George Sarris, 82, of Brockton, died Wednesday evening, August 20, 2003 at the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. He was the husband of Teresa "Terry" (Vouros) Sarris.
Born July 6, 1921 in Newport, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late John Sarris and Mary (Lafiotis) Sarris. George was raised in Newport and graduated from Newport High School.
George served in the United States Army in the 118th Engineering Group in the pacific area during World War II.
He was a mechanic for over 30 years for the Spector Freight Company. He was a member of the VFW in Randolph and the VFM and 43rd Division of Newport, Rhode Island. He has been a Brockton resident for 35 years and a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Brockton.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa "Terry" (Vouros) Sarris of Brockton; his children, John F. Sarris and his wife Denise of Brockton, Dan T. Sarris and his wife Maureen of Zephryhills, Florida, and Mary Vrancik and her husband William of Hollywood, Florida; grandfather of Kimberly Sarris, John Sarris, Jr., Samantha Sarris, Kristin Vrancik Dangel, Katherine Vrancik, Keri Vrancik, William Vrancik, Jr., and Stephen Vrancik; great grandmother of 9; brother of Rose Spotts of Ocean Park, Florida and Koula Tsaparis of Newport, Rhode Island.
Funeral from the Russell Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Monday, August 25th at 10: 00AM followed by a funeral service in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 457 Oak St., Brockton at 11: 00AM. The Rev. John Kiramarios will officiate. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours in the Russell Funeral Home Sunday 4: 00-7: 00PM.

JAMES T. KENEKLIS, JR., 67

James T. Keneklis, Jr., 67, of South Easton died Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Elaine C. (Cormier) Keneklis.
Born January 7, 1936, in Brockton, he was the son of the late James T. Keneklis and Margaret (Barry) Keneklis. James attended local schools and colleges and had lived most of his life in Brockton and has been a resident of South Easton for the last 5 years.
Mr. Keneklis was an Army Veteran and served for 3 years at Camp Fuji, Japan during the Korean Conflict. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Mr. Keneklis worked at several area businesses in management positions and was Associate Director at the Fuller Museum of Art in Brockton for over 10 years and the Northeast Document Conservation Center in Andover where he worked for 7 years as Assistant Director. Mr. Keneklis retired in 1998 after the onset of lung cancer.
He enjoyed gardening and travel and was a patron of the arts.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine C. (Cormier) Keneklis; his children, James P. Keneklis, Arlene M. Shave and her husband Prescott, and Stephen M. Keneklis all of Brockton; his grandchildren, Crystal, Stephen, and Alex; his brothers, Robert Keneklis of Brockton and Peter Keneklis of Holbrook; his sister-in-law, Clarisse Smith of Brockton. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Russell Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Saturday, Aug. 23rd at 9: 00AM followed by a funeral service in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 457 Oak St., Brockton at 10: 00AM. BESSIE H. BROWN, 70

Bessie H. (Wallace) Brown of Waltham died Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at the Brockton Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was the former wife of James R. Brown of Waltham.
Born April 2, 1933 in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Irving I. Wallace and Jeannette M. (Theiss) Wallace. She graduated from Watertown High School.
Bessie had worked a telephone operator for New England Telephone Company she was also a cafeteria manager for WBZ Channel 4 and a shift commander for the Polaroid Corporation.
She had lived in Waltham for over 12 years and enjoyed playing the lottery. She will be missed by all.
She is survived by her former husband, James R. Brown of Waltham; her children, Sandra J. Brown of Brockton, James R. Brown, Jr. of Brighton, and Jeannette M. Pettiglio of New Hampshire; her grandchildren, Carina A. Pettiglio of Watertown, Steven J. Pettiglio of Hyannis, James R. Brown, III., of Brighton, and Joseph Brown of Brighton; her great grandchild, Tyler Perry.
A memorial service will be held in the Russell Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (RT123) Brockton on Thursday at 12: 00PM. The Rev. William McCoy will officiate. Interment will be private. MARGUERITE ASCI, 77

Marguerite Asci, 77, of Brockton died Saturday, August 9, 2003 at the Brockton Hospital after a brief illness.
Born Septemeber 12, 1925, in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Guiseppe Asci and Caterina (DelGizzi) Asci.
She was a lifelong resident of Brockton and a graduate of Brockton High School, Class of 1943.
In 1947, she graduated from St. Luke's Nursing School in New Bedford and took post graduate courses at Boston College, Boston University, and Stonehill College.
She retired in 1991 from the Veteran's Affair's Medical Center in Brockton where she worked as a registered nurse for more than 31 years.
She was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Korean War as a nurse.
She was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Brockton.
She is survived by her two brothers, Dennis Asci and Samuel Asci both of Brockton; two sisters, Angelina Peterson of Brockton and Antonette Herman of Maryland and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Russell Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (RT123) Brockton on Wednesday, August 13th at 8: 00 AM thence to St. Patrick's Church, 335 Main St., Brockton where a funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of her soul at 9: 00AM. BERTA ALICIA HERNANDEZ, 56

Berta Alicia Hernandez, 56, of Brockton died Wednesday, August 06, 2003, at the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton.
Born June 20, 1947, in San Salvador, El Salvador she was the daughter of the late Gustavo Merino and Petrona Hernandez.
Miss. Hernandez was a homemaker and has been a Brockton resident for the 23 years. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
She is survived by her children, Luis A. Hernandez, David U. Hernandez, Carlos Hernandez, Jeannette Sanchez, and Dinora F. Morales; her brothers and sisters, Armando Hernandez, Manuel Hernandez, Transito Merino Hernandez, and Marta Hernandez; she is also survived by 9 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 329 East Ashland Street, Brockton on Friday, August 8th from 4: 00-8: 00PM. Private cremation will follow.

Roy R. Ek
Roy R. Ek, age 84 years, husband of the late Pearl L. (Olson) Ek, died Sunday at the Braemoor Nursing Home after a brief illness.
Born in Brockton, son of the late Alfred and Anna (Carlson) Ek, he was a 1937 graduate of Brockton High School and a 1939 graduate of Wentworth Institute. Mr. Ek served as a mechanical engineer for The General Electric Company and The Foxboro Company, from which he retired after 32 years of service. He enjoyed golf, photography, wood and metalworking.
Mr. Ek was a free mason and a long time member of St. George’s Lodge in Brockton. He was also a life long member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brockton.
He is survived by a son, Brian Ek of Brookfield, CT; two sisters, Ethel Sylvia of Brockton and Ruth Holyoke of Lutz, FL; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday August 10 at 12:00 noon in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 900 Main Street, Brockton, MA 02301. Interment will be at a later date in Pine Hill Cemetery, West
Visitation has been omitted.

Joao Lopes
Joao Lopes, aged 89 years, of Brockton, MA died unexpectedly August 1, 2003 at the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. He was the husband of the late Luisa D. Lopes.
Born February 28, 1914 in Brava Cape Verde he was the son of the late Martin Fernandes and late Maria Pereia Lopes.
Mr. Lopes has lived in Brockton for the past 23 years and was a communicant of St. Margaret’s Church.
He is survived by his children Paula D. Soares and Fortunato Soares, Julia Cardoso all of Brockton and Idilia DePina of Portugal. Grandfather of Antonio Centeio, Elena Centeio, Luisa Soares, Maria Christina Soares and Fatima DaSilva and a nephew Idilio Lopes.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at 9:00 AM in the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 647 Main St. Brockton, MA followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 AM in St. Margaret’s Church, Brockton.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, August 5, 2003 from 5-9 PM.

C. Nancy (Bates) Letham age 68 of Middleboro, MA died October 30, 2003 at her home in Middleboro after a long battle with cancer. She was the wife of William Randy Letham of 48 years.
Born August 11, 1935 in Cambridge, MA she was the daughter of the late Robert Bates and the late Laura (Fenton) Bates. She was a graduate of Cambridge High and Latin and Fisher Junior College.
Nancy lived at Oak Point Community, in Middleboro and for many years lived at 17 Sixth Ave in Scituate. She was retired from Roman Research inc. where she worked for many years.
She was a life member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Assoc, past chapter director, and she was a former Cub Scout Leader in Scituate. She also enjoyed the Oak point painting classes and readers club, enjoyed traveling thru out the country and Canada on her motorcycle attending rallies and functions.
In addition to her husband William she is survived by three sons Robert W. Letham of NH, Richard P. Letham and his wife Jane of Quincy and William R. Letham, Jr. and his wife Mikki of Japan; three daughters Suzanne G. Porter and her husband Leslie of Middleboro, Carol D. Haugstad and her husband Charles of Kingston and Laurie Burnham and her husband David of NH; a brother Richard Bates and his wife Mary of Walpole; 12 grandchildren. She was also the sister of the late Robert W. Bates and the grandmother of the late Cory Letham.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 2, 2003 at 7:00 PM in the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home 280 Bedford St. Lakeville, MA.
Visitation will take place on Sunday from 4-7 PM.
In Lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given to Hospice of Greater Taunton, 244 North Main St. Raynham, MA 02767.
