Robert P. Johnson, 70

Wednesday, January 14, 1998

WORCESTER -- Robert P. Johnson, 70, of Epworth Street, World War II Navy veteran and retired postal worker, died yesterday morning in University of Massachusetts Hospital, after being stricken ill at the hospital.

He leaves his wife of 41 years, Beverly M. (Lynch) Johnson; a daughter, Barbara M. Green of Worcester; a son, Paul X. Johnson of Princeton; four grandsons; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of Ernest W. and Mary T. (Lyons) Johnson, and lived here all his life. He graduated from St. John's High School in 1945 and earned an associate's degree in accounting from Becker Junior College. He was a disabled World War II Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific.

Mr. Johnson worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years and was postmaster in the town of Shrewsbury for many years, retiring in 1981. After retirement, he drove a shuttle van between the Worcester and Leicester campuses of Becker College.

He was a longtime member of St. Catherine of Sweden Church where he was a lector. He was a former member of the parish council. He was a member of Adelphi Council 4181 Knights of Columbus in Shrewsbury and served as grand knight last year. He was a member of St. John's High School Alumni Association, Emerald Club and First Friday Club of Worcester Diocese. He was a longtime volunteer for the Bishop's Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinners.

The funeral will be held Friday from Kelly Funeral Home, 154 Lincoln St., with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Catherine of Sweden Church, 1 Wiser Ave. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. Members of the Shrewsbury Knights of Columbus will conduct a ritual at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to McAuley Nazareth Home for Boys, 77 Mulberry St., Leicester, 01524.

Arnold F. Rahaim, 77, owned business in Gardner

GARDNER -- Arnold F. Rahaim, 77, of 39 Sand St., a retired business owner, died Sunday, April 22, in Heywood Hospital, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 54 years, Marian E. (Armstrong) Rahaim; a son, Gary Rahaim of Gardner; a daughter, Donna Allen of Lunenburg; a brother, Edward Rahaim of Orange; five grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. Five brothers, Philip, Sharkey, Albert J., William and Robert Rahaim, and a sister, Isabel Landon, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Thomas and Sadie (Haaj) Rahaim, and lived many years in Gardner. He attended Commerce High School in Worcester.

Mr. Rahaim owned Rahaim Installation from 1963 until his retirement in 1989. He previously was a floor installer in California. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Hillcrest Aerie Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Napolean Club. An avid bowler, he participated in bowling leagues in the city.

The funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 26, in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 166 Cross St. After cremation, burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1818, Memphis, TN 38101. Smith Funeral Home, 69 Vernon St., is directing arrangements.

Anita R. Needham, 81

WORCESTER -- Anita R. (Kantakevich) Needham, 81, of Worcester, died Monday, July 23, in the Hospice Residence after a brief illness. Funeral arrangements, under the direction of O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Ave., are incomplete.

Robert L. Smith, 68

Sunday, October 1, 2000

FITCHBURG -- Robert L. Smith, 68, of 360 Electric Ave., died Friday, Sept. 29, in Mariner Nursing Center of Central Mass.

He leaves six sons. He was born in Fitchburg, son of Charles P. and Christina (West) Smith, and lived in Fitchburg and Gardner most of his life.

Mr. Smith worked for the James River Corp., retiring several years ago.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, in Aubuchon-Moorcroft Funeral Home, 132 Woodland St. After cremation, burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. A calling hour will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, in the funeral home.

Brittany A. Howard, 3; of pool accident injuries

SPENCER -- Brittany A. Howard, 3, of 97 Meadow Road, died Sunday, July 15, at home from injuries suffered in a pool accident.

She leaves her mother, Melissa J. Howard of Gilbertville; her father, Bill J. Goddard of Spencer; her maternal grandmother, Wendy Lareau of Spencer, her paternal grandfather, Vernon Goddard of Spencer; her maternal great-grandmother, Beatrice Lareau of Spencer; and her great aunt, Susan E. Marsh, with whom she lived.

The funeral will be held Thursday, July 19, from J. Henri Morin & Son Funeral Home, 23 Maple Terrace, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 7 Church St. After cremation, burial of ashes will be in Mary Queen of the Rosary Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, in the funeral home. Please omit flowers. Donations may be made to the Spencer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 147, Spencer, MA 01562 or the Brittany A. Raymond Kapinos, 86

Wednesday, January 14, 1998

WARE -- Raymond Kapinos, 86, of 230 Belchertown Road, died Monday in Pine Manor Nursing Home, Springfield, after a long illness.

He leaves nieces and nephews. He was born in West Warren, son of John and Sophia (Lazarz) Kapinos, and lived here most of his life.

Mr. Kapinos worked at Ware Knitters, Inc. many years, retiring in 1974. Previously, he worked at Ware Shoe Co. He was a member of St. Mary's Church.

The funeral will be held tomorrow from Cebula Funeral Home, 66 South St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 60 South St. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. The calling hour is 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at the funeral home.

Ruth H. Keith, 72

Monday, January 12, 1998

HOLDEN -- Ruth H. (Connors) Keith, 72, of 260 Main St., a school bus driver for 17 years, died Saturday night at home after an illness.

She leaves her husband of 55 years, Irving C. Keith; two sons, John I. Keith of Ruskin, Fla., and William F. Keith of Colonial Heights, Va.; two daughters, Kathleen A. Sherblom of Holden and Susan D. Whalen of Monkton, Vt.; a brother, Ernest Clark; a sister, Bertha Haskins, both of Holden; six grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Holden, daughter of John and Bertha (Miller) Connors.

Mrs. Keith was a school-bus driver for Migdelany & Sons in Holden for 17 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Holden.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church of Holden, 1216 Main St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Holden, Memorial Fund, 1216 Main St., Holden 01520.

Fred A. Klier, 90

Monday, January 12, 1998

WORCESTER -- Fred A. Klier, 90, of 244 Belmont St., formerly of 29 Westboro St., a contractor for many years, died Saturday night in Providence Care Center after a long illness.

His wife, Florence (Cummins) Klier, died in 1992. He leaves two daughters, Constance B. Fowle of Oceanside, Calif., and Kathleen Klier of Boxboro; four grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Methuen, son of John and Elizabeth (Wirth) Klier, and lived here more than 50 years. He graduated from Lawrence High School.

Mr. Klier was a floor-covering contractor for many years, retiring in 1980. He was a life communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church.

The funeral will be held tomorrow from Arthur S. Manzi & Son Funeral Home, 179 Shrewsbury St., with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. A calling hour is 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Providence Care Center, Activity Fund, 119 Providence St., Worcester 01604.

Marianne T. Kneeland, 76

Sunday, January 11, 1998

WORCESTER -- Marianne T. Kneeland, 76, of 373 May St., a social worker for many years, died Friday in Beaumont Nursing Home, Westboro.

She leaves a brother, Philip R. Kneeland of Worcester; and many nephews and nieces. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Dr. John and Theresa J. (Matthews) Kneeland. She graduated from South High School and Emmanuel College, Boston, in 1943. She earned a master's degree from Boston College School of Social Work in 1944.

Miss Kneeland was a field social worker for the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children for 38 years, retiring in 1986. She previously worked for Catholic Charities of Boston and the Boston Department of Public Welfare. She was a member of Christ the King Church and Boston College Alumni Association.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, 286 Lincoln St., Worcester 01605. Athy Memorial Home 111 Lancaster St., is directing arrangements.

Statia Konopka, 87

Stanley J.G. Koval, 46

FITCHBURG -- Stanley J.G. Koval, 46, of 97 Birch St., a machinist for many years, died Saturday in Leominster Hospital after an illness.

He leaves a daughter, Jessica Bedard of Ayer; his father, Joseph S. Koval, and his stepmother, Lillian L. (Kaulback) Beauvais Koval; a brother, Joseph Koval, all of Fitchburg; four sisters, Andrea V. Koval of Fitchburg, Mary Berthiaume of San Jose, Calif., Amanda C. Fisher and Jennifer J. Senn, both of Boise, Idaho; a granddaughter; nephews and nieces. He was born in Fitchburg, son of Gertrude A. (Rheault) Koval, and lived here before moving to Ontario, Calif., in 1980. He returned here in 1995. He graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1970.

Mr. Koval was a machinist at Barkley & Dexter Machine Shop. He previously worked for 10 years at C&D Plastics in Ontario, Calif.

He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. He was an avid fisherman.

The funeral will be held tomorrow from Lavery-Chartrand Funeral Home, 99 Summer St., with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 59 Vernon St. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in St. Joseph's Cemetery. A calling hour is 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 7 Oak St, Worcester 01609.
