Louise M. Kennedy, 81, leaves family in Tewksbury

NASHUA, N.H. — Louise M. (Henshon) Kennedy, 81, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at her home in Nashua. She was the wife of George M. Kennedy who died in 1975.

She was born in Somerville on Oct. 1, 1919, the daughter of the late Patrick and Winifred (Ranes) Henshon. She graduated from St. John’s High School in Cambridge.

Mrs. Kennedy reportedly was the first female conductor in Boston for the MBTA in the early 1940s.

She is survived by three sons, Michael Kennedy and his wife Cathy, and Joseph Kennedy, all of Tucson, Ariz., and William Kennedy and his wife Gina of Midlothian, Va.; two daughters, Ann Gobron of Dracut, and Kay Joyce of Tewksbury; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Mary Mahar and John Henshon.

A memorial service was held June 9, at St. Kathryn’s Church in Hudson, N.H.

Ivy Moulton-Douglas, 88, leaves family in Tewksbury

NEWBURYPORT — Ivy (Welch) Moulton-Douglas, 88, died unexpectedly on Thursday, May 31, 2001, at the Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport. She was the wife of the late Bernard Moulton and Chester Douglas.

She was born in Milford, N.H. on Sept. 2, 1912. She was raised in Milford and lived there for many years before moving to Newburyport.

Mrs. Moulton-Douglas was a published free-lance writer and successful amateur gardener and interior designer.

She is survived by a daughter, Claire Trudeau of Tewksbury; a daughter-in-law, Kay Moulton of Vermont; eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and her close friend, Jerry Bryant of Amesbury. She was also the mother of the late James and Robert Moulton, and the grandmother of the late Steven and Douglas Trudeau.

A funeral service was held June 8, at the E.V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home in Amesbury. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery, Milford, N.H.

Barbara L. Rollins, 68, of Tewksbury

TEWKSBURY — Barbara L. (LaRovere) Rollins, 68, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at her home following a battle with cancer. She was the wife of Joseph A. Rollins Jr.

She was born in Everett on July 4, 1932, the daughter of Alice (Gardin) LaRovere of Everett and the late Nicholas LaRovere. She was educated in the Everett school system.

Mrs. Rollins had been a resident of Tewksbury since 1967 and was a communicant of St. William’s Church.

In addition to her husband of 42 years, she is survived by two sons, Alan J. Rollins of Chelmsford, and David W. Rollins and his wife Cathy of Woburn; a daughter, Gail A. Garvey and her husband Leo of Long Island, N.Y.; a sister, Norma Fiorentino and her husband Michael of North Reading; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Delores S. Deheulle.

A funeral was held June 7, from the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home in Tewksbury, followed by a funeral Mass in St. William’s Church. Interment was in Tewksbury Cemetery.

Richard J. Scanlon Jr., 68, of Wilmington

WILMINGTON — Richard J. " Dick " Scanlon Jr., 68, died Friday, June 8, 2001, at the New England Medical Center. He was the husband of Kathleen M. " Kay " (Hoban) Scanlon.

He was born in Wakefield on Oct. 20, 1932, the son of the late Richard J. Sr. and Mary G. (Murphy) Scanlon. Mr. Scanlon played baseball and track and field at Wakefield High School, from which he graduated in 1950, and Boston College, from which he graduated in 1955.

Mr. Scanlon was a teacher and varsity baseball and soccer coach at Wilmington High School for 32 years before he retired in October 2000. He also coached at Wakefield High School and Austin Prep.

He was a member of the Wilmington School Committee, the Wilmington Teachers Association, and the Eastern Massachusetts Soccer and Baseball Association.

Mr. Scanlon was also an accomplished pianist.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Richard J. Scanlon of Billerica and Tewksbury, Stephen F. Scanlon and his wife Tina of Wilmington, and Michael K. Scanlon and his wife Lynn of Billerica; a daughter, Susan M. Carter and her husband Christopher of Georgetown; two brothers, William Scanlon of Wakefield, and Robert Scanlon of Haverhill; and nine grandchildren.

A funeral was held June 13, from the W.S. Cavanaugh & Son Funeral Home in Wilmington, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Dorothy’s Church.

Claire L. Skinner, 64, leaves family in Tewksbury

BILLERICA — Claire L. Skinner, 64, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of John F. Skinner Sr.

She was born in Cambridge, the daughter of the late Leonard and Louise (Crocker) Martin.

Mrs. Skinner was employed as a waitress at Bickford’s in Woburn for 20 years.

She lived in Winchester for many years before moving to Billerica 16 years ago.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, John F. Skinner Jr. of Nashua, N.H., and Frederick M. Skinner of Dracut; four daughters, Louisa P. Thompson of Billerica, Katherine DaBraccio of Winchester, Claire Bailey of Andover, and Jacqueline Acosta of Tewksbury; a brother, Samuel Martin of Florida; a sister, Isabella Corkdel of Malden, 19 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held June 13, from the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home in Billerica. Interment was in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.

Mary Ellen Beagen, 56, of Littleton

Mary Ellen (Hanright) Beagen, 56, died June 5, 2001, as a result of being struck by a car while walking. She was the wife of Peter M. Beagen.

She was born in Winchester on March 17, 1945, the daughter of the late Hubert and Margaret (Doherty) Hanright. She grew up in Stoneham and was a graduate of Nazarene Academy, class of 1963. She attended the Chandler School of Boston.

Mrs. Beagen was employed at Colpitts Travel in reservations and as the city counter in Boston for Pan American Air Lines. She later worked for Digital Equipment Corp. in Maynard and Acton, and most recently was a database manager for Compaq of Stow and Acton.

Mrs. Beagen made her home in Concord for seven years and Littleton for the past 25 years.

She was a member and avid golfer at the Sterling Country Club. She enjoyed skiing and was a ski instructor at Nashoba Ski area. Mrs. Beagen was also a member of St Anne’s Church in Littleton.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Peter Jeremiah " PJ " Beagen of Homedale, Calif.; a daughter, Sara Moore and her husband, Peter, of Eaton, N.H.; a brother, John Hanright of Stoneham; and three sisters, Anne Leydon, Martha Porter and Margaret Sweet, all of Stoneham. She was also the sister of the late Hubert Hanright.

A funeral was held June 9 from the Badger Funeral Home in Littleton, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anne’s Church. Interment was in Puritan Lawn, Peabody.

David Shapiro, 78, of Lincoln

David Shapiro, 78, of Lincoln. died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at his home.

Born in Utica, N.Y., he grew up in New York City and relocated to New England in 1957 to Watertown and in 1962 to his present home in Lincoln, where he maintained his sculpture garden.

During World War II, he served for two-and-a-half years as a tailgunner on a B17 bomber stationed in England. He married Esther (Tilis) within three days of his return from England after VE Day, while still in uniform. He then started his electrical engineering studies under the GI Bill of Rights and graduated from Pratt Institute with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering with honors, Tau Beta Pi, in 1949.

Mr. Shapiro was an engineer/entrepreneur, pioneering in computers and a committed painter. In the late 1970's he became a full time artist, working first in painting and later in welded steel sculptures. He was a member of Cambridge Association, Depot Square Gallery, Lexington Arts and Crafts Society, and a lifetime member of the Copley Society of Boston. Aside from his own artistic and technological activities, he was also active with his wife in the Friday Morning Book Club at Lincoln Library.

In addition to his wife Esther (Tilis) Shapiro, he leaves a son Saul of Denmark; a daughter-in-law-Hanne, also of Denmark; two grandchildren and a brother Nathaniel of Princeton, N.J. He also leaves many friends who will remember him and he leaves his inventions and his artwork to keep his memory alive. He was also the brother of the late Doris Shapiro.

A memorial gathering will be held in July at the Shapiro home in Lincoln.

Arrangements are under the direction of Joseph Dee & Son Funeral Service, Concord.

Vincent C. Yauckoes

Vincent Charles Yauckoes, 59, of Reading, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Yauckoes grew up in Bedford and graduated from Bedford High School in 1959. He graduated from Boston College in 1963 and returned to Bedford after college to teach and coach football. His career took him to Polaroid Corporation to work in development and to Data General Corporation and Sears Roebuck & Co. where he worked in management. He later changed careers and followed his interest in home flooring design consulting and selling flooring at retail stores. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking and the outdoors.

He is survived by his mother, Ann Yauckoes of Bedford; his fiancée Diane Sturtevant of Reading; a daughter, Kathy Yauckoes of Worcester; a son, Robert Yauckoes of Dubai, U.A.E., a sister, Patty Connor of Hollis, N.H. and many friends and relatives.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday, June 9 at St. Agnes Church in Reading. Interment was in Shawsheen Cemetery, Bedford.

The Joseph Doherty Funeral Home, Reading, was in charge of arrangements.

Gloria C. DiCarlo, 75, leaves family in Billerica

REVERE — Gloria C. (Sarno) DiCarlo, 75, died June 4, 2001, in Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

She was born in Boston, the daughter of the late Almerindo and Teresa (Nutile) Sarno. Mrs. DiCarlo also previously resided in Medford.

She is survived by two sons, Joseph S. DiCarlo of Medford, and Peter DiCarlo and his wife Beth of Winchester; three daughters, Theresa Milkovits and her husband John of Florida, Gloria Marinello and her husband Robert of Billerica, and Patricia DiCarlo-Fagioli and her husband Joseph of Revere; two brothers, Frederick Sarno of Sandwich, and Almerindo Sarno of Marshfield; four sisters, Eleanor Tenore of Braintree, Marguerite Polin of Roxbury, Anna McQuillan of Dedham, and Olga Bocchino of Foxboro; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was also the sister of the late Alba Sarno and Evelyn Doyle.

A funeral was held June 8, from the Dello Russo Funeral Home in Medford, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Clement’s Church, Medford. Interment was in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Boston.

Donna M. Herlihy, 58, leaves family in Billerica

LOWELL — Donna M. (Davenport) Herlihy, 58, died June 4, 2001. She was the wife of Gerald W. Herlihy.

She was born in Gravenhurst, Ontario, Canada on June 17, 1942, the daughter of the late William R.R. and Beatrice M. (Caron) Davenport. She graduated from Gravenhurst schools.

Mrs. Herlihy was a self-employed day care provider in the Lowell area.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Patrick W. and his wife Lisa of Nashua, N.H., David J. Herlihy and his wife Stephanie of Billerica, and Mark A. Herlihy and his girlfriend Stephanie Gauthier of Lowell; a daughter, Theresa M. Curley and her husband Russell of Billerica; five brothers and sisters, Charles, Louise, Chris, Arthur and Theresa Davenport, all residing in Canada; seven grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held June 7, from the Mahoney Funeral Home in Lowell. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Tewksbury.
