Leon J. Labbe Sr., 73

Wednesday, January 14, 1998

WORCESTER -- Leon J. “Frenchy” Labbe Sr., 73, of 50 Shrewsbury St., World War II Canadian Army veteran and a retired machinist, died Monday in University of Massachusetts Hospital, after being stricken ill at home.

He leaves his wife of 43 years, Margaret M. (Murphy) Labbe; two sons, Leon J. Jr. and Michael A. Labbe, both of Worcester; two daughters, Cathy Terry of Denton, Texas, and Patricia Douglas of Tampa Bay, Fla.; a brother, Albert Labbe of Quebec, Canada; two sisters, Cecile Dushanes, and Catharine Labbe, both of Quebec; a granddaughter; nephews and nieces. He was born in Quebec City, Canada, son of Albert and Roseanna (Turgeon) Labbe, and moved here many years ago. He served in the Canadian Army during World War II.

He was a machinist at Reliable Plating Co. for over 20 years, retiring in 1989. He previously worked for Prunier Construction Co. and Madigan Construction Co.

He was a life member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Ann's Church. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed wrestling.

The funeral will be held tomorrow from Arthur S. Manzi & Son Funeral Home, 179 Shrewsbury St., with a Mass at 9 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Ann's Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1818, Memphis, Tenn., 38101.

George F. Langton, 76

Monday, January 12, 1998

WORCESTER -- George F. Langton, 76, of 13 Healy Road, a telephone technician for 37 years, died Saturday in Mariner Health Care of Worcester.

His wife, Helen Mae (Monast) Langton, died in 1984. He leaves a son, Philip E. Langton; three daughters, Sharyn A. Morris of West Boylston, Eileen F. Dombrowski of Shrewsbury and Maria M. Langton of Worcester; a sister, Lillian Melican of Auburn; seven grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of Frank E. and Margaret C. (McMahon) Langton, and graduated from Commerce High School.

He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Asian-Pacific theater. He saw action in Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, New Britain and the Palau Islands. He received a Purple Heart.

Mr. Langton was a technician at New England Telephone Co. for 37 years, retiring in 1983.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church and a former member of its Parish Council. He was a member of Alhambra Council, Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America; Main South Post, American Legion, and Worcester Detachment, Marine Corps League.

A funeral service and burial will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Massachusetts Shelter for Homeless Veterans, 69 Grove St., Worcester 01605; or the Alzheimer's Association, 919 North Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL 60611. O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Ave., is directing arrangements.

Joseph A. LaPrise, 86

Tuesday, January 13, 1998

GARDNER -- Joseph A. LaPrise, 86, of 163B Blanchard St., formerly of 17 Norman St., died yesterday in Athol Hospital, Athol.

His wife, Angelina (Richards) LaPrise, died in 1985. He leaves a son, Steven J. LaPrise of Templeton; a daughter, Janice L. Roberts of Winthrop, Maine; a brother, George O. LaPrise of Gardner; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Born in Winchendon and a lifelong resident, he was the son of Frank and Mary L. (Laberge) LaPrise. A World War II Army veteran, he earned a Purple Heart and other commendations for his service with the 78th Infantry Division in Europe.

Mr. LaPrise was a furniture sprayer 45 years at Heywood-Wakefield Co., retiring many years ago. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. A member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Gardner Post 905, he worked on the Poppy drives and was part of the post's military funeral unit.

A military funeral will be held Thursday from John H. Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon St., with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 166 Cross St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling is 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The VFW ritual will be at 9:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Gardner Visiting Nurse Association, 34 Pearly Lane, Gardner 01440, or may be left at the funeral home.

Stanley A. Morrison, 90

Tuesday, August 7, 2001

WORCESTER -- The funeral Mass for Stanley A. Morrison, 90, of 114 Sterling St., who died Saturday, Aug. 4, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

He leaves his wife of 60 years, Mary A. (Janczukowicz) Morrison; a son, Chester J. Morrison of Worcester; a brother, Lawrence Morrison of the Manchaug section of Sutton; two sisters, Esther A. Darling of Uxbridge and Lillian Schmidt of Spring Hill, Fla.; two grandchildren; and a niece.

Mr. Morrison worked five years at Morgan Construction Co., retiring as a tool and cutter grinder 25 years ago. He previously worked 25 years at Harrington Richardson Arms Co.

Ruth Jordan Casey, 81

Sunday, January 28, 2001

WORCESTER -- Ruth (Gregory) Jordan Casey, 81, of South Grafton, formerly of Sunderland Road and formerly of Millbury, a retired nursing home worker, died Saturday, Jan. 27, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus.

Her husband, Alvin J. Casey, died in 1995. She leaves three sons, Gregory R. and Walter A. Jordan, both of South Grafton, and Donald C. Jordan of Millbury; five daughters, Elizabeth A. Richard of South Grafton, with whom she lived since October, Nancy A. Wandland of Sutton, Patricia A. Jordan of Asbury Park, N.J., Natalie L. Young of Millbury and Marie C. Jordan of Worcester; a sister, Loretta Hazelwood of Millbury; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Her first husband, Earl G. Jordan, died in 1967. She was born in Worcester, daughter of John P. and Delia E. (Friguglietti) Gregory, and lived many years in Millbury before returning to Worcester in 1972. She graduated from St. Stephen's High School in 1937.

Mrs. Casey was an activity coordinator 10 years at Mill Hill Nursing Home, retiring in 1982. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and a former member of St. Brigid's church, Millbury, where she was a Confraternity of Christian Doctrine teacher and an adult adviser. She was a past president of the Millbury Parent Teachers Association, a past member of the Massachusetts Association of Nursing Homes, and a volunteer at St. Stephen's Thrift Shop.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, Jan. 30, from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton St. Burial will be private. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Church Restoration Fund, 1290 Grafton St., Worcester, MA 01604; or to another charity.

Geraldine E. Laventure

Tuesday, January 13, 1998

SPENCER -- Geraldine E. (Lamy) Laventure, 79, of 12 Longview Drive, died Sunday in St. Vincent Hospital after an illness.

She leaves her husband of 49 years, William A. Laventure; a son, Raymond K. Laventure of Austin, Texas; a daughter, Shirley J. Goyette of Worcester; a sister, Evelyn Pilotte of Manchester, N.H.; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; nephews and nieces. Born in Manchester, N.H., daughter of Wilfred and Evelyn (Allard) Lamy, she lived in Spencer since 1949.

The funeral will be held tomorrow from J. Henri Morin & Son Funeral Home, 23 Maple Terrace, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 7 Church St. Burial will be in Mary, Queen of the Rosary Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Flowers may be sent, or memorial contributions made to the Spencer Rescue Squad, PO Box 147, Spencer 01562; or the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham 01701.

Margaret F. Ledin, 79

Wednesday, January 14, 1998

ACTON -- Margaret (Redin) Fawcett Ledin, 79, of Acton, and formerly of Boylston, died Friday at home after a long illness.

Her husband, Charles C. Ledin, died in 1988. She leaves two daughters, Judith F. Arnold of Sudbury and Leslie Hill Walker of Acton; a brother; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Her first husband, Raymond L. Fawcett Jr., died in 1970.

Mrs. Ledin was born in Sweden, daughter of Sigurd S. and Theresia (Larson) Redin, and came to this country in 1928. She lived in Stamford, Conn., and Sudbury before moving to Boylston.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Congregational Church, Concord Road, Sudbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Parmenter Health Services, 266 Cochituate Road, Wayland 01778. Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave., Acton, is directing arrangements.

Elvira R. Levine, 79

Sunday, January 11, 1998

WORCESTER -- Elvira R. (Abeles) Levine, 79, formerly of 5 Suburban Road, long active in Jewish affairs, died yesterday in the Jewish Healthcare Center.

Her husband of 57 years, Harold Levine, died in 1995. She leaves three sons, Raymond and Russell Levine, both of Worcester, and Kenneth Levine of East Greenwich, R.I.; a brother, Robert A. Abeles of Hallandale, Fla.; and seven grandchildren. She was born in New York City, daughter of Ernest and Josephine (Yorka) Abeles, and lived 50 years in Worcester. She then lived 19 years in Plantation, Fla., before returning here two years ago. She graduated from a local high school.

Mrs. Levine was a member of Temple Emanuel and a member and past president of its Sisterhood. She was a member of Worcester Chapter of Hadassah, Worcester Area Chapter of ORT and the National Women's Committee of Brandeis University. She was a life member of the Jewish Healthcare Center.

A funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow in Perlman Funeral Home, 1026 Main St. Burial will be in B'nai B'rith Cemetery. A memorial observance will be held through Wednesday evening at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Levine, 61 Lynnwood Lane. Memorial contributions may be made to Temple Emanuel, 280 May St., Worcester 01602; or the Jewish Healthcare Center, 629 Salisbury St., Worcester 01609.

Dr. Kenneth A. Lorenz, 55

WESTPORT, Conn. -- Dr. Kenneth A. Lorenz, 55, of Westport, formerly of Webster, died Saturday in Bridgeport Hospital after a short illness.

He leaves his wife, Colleen (Murphy) Lorenz, formerly of Sterling; two sons, Aaron Lorenz of San Diego and Jan Lorenz of Hudson; a daughter, Ella Brehm in Germany; his parents, Herman and Jane (Specht) Lorenz of Chicago; a brother, Raymond Lorenz of Minneapolis, and a niece. He was born in Chicago, and lived many years in the Worcester area, including Webster. He lived about six years in Westport. He earned a medical degree from the University of Illinois Medical School in Chicago and did post-graduate study in psychology at Brandeis University.

He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in Vietnam. He was discharged as a major.

Dr. Lorenz had been medical director of the Community Mental Health Care Center in Worcester, and later director of psychiatric services at Adcare Hospital in Worcester. He was also an associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester. He was then director of the Milford Mental Health Clinic in Connecticut. He also had a private practice for many years in Worcester and six years in Southport, Conn.

Dr. Lorenz was an enthusiastic gardener and collector of antiques.

A funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. today in Lesko Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield, Conn. After cremation, his ashes will be scattered over the Mosel River in Germany. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dr. Kenneth A. Lorenz Memorial Scholarship Fund, PO Box 1104, Greens Farms, CT 06436.

Robert B. MacDonald, 67; ex-Berlin official

BERLIN -- Robert B. MacDonald, 67, of 135 Pleasant St., a retired electronics engineer, and long active in town affairs, died yesterday in UMass Health System-Marlboro Hospital after a long illness.

He leaves his wife of 47 years, Florence C. (Lawson) MacDonald; two daughters, Linda L. Snyder of Grafton and Christine G.L. MacDonald of Hudson; and three grandchildren. He was born in Boston, son of Ernest B. and Dorothy (Byrnes) MacDonald, and later lived in Natick. He lived 40 years in Berlin. He attended Natick High School and Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. He served in the Coast Guard during the Korean War. He then served in the Coast Guard Reserve.

Mr. MacDonald was an engineer at GenRad Inc. in Bolton and Concord for many years before he retired. He was a former dispatcher for the Berlin Police and Fire departments. He formerly served in the Berlin Rescue Squad and the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department.

He once served on the Berlin Planning Board. He was a former trustee of the Berlin Public Library. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Hudson and Tahattawan Lodge of Masons in Littleton.

A funeral will be held at 7 p.m. tomorrow in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Wood Square, Hudson. After cremation, burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Berlin Rescue Squad, care of Jan Bartlett, 115 Linden St., Berlin 01503, or the Assabet Valley Home Health Association, 201 Forest St., Marlboro 01752. Merrill-Carleton Funeral Home, 1 Pleasant St., Hudson, is directing arrangements.
