Catharine D. (Smith) Hutchinson, 78
Thursday, August 26, 2004

MATTAPOISETT - Catharine D. (Smith) Hutchinson, 78, formerly of Lexington, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, at Sippican Healthcare Center after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Edwin Fuller Hutchinson.

She was born in Amsterdam, N.Y., the daughter of the late Leland and Catharine (Finlayson) Smith. Mrs. Hutchinson lived in Lexington for many years and summered near the ocean in Chatham and Mattapoisett for many years before becoming a permanent resident of Mattapoisett in 1980.

Mrs. Hutchinson was a member of the Mattapoisett Congregational Church. She was also a member of the Mattapoisett Women's Club, the Mattapoisett Garden Club and the Lexington Book Club.

She enjoyed history, politics and art. Gardening and swimming were among her favorite activities.

She is survived by two sons, Leland C. Hutchinson of Wauwatosa, Wis., and James M. Hutchinson of Plainville; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Aug. 25, at the Mattapoisett Congregational Church. Interment was private in Westview Cemetery, Lexington.

Albert Williamson

Albert C. Williamson, 92, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at his home. He was the husband of Marilyn Williamson, and the late Ruth (Mottau) Williamson..

He was born in Somerville on Jan. 19, 1913, the son of the late Albert C. and Josephine A. (Bryant) Williamson. He graduated from St. John's Preparatory School in Danvers. He then received his master's in art at Boston College, a master's in education at Bridgewater State College, and a certificate in advanced personnel psychology at Harvard University.

He served five years in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Air Corps.

Mr. Williamson was a teacher and guidance counselor for 10 years in Somerville Public Schools, a vocational and educational psychologist at Harvard University's Guidance Center for three years, and director of Pupil Personnel Services at the Stoughton Public Schools for 21 years. For many years, he served as an adjunct professor at Northeastern University Graduate School of Education, as well as a counselor at Boston University and Harvard University, and president of the Massachusetts School Counselors Association. When he retired from the Stoughton schools, he became the executive secretary of the Massachusetts School Counselors Association for 13 years.

In addition to his professional activities in the academic world, he was a co-founder of the Old Colony Mental Health Association, and served as its president and a director. He was the former president of the South Shore Guidance Association; a member of the Area Board of Mental Health and Retardation; served on various committees such as the Governor's Advisory Council on Education; the M.A.C.E. Committee in Teacher Certification and Pupil Personnel Services; the Task Force on Massachusetts Statewide Educational Assessment. He was also a consultant with the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission, and the Bureau of Hearings and Appeals of the Social Security Administration.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Albert Williamson of Westwood, Michael Williamson of Gainesville, Ga., and Gerald Williamson of Los Angeles; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Paula Cupp of Lexington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Phillip, Leonard and Charles Williamson.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 12, in St. Brigid Church in Lexington. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery, Lexington.

Martha Nord
Thursday, March 10, 2005

Martha E Nord, 92, of Lexington and Ogunquit, Maine, formerly of Boston, died March 6, 2005, at the VNA Hospice Home in Reading. She was the wife of the late Herlof R. Nord.

Born in Boston, she lived in Lexington for 34 years. She graduated from the Boston Girls School and attended Boston Business School.

She enjoyed cribbage, loved nature and the beach in Ogunquit, Maine.

Mrs. Nord is survived by a son, Alan R. Nord and his wife Diane of Acton; a daughter, Arlene N. McGrath and her husband Gerald of Lexington and three grandchildren.

Funeral services, under the direction of the Douglass Funeral Home, are private,.

Memorial donations in her name may be made to the VNA of Middlesex East Visiting Nurse Hospice, 607 North Ave., Suite 17, Wakefield, MA 01880.

Fran Delaney
Thursday, March 10, 2005

Fran Delaney, 54, of Lexington, formerly of Medford, died Monday, March 7, 2005. He was the husband of Janet (Barretto) Delaney.

He was born in Somerville, the son of Francis J. and Edna F. (Osgood) Delaney.

His first job was at Digital Equipment Corporation and as Digital grew, Fran's career grew with it, from technician to supervisor, manager and eventually vice president of Customer Services for the Americas. His career continued even through the integration between Digital and Compaq.

Mr. Delaney always said that Digital was a special place made up of a network of special people. That network of colleagues became more like a large family when they, along with Fran's friends, played a key role in the success of the Fran Delaney Foundation (www.frandelaney.com) which has raised over $1.5 million for ALS research in the four years since it was founded. Major grants have been made to Massachusetts General Hospital, Johns Hopkins Medical Center and the ALS Therapy Development Foundation.

As a father and husband, he instilled values of love, honesty, integrity, courage and strength not realizing what an important role these values would play when he was faced with the challenge of ALS, Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Fran showed his friends and family how to face adversity and do "whatever it takes" to make a difference.

Besides his wife of 32 years, Mr. Delaney is survived by three children, Karen, Brian and Kelly and one grandson.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, March 11, at 10 a.m. at St. Brigid's Church in Lexington. Calling hours will be held today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Road, Lexington. Interment will be in Westview Cemetery, Lexington.

Nancy McAuliffe

Nancy B. McAuliffe, 72, formerly of Bedford and Belmont, died Saturday, March 5, 2005, at Emerson Hospital in Concord. She was the wife of Eugene V. McAuliffe.

She was born in Morris, Ill., on Sept. 16, 1932, the daughter of the late Jacob A. and Lilla (Smith) Blankinship. Mrs. McAuliffe was raised in Belmont and was a graduate of Belmont High School and Lesley College, Class of 1954.

She began teaching in the Braintree school system and left her position after her marriage in 1955 to raise her family. In later years, Mrs. McAuliffe returned to work as a school cafeteria manager in Bedford, and was also a cook at the Concord Home for the Aged.

Mrs. McAuliffe lived in Bedford for 40 years before moving to Groton in December of 2004. While in Bedford, she was a member of St. Michael's Church and a teacher in the CCD program. She was also a member of the Bedford Women's Club and many years ago was an assistant coach with the Bedford youth hockey program.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sons, Paul K. McAuliffe of Canterbury, N.H., Robert J. McAuliffe of Melbourne, Fla., Geoffrey P. McAuliffe of Townsend, and John W. McAuliffe of Billerica; four grandchildren; and a brother, Allen W. Blankinship of Dunnellon, Fla.

A funeral Mass was celebrated March 8, at St. Michael's Church in Bedford. Burial was private.

June Lyons
Thursday, March 10, 2005

June F.R. (Boquist) Lyons, 79, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at Lowell General Hospital.

She was born in Worcester on June 3, 1925, the daughter of the late Reynold and Florence R. (Wippert) Boquist. Mrs. Lyons attended local schools and later attended nursing school.

Mrs. Lyons was a communicant of the Church of Our Redeemer in Lexington.

She was employed as a nurse for many years, and later in life, she worked as a waitress at the former Cottage Crest.

She is survived by two daughters, June Kurosaka and her husband, Bob, of Lexington, and Patricia Lyons of Wrentham; and three grandsons.

Arrangements were under the care of the McDonough Funeral Home, Lowell.

Donald Colpitts

Donald E. Colpitts, 91, formerly of Lexington, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005. He was the husband of the late Madge (Browning-Banta) Colpitts.

He was born in New Brunswick, Canada, the son of the late Arthur and Mary (Fawcett) Colpitts.

Mr. Colpitts was a longtime employee of the Arthur D. Little research company in Cambridge. He was one of the first technicians in the field of cryogenics during the 1960s. He traveled throughout the world as a field service trainer.

He is survived by his children, Peter Colpitts and his wife, Patty Edgarton, of Temple, N.H., Penny Warren and Elery LeBlanc of Gloucester, Pamela Demko and her husband, Paul, of Berlin, and Paul Colpitts of Berlin; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were private. A celebration of Mr. Colpitts life is planned for the spring.

Mary Cushman
Thursday, March 10, 2005

Mary Wyatt (Scott) Cushman, formerly of Belmont, died Saturday, March 5, 2005. She was the wife of the late Gardner Cushman.

She is survived by her children, Nancy Wyatt Fairbanks of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Lee L. Lee of Andover, G. Scott Cushman of Marietta, Ga., and Robert Cushman II of Moraga, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., March 12, in the Bigelow Chapel at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, 580 Mt. Auburn St., Cambridge. Relatives and friends are invited.

Marjorie Barrett
Thursday, March 10, 2005

Marjorie Hilda Barrett, 94, a lifelong resident of Lexington, died Thursday, March 3, 2005, at Pine Knoll Nursing Home in Lexington. She was the wife of the late John E. Barrett.

Mrs. Barrett was born Aug. 17, 1910, daughter of the late Alice A. (Rose) and Harry Osgood. She was a 1929 graduate of Lexington High School and for 25 years she was employed at the Lexington Savings Bank and Boston Federal Savings Bank until her retirement in 1971 at the age of 71. She was an amateur artist and enjoyed gardening.

Mrs. Barrett is survived by six grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two daughters, Marion A. Scopa and Marjorie L. Koch.

A graveside service was held Monday, March 7 at Westview Cemetery in Lexington.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Douglass Funeral Service, Lexington.
