accounting Clerk from which she retired from in January 1987.

Including her husband her survivors are a son Edward D. Poore of Sagamore; a sister Mary A. Koon of Sagamore; two grandchildren Mary Ann Poore and James E. Poore both of Sagamore.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Steven John Poore.

A memorial mass was held in St. Theresa's Church, Sagamore at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2003. Private burial followed in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Bertha M. (Achin) Boutgault, 90
North Attleboro- Bertha M. (Achin) Bourgault, 90, of Morin Street died Sunday afternoon, August 10, 2003 in Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Wrentham. She was the wife of the late Wilfred Bourgault.

Born July 21, 1913 in North Attleboro, she was a daughter of the late Henri and Georgianna (Magnon) Achin. Mrs. Bourgault has been a life long resident of North Attleboro and a 1931 graduate of North Attleboro High School.

She was employed as a secretary at Univis Frames for over 20 years.

Survivors include a son Paul W. Bourgault of Arizona and a daughter Pauline R. Belaski of North Attleboro; 3 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A funeral was held at 8 a.m. from the SPERRY & McHOUL FUNERAL HOME, 15 Grove St. North Attleboro, on Thursday followed by a Mass in Sacred Heart Church, 58 Church Street, North Attleboro at 9 a.m.

Visiting hours was held on Wednesday, August 13 from 5-8 p.m.

Marie Mansfield, 81
Foxboro - Marie Mansfield, 81, of 127 Mill Street died Sunday, August 3, 2003 in Maples Rehab and Nursing Center, Wrentham. She was the wife of the late John Mansfield.

Born August 12, 1921 in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Cherry) Sommerville.

Mrs. Mansfield had been a resident of Foxboro for over 50 years. She was the valedictorian at St. Margaret's School in Dorchester after which she attented Boston Teachers College and Northeastern.

She was the owner of Marie Mansfield Agency where she ran a successful insurance company for several years.

Mrs. Mansfield was involved in many organization she was the President of the Community Chess Club of Foxboro, a member of Saint Vincent DePauls Society at St. Mary's Church, a volunteer at the Walk for Hunger to support Rosie's Place, she represented the town of Foxboro when building the Trade School in Northeastern.

Mrs. Mansfield also ran an annual Hoolie on St. Patrick's Day and was an avid bicyclist.

A Funeral Mass was held at 7 p.m. in St. Mary's Church, 83 Central Street, Foxboro on Tuesday, August 12, 2003.

Marie A. Bassett, 99
North Attleboro - Marie A. Bassett, 99, died on Sunday, August 3, 2003 in Maples Rehab & Nursing Center. She was the wife of the late Christopher R. Bassett Sr.

Born July 1, 1904 in Canada, she was a daughter of the late Henri and Elmina (Parent) Gagnon.

Mrs. Bassett was a lifelong resident of North Attleboro and the owner and treasure of the Bassett Bakery for over 25 years.

Mrs. Bassett enjoyed gardening and embroidering.

Her survivors include two daughters Charlotte Ellis of Plainville and Patricia Precourt of South Yarmouth; a son Donald Bassett of North Attleboro; a step-son Christopher Bassett Jr. of Alabama; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and 1 niece and 1 nephew.

A funeral was held at 7 p.m. in the SPERRY & MCHOUL FUNERAL HOME, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro on Wednesday.

Visitation was prior to the service on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m.

Bernadette C. Bourne
Wareham - Bernadette C. Bourne, 83, died on Saturday, August 2, 2003 in the Sippican Heathcare Center, Marion. She was the wife of the late Raymond F. Bourne whom she had been married to in 1940.

Mrs. Bourne was born December 6, 1919 in Haverhill, MA to Nicholas and Catherine (Fitzgerald) DeGraffe.

Mrs. Bourne resided in Wareham for 63 years after moving just after marriage. She was a devoted homemaker. Mrs. Bourne was also a retired organist at St. Patrick’s Church in Wareham. She was a member of the Local Order of the Pocahontas.

She is survived by two sons Rodney A. Bourne of Maine and Richard I. Bourne of West Yarmouth; a daughter Helen E. Walker of Middleboro; 16 Grandchildren and 19 Great-Grandchildren.

She was the mother of the late Raymond N. Bourne and Kathleen Bourne.

A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. in the St. Patrick’s Church, 86 High Street, Wareham on Thursday, August 7, 2003.

Robert Welcome, Jr., 65
DORCHESTER - Robert Welcome, Jr., 65, of Westville Street died Saturday evening, August 2, 2003 in his home after a lengthy illness.

He was the husband of Francisca (Elena) Welcome for 50 years.

Born December 19, 1937 in Tela Atlantida, Honduras, he was a son of the late Robert and Anadine Welcome.

Mr. Welcome moved to Boston in 1991 after living most of his life in Puerto Cortes, Honduras.

He worked as a school bus monitor for the City of Boston.

In addition to his wife, survivors include four daughters,

Glenda L. Welcome,
and Lorna E. Fisher
3 sons,
Robert B. Welcome,
Steven A. Welcome,
and Eric E. Welcome;

Also survived by 12 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral was held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the McHOUL FUNERAL HOME, 354 Adams Street, Dorchester followed by burial in Fairview Cemetery, Hyde Park.

Eileen F. Fontaine, 84
PLAINVILLE - Eileen F. Fontaine, 84, of Hancock Street died in her home on Thursday, July 31, 2003.

She was the wife of Roland Fontaine.

Born May 1, 1919 in North Attleboro, she was a daughter of the late Joseph A. and Mary (Pelkey) Sirois.

Mrs. Fontaine has been a resident of Plainville for the past 21 years and formerly of North Attleboro all her life.

She was a graduate of North Attleboro High School in 1937 and retired from Whiting & Davis, Co. in Plainville. In retirement she was part owner of Miss and Mrs. Fashion Apparel store on Kelley Boulevard in North Attleboro. She was a volunteer at Caritas Southwood Hospital in Norfolk for man y years and a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. She also loved to play golf.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Joan Centazzo of Plainville; a granddaughter, Tara Lyn Erwin of Attleboro; and two great-granddaughters, Hailey Lin Erwin and Lainey Tayla Erwin.

A Mass of Christian burial was held on Tuesday, August 5 at 10am in Sacred Heart Church, Church Street, North Attleboro. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Attleboro Falls. Arrangements provided by the SPERRY & McHOUL FUNERAL HOME, North Attleboro.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Caritas Good Samaritan Hospice, 3 Edgewater Drive, Norwood, MA 02062.

Edna M. Dyment, 98
SUDBURY - Edna M. (Edgett) Dyment of Sudbury formerly of Melrose died on July 28, 2003, age 98. She was wife of the late James Dyment.

Mother of Fred Dyment and his wife, Janet of Sudbury
Also survived by three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Metrowest Hospice, 85 Lincoln Street, Framingham, MA 01702.
