Korecki, Stanley J.
Stanley J. "Stan the Man" Korecki, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at the age of 71. Born in Cambridge where he was raised and educated, he lived on the South Shore for most of his life. A Vietnam veteran, he worked as a printer for Peacock Press before retiring and volunteered for Miracles on Saturdays and Meals on Wheels. Stan was a friend of Bill W.
The beloved son of the late Stanley and Mary Korecki, he is survied by his nephews, Robert J. Casey and Edward G. Casey, both of Stoneham as well as several other nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial visitation at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center on Friday, July 31 from 4:00 to 8:00pm. Family and friends are invited.

Villard, Irene Brenda (O'Brien)
Irene Brenda (O'Brien) Villard of Quincy died at home with her family by her side on Tuesday, July, 28, 2009. Born and raised in Quincy, Mrs. Villard was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Weymouth and was a member of St. John's Mothers Club and Altar Guild, as well as a former prefect of the Ladies Sodality. For 20 years, Mrs. Villard enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Southern CA, Las Vegas, AZ, Walt Disney World, New Orleans, the Southeast US and Caribbean cruises. In later years she found enjoyment in day trips to Mohegan Sun. Mrs. Villard embraced her Irish roots with her love of Irish Music on the radio every weekend, never tiring of her favorite singer, Daniel O'Donnell. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.
The beloved wife for 57 years of Vincent J. Villard, she is also survived by her two daughters, Eleanor O. and BrendaMarie Villard of Quincy, her dear friends, Frances Davidson of Nashua, NH and Cynthia Green of Squantum, along with several cousins. Mrs. Villard was the daughter of the late Henry J. and Eleanor O"Brien and sister of the late Eleanor Marie O'Brien.
A visiting hour will be held at the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home 74 Elm St. Quincy Center on Friday, July 31 from 10:00 to 11:00am. Family and friends are invited. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on at St. John the Baptist Church at 11:00am Burial is in Pine Hill Cemetery
Memorial donations may be made to the VNA of Boston, 500 Rutherford St. Charlestown, MA 02120.

MARTHA M. (PRINTISS) MURPHY, age 80, a resident of Hingham for the past 50 years, died on Monday, Feb. 26th, her 52nd wedding anniversary, at the Quincy Medical Center. Born in Boston, Mrs. Murphy was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Weymouth and a 1942 graduate of Simmons College. During the World War II years, she served as a civilian volunteer in Washington , DC. A teacher by profession, her early positions were at the old Quincy High School, but her more lengthy tenure was at the Hingham High School in the late 1970's and 1980's. Her family dates back to the Revolutionary War. She was a noted horticulturist and long term member of the Hingham Garden Club. Mrs. Murphy's devotion to horticulture was reflected in the family gardens in Hingham Centre, in her elaborate arrangements and in her thirty years of active involvement in garden club activities.
She leaves her husband, Thomas H. Murphy of Hingham and was the mother of Stephen P. of Washington , DC, Richard G. of Georgetown, MA, Shaun M. of Herndon, VA, Robert C. of Manomet and the late Thomas H. Murphy, Jr. Sister of Joan McLaughlin of Elborn, Illinois. Also survived by 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 8th at 10 AM at St. Paul's Church, Hingham Square.
Visiting hours at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham on Wednesday, March 7th from 5-7 PM only.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her memory to the Pine Street Inn, 444 Harrison Ave., Boston, MA 02118 or to Rosie's Place, 889 Harrison Ave., Boston, MA 02118.
The interment in the Hingham Centre Cemetery is to be private.

PAUL NELSON VONCKX, age 95, a longtime Hingham resident, died on Tuesday, Feb. 6th at the Life Care Center of the South Shore in Scituate after a long illness. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he was a resident of Hingham from 1946 to 1959 and again from 1973 to 1994. Paul graduated from Harvard College in the Class of 1931. He was a fine athlete-football player, wrestler, golfer and internationally renowned hammer thrower. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and spent his entire civilian working career in the shoe business in Greater Boston and Auburn, NY. His wife of nearly 60 years, the former Alice (Walker) Vonckx, died in 1993. Paul served as a member of the Hingham Advisory Board and as Chairman of the Hingham Personnel Board. He was an active member of the Hingham Congregational Church, singing in the choir and serving as the Chairman of its Endowment Committee. He leaves a daughter, Anne V. Weaver and her husband Wayne of Scituate, MA a son, Paul N. Vonckx, Jr. of Seattle, WA and six grandchildren. Paul was a gifted raconteur and an accomplished wordsmith with a fine sense of humor. He was a gentle man and a gentleman; his family will miss him greatly.
A Memorial Service will be conducted on Thursday, March 8th at 2 PM at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham.
Rather than flowers, remembrances may be made in his memory to the charity of one's choice.
The interment is to be private.

ESTHER GRACE (MUIRHEAD) APPLETON , age 89, of Mansfield, MA, died on Monday, March 5th at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston after a brief illness. Esther was born in Taunton, MA on Feb. 22, 1912. She was a graduate of Hingham High School and in 1934 graduated from Wheelock College with a degree in education. Wheelock College had a very positive influence on her life. After graduation, she taught kindergarten at the American University in Beruit, Lebanon for three years. During this time she traveled extensively throughout the Middle East and Europe. She met her husband, John (Jack) Appleton on the Queen Mary, moved to Los Angeles, and was married in 1939. Esther graduated with her Masters in Education from the University of Southern California and taught elementary school in Los Angeles. She was the Principal of the Beachy Avenue Elementary School in Los Angeles for many years until her retirement in 1972. She spent her retirement traveling to India, China and Europe.
In 1998, she returned to Massachusetts to be close to family. She resided at the Village at Willow Crossings in Mansfield.
Wife of the late John Richard Appleton, she was the great aunt of Wendi Stewart Levine of Mansfield, MA and Lisa Stewart of Bridgewater, MA. She was the sister of the late Miriam (Muirhead) Baker-Strange. Also survived by 2 great great nieces and 1 great great nephew.
A Funeral Service will be conducted on Friday, March 9th at 10:30 AM at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham, MA.
Visiting hours and flowers omitted by request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wheelock College, Development Office, 200 The Riverway, Boston, MA 02115 in memory of Esther Muirhead Appleton.
The interment in the High Street Cemetery, Hingham will take place in the spring.

MIRIAM B. (HOVEY) KRESS, age 97, of Hingham, died on Tuesday, Feb. 6th at the Queen Anne Nursing Home in Hingham. Wife of the late Albert H. Kress, she is survived by two daughters; June B. Pratt of Hingham and Laura Mae van Westendorp of Raleigh, NC. Also survived by 3 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be conducted on Saturday, April 21st at 2 PM at the Hingham Congregational Church, 366 Main St., Hingham,

MARY D. SNYDER, age 85, a resident of Hingham, MA since 1977, died at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, MA on Sunday, April 1st. Born in Schuylkill Township, Pennsylvania , Miss Snyder spent most of her life there and was a licensed practical nurse for many years at the Resthaven Hospital in Schuylkill Haven, PA. During her years in Hingham she was a member of the Hingham Congregational Church and its Women's Guild, a member of the Hingham Women's Club and a member of the Senior Fellowship of the South Shore Baptist Church also in Hingham.
She was the aunt of Myrtus G. "Bunny" Wright of Hingham and great aunt of Ruth Ann Hendrickson of Lincoln, MA, Beverly E. W. Godfrey of Wellesley, MA and Mary Chris Richmond of Hingham. Also survived by one great great niece and 6 great great nephews. Sister of the late Ruth L. Garber and the late Grace Paige.
A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, April 7th at 11 AM at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham.
Visiting hours at the Downing Chapel on Friday from 4-8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the American Diabetes Association, 40 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
The interment will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Tamaqua, PA on Monday, April 9th.

JEANETTE (HANSEN) STREET, age 79, a longtime Hingham resident, died on Thursday, March 29th at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth after a brief illness.
Born in Nekoosa, Wisconsin, she was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin.
Wife of the late Russell B. Street, Jr., MD, she is survived by three sons; Dana B. Street of Portland, Maine, Russell T. Street of West Roxbury and Peter H. Street of Hingham.
Also survived by her longtime companion, Leonard Pagnotto of Medfield.
A private family service will be held in her honor. There are no visiting hours and the interment is to be private.

WILLIAM E. KELVIE, III, age 81, a Braintree resident for 37 years, died on Thursday, August 9th at Harbor House Nursing Center in Hingham after a long illness. Mr. Kelvie was born in Bristol, Connecticut. He grew up in Bristol and Torrington, Ct. and attended Rensselaer Polytechnical Institute in Rensselaer, NY and graduated from Bentley College in Waltham. He served with the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He was an accountant by profession, first, with the Pratt & Whitney Co. in Hartford, CT and then with the Raytheon Corp. in Braintree from 1958 until his retirement in 1985. He also lectured at Northeastern University on Mathematical Theory and Budget Formulas and published several articles on Cost Accounting and Mathematical Formulas. Mr. Kelvie had a lifelong love of music and was an accomplished pianist. He also was a member of the Braintree Knights of Columbus and the American Legion in Braintree.
Husband of the late Anna (Lehr) Kelvie, he is survived by 4 children; Anne M. McNally of Hingham, William E. Kelvie, IV of Chevy Chase, MD, Patricia L. Fair of Scituate and Mary K. Lyman of Andover. He also was the father of the late Katherine E. Kelvie. Brother of Jean Roscoe of Torrington, CT, Thomas Kelvie of Hillsboro, CA and the late John Kelvie. Also survived by 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 13th at 10:30 AM at the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, where he was a daily communicant, 854 Washington St., Braintree.
Visiting hours at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham on Sunday from 5 to 8 PM only.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Foundation for Healthy Family Development, 80 Washington Square, Suite D26, Norwell, MA 02061.
The interment will be in the Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.

GEORGE WEEKS PIERCE , age 93, a longtime Hingham resident, a retired partner of Arthur Anderson & Co. and the first managing partner of the firm's Boston office, died at his residence on Thursday, August 2nd.
Mr. Pierce was born and raised in Belleville, Kansas. He graduated from Harvard College in 1930 and from the Harvard Business School in 1932. He was the secretary of his Business School class at the time of his death.
Mr. Pierce was active in Hingham town affairs, having served on both the School Committee and the Municial Light Board. He was a trustee and treasurer of the Hingham Public Library for more than twenty years. He was proud of his success in persuading a Hingham Town Meeting to allocate funds to sustain Sunday afternoon operations of the Library following a decision by the Library Trustees to close on Sundays throughout the year. He was also the volunteer auditor and financial advisor to the Hingham Visiting Nurse Association, which selected him as "Volunteer of the Year" in 1987.
Mr. Pierce was active in professional accounting organizations and was a past president of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants. He was a former member of the Cohasset Golf Club and served as its president from 1953 to 1956. He was also a member of the Hingham Yacht Club and was the owner of "Sunflower", a sailboat on which he and his wife cruised extensively along the eastern coast of the United States and in Western Europe, including a trip across France through the French canals.
He is survived by his wife, Evangeline (Dennis) Pierce, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, who he married in New York City on July 27, 1940. He also leaves two daughters, Margaret Willard and Mary Eng, and a son, John Pierce all of Jamaica Plain, as well as seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also survived by two nieces, Betsy Mercer of Sun City, Arizona and Suzanne Hubbard of Bluffton, South Carolina, as well as by a niece of Mrs. Pierce, Elizabeth Sanderson of Jamaica Plain, who has long been a member of the family and her daughter.
Visiting hours and flowers omitted by request. Rather than flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Hingham Public Library, 66 Leavitt St., Hingham, MA 02043.
A Memorial Service will be conducted on Sunday, August 12th at 3:30 PM at the Old Ship Church, 90 Main St., Hingham. The interment is to be private.

JEAN (PHILLIPS) LITTLEFIELD, age 96, a Hingham resident for many years, died on Sunday, August 5th at the Quincy Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada, Mrs. Littlefield was a registered nurse by profession and a member of the Hingham Women's club, the Hingham Neighborhood Garden Club and the Hingham Senior Citizens Club. She was the wife of the late Roger P. Littlefield. A private graveside service was conducted at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in West Acton, MA.

BAKER of Melbourne, Florida, formerly of Hingham, July 2, 2001. Frederick George Baker, age 77. Son of the late George Baker and the late Lucy P. (Beck) Baker.
A graveside service will be conducted on Friday, Oct.19th at 2 PM at the Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.

ELIZABETH (ROGERS) CRANE, age 86, a Hingham resident for the past 53 years, died on Wednesday, Dec. 12th at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth after a brief illness. Mrs. Crane was born in Schenectady, New York where she spent her early life.
She was a graduate of Simmons College in Boston and the New England Deaconess School of Nursing also in Boston. She worked as a nurse in and around the South Shore when she first came to Hingham and was also associated with the Hingham Visiting Nurse Association. She is especially known in the Hingham area as a florist who owned and operated Lovell Florist in Hingham from 1962 to 1991 and then Rose Cottage Designs in Hingham from 1996 to the present. Mrs. Crane was the original Welcome Wagon Hostess in Hingham and was a member of the Hingham Yacht Club, the Hingham Historical Society, the Hingham Garden Club, the Neighborhood Garden Club of Hingham, was a past president of the Hingham Womens' Club and was a member and past president of the Federation of Womens' Clubs of America. She also was an avid gardener, handcrafter and reader.
Wife of the late Laurence E. Crane, she is survived by two daughers; Jacqueline A. Caulfield of Hingham and Deborah E. D'Antonio of Coventry, RI. Sister of Corinne Bordwell of Schenectady, NY. Grandmother of Christopher M. Goodman of Pembroke and Jennifer A. Caulfield of Hingham. Great grandmother of Samantha Elizabeth Goodman of Pembroke. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services Saturday, Dec. 15th at 1 PM at the Hingham Congregational Church, 378 Main St., Hingham.
Visiting hours at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham on Friday from 4-7 PM.
Donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
Interment will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hingham.
