Sister St. Thomas (formerly Margaret, 'Peg') Lydon, 98, formerly of Norwood

Monday, October 14, 2002

NORWOOD - Sister St. Thomas (formerly Margaret, 'Peg') Lydon, 98, formerly of Norwood, a Franciscan missionary for 70 years, died Friday, Sep. 27, 2002, at the St. Elizabeth Motherhouse in Allegany, N.Y.

Born in 1904, sister St. Thomas was raised in Norwood. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, and earned a Lane Medal while graduating from Norwood High School in 1922. She worked at Hollingsworth & Vose in East Walpole until 1932, when she entered the novitiate of the Franciscan Order of Sisters based in Allegany.

After taking her vows in 1933, she was assigned as a missionary to Kingston, Jamaica in the West Indies, working as a school teacher for poor children. She also worked at Montego Bay during her many years in Jamaica. After 60 years as a missionary, she retired to the Franciscan Motherhouse in Allegany in 1993.

She leaves a sister, Frances (Caddy) Lydon of Dedham, recently of Norwood; a brother, Dr. Roy T. Lydon of Norwood; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews in Norwood and Sharon.

A memorial was held Sunday, Sept. 29, at the Motherhouse. A funeral Mass was held on Monday, Sept.30.

Burial was in the St. Elizabeth Motherhouse cemetery in Allegany.

She will be remembered in the daily mass of St. Catherine of Siena Church, Norwood, on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 6:45 a.m.

Linda Bradley, 47, Bellingham

BELLINGHAM - Linda (Maguire) Bradley, 47, if Bellingham, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at her residence.

She was the wife of the late Ronald C. Bradley.

Born in Waltham, she was the daughter if the late Melvin P. and Victoria M. (Ajamian) Maguire.

She attended Bellingham High School, Class 1973. She worked as a waitress at Beacons Restaurant in Walpole for several years and previously worked as a secretary for Kramer Insurance Co. for several years. She enjoyed arts and crafts.

She leaves a son, Jonathan R. Bradley of Bellingham; a brother, Paul 'M. Maguire of Bellingham; and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A funeral will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 10 a.m., at the Bellingham Bible Baptist Church, 365 Hartford Ave., Bellingham.

Burial will be at St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery of Bellingham.

Visiting hours will be held tomorrow, from 5 to 9 p.m., at the Cartier's Funeral Home, 151 So. Main St., Bellingham.

Barbara J. Colp, 70, Meredith, N.H.

NORWOOD - Barbara J. (Tauber) Colp, 70, of Meredith, N.H., formerly of Brockton and Norwood, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002.

She was the husband of Robert Colp, to whom she was married for 50 years, formerly of Canton.

Born in Norwood, she was the daughter of the late William and Irene (Keyes) Tauber of Norwood.

She graduated from Norwood High School, Class of 1950, attended Boston University and graduated from the University of New Hampshire Master Gardening Program.

She worked for many years in office management and accounting before moving to Plymouth, N.H., in 1989. She recently served as president of the New Hampton, NH Garden Club, and was an officer in the American Legion, Aux. Post 66 in New Hampshire.

She danced for the U.S.O. for 16 years and enjoyed crafts, bingo, dancing, beach fishing, and spent time organizing her class reunions as well as her husband's.

Besides her husband, she leaves a sister - in - law, Muriel T. Red of Brockton; and two special friends, Mary Healy of Norwood and Sally Wadleigh of Kingston, N.H.

She was the sister of the late Robert Tauber.

Calling hours will be held tomorrow, from 4 to 7 p.m.

A graveside service will be on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 10 a.m., in Highland Cemetery, Norwood.

A memorial service will be held in New Hampshire at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Kraw - Kornack Funeral Home, 1248 Washington St., Norwood.

Donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

H. Gertrude Lamore, 91, Walpole

WALPOLE - H. Gertrude (Healey) Lamore, 91, of Walpole, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at Caritas Norwood Hospital.

She was the wife of the late Edward A. Lamore.

Born in Walpole, she was the daughter of the late David M. and Henrietta (Muehlberger) Healey.

She was a longtime member of the Walpole Historical Society, Walpole Women's Club and the Blessed Sacrament Ladies Sodality. She enjoyed sewing, baking and reading.

She leaves two sons, Richard J. Lamore of Arlington, Wash., and David G. Lamore of Framingham; two daughters, Mary Anne Zambrano of Cleburne, Texas, and Roberta L. Muse of Walpole; 10 grandchildren; and three great - grandchildren.

She was the sister of the late David Healey and Mary Hansen.

A funeral will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 8:15 a.m., from the Ginley Funeral Home, 892 Main St., Walpole.

A funeral Mass will follow, at 9 a.m., at the Blessed Sacrament Church.

Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, South Walpole.

Visiting hours will be held tomorrow, from 4 to 8 p.m.

Major Thomas Lopez, 43, Lynn

WESTWOOD - Major Thomas A. Lopez, 43, formerly of Westwood, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002 at the Union Hospital in Lynn.

He was the son of Robert R. and Carol Jean (McFaul) Lopez of Florida.

He served with the U.S. Army veteran and received the Bronze Star during the Gulf War.

He leaves his children, Christel J. Lopez and Sabrina L. Lopez, both of South Carolina and Erin T. McAffrey of Texas; brothers, Charles R. Lopez of Lynn, Edward S. Lopez of Medway, Bruce S. Lopez of Florida and James M. Lopez of Millis; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also brother of the late Laura Jean Lopez.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, at 2 p.m., at the First Parish of Westwood United Church, 340 Clapboardtree St. Westwood.

Burial will be in New Westwood Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the D.A.V. National Service Foundation, JFK Federal Building, Room 1575B, Boston, MA 02203.

Dorothy M. Luise, 66, Norwood

NORWOOD - Dorothy M. (Kehoe) Luise, 66, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002.

She was the wife of Jeremiah P. Luise.

She was the daughter of Julia Rosentel of Westwood.

She leaves her children, Judith A. Kelly of Franklin, Deborah Gundel of Norwood, Donna M. Derenzo of Needham, William J. Luise of Norwood, Corrine A. Weber of Norwood and John R. Luise of Norwood; a sister, Martin Rosentel of Arizona; and eight grandchildren.

A funeral will be held on Friday, Oct. 18, at 9 a.m., from Kraw - Kornack Funeral Home, 1248 Washington St., Norwood.

A funeral Mass will follow, at 10 a.m., at St. Timothy Church, Norwood.

Burial will be at Highland Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held tomorrow, from 4 to 9 p.m.

Robert V. Trusevitch, 48, Marstons Mills

NORWOOD - Robert V. Trusevitch, 48, of Marstons Mills, formerly of Norwood, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at his residence.

Born in Norwood, he was the son of Edward J. and Pauline S. (Comolli) Trusevitch of Norwood.

He attended Norfolk Agricultural School in Walpole and worked as a laborer in construction. He was a member of the St. George Catholic Church, Norwood.

Besides his parents, he leaves a son, Robbie Trusevitch; two brothers, Peter Trusevitch of Wrentham and David A. Trusevitch of Norwood; and two sisters, Paula Stanton of North Attleboro and Lisa Conrad of Norwood,

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 9 a.m., at the St. George Catholic Church, with Rev. Wolkovich officiating.

Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Norwood.

Visiting hours will be tomorrow, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Kraw - Kornack Funeral Home, Norwood.

LOUISE CURRIE
Louise Currie died April 1, 1997 at Our Island Home where she was a resident since last May.
She was born on Jan. 12, 1910 in Manchester. N.H., the daughter of Eric and Etta Youngquist. She attended Manchester schools, and upon her marriage moved to Worcester, Mass., where she lived until the early 70s when she and her husband retired and moved to Nantucket to be near their family. For many years she was a bookkeeper for Narcus Brothers in Worcester.
An avid church - goer, she was an active member both of Adams Square Congregational Church in Worcester, and the First Congregational Church in Nantucket. She was also a member of the order of Eastern Star and the Order of Amaranth.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles in 1974 to whom she was married for 36 years. She leaves her daughter and son - in - law Eleanor and Alan MacVicar; her grandchildren, Christina MacVicar - Welch of Milford, N.H., Dr. Jessie MacVicar of Brighton, Angus MacVicar of Nantucket, and her great - grandchildren Moira and Macklin Welch of Milford, N.H.
Services were held Friday at the First Congregational Church. Interment was at the Prospect Hill Cemetery.

HAROLD PAULSON
Harold Paulson, 86, died in Dover, N.H. on Sunday, April 6, 1997 after a long illness. Born in Worcester, Mass., he was the son of Hilding W. and Anna Kristina (Qvist) Paulson. He was educated in the Worcester schools.
He is survived by a daughter, Carol Gile of Barnstead, N.H.; two sons, Barry E. Paulson of Nantucket and Rodney E. Paulson of Portland, Maine; four grandchildren and four great - grandchildren.
A funeral service was held last Thursday at St. Ansgar Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portland, Maine. He was buried in Evergreen Cemetery, also in Portland.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Maine Swimming Hall of Fame, c/o Mr. Lee Crocker, 2 Laskey Road, Windham, Maine 04062.

LITA N. THERIAULT
Lita N. Theriault, 41, died on April 5, 1997 at her home in S. Yarmouth, Mass. Born on Nantucket, she attended Nantucket schools and graduated from Waltham High School in 1974. She attended Tidewater Junior College in Chesapeake, Va., and graduated from Otis Parsons School of Design in Los Angeles, Calif., with a degree in graphic and fashion design. After moving to Waltham in 1970, she returned to Nantucket in the early 1990s, then located in S. Yarmouth in Oct., 1996.
Her achievements include work as a free - lance graphic designer, fashion designer, and photographer, and the design of a home to be built on Nantucket reflecting the 1920 era.
She was a Communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis, Mass. She loved swimming, walking, biking, ice skating, nature, the environment, and animals.
She was the granddaughter of the late Capt. John P. Conway. She is survived by her parents, John S. "Syd" and Patricia A. (Terrio) Conway of Nantucket; a sister, Lisa A. Conway of Nantucket, and several aunts and uncles.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Francis Xavier Capital Fund, c/o St. Francis Xavier Church, 347 South St., Hyannis, Mass. 02601.

PETER IRVING SYLVIA
Peter Irving Sylvia, 91, passed away peacefully on April 15, 1997 at his home on Orange Street, Nantucket. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 51 years, Eileen Frances (Smith) Sylvia. Born on the Island August 21, 1905, he was the son of the late Peter L. Sylvia and Catherine Johnson Sylvia.
He is survived by his three children, Peter E. Sylvia of Nantucket, Anne C. Tompkins of Fairfax, Va., and Eileen S. Duke of Kilmarnock, Va. He leaves four grandchildren, Michael W. Tompkins of Arlington, Va., Peter J. Tompkins of Fairfax, Va., David A. Sylvia and Katelyn E. Sylvia, both of Nantucket. He is also survived by his three sisters, Catherine A. Sylvia and Mary J. Faunce of Nantucket, and Frances E. McLaughlin of Malden, Mass.; a devoted and well - loved daughter - in - law, Susan (Lamb) Sylvia, and two loved and respected sons - in - law, William P. Tompkins and Granville A. Duke, Jr. He leaves several nephews, nieces, great - nieces, great - nephews, and cousins.
Peter Irving lived on Nantucket his entire life. He was a member of the Nantucket High School graduating class of 1923. After 40 years of service he retired in 1964 from the U.S. Post Office on Nantucket. He was an active parishioner of St. Mary's, Our Lady of the Isle Catholic Church, all his adult life, and a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 70 years. An avid golfer from childhood (he won the caddy tournament on Nantucket Sept. 8, 1917) he was a member of Miacomet Golf Club and played regularly until his death. He was also a self - taught musician and enjoyed playing his piano every day. Besides entertaining family and friends he would often go to the Homestead and play the piano for the residents.
He was a friend to everybody he met. Whether on the golf course, often accompanied by his son Peter and grandson David, at social functions and family gatherings, or simply walking the streets of Nantucket, he brightened the day of those he met with his kindness, gentle smile and little jokes.
A funeral Mass was said at 10 a.m. April 19, 1997 at St. Mary's Church with the Rev. Thomas C. Lopes officiating. Pall bearers were his grandson Michael W. Tompkins, nephew Robert Irving Sylvia, great - nephew Kevin J. Sousa, good friend and golfing buddy Mel Cardos, and his relatives by marriage, Jay Lamb and Steven Lamb. Following the service the family received friends at the Miacomet Golf Club. In recognition of his two favorite pastimes, Peter Irving was buried with his three wood, his lifetime membership card to Miacomet tucked in his pocket, and the piano sheet music to "Dawn in Old Nantucket."
