Carlo L. Pedone, 79

Monday, January 29, 2001

WORCESTER -- Carlo L. Pedone, 79, of 50 Shrewsbury St., a retired plumber and Army veteran of World War II, died Sunday, Jan. 28, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after an illness. He leaves a son, Nicholas C. Pedone of Mesa, Ariz.; a brother, Francis Pedone of Worcester; two sisters, Margaret Migliozzi of Gardner and Helen Thibeault of Southboro; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews, including Leo and Kathy (Gill) Pedone, who were his caregivers. A brother, Vincent “George” Pedone, and a sister, Rose Pedone, predeceased him. Born in Worcester, son of Nicola and Maria (DiGregorio) Pedone, he attended Worcester public schools.

Mr. Pedone worked nine years as a plumber for UMass Medical Center, retiring in 1983. Previously, he worked for J.J. Bafaro and Joseph Colona. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Ann Church, and the Men's Biscegliese Society.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, in Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pulmonary Care Unit of St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center, 20 Worcester Center Blvd., Worcester, MA 01608.

Ronald L. Phelps, 66

SACO, Maine -- Ronald L. Phelps, 66, of Beach Street, formerly of West Boylston, Mass., died Jan. 30 in Southern Maine Medical Center, Biddeford.

He leaves his wife of 11 years, Susan (McKracherne) Phelps; his mother, Grace (Parker) Phelps of West Boylston; two sons, Greg Phelps of Portland and Jeffrey Phelps of New York City; a brother, Bruce Phelps of West Boylston; a sister, Audrey Daigneau of West Boylston; a grandson. He was born in West Boylston, son of Stanley Phelps, and graduated from West Boylston High School and Clark University in Worcester, Mass. He was an Army veteran.

Mr. Phelps was a regional manager 20 years at American Optical Co. in Southbridge, and worked 11 years at Scholastic Book Fairs.

He was a member of the Masons, and was avid fisherman.

The memorial service was held Friday, Feb. 2, in Williston-West Church, 32 Thomas St., Portland. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 10 Bangor St., Suite F., Augusta, ME 04330.

Angelo A. Pellegrino, 76

WORCESTER -- Angelo A. Pellegrino, 76, of 66 Orient St., a retired upholsterer, died Sunday, Jan. 28, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 53 years, Regina L. (Romaszko) Pellegrino; a daughter, Lindalouise A. Lovett of Winthrop; five brothers, Albert J. Raymond J., and Robert Pellegrino, all of Worcester, and Anthony T. and Peter Pellegrino, both of Shrewsbury; two sisters, Eleanor Santoro of Shrewsbury and Dorothy Palermo of Worcester; a grandson; nephews and nieces. Two brothers and two sisters predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Pietro and Angelina (Vitteritto) Pellegrino.

Mr. Pellegrino was an upholsterer 60 years at Mechanics Upholstering Co. before retiring.

He held 4th degree black belt in karate, and was a member of Pope John XXIII Council Knights of Columbus and the Brown Square Civic Club.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, Jan. 31, from Arthur S. Manzi & Son Funeral Home and Garden Chapel, 179 Shrewsbury St., with a Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, in the funeral home.

Robert J. Perry, 57

Sunday, February 4, 2001

MILFORD -- Robert J. Perry, 57, of Milford, a finance manager and a former radio announcer for high school sports, died Friday, Feb. 2, at his home.

He leaves his wife of 31 years, Geraldine A. (Brogan) Perry; a son, Sean C. Perry of Milford; his mother, Jennie A. (Tagliaferri) Perry of Framingham; a brother, William Perry of Framingham; two sisters, Jo-Ann Donahue of Worcester and Deborah Tatreau of Ashland; and several nieces and nephews. He was born in Framingham, son of Robert S. Perry, and moved to Milford in 1969. He graduated from Framingham High School in 1961.

Mr. Perry was a finance manager at Southworth-Milton Corp. for 30 years. He was a former sports announcer on radio station WMRC for Milford High School football and basketball games. He was a member of the Columbus Society of Framingham.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, Feb. 6, from Consigli-Ruggerio Funeral Home, 46 Water St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's of the Assumption Church, Winter Street. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Medway Road. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, in the funeral home.

Pauline K. Petursson

Monday, January 29, 2001

WORCESTER -- Pauline K. (Eldridge) Petursson, 58, of 12 Scrimageour Road, died Friday, Jan. 26, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus after an illness.

Her husband, Ragnar F. Petursson, died in 1995. She leaves three sons, Paul S. Petursson and Ragnar F. Petursson III, both of Worcester, Michael J. Petursson of Tyngsboro; two daughters, Elizabeth K. Daneshmand and Tracy A. Petursson, both of Worcester; six grandchildren; two nieces. She was born in Kent, England, and moved to Worcester many years ago. He graduated from Assumption College.

She was a waitress 18 years at Eddy's Pub in Worcester.

Cremation will be at Rural Crematory. There are no calling hours. Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street is directing arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Erna A. Pfeifle, 83

WINCHENDON -- Erna A. (Schmidt) Pfeifle, 83, formerly of 252 Hale St., died Sunday, Jan. 28, in the Baldwinville Nursing Home, Baldwinville, after a long illness.

Her husband, Raymond G. Pfeifle, died in 1998. She leaves two sons, Raymond G. Pfeifle Jr. and Brian T. Pfeifle, both of Winchendon; a daughter, Joyce C. Hosnander of Winchendon; a brother, Karl Schmidt of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson. A daughter, Melanie J. Pfeifle of Winchendon, died in 1988. She was born in New York City, daughter of Karl and Anna (Rinke) Schmidt, and lived in New Jersey before moving to Winchendon in 1954.

Mrs. Pfeifle was a member of First Lutheran Church in Gardner and sang in its choir for many years. She was a member and past president of the Greater Gardner Association of Retarded Persons. Many years ago, she was a Girl Scout and Brownie troop leader.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, in the First Lutheran Church, 209 Lawrence St., Gardner. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, in the Fletcher-Hebert Funeral Home, 70 Pleasant St. Donations may be made to the Raymond G. Pfeifle Memorial Fund of Camp Calumet, Lake Road, Ossipee, NH 03864.

Elden C. Phelps, 69

ATHOL -- Elden C. “Clem” Phelps, 69, of 436 Vine St., an entrepreneur, died Saturday, Feb. 3, in Athol Memorial Hospital after being sticken ill at home.

He leaves his wife of 49 years, Barbara E. (Hickey) Phelps; two sons, Scott G. Phelps and Gary E. Phelps, both of Athol; a daughter, Linda E. Ellis of Phillipston; three sisters, Marcia Legassey of Athol, Beverly Woodard and Marilyn Kimball, both of Orange; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Born in Athol, son of Clemont and Helen (Cone) Phelps, he attended Athol schools and lived there all his life.

Mr. Phelps worked 30 years for the former Eastern Furniture and, for the past 11 years, he operated a courier service for local businesses.

For over 50 years, he was a member of the Athol-Orange Aero Club. He also enjoyed photography, history, fishing, and playing cards and cribbage.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, in Highland Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Athol-Orange Aero Club, PO Box 321, Athol, MA 01331. Higgins-O'Connor Funeral Home is directing arrangements.

ATHOL -- The funeral service for Elden C. “Clem” Phelps, 69, of 436 Vine St., will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, in Higgins-O'Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St. Mr. Phelps died Saturday, Feb. 3, in Athol Memorial Hospital after being stricken ill at home. Edwin E. Pike Sr., 81, retired Worcester firefighter

WORCESTER -- Edwin E. Pike Sr., 81, of 83 Westboro St., a World War II veteran and a retired firefighter, died Monday, Jan. 29, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after a brief illness.

He leaves his wife of 59 years, Edith A. (Guglielmello) Pike; three sons, Edwin E. Pike Jr. of Leicester, Dr. Ronald F. Pike of Shrewsbury and Jeffery A. Pike of Charlton; a daughter, Sandra M. Basso of Leonardtown, Md.; a sister, Margaret P. DiFilippo of Worcester; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A brother, George Pike, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Emil and Mary (Linfors) Pike, and graduated from Commerce High School. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Pike was a firefighter more than 32 years for the Worcester Fire Department, retiring as a lieutenant on Engine 1 Central division in 1982. He was assigned to Ladders 5 and 1, and as a lieutenant on Ladder 3 and Engine 1. He was also a machine setup man more than 35 years for R&A Machine Co.

He was a member of International Association of Firefighters Local 1009, Worcester Fireman's Relief Association, Massachusetts Retired Fire & Police Association, and Eastside Post 201 American Legion. He was a founding member of Jack Barry Little League.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, in Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, in the funeral home. Members of Eastside Post 201 American Legion will meet at 7 p.m. during the calling hours to conduct their ritual. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Worcester Fire Relief Association, 141 Grove St., Worcester, MA 01605; or to another charity.

Constance W. Potter

BOSTON -- Constance W. Potter of Boston, formerly of Worcester, died Sunday, Feb. 4, at home.

She leaves several cousins, including Isabel Carleton of Shrewsbury. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Paul and Elizabeth (Baker) Potter, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Smith College, Northampton, in 1922.

Ms. Potter was a draftsman for General Electric, Lynn. She was an active member of Trinity Church.

The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, in Trinity Church, Copley Square. There are no calling hours. J.S. Waterman & Sons Funeral Home, 495 Commonwealth Ave., is directing arrangements.

Avis M. Prentice, 74

CLINTON -- Avis M. (DeGreenia) Prentice, 74, of 55 West St., a retired Nypro Co. employee, died Friday, Jan. 26, in Clinton Hospital after being stricken ill at home.

Her husband, Walter Prentice, died in 1974. She leaves a son, Gordon W. Prentice of Clinton; a brother, Alton DeGreenia of South Lancaster; a sister, Ramona Nicholas of Rutland; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A sister, Arlene LaFleur, predeceased her. She was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., daughter of Pearley and Pauline (Healey) DeGreenia, and lived many years in Clinton. She graduated from Concord (N.H.) High School.

Mrs. Prentice was a lead person 15 years at Nypro Co., retiring in 1990. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, Jan. 30, from Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, in the funeral home.

Cordelia Provost, 88

WORCESTER -- Cordelia (Bricault) Provost, 88, 21 Seymour St., died Saturday, Jan. 27, in Sunbridge of Millbury Nursing Home after an illness.

Her husband, John B. Provost, died in 1972. She leaves two sons, Gene Provost of Alexandria, Minn., and Donald Provost of Worcester; a daughter, Claire Provost of Worcester; two sisters, Blanche Delisle and Doris Spustar, both of Worcester; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Manchester, N.H., daughter of Ernest and Lisa (Shaput) Bricault, and lived most of her life in Worcester.

Mrs. Provost was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, in Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Hammond St.

Elva M. Pulsifer, 82

VENICE, Fla. -- Elva M. Pulsifer, 82, of Venice, formerly of Worcester, Mass., died Friday, Jan. 26, in Venice.

She leaves her husband of 57 years, Warren S. Pulsifer; four daughters, Anne Bieda of Olivebridge, N.Y., Lynne Wichman of Shelburne, Mass., Christine Drayton of Pittsfield, Mass., and Janet Davis of Mount Grove, Mo.; a son, Glenn Pulsifer of New Paltz, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. She was born in Worcester, and lived in Rantoul, Ill. before moving to Worcester. She was a World War II veteran, serving as an Army nurse.

Mrs. Pulsifer was a homemaker, and enjoyed reading and cooking.

She was a member of Women in Military Service in America.

There are no funeral services planned. National Cremation Society, 256 South Nokomis Ave., is directing arrangements.
