Terrance Koen, 45

Centerville - Terrance David Koen, 45, formerly of Braintree, died unexpectedly at home on February 13, 1998.

He was the husband of Elizabeth (Donovan) Koen.

Born in Quincy, he was a graduate of Braintree High School and attended Quincy College. He was a lifelong resident of Braintree until moving to Centerville in 1986.

Mr. Koen was the owner of OMT En-terprises Management Co. of Hyannis. For many years he managed the Courtyard Resort, Main Street, Hyannis.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Chapel, Barnstable. He enjoyed playing and watching basketball and was a friend of Bill W.

Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Nicole Koen and Colleen Koen, and a son, Paul Koen, all of Centerville; his mother, Elizabeth (Olsen) Koen of Braintree; two sisters, Mary Mochen, also of Braintree, and Elaine Houde of Norwell; two brothers, Edward Koen of Danville, California and Stephen Koen of Braintree; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held February 17 at the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home in Hyannis, and was followed by a Mass in Our Lady of Hope Chapel in Barnstable. Burial was private.

John F. Lally, 77

Osterville - John F. Lally, 77, a retired teacher and coach, died February 7, 1998 at E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford.

He was the husband of Dorothy (French) Lally.

Born in Holyoke, Mr. Lally moved to Osterville from Arlington, Va. in 1977. He was a 1943 graduate of Amherst College, where he was the captain of the baseball team from 1942 to 1943. In 1959 he was named to the First Team All-Amherst Baseball Team.

He was a teacher and coach at Worcester Academy, then went to the CIA, where he worked for 24 years in the Far East Division until his retirement in 1974.

Mr. Lally was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in China with SACO, training guerrillas. He was an alcohol and drug counselor in Arlington, Va., and for Cape Counseling Center in Hyannis.

He was a member of the Osterville Men's Club, Cape Cod Horticultural Society, Men's Club and Senior Bowling Leagues, and of the Amherst Club of Cape Cod, where he served as treasurer. He served as a town representative for five years.

Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Laura French Jessup of Fairfax Station, Va.; three brothers, James Lally of Holyoke, William Lally of Hadley and Vincent Lally of Westfield, N.J. and two grandsons. He was the father of the late J. Dickinson Lally.

A memorial service was held February 11 at the United Methodist Church in Osterville and burial was private.

Marie "Loretta" Latshaw

Framingham - Marie "Loretta" (Thibault) Latshaw, who leaves a daughter and sister on the Cape, died February 12, 1998 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

She was the wife of Robert F. Latshaw for 40 years.

Born in Church Point, Canada, she lived in Framingham for the past 31 years. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Jeremiah's Church in Framingham, where she was a daily communicant and member of the women's guild and St. Jeremiah Alter Society.

Mrs. Latshaw loved gardening and walking.

Surviving besides her husband are two sons, Robert F. Latshaw Jr. of Franklin and William J. Latshaw of Framingham; two daughters, Janet A. Mannheim of Wellesley and Carol L. Eccleston of Sandwich; two sisters, Margaret West of Reading and Yvonne Fitzpatrick of Marstons Mills; seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral was held February 14 at the Eugene J. McCarthy and Sons Funeral Home in Framingham, and was followed by a Mass in St. Jeremiah's Church. Burial was private.

Jean A. Lohr, 73

West Dennis - Jean A. (Purdue) Lohr, 73, died February 13, 1998 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis after a brief illness.

She was the wife of the late Arthur C. Lohr.

Mrs. Lohr was born and raised in Toronto, Canada and moved to Cape Cod in 1945.

She lived in Barnstable, where she and her husband managed the Cape Cod Ranch in Cummaquid.

In 1950 she moved to West Dennis and began a horse-trading business and raised horses for a developing horse track. In 1951 the Lohrs began building homes in the West Dennis area and were significant in the development of the Trotting Park neighborhood.

Mrs. Lohr was involved in numerous community activities. She was a former member of West Dennis Community Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Virginia Lohr Ortis of Vernon, Conn., Teresa Flynn-Nydam of West Dennis and Mari-Jane Lohr-Crawford of Cumbria, England; two sons, A. Craig Lohr of Lauderdale by the Sea, Fla., and Scott T. Lohr of West Dennis; a brother, Arthur E. Purdue of Canada; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A funeral was held February 17 at the Hallett Funeral Home in South Yarmouth. Burial was in West Dennis Cemetery.

John P. McBride, 31

South Dennis - John P. McBride, 31, owner of a plumbing business in South Dennis, died unexpectedly at home on February 11, 1998.

He was the son of James E. McBride of West Yarmouth and Jeannie E. McBride of South Yarmouth.

He was born in Hyannis and was raised and educated in Yarmouth. He graduated from Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School in 1984.

Becoming one of the youngest licensed plumbers in Massachusetts, he started his own plumbing businss, JPM Plumbing and Heating in South Dennis.

An avid golfer, Mr. McBride was a member of the Bass River and Bayberry Hills golf clubs. He loved fishing, water sports, cribbage, his dog and Buddie Hobson.

Surviving besides his parents are two brothers, Michael R. McBride and Kevin J. McBride, both of West Yarmouth; a sister, Danielle McBride of Canaan, N.H.; his maternal grandparents, John and Katherine VanLeeuwen of Marstons Mills; his longtime frient Robin Sturtevant of Hyannis; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A funeral service was held February 16 a the West Yarmouth Congregational Church. Burial followed in Ancient Cemetery in Yarmouthport.

Norman M. Straughn, 75

Centerville - Norman M. Straughn, 75, a World War II combat veteran, died at home on February 7, 1998 of cancer.

He was born in Dorchester, and served with the Army's 328th Infantry during World War II as a heavy machine gunner. He was stationed in France, Belgium and along the German border until being evacuated to England due to wounds. Mr. Straughn was credited with shooting down a Fokker 190 plane that was strafing the rifle company he was supporting.

After the service he worked as a salesman and exterminator for an exterminating company in Dedham.

He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He was a longtime resident of the Hough's Neck section of Quincy and a member and deacon of the Congregationalist Church in Quincy before moving to Centerville in 1993.

He is survived by six sons, Norman M. Straughn III of Centerville, Jo H. Straughn of Baytown, Texas , Francis M. Straughn, Greg E. Straughn and Russell B. Straughn, all of Brewster, and Kim A. Straughn of Elgin, Ill.; a daughter, Gloriann L. Henderson of South Yarmouth; three brothers, Robert Straughn of Holbrook, Paul Straughn of Carver and Harold Straughn of Hanover; two sisters, Ann Malloy of Bradenton, Fla. and Shirley Tobin of Quincy; 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Funeral and burial were private.

Gertrude Frances Yakola, 80

Barnstable - Gertrude Frances (Anderson) Yakola, 80, died February 11, 1998 at Hospice House after a long illness.

She was the wife of the late Frank Yakola.

Born, raised and educated in Dorchester, she and her husband lived in Quincy, East Braintree and California for a short time before moving to Cape Cod, settling in West Barnstable in 1956.

Mrs. Yakola was employed by Armstrong Cork Co. of Braintree, Martin's Bakery and W.T.. Grant's before her retirement in the 1960s. She enjoyed traveling around New England, making afghans and reading. She also cared for children from many families in her neighborhood.

Surviving are two sons, Kenneth P. Yakola of West Yarmouth and Bruce E. Yakola of Barnstable; a brother, John E. Anderson of West Barnstable; eight grandchildren, including Laurie Waterfield of Centerville and Robert Stansifer of West Barnstable, whom she and her husband raised after their mother's death; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Burial was private, and the memorial Mass was held February 16 at Our Lady of Hope Chapel in West Barnstable.

Robert Bush-Brown, 69

Yarmouthport - Robert Bush-Brown, 69, former communications consultant and Korean War veteran, died February 18, 1998 at the Center for Optimum Care in Mashpee.

He was the husband of Helen (Whittemore) Bush-Brown.

Born in Pawtucket, R.I, he attended Nottingham Academy in Maryland and Springfield College in Springfield. He worked as a communications consultant for Trans Lux Corp. in Norwich, Conn. Mr. Bush-Brown retired 11 years ago and moved to Yarmouthport from Shrewsbury, where he lived for 34 years. He worked as a starter for Kings Way Golf Club in Yarmouthport.

A Korean War Army veteran, Mr. Bush-Brown was a member of the First Congregational Church in Shrewsbury. He also enjoyed golf, boating and traveling.

Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Barbara L. Kern of West Barnstable and Susan L. Sanford of Auburn; a son, James P. Bush-Brown of South Yarmouth; a brother, Jack Blease of Orono, Maine; and five grandchildren.

A funeral service was held February 23 at the John-Lawrence Funeral Home in Marstons Mills. Burial was in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

James Gregory Condon, 80

Wareham - James Gregory Condon, 80, a self-employed children's photographer, died at home February 21, 1998 after a long illness.

He was the husband of Lorinda (Gookinflood) Condon.

Mr. Condon was born in Wilton, N.H., and graduated from Stoughton High School. He lived most of his life in Whitman, and the last 24 years in Wareham. He enjoyed traveling all over the country.

Mr. Condon also worked at Martin's Mobile Homes and volunteered with Meals on Wheels.

Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Dawn Monahan of Holbrook and Jacqueline Smith of Woodsville, N.H.; a son, Robert Condon of Marstons Mills; three stepchildren, Christopher and Gary Hood of Plymouth and Lana Smith of Brockton; two sisters, Marilyn Greene of Osterville and Carolyn Elbon of Titusville, Fla.; 24 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren; He was the father of the late James G. Condon III and the stepfather of the late Richard Flood.

A memorial service was held February 25 at the Tabernacle of Praise Church in Wareham.
