Barbara M. DuBuque, 80, of Arlington

ARLINGTON — Barbara M. (Gatenby) DuBuque, 80, of Arlington, formerly of New Bedford, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at Deaconess-Glover Hospital in Needham.

Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late John S. and Pearl (Green) Gatenby. Following high school graduation, she entered St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford for nurse’s training and worked there for many years.

Mrs. DuBuque served in the U.S. Army during World War II and then worked for Stone and Webster on the Oak Ridge team during the building of the Manhattan Project. She furthered her education by attending the University of Pennsylvania where she received her master’s degree. Before moving to Arlington in 1984, she lived in Flushing and Katona, N.Y.

She is survived by a son, John J. DuBuque of Katona and a daughter, Karen DuBuque of Arlington.

A memorial service will take place Sunday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford. Burial is private.

Memorials in her name may be made to the American Red Cross.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Edward T. Wilson, Inc., New Bedford.

Dennis J. Drinan, 71, formerly of Arlington

TEWKSBURY — Dennis J. Drinan, 71, died Oct. 16, 2001, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Patricia (Martin) Drinan.

He was born in Arlington, the son of the late Jeremiah and Margaret (Coveney) Drinan. Mr. Drinan lived in Arlington and Burlington for many years before moving to Tewksbury 30 years ago.

Mr. Drinan was employed as an investigator for Metropolitan Insurance Co. for more than 30 years before his retirement nine years ago.

He was a member of the Billerica Lodge of Elks No. 2071 and was an avid golfer.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Kevin Drinan of Woburn, David Drinan and Robert Drinan, both of Billerica; two daughters, Denise Sanders of Moretown, Vt., and Kathy Eddy of Dorchester; a brother, William Drinan of Peabody; a sister, Mary Miller of Arlington; and seven grandchildren.

A funeral was held Oct. 20, from the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home in Billerica, followed by a funeral Mass in St. William’s Church, Tewksbury. Interment was in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.

Doris M. Cayer, 73, of Arlington

ARLINGTON — Doris M. Cayer, 73, died Oct. 18, 2001, at her home after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Roland E. Cayer.

She was born in Brockton on Sept. 5, 1928, the daughter of Ernest and Mabel E. (St. Louis) Goulet.

Mrs. Cayer received a master’s degree from Boston University and did undergraduate studies at Boston College.

She was employed as an instructor at Boston College School of Nursing.

Mrs. Cayer was very active in St. Agnes Church of Arlington.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Anne Cayer of Arlington and Susan Flaherty and her husband Michael of Boxford; three sisters, Virginia Turcotte of Pawtucket, R.I., Sister Gertrude Goulet RJM of Plainsville, and Sister Rita Goulet RJM of Goffstown, N.H.; a granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Irene (Brady) O’Malley.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Aug. 20, at St. Agnes Church in Arlington. Interment was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington.

Arrangements were under the care of the Keefe Funeral Home, Arlington.

Charles Bognanni Sr., 75, of Arlington

ARLINGTON — Charles Bognanni Sr., 75, died Oct. 18, 2001, at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. He was the husband of the late Mary A. (Mazzarella) Bognanni.

He was born in Boston and had been a longtime resident of Arlington.

Mr. Bognanni was employed as a salesman in building supplies.

He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean War.

He is survived by three sons, Joseph Bognanni of Dracut, Frank M. Bognanni of Arlington, and Charles Bognanni Jr. of Framingham; three daughters-in-law, Marcia, Christine and Karen; a brother, Phillip Bognanni; a sister, Pauline Bognanni; and three grandchildren.

A funeral Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Oct. 22, in St. Jerome’s Church in Arlington. Interment was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington.

Arrangements were under the care of the Berglund, Williams, O’Brien Funeral Home, Arlington.

Jennie S. Ortolano, 94, of Littleton

LITTLETON — Jennie S. (Alessi) Ortolano, 94, of Littleton, formerly of Arlington, died Oct. 19, 2001, at the Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley in Littleton. She was the wife of the late Joseph C. Ortolano.

Mrs. Ortolano was a communicant of St. Brigid’s Church in Lexington.

She is survived by three sons, Angelo J. Ortolano of Chelmsford, Dominic J. Ortolano and his wife Kathryn M. of Brewer, Maine, and Joseph A. Ortolano and his wife Ninfa S. of Lexington; two daughters C. Jean Coates of Lexington, and Sally E. Christle and her husband Henry G. of Littleton; 25 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was also the sister of the late Angelina Cappuccio and Mary Fiorenza; and the mother-in-law of the late Mary Ortolano and Norman Coates.

A funeral was held Oct. 23, from the Douglass Funeral Home in Lexington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brigid’s Church. Interment was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington.

Lois Harris, 97, of Concord

CONCORD — Lois (Faber) Harris, 97, died Oct. 11, 2001. She was the wife of Paul Harris, a Unitarian minister.

Mr. and Mrs. Harris lived many years in New England, including a log cabin in Vermont, and in Littleton, where Mr. Harris died.

Mrs. Harris moved to Cambridge, where she became a member of the Religious Society of Friends.

In 1981, Mrs. Harris moved to Concord. There she especially enjoyed performing on the recorder with local musicians, reading her poetry to various groups, and participating in speaking at forums on a wide array of topics, especially how to age gracefully.

She was an early member of the Gray Panthers, a feminist group that celebrated the aging woman.

Many of her poems were published and she was a contributor to " The New Our Bodies, Ourselves. " She was widely loved and admired for her enduring joy of spirit and the eagerness with which she sought new friends and new knowledge.

Mrs. Harris was a longtime member of Acton Monthly Meeting of Friends.

Friends are invited to a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, at the First Parish Church, Lexington Road, Concord.

Anne Marie Sullivan, 79, formerly of Dracut

DRACUT — Anne Marie Sullivan, 79, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at Saints Memorial Medical Center in Lowell. She was the wife of the late James A. Sullivan Jr.

She was born in New York City on Nov. 27, 1921, the daughter of the late Thomas and Alice (Lyes) Prate.

Mrs. Sullivan lived in Tewksbury for more than 40 years before moving to Dracut two years ago.

She was employed as a secretary at Massachusetts General Hospital, Foster and Bibeau Law Office in Tewksbury, and for the last four years, at the Riverside Assembly of God in Methuen, retiring just two weeks ago.

She is survived by three sons, James T. Sullivan and his wife Charlene of Tewksbury, Richard M. Sullivan and his wife Carole of Dracut, and Kevin P. Sullivan and his wife Beverly of Hudson, N.H.; four daughters, Maureen Sweeney and her husband John E. of Milford, N.J., Patricia Anne Quintal and her husband Joseph V. of Clinton, Anne K. Petropoulos and her husband Nicholas of Lowell, and Kathleen Sullivan of Tewksbury; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral was held Oct. 20, from the Tewksbury Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at the Riverside Assembly of God Church, Methuen. Interment was in Tewksbury Cemetery.

Alice C. MacDonald, 96, of Wilmington

WILMINGTON — Alice C. (Hillier) MacDonald, 96, a 60-year resident of Wilmington, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at the Woburn Nursing Home in Woburn. She was the wife of the late Daniel E. MacDonald.

She was born in Boston’s Brighton section on July 17, 1905, and lived there for many years before moving to Wilmington.

She is survived by three sons, Edward D. MacDonald of Billerica, Robert J. MacDonald of Lowell, and Richard J. MacDonald of Bow, N.H.; a daughter, Helen I. MacDonald of Framingham; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

A funeral was held Oct. 18, from the W.S. Cavanaugh & Son Funeral Home in Wilmington, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Thomas Church. Interment was in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.

John R. Leo, 80, of Wilmington

WILMINGTON — John R. Leo, 80, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Mary A. (Ciano) Leo.

He was born in Portland, Maine, the son of the late Raffaele and Clementina (Amabile) Leo.

Mr. Leo lived in Wilmington for 42 years, and prior to his retirement, was employed as a truck driver. He was a member of Teamsters Local No. 25.

He is survived by a son, Ralph J. Leo of Sandown, N.H.; three daughters, Elaine M. Sherman of Lunenburg, Janet A. Fortenberry of Pepperell, and Marie E. Lee of Lunenburg; a brother, Robert Leo of Saugus; three sisters, Ellen DiNunzio of Charlestown, Flora Teele and Anna Sergi, both of the North End of Boston; and three grandchildren.

A funeral was held Oct. 23, from the W.S. Cavanaugh & Son Funeral Home in Wilmington, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Thomas Church. Interment was in the family plot in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.

Elmer V. ‘Lefty’ Gratcyk, of Wilmington

WILMINGTON — Elmer V. " Lefty " Gratcyk, a resident of Wilmington for more than 60 years, died suddenly on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, after being taken ill at his residence. He was the husband of the late Ruth M. (McLaughlin) Gratcyk, who died in 1983.

He was born in Somerville in 1914. Mr. Gratcyk was a retired steel worker in the construction steel industry.

Mr. Gratcyk was an active member of Friendship Lodge of Masons for many years, a member of Aleppo Temple, and the Congregational Church.

He is survived by a son, Frank H. Gratcyk of North Carolina; a daughter, Judith R. Beam of Prospect, Ky.; three grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.

A funeral service was held Oct. 20, at the Wilmington Congregational Church. Interment was in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
