Catherine C. Flynn, 70

Osterville - Catherine Clarke (Church) Flynn, 70, of Osterville, a former secretary/treasurer of the U.S. Partitions Co. in Walpole, died on May 21, 1998 at Cape Cod Hospital .

She was the wife of James J. Flynn of Osterville.

Formerly of Medfield and Lincoln, R.I., Mrs. Flynn grew up in Lincoln and graduated from Catherine Gibbs School in Boston in 1948.

She retired in 1991 from her job at U.S. Partitions. She had formerly worked for the United Chamber of Commerce in Woonsocket, R.I. She was past president of the Hannah Adams Womens Club in Medfield and past president of the Newcomers Club in Pittsfield.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Flynn is survived by a daughter, Priscilla A. Flynn of Franklin, and a son, Peter J. Flynn of Quincy; a sister, Priscilla Rockwell of Barrington, R.I.; and one granddaughter. She was pre-deceased by a daughter, Amy Ramirez-Flynn.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on May 26 at the Church of the Advent Episcopal, Medfield.

Lawrence W. Lyons, Jr., 84

Barnstable - Lawrence W. Lyons Jr., 84, former 1st assistant clerk of Quincy Court, died on May 18, 1998 at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston after a brief illness.

He was the husband of the late Edith (Mackay) Lyons.

Mr. Lyons was born in Quincy and lived there as a youth. He also lived for many years in Braintree and Weymouth before moving permanently to Barnstable in 1977, where he had summered many years before.

He graduated from Quincy High School and Thayer Academy before attending Harvard University, where he graduated in 1937. He served in the Navy during World War II aboard the aircraft carrier USS Essex in the Pacific. After the war, he graduated from Boston University Night School and from its school of law in 1949.

Mr. Lyons was appointed 3rd assistant clerk of the Quincy District Court, later becoming 1st assistant clerk of that court. He retired in 1977.

A member of the Massachusetts Bar, he was also a member of the Cape Cod Chapter of the Harvard Club and past president of the Quincy Chapter of the Harvard Club. He belonged to the Quincy Lions Club and the Dennis Thomas Post No. 2578, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hyannis.

He was a former Barnstable Town Meeting member and was active in local elections and town government committees. He enjoyed power boating and flower gardening.

Surviving are a son, Lawrence W. Lyons III of Westboro; a daughter, Janet Brooks of South Weymouth; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on May 22 at St. Francis Xavier Church, Hyannis. Burial was at 12:45 p.m. in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Memorial donations may be made to Granite State Independent Living Foundation, P.O. Box 7268, Concord, NH 03301-7268.

Nora B. Maxwell, 85

Boynton Beach, Fla. - Nora B. Maxwell, 85, formerly of Hyannis, died on May 18, 1998 in Florida.

She was the wife of Robert Maxwell, who died in 1994.

Born in Boston, Mrs. Maxwell lived in Hyde Park and graduated from Gate of Heaven High School in Boston. She lived in Hyannis for many years before moving to Boynton Beach.

She worked for the U.S. Defense Department in Boston for more than 20 years until her retirement.

Surviving are two sons, William S. Maxwell of Boynton Beach and R. Bradley Maxwell of Kingston, N.H.; a brother, Bud Bradley of Staten Island, N.Y.; a sister, Ann McIntosh of Columbia, S.C.; and four grandchildren.

A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. on May 22 in Boynton Beach Municipal Cemetery.

Leif M. K. Mikalson, 91

Fairhaven - Leif M. K. Mikalson, 91, who leaves a son in Centerville, died on May 18, 1998 at the Nichols House in Fairhaven after a long illness.

He was the husband of the late Anna H. "Helen" (Hoines) Mikalson.

Born in Great Falls, Mont., he was raised in Norway. He returned to the United States to Brooklyn, N.Y., and then to New Bedford. He moved to Fairhaven in 1942.

Mr. Mikalson was the engineer and owner of the Dagne, King Fisher and Eunice Lillian fishing vessels for many years. He also built the fishing vessel Leslie M in 1941, but before he was able to use it, it was taken over by the United States government for use during World War II.

He was a founding member and former church trustee of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairhaven and a member and former president of the Seafood Producers Association.

Active in Masonic affairs, he was a member of the George H. Tabor Lodge AF & AM as well as a member of the Shriners.

Surviving are a son, Leslie H. Mikalson of Centerville; a sister, Judith Endresen of Savannah, Ga.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on May 21 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairhaven.

Justin F. O'Leary, 75

Vero Beach, Fla. - Justin F. O'Leary, 75, formerly of Hyannis where he was manager of New England Telephone's office, died at home on May 21, 1998.

He was the husband of Myrtle S. (Stott) O'Leary.

Mr. O'Leary was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserves. He was a life member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Co. of Massachusetts and VFW Post 3918 in Vero Beach.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two brothers, the Rev. Adrian F. O'Leary of Roslindale, Mass., and Dr. James M. O'Leary of Arlington, Mass.

The funeral formed at 9:15 a.m. on May 27 at the P.E. Murray Funeral Home, West Roxbury, followed at 10 a.m. by Mass in Holy Name Church, West Roxbury. Burial was at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

Roy Stobbart Jr., 61

Prescott, Ariz. - Roy Stobbart Jr., 61, a Hyannis native, died on May 19, 1998 at his home in Prescott, Ariz., after a long illness.

He was the husband of Pamela (Hemenway) Stobbart.

Mr. Stobbart was born in Hyannis and raised on Cape Cod.

During the Korean War he served in the Army.

In 1970 he married and in 1976 he moved to Chino Valley, Ariz., and then to Prescott.

He was a salesman at Foxworth Galbraith for nine years.

He enjoyed playing guitar and singing, country and western music, bowling, golf, watching football, eating lobster, walking along the seashore and driving his all-terrain vehicle.

Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Sharon Blake of Melbourne, Ark.; two sons, Billy Stobbart of Olympia, Wash., and Gary Stobbart of West Yarmouth; four step-sons, Geoff Moore of Clarksville, Tenn., Jon Moore of Prescott, Stephen Moore of Melbourne, Ark., and Chris Moore of Florence, Ariz.; a sister, Kathleene Small of Merchantsville, Va.; a brother, John Stobbart of El Paso, Texas ; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service was at 2 p.m. on May 26 at the Arizona Pioneer Home, Prescott.

Christopher A. Sullivan, 31

Hyannis - Christopher A. Sullivan, 31, died on May 22, 1998 in a car accident in Bourne.

He was the son of Dr. Albert L. Sullivan of Cohasset and Marjorie J. (Nichols) Sullivan of Hingham.

Mr. Sullivan was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and raised in Hingham, where he was a graduate of Hingham High School. He moved to Hyannis three years ago.

He was known for his love of the outdoors, particularly boating and fishing.

Besides his parents, he is survived by a son, Joshua Farwell of Hingham; a brother, Peter A. Sullivan of Hingham; a sister, Denise M. Brown of North Andover; a grandfather, Leo P. Sullivan of Cohasset; and a friend, Wendy Trezise of Hyannis.

Services and burial were private. Memorial donations may be made to the Joshua Farwell Educational Fund, c/o the Hingham Institution for Savings, 55 Main St., Hingham, MA 02043.

Laurens F. Bruno, 83

Atlantis, Fla. - Laurens F. Bruno, CLU, CHFC, 83, of Atlantis and Cotuit, died May 22, 1998.

He was the husband of Evelyn (Campbell) Bruno.

Born in Hasbrouck Heights, N.J., he lived in Wellesley Hills, Mass., until moving to Atlantis in 1974. He was employed by the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States from 1934 until his retirement in 1978.

He was past president of the Boston Life Underwriters and the General Agents & Managers Association.

Mr. Bruno was a member of the Oyster Harbors Golf Club, the New England Seniors Golf Association and past president and member of the Atlantis Golf Club. He was also a member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church, West Palm Beach.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, Kenneth Bruno of Dover, Del.; and a daughter, Carol Mitchell of Fairfax, Va.

Funeral services were held on May 31 in Lakeworth, Fla.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5 Harvard Circle, Suite 110, West Palm Beach, FL 33490.

John F. Daly, 72

North Chelmsford - John F. Daly, 72, a summer resident of Centerville, died unexpectedly on May 28, 1998 at the Glenns Falls Hospital in Glenns Falls, N.Y.

Mr. Daly was born in Boston and had lived in Medford and Lynn before moving to North Chelmsford 12 years ago. He had summered in Centerville for many years.

He was a veteran of the Navy having served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

Prior to his retirement this year he had been employed at Assurance Technology Corp.

He is survived by a daughter, Ann Marie Daly Colon of Lynn; a son, Thomas J. Daly of Malden; several grandchildren; and his companion, Shirley Reardon of North Chelmsford.

A funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. on June 1 at St. Mary's Church in Chelmsford.

Burial was in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
