Ralph V. Lord Jr.

Ralph V. Lord Jr., 71, of Lexington, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at his home. He was the husband of Jean (Jobe) Lord.

Born in Middletown, N.Y., he was the son of R. Vincent and Mildred (Cowley) Lord. He lived in Lexington for 37 years and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was employed as a teacher of physical education from 1957 to 1972 at Lexington High School, and served as athletic director from 1972 to 1993.

He was a member of Backers of Lexington Track (BOLT) and Genesis. He also volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, was a track official, a member of the Bristol Lodge and a longtime member of the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Lexington.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Cindy Tschekunow and her husband Oleg of Arizona, and Cheryl Leonard and her husband Paul of Hanover; a sister, Georgine Kussin of Concord; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 19 at the Pilgrim Congregational Church, 55 Coolidge Ave., Lexington.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Backers of Lexington Track (BOLT), c/o Genesis, P.O. Box 156, Lexington, MA 02420, or Pilgrim Congregational Church, 55 Coolidge Ave., Lexington, MA 02420.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Douglass Funeral Home, Lexington.

Philip T. Keane

Philip Thomas Keane, 67, of Savannah, Ga., died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001 in Hospice Savannah Inc. He was the husband of Nancy Stearns Keane of Savannah.

Born in Scarsdale, N.Y., he also lived in Plymouth and Concord before moving to Savannah five years ago. He was a 1952 graduate of Scarsdale High School and a 1956 graduate of Villanova University.

From 1957 to 1961, he served in the U.S. Navy as a naval aviator, flying missions off the USS Wasp, Taraiva and Coral Sea.

Mr. Keane was a sales and marketing executive in the flexible packing industry and was currently president of Keane Associates in Savannah. He was a member of the Landings Golf Club, the Navy League and a communicant of St. James Catholic Church.

Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Christopher Keane of Rockville, Md., Frank Keane of Hoboken, N.J., John Stearns of Atlanta, and Chris Stearns of Austin, Texas; three daughters, Mary Lott of Gaithersburg, Md., Betsy Dorr of Concord and Kelly Stearns of Kirkland, Wash.; a brother, Dick Keane of Scarsdale; three sisters, Betty Fitzpatrick of Scarsdale, Nancy Maloney of Basking Ridge, N.J., and Susan Igoe of Cos Cob, Conn.; two grandchildren, including Maggie Dorr of Concord; and his ex-wife, Gail Keane of Concord.

A funeral Mass will be held today, Oct. 25, in St. James Catholic Church. Burial is private.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Hospice Savannah Inc., PO Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Savannah.

Lois Harris

Lois (Faber) Harris, 97, of Concord, died Oct. 11, 2001. She was the wife of Paul Harris, a Unitarian minister.

Mr. and Mrs. Harris lived many years in New England, including a log cabin in Vermont, and in Littleton, where Mr. Harris died.

Mrs. Harris moved to Cambridge, where she became a member of the Religious Society of Friends.

In 1981, Mrs. Harris moved to Concord. There she especially enjoyed performing on the recorder with local musicians, reading her poetry to various groups, and participating in speaking at forums on a wide array of topics, especially how to age gracefully.

She was an early member of the Gray Panthers, a feminist group that celebrated the aging woman.

Many of her poems were published and she was a contributor to " The New Our Bodies, Ourselves. " She was widely loved and admired for her enduring joy of spirit and the eagerness with which she sought new friends and new knowledge.

Mrs. Harris was a longtime member of Acton Monthly Meeting of Friends.

Friends are invited to a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, at the First Parish Church, Lexington Road, Concord.

Florence Lawton
Teacher, reporter

ACTON — Florence Wilson Lawton died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at her daughter’s home in Acton where she resided for the last eight years. She was the wife of the late Edwin Home Lawton.

Born Sept. 18, 1910 in Port Leyden, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Homer and Louise Wilson. She graduated from high school there as class valedictorian. In 1933 she graduated from Cornell University. Her first teaching job was during the Depression in a one-room schoolhouse where she taught all eight grades. She lived in the Hartford, Conn. area and Rocky Hill until 1955. She reported on the local news for the Hartford Times.

In 1955 she moved with her family to an inactive dairy farm in Coventry, Conn. She taught kindergarten and volunteered for 4-H, the Republican Town Committee and other groups. Upon her husband’s retirement they moved to Ellenton, Fla. where she resided for the next 20 years and was an active volunteer for many organizations.

Mrs. Lawton is survived by her daughter, Norma Wu of Acton; two sons, Russell Lawton of Waterbury, Conn. and Richard Lawton of East Hartford, Conn.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Rose Hill Funeral Home, Elm St., Rocky Hill, Conn. with burial in the Rose Hill Memorial Park. Visiting hours are from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with the memorial service with burial following at 11:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Colony Cove CB Unit in Ellenton, Fla., the Federation of Mobile Home Owner’s Legal Fund in Largo, Fla. or the charity of one’s choice.

Lois Harris
An enduring joy of spirit

Madeline Ryan, 94, of Burlington

Madeline (Leavitt) Ryan, 94, wife of the late James S. Ryan, died Thursday. Oct. 18, 2001, at the Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center in Medford after a long illness.

Bom in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Elsie (Andrews) Leavitt. She moved to Woburn with her family at an early age, was educated in Woburn schools graduating with the class of 1926. She was an active member in the Fellowship Bible Church of Burlington.

She is survived by two sons, Richard L. Ryan and his wife Edna of Woburn, and John S. and his wife JoAnn of Minnesota; seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, Woburn, on Tuesday, Oct. 23. Interment followed at Woodbrook Cemetery in Woburn.

Donations may be made in Mrs. Ryan's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, Cameron Avenue, Cambridge, MA 02140.

Donald W. Morgan, 42, of Burlington

Donald W. Morgan, 42, died suddenly Oct. 18, 2001, at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington. He was the husband of Robin (Reynolds) Morgan.

He was born in Somerville, the son of Robert and Barbara Morgan of Burlington. Except for a few years living in Stoneham, he was a resident of Burlington. A graduate of Burlington High School, Class of 1977, he went on to graduate from the University of Lowell. During his high school and college years he competed in gymnastics going all the way to the Nationals. His specialty was the high bar.

His love for the sport never ended as he helped coach the Burlington High School gymnastics team. He also coached his children in youth soccer and hockey.

Mr. Morgan was employed as a general contractor doing commercial and residential construction under the name of C.B.R. Company.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his children, Donald, Jonathan, Michael, Caitlin, Michelle, Shane and Adam; three brothers, Robert Morgan Jr. of Nashua, N.H., Philip Morgan of Gardner, and Jeffrey Morgan of Burlington; two sisters, Gail Canales of Burlington, and Jennifer Walter of Westford.

A funeral service was held Oct. 23, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Burlington. Interment was in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.

Katherine Kelleher, 87, leaves family in Burlington

Katherine Kelleher, 87, of Arlington, formerly a longtime resident of Somerville, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2001, at McFadden Nursing Home in Malden. She was the wife of the late Thomas F. Kelleher.

Born in Somerville May 22, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Agnes (Reynolds) Quinn. A homemaker, she lived in Arlington for 39 years.

Mrs. Kelleher is survived by two sons, Thomas F. Kelleher Jr. of Winchester and Richard Kelleher of Arlington; four daughters, Nancy McCallum of Cambridge, Rita Swadel of Medford, Mary Mooney of Burlington and Kathleen Pacheco of Malden; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Oct. 23 at Immaculate Conception Church in Winchester. Burial followed in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Catholic Charities, 75 Kneeland St., Boston, MA 02111.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Keefe Funeral Home, Arlington.

Augustus Tucci, 81, formerly of Arlington

HOMOSASSA, Fla. — Augustus " Bobby " Tucci, formerly of Arlington, died Oct. 2 at the age of 81.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Anna M. (Capobianco) Tucci of Homosassa, Fla., formerly of Billerica; a son, Ralph Tucci of Pelham, N.H.; a daughter, Maryann Tucci of Georgia; two brothers, Rudolph Tucci of Arlington and John Tucci of Manchester, N.H.; and a sister, Dolma Howland of Oaklahoma. He was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Guanci.

Services were handled by the Wilder-Fountains Funeral Home in Homosassa Springs, Fla.
