Frederick Watts Jr., 83

WESTBORO -- Frederick W. Watts Jr., 83, a resident of The Willows, a World War II veteran, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, Worcester.

He leaves his wife of 60 years, Ruth E. (Aseltine) Watts; a son, Frederick W. Watts III of Deltona, Fla.; two daughters, Mary E. Davies of Plymouth and Linda C. Watts of Malden; and six grandchildren. He was born in Fall River, son of Frederick W. and Ruth (Wight) Watts, and lived 40 years in Natick before moving to Westboro in 1990. He graduated from B.M.C. Durfee High School, Fall River, and from Bryant College in Smithfield, R.I. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Watts was a banker and accountant. He was a 32nd degree mason, and collected stamps.

The private graveside service will be held Monday, Aug. 14, in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Natick Visiting Nurse Association, 209 West Central St., Natick, MA 01760. Rand-Harper Westboro Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., is directing arrangements.

Robert J. Watts, 69; decorated Korean War veteran

WORCESTER -- Robert J. “Watsy” Watts, 69, of 65 Malden St. a decorated Korean War veteran and retired letter carrier, died Thursday, Aug. 10, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus, after an illness.

He leaves two daughters, Debra Boudreau-Scott of Dudley and Kathy Watts-Damato of Worcester; five grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; and a close family friend, Michael Finneran, with whom he lived. A brother, Richard J. Watts of West Boylston, died before him. He was born in Boston, son of James and Lillian (Johnson) Watts, and came to Worcester as a child. He graduated from Commerce High School. Mr. Watts was a corporal in the Korean War, serving in Japan in 1949 and then in Korea until 1952. He received the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars and the Bronze Star Medal for his actions in defending his company in an attack on Hwachon in Korea in 1952.

Mr. Watts was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years before retiring in 1999. He previously worked at the Coca-Cola Co. for 17 years. In 1966, he received a service award for his contribution to the postal service.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, in Arthur S. Manzi & Son Funeral Home & Garden Chapel, 179 Shrewsbury St. There is no funeral service. The family requests that flowers be omitted.

Gladys Werth, 93

WINDHAM, Conn. -- Gladys (Holley) Werth, 93, of 46 Tuckle Road, formerly of Webster, Mass., died Tuesday, Aug. 1, in Harrington Court, Colchester, after a long illness.

Her husband, Albert Werth, died many years ago. She leaves two sons, Donald and Robert Werth, both of Connecticut; five grandchildren. She was born in Webster, daughter of William and Freida (Bertram) Holley, and lived in Connecticut most of her life.

The graveside service, in Mount Zion Cemetery, Webster, will be private. There are no calling hours. Robert J. Miller Funeral Home, 366 School St., Webster, is directing arrangements.

Roger V. White, 84

Monday, August 7, 2000

GARDNER -- Roger V. White, 84, of 40 Bond St., a former silversmith, died Saturday, Aug. 5, in the Leo P. LaChance Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation after a lengthy illness.

He leaves his wife of 47 years, Ruth E. (Roundy) White; two sons, Ronald E. White of Gardner and Roger B. White of Baltimore, Md.; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. A sister, Pearl I. White, a grandson, and a great granddaughter, died before him. He was born in New York City, son of John F. and Margaret (Looney) White, and lived in Gardner for 75 years. He graduated from Gardner High School in 1936.

Mr. White worked at the former Brown and Lee, later known as L. W. Sawin Co., for 35 years, retiring in 1982. He previously worked for Albert Stone Silversmiths and for Frank Favor Industries. Several members of his family were silver artisans. Several pieces of the White family hand-forged silver art have been exhibited in historical collections.

He was an active member of Chestnut Street United Methodist Church, serving on various administrative boards and committees. He was a member, Past Noble Grand and Past Patriarch of the former Gardner Chapter, International Order of Odd Fellows Encampment, Rebeccas, and was a member of the local Diapiason Club.

He enjoyed fresh water and deep sea fishing, golf and traveling.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, in Chestnut Street United Methodist Church, 161 Chestnut St. Burial will be in Howard Cemetery, Sutton. Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, in Smith Funeral Home, 69 Vernon St. Donations may be made to Chestnut Street United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 161 Chestnut St., Gardner, MA 01440 or to the Patients Activities Fund, Leo P. LaChance Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, 59 Eastwood Circle, Gardner, MA 01440.

Florence E. White, 89

NORTHBRIDGE -- Florence E. (Rondeau) White, 89, formerly of Centennial Court, Uxbridge, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, in St. Camillus Health Center in Whitinsville after an illness. Funeral arrangements, under the direction of Tancrell-Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Road, Uxbridge, are incomplete.

Marie A. White, 50

HUDSON -- Marie A. (Bosma) White, 50, of 27 Old North Road, died Sunday, June 3, at home after an illness.

She leaves her husband of eight years, Marvin H. White; her mother, Theresa D. (Auger) Bosma of Manchaug; two sons, Joseph P. and Jamie R. LePage, both of Thompson; a daughter, Theresa M. LePage of Oxford; two brothers, George W. Bosma III of Uxbridge and Paul J. Bosma of Manchaug; two sisters, M. Jane Cassidy of Ashford, Conn. and Vivienne G. Beauvais of Lake Helen, Fla.; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was born in Whitinsville, daughter of George W. Bosma Jr., and lived several years in Douglas and five years in Hudson.

Mrs. White was a beautician and later assistant manager at K-Mart in Webster.She was a member of Ladies of Harley and the Massachusetts Retreads Motorcycle Club. She enjoyed bingo and collecting Elvis Presley memorabilia.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 8, in Merrill-Carleton Funeral Home, 1 Pleasant St. Burial will be in Forestvale Cemetery. Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 7, in the funeral home. Please omit flowers. Donations may be made to the Wayside Hospice/Parmenter Health Services, 266 Cochituate Road, Wayland, MA 01778.

Sean M. White, 17; victim of accident

SUTTON -- Sean M. White, 17, of 40 Colonial Road, died Tuesday, July 31, from injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident on Buttonwood Avenue.

He leaves his mother, Kathleen A. (Rydzy) White; two brothers, Michael N. and Jason M. White, both of Sutton; and his maternal grandmother, Helen (Chesluk) Rydzy of Windsor, Conn. His father, Barry J. White, died in 1992. He was born in Worcester. He was a senior at Sutton High School.

Mr. White worked part-time at Peking Garden, Wilkinsonville. He participated in the Sutton Police Department Citizens Patrol Program . He played soccer in Sutton leagues and hockey with the Bay State Sharks, Worcester.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Aug. 4, from Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mark's Church, 356 Boston Road. Burial will be in Howard Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sean M. White Scholarship Fund, c/o Millbury National Bank, 18 Main St., Millbury, MA 01527.

Francis W. White, 86

SUTTON -- Francis W. White, 86, of Sutton, a retired standards checker, died Monday, Aug. 7, in Worcester Medical Center, Worcester, after being stricken ill.

He leaves his wife, Isobel C. (Asocks) White; a son, Frederick White of Horseheads, N.Y.; two daughters, Karen L. LaPosta of Kensington, Conn., and Selina Fuller of Hartford; and five grandchildren. He was born in Worcester, son of Diendonne and Catherine (Noles) White, and lived 54 years in Sutton.

Mr. White was a standards checker at Corenco Co., Auburn, retiring in 1976.

The private funeral service will be held at the family's convenience. There are no calling hours. Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St., Millbury, is directing arrangements.

Emmett F. White, 80

WORCESTER -- Emmett F. White, 80, of 39 Knowles Road, a World War II veteran and retired telephone company worker, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus, after a short illness.

His wife of 50 years, Alice V. (Murphy) White, died in 1997. He leaves a son, Emmett F. White Jr. of Lake Forest, Ill.; a daughter, Suzanne E. Cooney of Shrewsbury; a brother, Richard White of Worcester; a sister, Elinor McNamara of Worcester; six grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Two brothers and a sister, Frederick and George White and Mary Murphy, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of George and Ellen (O'Brien) White, and graduated from South High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Signal Corps and participating in the D-Day invasion of Normandy.

Mr. White was a supervisor at New England Telephone Co., where he worked 42 years, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church and the Emerald Club. He was a former board director for the Telephone Workers Credit Union and a former vice president of the Bobby Doerr Little League, now James D. O'Brien Little League.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Oct. 21, from Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 341 June St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made the UMass Memorial Foundation, Hospice Program, 16 Shaffner St., Worcester, MA 01605; or to St. John's High School, 378 Main St., Shrewsbury, MA 01545.

Ralph V. White, 95

BOYLSTON -- Ralph V. White, 95, of 22A Brookside Ave., died Monday, Jan. 8, in Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center. Funeral arrangements, under the direction of Nordgren, Carrigan, Mangsen Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., Worcester, are incomplete.

Florence E. White, 89

NORTHBRIDGE -- Florence E. (Rondeau) White, 89, formerly of Linwood, a retired nurse's aide, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, at St. Camillus Health Care after an illness.

Her husband, Joseph A. White, died in 1956. She leaves a daughter, Sandra M. Woodcome of Whitinsville; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A son, Ronald J. White of Uxbridge, died in 1996, and a brother, Frank Rondeau, also predeceased her. She was born in Northbridge, daughter of Francois and Clarinda (Marchand) Rondeau.

Mrs. White worked at the former Romeo's Market, Linwood, and the former Stanley Woolen and Waucantuck Mills of Uxbridge. Before her retirement in 1975, she worked 17 years as a nurse's aide at St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester.

She was a member of Good Shepherd Church, Linwood, and Uxbridge Senior Citizens.

Her funeral will be held Monday, Feb. 5, from the Tancrell-Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Road, Uxbridge, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Good Shepherd Church, 121 Linwood St., Linwood. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Whitinsville. Calling hours are from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 4, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 33 Lyman St., Westboro, MA 01581 or to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Annie Willard, 90

ACTON -- Annie (Sedgwick) Willard, 90, formerly of 17 Notre Dame Road and formerly of Lancaster, died Thursday, Aug. 3, in Lebanon Center Genesis in Lebanon, N.H., after a long illness.

Her husband, Francis H. Willard Jr., died in 1995. She leaves a son, Francis H. Willard III of Kennebunk, Maine; a daughter, Mary Anne Levin of Lebanon, N.H.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Oldham, England, daughter of Charles H. and Mary (Kinson) Sedgwick, and lived in Nashua and Concord, N.H.; Portland, Maine; Lancaster, Mass.; and 35 years in Acton before moving to Lebanon five years ago. She graduated from a Nashua, N.H., high school.

Mrs. Willard was a seamstress, a gardener and an artist. She was a member of First Church of Christ Unitarian in Lancaster and of its Female Charitable Society.

The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, in Eastwood Cemetery, Lancaster. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to CARE, 3 West 35th St., Fifth Floor, New York, NY 10001. Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton, is directing arrangements.

Norman B. Witkes, 87

WORCESTER -- Norman B. Witkes, 87, of 3051 Hythe C, Boca Raton, Fla., died Saturday, Aug. 5, at his son's residence at 6 Raleigh Road.

He leaves his wife of 65 years, Ann (Fradkin) Witkes; three sons, Bernard Witkes of Worcester, Robert Witkes of Millbury and Michael Witkes of Engelwood, N.J.; 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was born in Poland, son of David and Eda (Yanovitz) Witkes, and had lived in Worcester for 51 years, before moving to Boca Raton 14 years ago. He was a Merchant Marine veteran, serving in World War II.

Mr. Witkes was a steelworker at Mass. Steel Treating Corp. for many years, retiring in 1985. He had previously been a taxi owner and operator for Arrow Cab Co. and was also a baker at Widoff's Bakery.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, at Perlman Funeral Home, 1026 Main St. Burial will be in Holy Society Cemetery, Leicester. Memorial observance will be held through Sunday morning, Aug. 13, at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Witkes, 6 Raleigh Road. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jewish Healthcare Center, 629 Salisbury St., Worcester, MA 01609.

Warren H. Wood Jr.

STERLING -- Warren H. Wood Jr., 86, of 19 Sholan Terrace, died Monday, July 23, in the Highlands of Fitchburg after an illness.

He leaves two brothers, William G. Wood of Sterling and Leonard E. Wood of Westminster; nieces and nephews. He was born in Worcester, son of Warren H. Wood Sr. and Mary F. (Wilke) Wood, and graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester.

Mr. Wood was a wire inspector for Suprenant Manufacturing in Clinton, and previously worked for Bullard Manufacturing in Westboro.

He was a member of Greendale Peoples Church in Worcester. He was a longtime member of the Sterling Grange, and received many awards and honors.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 26, in Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road. Burial will be in Eastwood Cemetery, Lancaster. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, in the funeral home.
