Theophile J. Bernhardt, 74; former resident, labor-relations attorney

Theophile J. Bernhardt of North Falmouth, formerly of Wellesley, died May 24, 1997, at his home after a long illness. He was 74.

Mr. Bernhardt was born in Lowell. He graduated from Boston College High School, from Boston College in 1944 and Boston College Law School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

A longtime resident of Wellesley before moving to North Falmouth in 1985, Mr. Bernhardt was a winter resident of Marco Island, Fla. He was the husband of Rita V. (Freeburn) Bernhardt.

Mr. Bernhardt worked in labor relations for John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company for 37 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Pocasset Country Club. He was Triple Eagle and Golden Eagle of Boston College.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Theophile J. Bernhardt III of Bedford; a daughter, Rita Partridge of Norfolk; four grandchildren; and a brother, Carol Bernhardt of West Yarmouth. He was the father of the late Patricia M. Bernhardt.

A funeral Mass was said at Saint Elizabeth Seton Church, North Falmouth, on May 28. Interment was in Holyhood Cemetery, Brookline. Arrangements were by the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, West Falmouth.

Vera E. Parks, 80; former resident, club and church member

Vera E. (Brastow) Parks of Chatham, formerly of Wellesley Hills, died May 27, 1997, at her home after a long illness. She was 80.

Born in Brewer, Maine, she was a graduate of Brewer High School, where she was a National Honor Society member. She graduated in 1939 from the University of Maine with a bachelor of arts degree in home economics.

For a period of time she taught home economics in Presque Isle, Maine, High School and in Pittsfield, Maine, High School. She was then employed as a home economist in the Bureau of Human Nutrition and Home Economics in the research center for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Beltsville, Md.

Mrs. Parks was a resident of Wellesley Hills from 1954 to 1990. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Wellesley Hills, the Wellesley Country Club, the Wellesley Hills Woman's Club, and the Newton-Wellesley Hospital Aid Association.

She and her husband, Lewis H. Parks, moved to Chatham in 1990. They had previously been summer residents of Orleans since 1960. They also had a winter residence in Vero Beach, Fla. Mrs. Parks was a member of Eastward Ho! Country Club in Chatham and of the Moorings Club in Vero Beach.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a son and daughter, Robert L. Parks of Tampa, Fla., and Nancy Camis of South Deerfield; and two granddaughters, Jessica M. and Lindsay A. Camis.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 31, at 2 p.m. in the Church of the Holy Spirit, Monument Road, Orleans. Visiting hours are on Friday, May 30, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Nickerson Funeral Home, Crowell Road, Chatham. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley, will be on Monday, June 2, at 2 p.m.

Constance Rathbun, 91; longtime resident, children's case worker

Constance Rathbun of Wellesley died May 5, 1997, at her home after a protracted illness. She was 91.

She was born Aug. 24, 1905, in Mystic, Conn., to Judge Herbert W. Rathbun, prominent on the Rhode Island bench, and his wife Alice Taylor, daughter of Lewis Arnold, former owner of the old Westerly Woolen Mills.

Miss Rathbun attended Westerly (R.I.) High School, graduating in 1923; Wellesley College, where she majored in philosophy and earned a bachelor of arts degree in 1927; and Harvard University, where she earned a master's degree in psychology. She later acquired an additional master's degree at the Smith School of Social Work.

She taught at Pine Manor Jr. College for several years, and for a year at Colby Jr. College (now Colby-Sawyer) in New London, N.H.

Miss Rathbun served an internship at the Judge Baker Child Guidance Center in Boston and then went on to the Children's Aid Association, now the Boston Children's Services. For more than 30 years she arranged for adoptions there, and then did psychiatric case work, ending her career at that institution as a supervisor and researcher.

She published many articles in professional journals and appeared in the first edition of "Who's Who in American Women."

After retirement, Miss Rathbun continued as therapeutic consultant at the Garber Children's State Hospital in Massachusetts. She also started a private practice providing therapy to disturbed adults, before succumbing to the debilitating illness, multiple sclerosis, which kept her bedridden for more than 25 years.

She is survived by two sisters: Katherine Hoxsie of Pawcatuck, Conn., and Nancy Steadman of Westerly, R.I.; 10 nieces and nephews; and a former ward, Ann MacKinnon Kucera of Garland, Maine. She was predeceased by a brother, Herbert W. Rathbun, Jr. The family notes that "she is mourned also by the many nurses and homemakers who tended her cheerful bedside for so long."

The funeral service is private, with arrangements by J.S. Waterman and Sons-Waring Funeral Home of Wellesley. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to the Westerly Public Library, where she held her first employment as a book aide while still in high school. The address is Westerly, RI 02891.

Donald Babson memorial service

A memorial service and celebration of the life of Donald P. Babson will be held Friday, May 30, at 7:30 p.m. in Knight Auditorium at Babson College, Wellesley.

Mr. Babson died April 21, 1997, at age 73. He had been chairman of Babson-United Investment Advisors, Inc., and chairman and president of United Business Service. He was active in business, college, and civic affairs.

Memorial contributions may be made to the institution or charity that best represents one's affiliation with Donald P. Babson.

T. Frank Willey, 84; former pharmacist, drug store owner

T. Frank Willey of Camarillo, Calif., formerly of Wellesley, died May 13, 1997, at his home. He was 84.

Born Nov. 23, 1912, in Wellesley, Mr. Willey was a pharmacist and was the owner of the Willey Drug Store in Newton Highlands, which was started by his father in 1914.

Mr. Willey was active in many community and business activities in the Newton Highlands and Framingham area, and had been an elected member of the Framingham Town Council.

A resident of Camarillo for the past 18 years, he was involved in the many activities of the Rancho Adolfo Mobile Home Park.

He is survived by a son, Thomas F. Willey Jr. of Aliso Viejo, Calif.; two daughters, Patricia Baxter of West Lake Village, Calif., and Barbara Vargas of Van Nuys, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Kimberly, Scott and Ryan Willey.

A memorial service was held May 17 at the Conejo Mountain Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Barbara Child officiating. Private interment services will be at the Conejo Mountain Memorial Park.

Memorial donations may be directed to a local hospice or charity of one's choice.

Marion D. Todesco, 76; former resident; homemaker

Marion D. (Dumas) Todesco of South Natick, formerly of Wellesley, died April 4, 1999, at the Beaumont Rehabilitation Center in Natick. She was 76.

Born in Natick, she was the daughter of the late Frank H. and Elizabeth (Farley) Dumas.

Mrs. Todesco was a resident of Wellesley before moving to South Natick. A homemaker, she was the wife of the late Anthony P. Todesco.

She is survived by a son, Philip A. Todesco of South Natick; two sisters, Phyllis O'Connor of Framingham and Marjorie Balboni of Wellesley; a brother, Francis Dumas of Yarmouth; and two grandchildren, Anthony and Amanda Todesco of South Natick.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Sacred Heart Church in South Natick on April 6. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley. Arrangements were by the George F. Doherty and Sons Funeral Home, Wellesley.

Memorial donations may be made to the Joslin Clinic, One Joslin Place, Boston.

Albert F. Paradee; U.S. Marine Corps veteran

Albert F. Paradee, 67, of Marblehead, died Friday at Salem Hospital. He was the husband of Joan (Banks) Paradee and the son of the late Alfred and Laura (Cote) Paradee.

Mr. Paradee was born in New York City and spent the last 35 years on Kenneth Road in Marblehead. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons, John Paradee of Australia and Gerald Paradee of Marblehead; a daughter, Cheryl Paradee of Swampscott; a half sister, Frances Sanders of California; and one granddaughter, Tanya Paradee of Swampscott.

Services will be private.

Ethel Moore Hutchinson; born in Marblehead in 1891

Ethel Moore (Sweet) Hutchinson of Marblehead died Friday, June 27, in Greenery Nursing Home in Danvers. She was 106 years old. She was the wife of the late Clinton I. Hutchinson Sr. and mother of the late Clinton I. Hutchinson Jr. and Margaret Hussey.

Born in Marblehead June 18, 1891, she was the daughter of William H. and Julia B. (Moore) Sweet.

She was educated in Marblehead at a home school in Glover Square; he teacher was Miss Merritt, who owned the house. She was employed as a runner in the old shoe factories in Marblehead. She used to take the shoes back to the factory after the soles had been sewn on them at other locations. She enjoyed braiding rugs, crocheting and playing the organ.

She is survived by her loving daughter-in-law, Patricia Hutchinson of Marblehead; her grandchildren Debra Fay and Dana and Douglas Hutchinson of Salem; David and Diane Hutchinson of Marblehead and Thomas Hussey of Albuquerque, N.M. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, in Marblehead's Waterside Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to The Marblehead Visiting Nurse Association, Widger Road, Marblehead, Mass., 01945.

Frances E. McNulty; family in Marblehead

Mrs. Frances E. (Finnegan) McNulty, 82, of Marblehead, wife of the late Albert J. McNulty, died early Tuesday, June 24, in the Lafayette Convalescent Home in Marblehead.

Born and raised in Salem, daughter of the late William M. and Winifred (McIntyre) Finnegan, she received her education in the Salem school system and was a graduate of Salem High School, class of 1932.

Surviving her are a daughter, Jane E. McNulty, and a son, Dr. Albert F. McNulty, both of Marblehead; a sister, Mary V. Richards of Danvers; and several nieces and nephews. She was also sister of the late Walter R. Finnegan and William Finnegan.

Her funeral service was held in the O'Donnell Funeral Home, 46 Washington Square in Salem on June 26. As requested, there were no visiting hours. Burial was in Waterside Cemetery in Marblehead. Expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the charity of one's choice.

Margaret M. Preble; born in Marblehead

Margaret M. Preble, 83, of Largo, Fla., died June 23 at Morton Plant Hospital Rehab Center.

She was born in Marblehead and moved to Largo in 1981. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Patrick's Church in Largo.

She is survived by her husband, Francis W. Preble of Largo; a son, Edward F. Preble of Salem and several nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service at 8:30 a.m. July 24 at Our lady, Star of the Sea Church in Marblehead

Donations in her memory may be made to the Hospice of Florida Suncoast, 300 East Bay Drive, Largo, Fla., 33770-9850.

Martha Louise Lloyd; active member of St. Stephen's

Martha Louise Lloyd of Marblehead, 92, died June 27 at the Lafayette Convalescent Home. Born in Everett on July 29, 1904, she was the daughter of the late Anna and Hilding Johnson. She was the wife of the late Arthur R. Lloyd.

Mrs. Lloyd was a resident of Marblehead for more than 55 years. She was a former bookkeeper and assisted in the family business at the Nautilus Tearoom and guest house on Front Street. She was an active member of St. Stephen's United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Lloyd is survived by her two daughters, Sylvia L. Swain of Marblehead, Nancy L. Antioch of Holder, Fla.; five grandchildren, Gary M. Swain of Marblehead, Amanda L. Sylvester of Salem, Peter Berry of Marblehead, Jeffrey Berry of Marblehead and Nathaniel Berry of Brockton; eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and 2 nephews.

Visiting hours will be Wednesday, July 2, from 7-9 p.m. at Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home on Elm Street in Marblehead. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 3, at St. Stephen's United Methodist Church, 67 Cornell Road, Marblehead, with interment at Waterside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Scholarship Fund of the Lafayette Convalescent Home, 25 Lafayette Street in Marblehead.
