Helen G. Tanner, 76

NORTHBRIDGE -- Helen G. (Cote) Tanner, 76, formerly of 63 School St., a retired housekeeper, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, in Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center after a long illness.

She leaves two daughters, Carol A. Vaudreuil of Northbridge and Jacklin M. Murch of Hopedale; two sons, Henry P. Tanner of Sandwich and Robert G. Tanner of Sutton; a brother, Andrew L. Cote of St. Cloud, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born and raised in Derby, Vt., daughter of Henry and Gertrude (Labounty) Cote, and lived in Worcester before spending many years in Manchaug. She moved to Northbridge and 1984.

Mrs. Tanner was a housekeeper 12 years at Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center, retiring in 1989.

She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Parish, and was a former member of St. Ann's Catholic Parish in Manchaug. She was also a member of the Northbridge Senior Center.

The funeral will be held Thursday, Feb. 1, from Turgeon Funeral Home, 80 School St., with a Mass at 12:30 p.m. in St. Patrick's Church, Cross and East streets, Whitinsville. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery. A calling hour will be from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, Feb. 1, in the funeral home.

Rosemarie Taylor, 46

CLINTON -- Rosemarie (O'Connor) Taylor, 46, of 19 Varnum St., Lowell, formerly of 629 High St., died Monday, Feb. 5, in Sunbridge Rehabilitation & Nursing Facility, Lowell, after a long illness.

She leaves a son, Jeremy J. Taylor of Worcester; a daughter, Amy M. Mosher of Clinton; her mother, Phyllis E. (Stevens) O'Connor; a brother, Francis J. O'Connor Jr. of Lunenburg; several nieces and nephews. She was born in Clinton, daughter of Francis J. (O'Connor), and moved to Lowell in 1998. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1972, and attended Worcester Girls Trade School of Cosmetology.

Mrs. Taylor was an assembler many years at Ray-O-Vac Co., and was later an inspector many years at Nypro Inc., retiring because of illness.

She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, and enjoyed sewing and crocheting.

The memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, in the Church of the Good Shepherd, 209 Union St. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Huntington's Disease Society of America, Mass. Chapter 8, 80 East Concord St., Boston, MA 02118. Robert J. McNally Funeral Home, 304 Church St., is directing arrangements.

Lydia A. Testa, 74

FITCHBURG -- Lydia A. Testa, 74, formerly of 21C Cheryl Drive, Leominster, a retired computer operator, died Monday, Feb. 5, in Mariner Health Care after an illness.

She leaves three brothers, Dominic and Ernest Testa, both of Leominster, and Armand Testa of Bedford; four sisters, Mary Tata, Janet Mallard and Gloria Blair, all of Leominster, and Rose Sambito of Florida; nephews and nieces. She was born in Fitchburg, daughter of Dominic and Julia (Brasilli) Testa.

Ms. Testa was a computer operator 25 years for Digital Computer Co., Marlboro, retiring in 1989. She was a member of St. Anna's Church, Leominster.

The funeral will be held Friday, Feb. 9, from M.A. Simard & Son Funeral Home, 14 Walker St., Leominster, with a Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Anna's Church, 194 Lancaster St., Leominster. Burial will be at the family's convenience. A calling period is 8 to 8:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anna's Church, 194 Lancaster St., Leominster, MA 01453; or may be left at the funeral home.

John E. Overlock, 71

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- John E. Overlock, 71, of Las Vegas and Kohala Ranch, Hawaii, formerly of Worcester, Mass., died Jan. 31 in University Medical Center.

He leaves his wife, Lucille Overlock; a son, Craig Overlock of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; two daughters, Kerry Bennett of Canoga Park, Calif. and Martha White of Rockville, Md.; five grandchildren. He was born in Worcester and graduated from Springfield College in Springfield, Mass.

Mr. Overlock was a founding member of the Church of the Nativity in Northboro, Mass., and was a past master of Isiah Thomas Lodge, also in Massachusetts. He was a member of several German-American organizations.

The funeral service is private. Desert Memorial Funeral Home, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is directing arrangements.

Albert F. Pearson, 70

LEOMINSTER -- The funeral for Albert F. Pearson, 70, of 102 Bel Air Heights, will be held Thursday, Feb. 8, from Wright-Roy Funeral Home, 109 West St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Cecilia Church, 180 Mechanic St.

Mr. Pearson died Monday, Feb. 5, in HealthAlliance Leominster Hospital.

Burial will be in St. Leo's Cemetery.

Steven H. Pollack, 74

NORTHBRIDGE -- Steven H. Pollack, 74, of 83 Heritage Drive, Whitinsville, died Thursday, Feb. 6, in Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital, Milford, after being stricken ill at home.

He leaves his wife of 31 years, Doris A. (Pelletier) Pollack; four brothers, Nicholas, Jack, and James Pollack, all of Eveleth, Minn., and Joseph Pollack of St. Cloud, Minn.; a sister, Kathleen Kloiber of Coon Rapids, Minn.; nephews and nieces. A brother, Thomas Pollack, and two sisters, Mary J. Jagunich and Matilda Pokorny, all predeceased him. Born in Eveleth, son of Steven and Catherine (Zalica) Pollack, he lived several years in Illinois. He moved to Millbury in 1988 and moved to Whitinsville in 1991. He graduated from Eveleth High School. He was a World War II Army Air Forces veteran, serving with the occupation forces in Japan.

Mr. Pollack was a railroad pipefitter 28 years for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad, retiring in 1988.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Whitinsville, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6869, North Riverside, Ill., and the Slovene National Benefit Society. He enjoyed traveling, and had amassed a substantial music library that included Croatian music.

The funeral will be held at 9:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, from Turgeon Funeral Home, 80 School St., with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, corner of Cross and East streets, Whitinsville. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, in the funeral home.

Bronislaw Shetrawski Sr.

GARDNER -- The funeral service for Bronislaw “Bennie” Shetrawski Sr., 81, of 189 Pleasant St., Westboro, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, in Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St. Mr. Shetrawski died Saturday, Feb. 3, in Westboro Nursing Home after an illness.

Burial will be at a later date in St. John's Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

Stanley J. Nurek, 85, Democratic Party activist

HARDWICK -- Stanley J. Nurek, 85, of 54 Mechanic St., Gilbertville, a Democratic Party activist, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, in Mary Lane Hospital, Ware, after a brief illness.

Mr. Nurek was a lifelong Democrat and served 46 years on the Massachusetts Democratic State Committee. He was first elected in 1956 and gained life membership in 1978. He was a supporter of President John F. Kennedy and Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass. He seconded Sen. Kennedy's nomination for U.S. Senate at the 1962 Democratic Convention in Springfield, the year Sen. Kennedy was first elected to the Senate. He attended his first Democratic State Convention in 1948 and attended several Democratic National Party conventions. He served as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in 1968. On his 80th birthday, he was honored with a testimonial dinner at the Salem Cross Inn, West Brookfield, where buttons were made declaring him as “Mr. Democrat.”

Mr. Nurek worked on the family farm in Gilbertville as a youth, and later on construction for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 98, Springfield, retiring in 1980. He also owned and operated the Vox Club, Gilbertville, for 20 years.

He was a former member of Hardwick Board of Selectmen, a member and past president of Joseph Pilsudski Club and Gilbertville Lions Club, and a member of American Legion Post 246, Gilbertville.

He leaves his wife of 64 years, Gladys (Ligawiec) Nurek; two daughters, Gail Boissy of Gilbertville and Phyllis Malin of New Braintree; a brother, Joseph Nurek of Chicopee; a sister, Mary Yaracz of Gilbertville; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A son, Richard J. Nurek, died in 1999. A brother, Bernard Nurek, died last year. He was born in Gilbertville, son of John and Caroline (Kupiec) Nurek. He was a World War II Army veteran.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 10, from Cebula Funeral Home, 66 South St., Ware, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Aloysius Church, 64 Church St., Gilbertville. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Gilbertville. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Hardwick Rescue Squad, PO Box 447, Gilbertville, MA 01031 or to St. Aloysius Church, 64 Church St., Gilbertville, MA 01031.

Rev. Peter O'Hara, 67

TOWNSEND -- The Rev. Peter O'Hara, 67, of 57 Tennyson St., Somerville, former pastor of St. John the Evangelist Church, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, at Jeanne Jugan Residence-Little Sisters of the Poor after a struggle with cancer.

He leaves three sisters, Patricia O'Hara of Somerville, Agnes Noonan of Fairfax, Va., and Delores O'Hara of Charlestown; many nieces and nephews. He was born in Somerville, son of Peter J. and Agnes (Cook) O'Hara.

He was ordained at Holy Cross Cathedral in Boston, and served at St. Joseph's Parish in Kingston, St. Rita's Parish in Lowell, the Boy's Guidance Center in Scituate, St. Rose Parish in Chelsea, Catholic Charities in Lowell, and Sacred Heart Parish in Bradford. From 1979 to 1997, Rev. O'Hara was pastor at St. John the Evangelist Church. He then worked with the archdiocese response team and Immaculate Conception Church in Weymouth.

The funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, in St. John the Evangelist Church, 1 School St. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours are 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, in T.J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 250 Main St. He will lie in state from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, in the church.

Donations may be made to the Jeanne Jugan Residence-Little Sisters of the Poor, 186 Highland Ave., Somerville, MA 02145 or the Father Peter J. O'Hara Scholarship Fund, St. John's Church, 1 School St., Townsend, MA 01469.

Marie B. Thompson, 76, retired telephone worker

WORCESTER -- Marie B. (Moysan) Thompson, 76, of 328 Greenwood St., a former telephone company worker, died Monday, Jan. 29, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after a long battle with emphysema and arthritis.

She leaves her husband of 48 years, Vite S. Thompson; a son, James D. Thompson of Rutland; a daughter, Marie A. Latino of Lee; two granddaughters; nephews and nieces. A brother, Leo Moysan, and two sisters, Alice Cleary and Dorothy Knipe, predeceased her. She was born in Providence, daughter of Leo and Alice G. (Carroll) Moysan, and graduated from Commerce High School.

Mrs. Thompson worked 21 years for New England Telephone and Mountain Bell of Colorado. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers Club. She enjoyed reading and gardening.

Mrs. Thompson donated her body to University of Massachusetts Medical School. The memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, March 4, in St. Paul's Cathedral, 28 High St. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity. Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., is directing arrangements.

Ruth M. Thompson, 59

FITCHBURG -- Ruth M. (Sawyer) Thompson, 59, of 54 Wallace Ave., died Jan. 28 at home after an illness.

She leaves two sons, Francis Thompson Sr. of Lunenburg and John Thompson of Worcester; two daughters, Tara Thompson and Theresa Houde, both of Worcester; four brothers, Ernest Sawyer of Fitchburg, Richard Sawyer of Westminster, Randi Sawyer of Lunenburg and Raymond Sawyer of Worcester; four sisters, Pearl Alliy of Florida, Eva Gilbert of Worcester, June Fontaine of Shrewsbury and Kathy White of Leominster; 18 grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Winchendon, daughter of Ernest Sawyer Sr. and Ethel (Bruno) Sawyer, and lived several years in Fitchburg.

Mrs. Thompson was formerly a shoe worker.

The funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, in Graham, Putnam & Mahoney Funeral Parlors, 838 Main St., Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, in the funeral home.

Pauline I. Tuttle, 73

LANCASTER -- Pauline I. (Stevens) Tuttle, 73, of 18 Maple St., Pepperell, and formerly of 325 White Pond Road, a former Ray-O-Vac employee, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, in Clinton Hospital after an illness.

Her husband of 50 years, Norman H. Tuttle, died in 1997. She leaves two sons, Creag M. Tuttle of Leominster and Richard A. Tuttle of Lancaster; a daughter, Cynthia I. Keith of Leominster; a brother, Norman Laverdiere of Clinton; a sister, Phyllis O'Connor of Clinton; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A daughter, Betty Ann Tuttle, died in 1955, and a grandson died in 1989. Born in Worcester, daughter of Edmond and Edith (Ogilvie) Laverdiere, she attended David Prouty High School, Spencer. She lived many years in Lancaster before moving to Pepperell in 1997.

Mrs. Tuttle worked several years at Ray-O-Vac Co., formerly of Clinton.

She was a member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Clinton, and the Pepperell Senior Citizens. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and traveling.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 30, in the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 209 Union St., Clinton. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton. Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday, Jan. 29, at the Robert J. McNally Funeral Home, 304 Church St., Clinton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 209 Union St., Clinton, MA 01510.
