Alfred J. DeLuca
Veteran Alfred J. DeLuca, of Quincy died at Milton Hospital on Sunday, January 28, 2007 at age 84. He was born in Cambridge and was a retired letter carrier who worked out of the South Postal Annex in Boston. He was also a US Army veteran of WWII.
Mr. DeLuca was the beloved husband of the late Rose M. (Poliatti) DeLuca and the beloved father of Michael A. DeLuca of Weymouth and Maryanne Hamaty of Quincy. He is also survived by his granchildren Steven, Joseph and Michael DeLuca and Lauren and Amanda Hamaty and his dear friend Connie Iengo of Saugus.
The funeral will be from the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center on Thursday, February 1 at 10:00am. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph's Church, Quincy Point at 11:00am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Visiting hours are on Wednesday 4:00 to 8:00pm. Burial is in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Quincy.
Donations in Mr. DeLuca's name may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Research Institute 44 Binney St. Boston, MA 02215 or the American Heart Association 20 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.

Eleanor M. (Pilalas) Anderson
Eleanor M. (Pilalas) Anderson, of Weymouth, a retired retail clerk, died following a long battle with cancer on Monday, January 22, 2007 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. She had just celebrated her 70th birthday on January 5.
Ellie was born and raised in Quincy. She was a 1954 graduate of Quincy High School. She had lived in Weymouth for 40 years.
She worked in retail sales for many years at several local stores. In recent years she had worked at the Wal-Mart in Abington and at Kohl’s in Hingham.
She devoted 33 years of service to the Bingo program at St. Jerome Parish in North Weymouth.
Ellie was a fun loving woman who enjoyed the occasional scratch ticket and casino trip. She made frequent visits to the Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun Casinos as well as several trips to Las Vegas.
She also liked to bowl, garden and cook. She was known for her skill in Italian food making her own sauce, meatballs and antipasto. Even in her illness, she was able to prepare a turkey for Christmas dinner.
She was the loving and cherished mother of Teresa M. Meenan and her husband Paul of Weymouth, Laura A. Anderson and her fiancé Joseph Sharpe of Weymouth and Scott J. Anderson and his wife Paula of Brockton, the cherished “Gram” of Chad, Ross and Brynn Meenan all of Weymouth, th ebeloved daughter of the late George and Mary (DiStefano) Pilalas and the beloved sister of Virginia Burns of Whitman, Josephine DelGreco of Quincy, Donna O’Brien of Acushnet, Steven Pilalas of Tampa, FL and the late Georgiana Pilalas. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Immaculate Conception Church, East Weymouth on Friday morning at 10;00. Burial will follow in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.
Visiting hours will be held in the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. QUINCY CENTER on Thursday from 4:00 – 8:00 PM.

Robert C. Vergobbi
Robert C. Vergobbi, of Brooklyn Heights, NY, formerly of Quincy, an economist, died at the Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City on January 19, 2007. He was 80.
Mr. Vergobbi was born in Milton and raised in Quincy. He graduated from Quincy High School and Colby College. He later earned a master’s degree from Columbia University.
He was retired from IBM Corporation where he had worked as an economist. He lived and worked in Nice, France for several years but had lived in New York City for most of the past 50 years.
He was the beloved son of the late John G. and Agnes K. (Cross) Vergobbi, the brother of his twin Robert C. Vergobbi of Quincy and the late John G. Vergobbi and the uncle of Gail Tufts of Salisbury and Robert Vergobbi of Duxbury.
Services are private.

Ann M. DiAntonio
Ann M. DiAntonio, Of Quincy, a retired Secretary, died Sunday at Quincy Medical Center.
Miss DiAntonio worked for the American Presidents Line,a shipping company, for 10 years. After she retired, she worked in real estate.
A lifelong resident of Quincy, Ann enjoyed reading, knitting and traveling.
Ann is survived by two brothers, John of Quincy, and Robert of Clayton, MO.
a sister Virginia Lucier of Quincy.
She was also the sister of the late Lucy Cronin,Francis A. DiAntonio and Alfred DiAntonio.
She is the Special Aunt of mnay neices nephews and grand neices and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday January 26 at 10:30AM in St. Agatha's Church, Milton.
Visiting hours will be Thursday January 25th from 4to8PM in the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm Street,Quincy Center.
Folowers are appreciated or you may give an offering in Ann's memory to the American Cancer society 30 Speen Street,Framingham Ma. 01701.

Francis L. McCarthy
Veteran Francis L. McCarthy, of Quincy, a retired federal government inspector and a World War II U.S. Army combat veteran died suddenly on January 15, 2006 at his winter home in Naples, Florida. He was 84.
Frank was born and raised in Weymouth. He was a 1940 graduate of Weymouth High School.
He enlisted in the Army at age 20 serving with the 4th Armored Division of the 3rd Army. He participated in the D-Day invasion landing at Omaha beach days after the initial assault. From there, his unit worked its way across Europe breaking through enemy forces in relief of Bastogne, France.
Frank was seriously injured in the campaign. He was returned to the United States where he remained hospitalized for a year and a half. He was awarded the Purple Heart for the injuries he received.
Following his recovery, he went to work for the federal government as an inspector. He served as a civilian inspector of U.S. Navy programs at the South Weymouth Naval Air Station and at the Boston command of the Supervisors of Shipbuilding, Conversion, and Repair (SUPSHIPS). He retired in 1984 after 43 years of service.
A tremendous family man and devoted husband, Frank enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling. He and his wife have traveled extensively visiting Ireland, the British Isles, Europe, Croatia, Hawaii and some Caribbean islands.
Frank was a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans and was a member of the 4th Armored Division Association.
He was the devoted husband of 48 years to Marie A. (Collins) McCarthy, the loving father of Mary K. Aepelbacher of Rochester Hills, MI, David McCarthy and his wife Rosanne of Quincy and Peggy McCarthy of Malden, the loving ?Boppa? to Timothy and Bryan Aepelbacher, Collin, Gerald, Rosella, Diana, Ellisa, Francis and Chloe Marie McCarthy and the brother of Richard McCarthy of Weymouth.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Holy Trinity Parish at Most Blessed Sacrament Church on Saturday morning at 10:00. Burial with military honors will follow in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held in the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. QUINCY CENTER on Friday from 4:00 ? 8:00 PM.

Hazel G. (Budka) Small
Hazel G. (Budka) Small, of Weymouth, a retired food service manager, died on January 17, 2007 at the Southwood at Norwell Nursing Center. She was 86.
Born in Lawrence, Mrs. Small was raised in Brighton and graduated from Girls High School in 1938. She also lived in Somerville before moving to Weymouth over 50 years ago.
She worked in food service during her entire career. She held management positions with the food service departments of the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy and the Weymouth Public Schools where she served for twenty years.
She vacationed in Jefferson , Maine for many years.
Mrs. Small was the beloved wife of the late Robert C. Small, II, the beloved mother of Robert C. Small, III of Braintree and J. Patricia Catudal of Atlleboro and the cherished "Grama" to Robert W. Small of Stoughton, Kristina M. Boland of NY, Capt. Frank J. Small, USMC of NC, James R. Austin of Franklin, Kristin LaPlanca of RI, Jennifer Hart of FL, Elizabeth Catudal and Nicholas Catudal both of Attleboro, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild.
A Funeral Service will be held in the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. QUINCY CENTER on Saturday afternoon at 3:00. Cremation will follow with burial of the cremated remains to take place in Jefferson , Maine at a later date.
Visiting hours prior to the service beginning at 12:00 Noon.

George Bray, Jr.
Veteran George Bray, Jr., of Milton, a retired schoolteacher and Boston College sports fan, died on January 13, 2007 at the Colonial Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Weymouth. He was 86.
Born and raised in Quincy, George graduated from North Quincy High School in 1939, Boston College in 1943 and later earned a masters degree. He lived in Quincy for many years before moving to Washington , NH. He moved to Milton several years ago.
Following his graduation from college, he responded to the World War II war effort by serving in the United States Army and then returned home to begin a long career in teaching. He began teaching in the Hingham Public Schools before leaving to work in the Boston Public Schools. He taught for over 20 years in Boston working at Boston Technical High School and the David Ellis School in Roxbury.
With seven children to support, he also worked full time for the United States Postal Service. For over twenty years, he worked nights as a mail handler at the South Postal Annex in Boston.
George was a proud alumnus of Boston College and had followed its sports programs religiously since his days as a student. He was a senior at the school when the then undefeated football team fell in an infamous loss to Holy Cross on November 28, 1942. Despite the loss, he was one of a few BC students who followed through on plans to visit the Coconut Grove Nightclub that evening. Fortunately, he left the club before the building was consumed by a fire that killed 492 people.
As an alumnus, he maintained his loyalty to the school as a football season ticket holder for over 50 years. He followed the schools other athletic programs as well and was listening to the basketball team beat Virginia the day he died.
A loyal and devout Catholic, he was a communicant of St. Agatha Church in Milton.
George was the loving husband of Patricia (O'Donnell) and the late Barbara E. (O'Donnell) Bray, the devoted father of George, III of Kingston, Lawrence, Gerald and Dennis all of Duxbury, Richard of Carver, Christopher of Hanover and Ann Marie Petrik of Milton and the loving "Grampy" to eighteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late Nancy Delaney.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Agatha Church, Milton on Wednesday morning at 10:30. Burial with military honors will follow in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.
Visiting hours will be held in the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. QUINCY CENTER on Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00 PM.
Donations in George's memory may be made to the Friends of the Milton Council on Aging 10 Walnut St. Milton, MA 02186.

H. Kathrin (Donaher) Burgess
H. Kathrin (Donaher) Burgess, of Quincy passed away at the Stonehedge Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center in West Roxbury on Sunday, January 14, 2006 at age 87. She was a homemaker, born in Quincy where she was raised and educated and was a lifelong resident. She was a graduate of the Bridgewater Normal School.
Kathrin was the daughter of the late W. Henry and Mabel (Reardon) Donaher and the wife of the late William A. Burgess. She is survived by her daughters Rosemary B. Daley of Quincy and Marcia A. Garber and her husband Kenneth also of Quincy. She is the grandmother of Sarah and Kristen Garber and the sister of Daniel Donaher of Boston and the late Mary Geogan.
There will be a Funeral Service held in the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm Street, Quincy Center on Wednesday, January 17 at 11:00am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours are omitted. Burial is in Mount Wollaston cemetery.
