Felix R. De Leo, at 77, retired DuPont chemist
Bourne

Wednesday, May 5, 1999

Felix R. De Leo of Marco Island, Fla., and longtime resident of Bourne, a retired chemist with DuPont Corp., died Tuesday at Naples Community Hospital. He was 77.

Born in Boston, Mr. De Leo was a longtime resident of Bourne.

Mr. De Leo graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1942.

He was employed as a chemist with DuPont Corp., retiring in 1983.

Mr. De Leo served with the Third Armored Division of the Army during World War II. He achieved the rank of major.

He was a member of Corpus Christi Parish Center in East Sandwich.

Mr. De Leo is survived by his wife of 50 years, Florence; a son, David of Merrimack, N.H.; three daughters, Patricia Harris of Milford, Gail Mann of Merrimack, N.H., and Linda Roland of Somers, Conn.; two sisters, Lillian Sorci of Milton and Jean Shanahan of Lexington; and nine grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at Corpus Christi Parish Center.

Burial was in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Helen C. Roache, at 79, founded funeral home
Canton

Wednesday, May 5, 1999

Helen C. (Chandler) Roache of Canton, a retired employee of the Emerson and Cuming Co. and co - founder of the Joseph P. Roache Home for Funerals, died Sunday at Caritas Norwood Hospital after a brief illness. She was 79.

Born and raised in Canton, she graduated from Canton High School.

Mrs. Roache and her husband founded the Joseph P. Roache Home for Funerals in 1960.

Wife of the late Joseph P., Mrs. Roache is survived by a son, Joseph P. Jr. of Canton; a daughter, Susan H. Wilkins of Bellingham; a sister, Ruth Warburton of Canton; and three grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. tomorrow at St. John the Evangelist Church, Canton.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Canton.

Joseph Bouchard, 81, retired trucker
Medford

Wednesday, May 5, 1999

Joseph L. Bouchard of Medford, a truck driver, died Sunday at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was 81.

Born in Fall River, he lived in Medford for the past 23 years. He also previously lived in Somerville.

Mr. Bouchard worked as a truck driver for Branch Motor Co. for 20 years before retiring in 1975.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn (Maltacea); four sons, James Wakely of Medford, Michael Wakely of California, Gregory of Woburn and Daniel of Medford; four daughters, Sandra Devin of Methuen, Marcia Hillson of Melrose, Doreen Caliri of Woburn and Lisa Layton of Medford; 32 grandchildren; and 23 great - grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. today at St. Francis of Assisi, Medford.

Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

Joseph P. Curro, 72, Concord employee

Joseph P. Curro of Centerville, a native of Concord and retired employee of the town, died Monday at home. He was 72.

Born in Concord, he lived in Maynard and Centerville.

Mr. Curro served in the Navy during World War II on the destroyer Purvis.

He was employed for many years by the town of Concord tree department and retired in 1980.

Mr. Curro was a member of the Concord, Maynard and Hyannis Elks, and the Maynard Rod and Gun Club. He also enjoyed hunting, baseball and football.

Mr. Curro is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sylvia M. (Junno) of Centerville.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. tomorrow in St. Bernard's Church, Concord.

Burial will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord.

James V. Dooley, at 87, retired Hub architect
Milton

Monday, April 26, 1999

James V. Dooley of Milton, a retired Boston architect, died Friday evening at Newton - Wellesley Alzheimer Center in Wellesley. He was 87.

Born in South Boston, Mr. Dooley was a resident of Milton for more than 50 years.

He graduated from Mechanic Arts High School in 1929. He later studied at Boston Architectural Center. Mr. Dooley was employed at the architectural firm of Maginnis, Walsh and Kennedy from 1946 to 1980.

He became an associate at the firm in 1964.

cw - 2From 1980 to 1982, he worked for Holmes and Edwards of Boston. He retired in 1989 from the firm of Shepley, Bulfinch, Richardson and Abbott of Boston.

cw0Mr. Dooley specialized in institutional design. Some of the design projects on which he worked include the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Baltimore; the schools of education, nursing and law at Boston College; Carney Hospital in Dorchester; Boston College High School; and Emmanuel College Library.

Mr. Dooley received peer recognition for his design of Nazareth, Cardinal Cushing's home for children in Jamaica Plain.

He was an avid sailor and was a life member of the South Boston Yacht Club.

Husband of the late Alice (Monahan), Mr. Dooley is survived by a son, James R. of Marshfield; a daughter, Janice Keough of Milton; a sister, Lilian White of Hingham; and two grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. tomorrow at St. Elizabeth's Church, Milton.

Burial will be in Milton Cemetery.

James Murphy Jr., 71, letter carrier
Arlington

Thursday, May 6, 1999

James J. Murphy Jr. of Arlington, a retired letter carrier, died Tuesday at home. He was 71.

Born in South Boston, he lived in Arlington for many years.

During World War II, he served in the Army.

He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement.

Wife of the late Victoria (Johnson), Mr. Murphy is survived by a niece, Noreen Dunn of Woburn; and two friends, Linda and Glenn McKee of Arlington and Derry, N.H.

A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. today at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Boston.

John W. Silva, at 72, engineering consultant
Topsfield

Monday, April 26, 1999

John W. Silva of Topsfield, president of EMC, Inc. of Newton, died Thursday at his home. He was 72.

Born on Staten Island, New York City, he grew up there and attended public schools. He was a longtime resident of Hamilton and moved to Topsfield a year ago.

Mr. Silva graduated from New Dorp High School in 1944. After high school, he served two years in the Navy.

After his discharge, he attended Manhattan College, graduating with a degree in civil engineering.

Mr. Silva went to work for U.S. Gypsum in New York, where he was employed for several years as a civil engineer.

In 1955, he took a job as chief engineer for Stop & Shop Co. in Boston. He worked there for 15 years. Mr. Silva opened his own engineering consulting business, EMC, Inc. of Newton, in 1970.

He served as president of EMC but also did consulting work, most recently with the New England Development Company in Newton.

Mr. Silva was a 43 - year member of St. Paul's Church in Hamilton. An active parishioner, he served on the church's planning committee, taught Sunday school for many years and was a past president of the church's Tarsus Club.

He was past president of the Hamilton - Wenham Little League and was an avid golfer and tennis player. He was a member of Ferncroft Country Club and Manchester Bath and Tennis Club. He served on the board of Ocean Creek Resort on Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Husband of the late Agnus E. (Hazard), Mr. Silva is survived by his wife of one year, Maryann (Nunes) Burns Silva; his mother, Mary (Stanley); two sons, John W. Jr. of Concord, N.H., and Mark C. of Alpharetta, Ga.; two daughters, Donna M. Barror of Rockport and Nancy A. Cutler of Beverly; a stepson, Mark Burns of Essex; a stepdaughter, Michelle McGrath of Essex; a sister, Mary S. Cornwall of Jacksonville, N.C.; and nine grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. today at St. Paul's Catholic Church.

Burial will be in Hamilton Cemetery.
