Frances S. Hughes

A Funeral Services for Frances Sarah (McDonald) Hughes, 88, will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at 9 AM in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main Street, on Route 20, Watertown.

Mrs. Hughes was born in Boston, a daughter of Daniel and Rose (McLaughlin) McDonald. She was a graduate of Brighton High School and lived most of her life in Brighton. Mrs. Hughes, a retired secretary for the Raytheon Company, was a former resident of Watertown and was presently living in Goffstown, N.H. She died on Wednesday, February 21, 2007, in the Hillsborough County Nursing Home, Goffstown, N.H.

She leaves 5 children: Leo P. Hughes, Jr. of Medway, Arlene F. Lampkin of Manchester, NH, Laura J. Hughes and Debra A. Wentworth of Bellingham and Daniel J. Hughes of Nashua, NH; a brother, Daniel B. McDonald of Newton; 9 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Wife of the late Leo P. Hughes who died in May 1981, she was the sister of the late Rose M. Anzalone and Margaret Greene.

Calling hours will on Friday, February 23rd from 4-7 PM in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home on Main Street. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment will be in Saint Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury, on Saturday following the 9 o’clock services in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA. 02472.

Mae G. Bowie
A Graveside Service for Mae Gertrude (Langill) Bowie, 98, will be held on Friday, February 16, 2007, at 12:30 PM in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Highland Avenue, Watertown.

Mrs. Bowie was born in Waltham, a daughter of Linn and Mary A. (Glynn) Langill. She was raised and educated in Waltham and has lived in Watertown since the 1950s. Mrs. Bowie was a retired Bookkeeper for the Raytheon Company and a member of the Watertown Yacht Club. She died on Tuesday, February 13, 2007, in the Emerson Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Watertown.

Wife of the late Syldon G. Bowie, she leaves a sister, Agnes McFayden of Waltham.

Harriet M. Gildea

A Funeral Mass for Harriet Mae (Cousineau) Gildea, 80, will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 13, 2007, in the Church of Saint Patrick, Watertown.

Mrs. Gildea was born in Newton, a daughter of Edward T. and Harriette (Ford) Cousineau. She was a lifelong Watertown resident and graduate of Watertown High School. A member of the Kaycees of the Knights of Columbus, Council #155, Watertown, she also had been active in parish activities. Mrs. Gildea, a retired employee of Barry Controls, Watertown, had worked at the US Arsenal during World War II.

She was deeply devoted to her family, had attended all of children’s sporting and school activities and now was most proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gildea loved her home in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, which was always in the summer an active meeting place filled with family and friends. She died at Caritas-St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Boston, on Thursday, February 8, 2007.

The wife for 54 years of the late Robert J. Gildea who died in May 2000, she leaves her children: Robert J. Gildea, Jr. and his wife Jayne of Canton, Richard F. Gildea of Largo, Fla., Karen E. Gildea of Lincoln, Neb., Donald Gildea and his wife Nora of Lexington, Mary-Jean Kelehan and her husband Michael of Braintree and John P. “Jay” Gildea and his wife Michele of Easton.; two brothers: Edward Cousineau of Waltham and Francis Cousineau of Watertown; a sister Lorraine Doolan of Scituate; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The Funeral will be from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St., on Rte. 20, Watertown, on Tuesday at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 o'clock in the Church of Saint Patrick, 212 Main St., Watertown. Interment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Watertown.

Calling hours will be on Monday, February 12th from. 4-8 PM in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home on Main Street. Relatives and friends kindly invited to attend.

Lillian M. Moran

A Funeral Mass for Lillian Margaret (Connolly) Moran, 85, will be celebrated on Saturday, February 10, 2007, in the Church of Saint Jude, Waltham.

Mrs. Moran was born in Waltham, a daughter of Stephen C. and Margaret (McGoldrick) Connelly. She was a graduate of Waltham High School and has lived in Watertown for over 50 years. Mrs. Moran died at the Elizabeth Seton Residence, Wellesley, on Tuesday, February 6, 2007.

Wife of the late Paul S. Moran, she was the mother Paul S. Moran and Timothy M. Moran of Watertown, John F. Moran of Quincy, Peter J. Moran of Waltham, Mary M. Medoff of Framingham and the late Wayne C. Moran; sister of the late Eva E. Collett, Irene Conlin, Raymond, Stephen, Lawrence, Phillip and J. Harold Connelly. She also leaves 11 grandchildren.

The Funeral will be from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St., on Rte. 20, Watertown, on Sat. at 8:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30 o'clock in the Church of Saint Jude, 147 Main St., Waltham. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.

Calling hours will be on Friday, February 9th from 4-8 PM in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home on Main Street. Relatives and friends kindly invited to attend.

Eleanor May Downey

Eleanor May (Schofield) Downey, 74, died on Monday, February 5, 2007, in the Lifecare Center of Stoneham, after a long illness. Mrs. Downey was born in Watertown and lived most of her life in Watertown. She was a graduate of Watertown High School class of ‘50. Mrs. Downey, was a lifelong member of the Community Church of Watertown.

Daughter of the late Roland T. Schofield and Dorris M. (Tupper) Schofield, she leaves behind her loving children: George J. Donahue, Jr. of Watertown, Shawn T. Donahue and wife Vivian of Medford and Kelly Dowler and husband David of Medford; and three grandchildren: SPC Shawn T. Donahue, Jr., US Army, Amanda Ashley Dowler and David (DJ) Dowler. She also leaves her brother Bradford Schofield of Belmont Ma. and her sister Joan B Duffy of Maine; 3 nieces, 2 nephews, and many friends.

The Memorial service will be held at the Community Church of Watertown, 525 Main St., on Rte. 20, Watertown on Sunday, February 11, 2007. The service will begin at 10 am followed by a collation in the lower hall at the church. Friends and family are invited to attend.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, February 8th from 4-8 PM in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main Street, on Route 20, Watertown, MA. Relatives and friends kindly invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Community Church of Watertown, 525 Main Street, Watertown MA 02472.

Lawrence C. Shanteler

A Funeral Mass for Lawrence Christopher Shanteler, 86, will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 6, 2007, in the Church of Saint Patrick, Watertown.

Mr. Shanteler was born in Beachmont, MA., a son of Christopher L. and Alice G. (Shaw) Shanteler. He attended early education in the Revere school system later moving to Stoneham where he was a graduate of Stoneham High School. He enlisted in the United States Army on Sept 26 1941 and was later assigned to the Army Air Corps. He served in World War II; he was stationed at Gunter Field in Alabama and later volunteered for overseas duty in 1944. He was stationed with the 96th Service Squadron in Cerignola Italy until VE Day, and then with Priorities and Traffic Group at Cazas Air Base in Casablanca until the end of the war. He was awarded the American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, the EAME Campaign Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal.

Returning home after being honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant, he started working for the Veterans Administration as a clerk typist. Mr. Shanteler worked for the VA for 34 years and retired as a Unit Chief of Adjudication. Over the years “Larry” helped countless veterans, their widows, and their families receive the benefits rightly owed to them for their service and sacrifice to our great country.

He enjoyed playing golf with his high school friends and doting on his granddaughters. His special task later in life was caring for his late wife Mary for many years while she was ill. A resident of Watertown for over 44 years, he resided in Tyngsborough for the past 2 years. Mr. Shanteler died at his residence on Thursday, February 1, 2007 in the arms of his son and granddaughter Kathryn after a long illness.

He leaves his son and daughter-in-law, Timothy C. and Patricia M. (Burns) Shanteler of Tyngsborough two granddaughters: Laura Aleece Shanteler and Kathryn Mary Shanteler both of Tyngsborough and was the favorite uncle of many nieces and nephews. He also leaves many, many good friends of all ages, which were part of the fabric of his life.

He was the forever loving husband for 53 years of the late Mary E. (O’Leary) Shanteler who died in December 2003, he was the brother of the late Louis Shanteler, George Shanteler and Margaret Olstin.

The Funeral will be from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St., on Rte. 20, Watertown, on Tuesday at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 o'clock in the Church of Saint Patrick, 212 Main St., Watertown. Interment will be in Saint Patrick Cemetery, Watertown.

Calling hours will be on Monday, February 5th from 4-8 PM in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home on Main Street. Relatives and friends kindly invited to attend.

Memorial contributions may be made to the General Post Fund, E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital, c/o Hospital Director, 200 Springs Rd., Bedford, MA. 01730.

Virginia M. Barrett

Funeral services will be held on Friday April 27, 2007 for Mrs. Virginia M. Barrett. Mrs. Barrett was born in East Milton, MA, a daughter of the late Robert E. and Grace M. (Devoe) Gubbins. She grew up in Newton and graduated from Our Lady Help of Christians High School in Newton. She had been a resident of Falmouth and Naples, FL. Mrs. Barrett died on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at the Royal Megansett Nursing Facility in Falmouth at the age of 78.

She is survived by her husband Francis L. Barrett; her children: Janet M. Corneau and her husband Alfred and Linda Arduino and her husband Paul all of Franklin, John W. and his wife Kim and Marion Cataldo and her husband Ralph all of Falmouth, Robert E. of Mashpee and Kenneth R. of Tyngsboro. She was also survived by 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and her sisters: Margaret Galligan of Canton, Grace Goodness of Tewksbury and Miriam Davis of Falmouth.

Funeral services will be held from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home in WATERTOWN SQUARE at 6 Riverside St. (cnr. of No. Beacon St.) Watertown on Friday at 9:30 A.M. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 O’Clock in the Church of St. Patrick, 212 Main St. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 PM.

Patricia A. Savage

A Funeral Service for Patricia Ann (Risso) Savage, 72, will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2007, at 11 AM in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St., on Route 20, Watertown.

Mrs. Savage was born in Watertown, a daughter of Eugene M. and Vera (Delfine) Risso. She was a graduate of Watertown High School and lived most of her life in the town and some years in East Falmouth. She died suddenly at her Watertown residence on Saturday, April 21, 2007.

She loved politics and was active in town affairs for many years serving for 3 terms as an elected Town Meeting Member and later for 10 years as a member of the Cable TV Advisory Committee. She also attended many, many town council meetings and made her opinions known.

Mrs. Savage had worked at Zayre’s for many years and later at the Smoke Ring in the Arsenal Mall where she was the store manager and afterwards for the Pine Board Cupboard. Mrs. Savage also loved the theater and was an original member of the Hovey Players in Waltham.

She leaves her husband of 46 years Robert S. Savage; four children: Robert S. Savage of Nashville, TN., Michael P. Savage and his wife Cecilia of Sunnyvale, Calif.,
Christina M. Savage and her husband Brett Milanowski of Somerville and Joanne E. Farwell and her husband Paul of Watertown; a brother, Eugene R. Risso of Watertown and Barrington, N.H.; and four grandchildren: Isabella S. Milanowski, Patricia J. Farwell, David L. Farwell and Raina S. Milanoski.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, April 25th from 4-8 PM in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St., Watertown. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the services and calling hours. Interment will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Trivia A. Frissora

A Funeral Mass for Trivia Ann Frissora, 93, will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 25, 2007, in the Church of Saint Patrick, Watertown.

Ms. Frissora, a lifelong Watertown resident, was born in the town, a daughter of Henry and Filomena (Julian) Frissora. She was a graduate of Saint Patrick High School and a lifelong member of Saint Patrick Parish. Ms. Frissora had worked for 50 years for the former Record American and then for a number of years as a librarian for Sylvania- GTE Co. She enjoyed caning chairs, crocheting, golf, bowling, and was a devoted shopper at yard sales and auctions. Ms. Frissora died on Friday, April 20, 2007, at Wingate at Needham.

She leaves four sisters: Delia P. Frissora of Watertown, Helen J. Antinarelli of Waltham, Mary E. Frissora of Watertown and Loretta L. Frissora of West Newton; two brothers: Anthony P. Frissora of Boston and Francis V. Frissora of Bryn Mawr, PA.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also the sister of the late Alia M. Russo, Marfisa Higgins, Roger A. Frissora, Henry C. Frissora, Lillian J. Ferron and Joseph R. Frissora.

The Funeral will be from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home at 270 Main St., on Rte. 20, Watertown, on Wednesday at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 o'clock in the Church of Saint Patrick, 212 Main St., Watertown. Interment will follow in Saint Patrick Cemetery, Watertown.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, April 24th from 4-8 PM. In the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home on Main Street. Relatives and friends kindly invited to attend.

James A. Malvey

A Funeral Mass for James Anthony “Jay” Malvey, 62, will be celebrated on Monday, April 23, 2007 at 9 AM in the Church of Saint Patrick, Watertown, MA.

James was born on October 10th 1944 to Elizabeth (Muldoon) and James Augustine Malvey in Brighton, MA. He was raised in Watertown and was a graduate of Saint Patrick Grammar School and Watertown High School. He lived in New Hampshire from 1975 until 2005, during which time he developed his career in construction, eventually becoming a well respected Supervisor and Forman. He was known as the man that wanted to do things right the first time, was always willing to work hard, and never compromised his values. He was a true man of his word.

In 2006 he moved to Florida for the sunny skies, but even after the move Jay loved everything Boston. He enjoyed the history, the tradition, and arguably most of all, the sport teams. A charismatic and loving man, you could always count on him for a sentimental story, a tall tale, or good natured ribbing of his beloved Red Sox. Jay suffered from Kidney disease beginning in 1986, and had multiple medical complications following that. He finally succumbed to Heart Disease on April 17th, 2007 at his residence in Lutz, Florida.

Jay is survived by four children and their spouses, Karen Pisz and her husband Eric Pisz of Atlanta, GA, Lauren Hurson and her husband Gerard Hurson of Co. Clare, Ireland, James Malvey and his wife Tanya Malvey of Dracut, MA and Kathleen Cucchi and her husband Michael Cucchi of Salem, MA; and a granddaughter, Aisling Hurson.

He also leaves three siblings: Kevin Malvey of Springfield, MA., Edward “ Ted” Malvey of Sturbridge, MA and Kathleen Crouse of Framingham, MA. Jay will also be missed by his partner and friend, Judith Barret of St Petersburg, FL. and 11 nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be on Sunday, April 22nd from 4-7 PM, in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home, at 270 Main St., on Rte. 20, Watertown, MA. Interment in Saint Patrick Cemetery, Watertown, MA. will follow the Funeral Mass on Monday. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
