LUNENBURG -- Linda E. (Crain) St. John, 50, of 556 Flat Hill Road, an executive secretary, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus, Worcester, after a short illness.
She leaves her husband of 31 years, Phillip R. St. John; her parents, Jack and Kate Crain of Leominster; three brothers, John Crain of Townsend, Chris Crain of Florida and Steve Crain of Leominster; a sister, Cathy Crain of California; nephews and nieces. She was born in Biddeford, Maine, and lived in Lunenburg since 1970. She graduated from Leominster High School.
Mrs. St. John was an executive secretary at Compaq Computer Co., Stow. She previously worked for Digital Corp.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, Jan. 31, from the Lunenburg Chapel of Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 763 Massachusetts Ave., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Boniface Church, 817 Massachusetts Ave. Burial will be private. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity.
Paul H. Stockwell, 56

MILLBURY -- Paul H. Stockwell, 56, of 1 Grafton St., died Friday, Feb. 2, in Rhode Island Hospital.
He leaves a son, Michael A. Miller of Framingham; a stepson, Micah Strode of Providence; two daughters, Rachel and Laura A. Stockwell, both of Rhode Island; a brother, Stephen A. Murray of Michigan; three sisters, Linda Lamontagne, and Carol Hill, both of Worcester, and Bernice McNeaney of Millbury; nieces and nephews. He was born in Tewksbury, son of Ruth A. (Shadburn) Stockwell, and lived several years in Millbury. He attended Boston University.
Mr. Stockwell was a cab driver in Boston.
The memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, in the New Life Ministries, 6 Greenwood St., Worcester. Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, in Graham, Putnam, Mahoney Funeral Parlor, 838 Main St., Worcester.

Charles W. Styler, 83

SEBASTOPOL, Calif. -- Charles W. Styler, 83, of Sebastopol, formerly of the Gilbertville section of Hardwick, Mass., a World War II veteran and a former judge, died Sunday, Jan. 14, in Sebastopol after a short illness.
He leaves his wife, Evelyn Styler; two sons, Gordon Styler of Sacramento and Bill Styler of Buckley, Wash.; two brothers, Al Styler of Brookfield, Mass., and Felix Styler of Salem, Ore.; two sisters, Catherine Bociek of Pawtucket, R.I., and Julie Daniels of Boynton Beach, Fla.; two grandsons; nephews and nieces. He was born and raised in Gilbertville, and moved to Davis in 1946 and to Sebastopol in 1975. and graduated from University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1941. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, attaining the rank of captain.
Mr. Styler was appointed to Davis Justice Court in 1948 and was elected judge in 1950. He served until 1970. He also owned a children's clothing store and worked for the Department of Motor Vehicles. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star. He was active in church and the community, and enjoyed golf.
The graveside service was held in Pleasant Pleasant Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary. The memorial service will be held in Sebastopol.
Bernice M. Suchodolski

WORCESTER -- Bernice M. Suchodolski, 84, of Worcester, a longtime teacher who once taught in a one-room schoolhouse, died Friday, Feb. 2, at home, after a long illness.
She leaves a sister, Pauline C. Wolkonowicz of Worcester; a brother, Henry E. Suchodolski of Shrewsbury; nephews and nieces. Two brothers, Stanley and Edward Suchodolski, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Charles and Pelagia (Anuszkiewicz) Suchodolski, and summered in Dennis Port. She earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Worcester State Teachers College.
Before retiring many years ago, Miss Suchodolski taught in a one-room rural schoolhouse in West Brookfield, at a grammar school in Middletown, Conn., and for the Worcester public school system, including at Abbott Street and Midland Street schools. She was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, where she was past president of the Woman's Guild and sang in the St. Cecilia Choir. Miss Suchodolski was honored for 50 years of service to the church choir, and also sang with the Worcester Festival Chorus for many years. She enjoyed crafts and playing the piano.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, Feb. 6, from Henry Funeral Home, 33 Ward St., with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, in the funeral home.

PROVIDENCE -- Gertrude C. (Moore) Sullivan, 85, of Robin Hood Drive, Riverside section of East Providence, formerly of Worcester, Mass., a retired registered nurse, died Saturday, Jan. 27, in Rhode Island Hospital.
Her husband, James Sullivan, predeceased her. She leaves a daughter, Catherine B. Nelson Allen of Riverside; three grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. Three brothers and four sisters predeceased her. She was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of Michael F. and Bridget (Houlihan) Moore, and lived 43 years in Riverside. She graduated from St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing, Worcester, in 1935.
Mrs. Sullivan was a registered nurse and was a visiting nurse 10 years in Worcester, retiring in 1945. She was a member of St. Brendan Church and a past president of the Ascension High School Alumni Association, Worcester. She enjoyed crafting and needlework.
The funeral will be held at 9:15 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, from W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, 350 Willett Ave., Riverside, with a concelebrated Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Brendan Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, in the funeral home.

WORCESTER -- Francis J. Sullivan, 66, of 25 Michigan Road, formerly of 19 Ascadilla Road, a retired English teacher, died Thursday, Jan. 25, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 41 years, Ann E. (Murray) Sullivan; two sons, John and Joseph Sullivan, both of Worcester; three daughters, Ann Schofield of Ellicott City, Md., Kathleen Warnken and Maureen Jarvis, both of Worcester; a brother; two sisters; and nine grandchildren. He was born in Worcester, son of John P. and Catherine M. (O'Day) Sullivan. He graduated from St. Stephen's High School and Worcester State College, from which he also received a master's degree. He served in the Navy Reserves.
Mr. Sullivan taught English for 27 years in middle and high schools in the Framingham public schools, retiring in 1993. Previously, he taught in West Brookfield and Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School, Upton. He was a swimming instructor at the Ionic Avenue Boys Club.
He was a member of St. Stephen's Parish, Grafton Hillers Club, Massachusetts Teachers Association, and the Worcester Democratic City Committee.
The funeral will be held Monday, Jan. 29, from Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. HOLYOKE -- Sister Helen Teresa Sullivan, 98, formerly known as Mary G. Sullivan, a resident of Mont Marie Health Care Center, formerly of Worcester, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, in the health care center.
She leaves grandnephews and grandnieces. She was born in Holyoke, daughter of Dennis and Delia (Hogan) Sullivan, and moved to Mont Marie Health Care Center in 1992. She graduated from Rosary High School in 1922 and earned a bachelor's degree from College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield from Holy Rosary Parish and was in her 78th year of religious life.
She taught at Immaculate Conception in Easthampton, St. Ann in Worcester, and St. Joseph in North Adams, retiring in 1985. She was a trained pianist and produced and played for shows at the schools she served.
The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, in Mont Marie Chapel, Lower Westfield Road. Burial will be in Mont Marie Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, in Mont Marie. WARE -- Marion A. (Green) Sweeney, 76, of 113 Greenwich Road, a retired sales clerk, died Thursday, Feb. 1, in Baystate Medical Center, Springfield.
Her husband, Paul Sweeney, died in 1997. She leaves a brother, Raymond Green of Ware; two sisters, Olive Mathews of Ware and Charlotte Sanderson of Barre; several nieces and nephews. Born in North Brookfield, daughter of Ralph and Harriet (Boothby) Green, she lived for a time in Spencer before moving to Ware.
Mrs. Sweeney was a sales clerk at the former Cohen's Fashion Shop in Ware, retiring several years ago.
She was a member of All Saints Church.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, in All Saints Church, 17 North Street. Burial will be in New St. William Cemetery. HARDWICK -- Joseph M. Szczupak, 87, of 196 Main St., Gilbertville, a former weaver and World War II veteran, died Thursday, Feb. 1, at Life Care Center, Wilbraham.
He leaves two sisters, Mary Sullivan of Ware and Stasia Szczupak of Gilbertville; several nephews and nieces; great-nephews and great-nieces; great-great-nephews and great-great-nieces. He was born in Gilbertville, son of Martin and Josephine (Witowski) Szczupak. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Szczupak was a weaver for 35 years at the former Ware Woolen Co., retiring in 1978.
He was a member of St. Aloysius Church, Gilbertville, and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Gilbertville Post 9093.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 3, from the Cebula Funeral Home, 66 South St., Ware, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Aloysius Church, 64 Church St., Gilbertville. NORTHBORO -- Betty J. (Peinze) Taft, 75, of 31 West St., a retired office manager, died Thursday, Feb. 1, in Marlboro Hospital, Marlboro, after an illness.
Her husband, Albert G. Taft, died in 1982. She leaves two sons, Richard C. Taft of Miami and Robert L. Taft of Shrewsbury; and three grandsons. She was born in Marlboro, daughter of Herman L. and Anna (Miller) Peinze. She graduated from Northboro High School in 1942.
Mrs. Taft worked for 31 years at the Northboro National Bank. She then was an office manager at Oxford Academy and, most recently, at Thornton Nursing Home, retiring in 1997. She was a member of Trinity Church.

WORCESTER -- Mary F. (Carroll) Taft, 65, of 155 Hamilton St., died Saturday, Feb. 3, at home after a long illness.
Her husband, Richard E. Taft, died in 1994. She leaves a son, James M. Taft of Cazenovia, N.Y.; a daughter, Sheila C. Mackie of Norton; three brothers, John Carroll of Madison, Conn., George Carroll of Santa Clarita, Calif., and Roger Carroll of Worcester; four granddaughters. A daughter, Theresa F. Taft, died in 1984. She was born in Manhattan, N.Y., daughter of George and Mollie (Lynch) Carroll, and lived many years in Grafton and 10 years in Worcester. She graduated from St. Peter's High School. She was a Marine Corps veteran.
Mrs. Taft was a billing clerk 15 years at the Boston Road Clinic, and also worked 10 years the Picadilly Pub in Westboro.
