Dorothy V. Oliver, retired teacher, 68
Wareham

Thursday, November 11, 1999

Dorothy V. (Maguire) Oliver of Wareham, a retired teacher in the Brockton and Woonsocket, R.I., schools, died of pancreatic cancer at her home Saturday. She was 68.

Born in Brockton, Mrs. Oliver received her bachelor's degree from Bridgewater State College and her master's degree in Media and Library Science from the University of Rhode Island. She worked in the Brockton schools for more than 25 years, teaching at Davis & Raymond Elementary, North Junior High and Brockton High School and as a librarian at East Side branch library and Brockton Public Library. She also worked in the Woonsocket, R.I., schools.

She was a member of the Brockton League of Women Voters and the Woman's Club (WAMS), and volunteered at the Wareham Free Library. She moved to Wareham in 1985 and was a communicant at St. Margaret's Church, Brockton.

Mrs. Oliver is survived by her husband, Warren; two sons, Wayne and Brian, both of Bridgewater; three daughters, Denise Conley of Bridgewater, Deborah Wilbur of West Bridgewater and Karen Oliver of Salem, N.H.; her mother, Dorothy Maguire of East Bridgewater; a brother, Leo Maguire of East Bridgewater; four grandchildren and many cousins.

A funeral Mass was celebrated yesterday at St. Margaret's Church, Brockton.

Burial was in the family lot at Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.

Sister Marguerite Louise Kiley, at 91
Ipswich

Monday, April 26, 1999

Sister Marguerite Louise Kiley, a nun who taught at several Massachusetts schools, died Wednesday at the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur Residence in Ipswich. She was 91.

Born in Lawrence, she graduated from St. Mary's High School.

Sister Marguerite entered the Sisters of Notre Dame Novitiate at Waltham in 1931. She professed her first vows on July 30, 1933 and her final vows in 1938.

Her teaching ministry began at Holy Redeemer in East Boston. Her other teaching ministries were at St. Augustine's in South Boston, St. Mary's in Waltham, Holy Name in Chicopee, Notre Dame Juniorate in Wenham, and Notre Dame Academy in Roxbury, Worcester, Tyngsboro and Hingham. She then retired to the Ipswich residence.

She is survived by a niece, Mary Lou Verni of Caledonia, N.Y.; and a great niece.

A funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. today in Our Lady Queen Chapel, Ipswich.

Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Ipswich.

Paul D. Crimmins, 67, retired fire lieutenant
Marshfield

Tuesday, April 13, 1999

Paul D. Crimmins of Marshfield, a retired Boston Fire lieutenant, died Saturday at Brigham and Women's Hospital. He was 67.

Born in Boston, Mr. Crimmins graduated from Boston schools.

During the Korean War, he served in the Navy.

Mr. Crimmins was a firefighter for many companies within the Boston Fire Department. He retired in 1996 after 37 years of service.

He was placed on the Roll of Merit in 1964 for his heroic rescue of a boy from the third floor of a burning building in East Boston. He was cited as ``performing rescue work under very difficult conditions, at great risk, and without regard for his own safety."

He was also employed as a truck driver for United Liquors for 17 years and was a member of Local 718, Boston Fire Department.

Mr. Crimmins is survived by his wife of 45 years, Genevieve (Farrell) of Marshfield; a daughter, Lynne Ann of Marshfield; two sons, William ``Bill" of Hanover and Paul of South Boston; two brothers, Joseph of Holbrook and Daniel fo Maynard; three sisters, Marie Martin and Lorraine, both of Quincy and Bernadette Donahue of Kingston; one grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated tomorrow at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's by the Sea Church, Marshfield.

Burial will follow in Couch Cemetery, Marshfield.

Arrangements by MacDonald Funeral Home, Marshfield.

Pauline Shepard, 81, homemaker, crafter
Arlington

Thursday, May 6, 1999

Pauline M. (Borokas) Shepard of Arlington, a homemaker and crafter, died Monday at Symmes Hospital in Arlington after a long illness. She was 81.

Born in Cambridge, she lived in Arlington for 40 years.

She was a member of the Waltham Senior Citizens.

Wife of the late William, Mrs. Shepard is survived by three sons, Robert of Gales Ferry, Conn., John of Chelmsford and Paul of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and 10 grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Rev. Ronald Chiasson, at 60, prison chaplain
Waltham

Thursday, April 29, 1999

The Rev. Ronald Chiasson of Chula Vista, Calif., and a native of Waltham, a prison chaplain, died Thursday at Donovan State Prison after a heart attack during Mass at the facility. He was 60.

Born and raised in Waltham, Father Chiasson attended Boston University and Oblate College in Washington, D.C.

He was ordained in 1976 and he spent his early years in the ministry as an associate pastor at St. Margaret Mary Church in Harrisburg, Pa.

Father Chiasson served for eight years at Donovan State Prison as chaplain. For the past six months, he also served two Masses each Sunday at Most Precious Blood Church in Chula Vista.

He first worked in prisons in 1979, when he became chaplain at the London Correctional Institute in London, Ohio.

Previously, he served from 1987 - 1990 as a Navy chaplain aboard the aircraft carrier USS Constellation.

He also worked in the youth ministry at St. William's Church in Tewksbury, where he was associate pastor from 1980 - 1985.

Father Chiasson was ``well - liked and respected and always willing to give time to help others," said Peter Flores, Father Chiasson's supervisor.

Father Chiasson is survived by his sister, Alice Lemerande of Coburg, Ore.; and four brothers, Edmond Joseph of Waltham, Vincent of Winchester, Richard of Bellingham, and Thomas of Garden Grove, Calif.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m., May 13 at St. Joseph's Church, Waltham.

Private burial was in California.

James V. Oteri, at 73, retired state police major
Barnstable; Marco Island, Fla

Tuesday, November 9, 1999

James V. Oteri of the Bass River section of Barnstable and Marco Island, Fla., a retired Massachusetts State Police major, died Tuesday in Naples, Fla., of complications from Lou Gehrig's disease. He was 73.

As a youth, Mr. Oteri was elected captain of the Weymouth High School football team and was selected twice to be captain of the Patriot Ledger All - Scholastic football team.

He served in the Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division from 1945 to 1947.

He was a member of the state police for 20 years, retiring with the rank of major in 1975. With the state police, he served as commanding officer for the Bureau of Field Operations.

Also, he played a crucial role in the creation of the State Police Association of Massachusetts and was chosen to be the organization's first president.

After retiring from the state police, he worked at Raytheon Corp. of Lexington as director of physical security for 16 years.

Mr. Oteri was a member of the Weymouth Board of Selectmen, of which he was elected chairman. He served as both secretary and chairman of the Weymouth Town Finance Committee and was president of the board of directors of the Mariner Residents Association in Marco Island, Fla.

He was inducted as the inaugural member of the Weymouth Athletic Hall of Fame.

Mr. Oteri is survived by his wife, Barbara (Grounds); two sons, James V. Jr. of Pleasanton, Calif., and Stephen E. of Seminole, Fla.; a daughter, Christine C. of Plymouth; two brothers, Gregory of Riverside, Calif., and Anthony of Marshfield; two sisters, Josephine Schmidt of Riverside, Calif., and Pauline Panciocco of Canton; and five grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 8 a.m. today at St. Francis Xavier Church, South Weymouth.

Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Arrangements by McDonald Funeral Home, North Weymouth.

Eva M. Ouellette, 80, computer manager
Cambridge

Monday, November 15, 1999

Eva M. (Boisvert) Ouellette of Cambridge, a retired computer manager, died Thursday at the Belmont Manor Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. She was 80.

Born in Nova Scotia, she graduated from Gorham High in New Hampshire in 1937. She lived in Cambridge for 55 years.

She worked as a computer manager for the Arthur D. Little Co. until her retirement in 1985.

The wife of the late Louis, Mrs. Ouellette is survived by two sisters, Lena M. Cooper of Fruitland Park, Fla., and Rita Tucker of Gorham, N.H.; an aunt, Jenette Boisvert - Bessett of Lyndonville, Vt.; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. today, at St. John's Church, Cambridge.

Burial will follow in Cambridge Cemetery.

Arrangements by Keefe Funeral Home, Cambridge.
