WORCESTER -- The funeral service for Onnie J. “Jack” Hakala, 82, of 61 Boyd St., who died Wednesday, Feb. 7, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, in Caswell-King Funeral Home, 474 Grove St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, in the funeral home. He was born in Worcester, son of John and Mary (Okerman) Hakala, and was a former member of United Congregational Church.

Mary L. Benaglia, 62

SEABROOK, N.H. -- Mary L. (Hester) Benaglia, 62, of Seabrook, formerly of Worcester, Mass., a registered nurse, died Friday, Feb. 23, at home after a year-long battle with cancer.

She leaves her husband of 40 years, Joseph Benaglia; a son, Joseph Benaglia of Grafton, Mass.; three daughters, Catherine Adair of Portsmouth, Linda Harrington of Holden, Mass., and Patricia Duhamel of Plaistow; two adopted daughters, Ann Emmons of Virginia and Meg Cloud of Maine; a brother, James Hester of Worcester; seven grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Worcester, daughter of James and Vivian (Wainionpaa) Hester, and lived in Worcester before moving to Seabrook 10 years ago.

Mrs. Benaglia was a registered nurse most of her life, including at Memorial Hospital in Worcester, Worcester County Jail, and Concord (Mass.) Prison.

The funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, in St. Mary's Church, 17 Waterville St., North Grafton, Mass. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sea Coast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833; or to New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NHSPCA), Portsmouth Avenue, Stratham, NH 03885. William R. Short and Son Funeral Home, 95 West Main St., Marlboro, Mass., is directing arrangements.

Christopher R. Boone, 34, Bancroft School official

WORCESTER -- Christopher R. Boone, 34, of Fiske Street, a Bancroft School administrator, died Friday, Feb. 16, in Rhode Island Hospital, Providence.

He leaves his wife, Jane Merritt; a son, Theodore S. Boone of Worcester; a daughter, Isabelle J. Boone of Worcester; his parents, Samuel and Patricia (Hurley) Smith of Barrington, R.I.; two brothers, R. Thomas Boone of Attleboro and Brian Boone of Rome, Ga. He was born in South Bend, Ind., and lived in Barrington before moving to Worcester five years ago. He graduated from Barrington High School in 1984, where he was a standout football player, and received a degree in governmental relations and romance languages from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. He received a master's degree in educational administration from Harvard University in 1993.

Mr. Boone was head of the middle school at Bancroft School. He was previously eighth grade dean at the Abington Friends School in Abington, Pa. He also taught at the American International School in Cyprus and Lawrence Academy in Groton.

He was a sports enthusiast, and had coached football at the Hyde School in Bath, Maine and at Lawrence Academy. He coached lacrosse at the Abington Friends School and at Bancroft.

The memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, in the Manning Chapel of Brown University in Providence, and at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, at Bancroft School, Shore Drive. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boone Family Fund, c/o Richard & Diane Merritt, 502 Dyckman St., Peekskill, NY 10566. Monahan Kelly Drabble Sherman Funeral Home, 230 Waterman St., Providence, is directing arrangements.

Joseph E. Boulette, 39

NORTHBRIDGE -- Joseph E. Boulette, 39, of 39 Taft St., a retired cook, died Friday, Feb. 23, in Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital, Milford, after being stricken ill.

He leaves his wife, Trudy (Lavallee) Boulette; a son, Joseph E. Boulette II at home; a daughter, Jessica Boulette at home; his mother, Geraldine (Guard) Boulette of Upton; three brothers, Arthur A. Boulette of Lorton, Va., Alfred F. Boulette of Delray Beach, Fla., and John R. Boulette of Chantilly, Va.; a sister, Michelle Aglio of Chantilly, Va.; nephews and nieces. Born in Northbridge, son of Alfred Boulette, he attended Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School, Upton.

Mr. Boulette worked 15 years as a cook at Harry's Famous Pizza, Whitinsville, retiring in 1996 because of illness.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Whitinsville. He enjoyed collecting baseball cards.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, Feb. 27, from Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill St., Whitinsville, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, Cross Street. Burial will be in Howard Cemetery, Armsby Road, Sutton. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 26, at the funeral home. Please omit flowers.

Helene L. Brown, 66

HUDSON -- Helene L. (MacCulloch) Brown, 66, of Hudson, died Friday, Feb. 23, in Olympus Rehabilitation Hospital, Natick.

Her husband, Ronald E. Brown, died in 1996. She leaves a daughter, Deborah Melewski of Hudson; a son, Jeffery Brown of Northboro; her mother, Helen (MacDonald) MacCulloch of Acton; a brother, Clifford MacCulloch of Maynard; three sisters, Blanche Guislin of Calistoga, Calif., Shirley Dimery of Maynard and Betty Torkelson of Westford; and six grandchildren. A daughter, Saundra Stanechewski, died in 1979. A grandson died in 1990. She was born in Nova Scotia, daughter of James A. MacCulloch.

Mrs. Brown was a member of First Federated Church.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, in First Federated Church, 200 Central St. Burial will be in Forestvale Cemetery. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, in Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St.

Raymond T. Chaput, 83

SHREWSBURY -- Raymond T. Chaput, 83, of 16 Nelson Point Road, a World War II veteran and a retired business owner, died Monday, Feb. 19, in Veterans Administration Medical Center, Brockton, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 61 years, Annette (Ledoux) Chaput; three daughters, Carol Contis of Holden, Mary Anne Forgues of Petersham and Rosemary Chaput, with whom he lived; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of Simon and Camille (Durocher) Chaput, and lived most of his life in Boylston and Shrewsbury. He attended Worcester public schools. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific.

Mr. Chaput owned Ray's Building, Wrecking and Excavation Co., retiring in 1987. He was also a self-employed contractor throughout the area.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, in Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to V.A. Medical Center, 940 Belmont St., Brockton, MA 02401.

Stella A. Dziedzic, 86

WEBSTER -- Stella A. (Jaworski) Dziedzic, 86, of 29 West Ave., died at home Friday, Feb. 23, after being stricken ill.

Her husband of 36 years, Joseph W. “Red” Dziedzic, died in 1977. She leaves a son, James J. Dziedzic of Webster; two daughters, Janice M. Jose of Shrewsbury and Nancy C. Tabor of Millbury; eight grandchildren; four great-grandsons; nephews and nieces. Three brothers, Stephen, Nicholas and George Jaworski, and three sisters, Sophie Gasiorek, Michalene Donway and B. Vera Jaworski, predeceased her. She was born and raised in Danielson, Conn., daughter of Andrew and Mary (Bzdula) Jaworski, and moved to Webster 60 years ago. She graduated from Killingly, Conn., High School in 1932.

Mrs. Dziedzic was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Basilica and its Holy Rosary Sodality.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, Feb. 27, from Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb St. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. A calling period is 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Basilica Handicapped Ramp Fund, 53 Whitcomb St., Webster, MA 01570; or to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Stephen Gelineau, 46

UPTON -- Stephen H. Gelineau, 46, of 18 Florence Circle, a professional golfer, died Friday, Feb. 23, in Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital, Milford, after a brief illness.

He leaves his wife of 10 years, Nancy C. (Adams) Gelineau; two daughters, Rebecca and Rachel Gelineau, both at home; his mother, Blanche R. (Surette) Gelineau of Plainville; two brothers, Alan and James Gelineau, both of Wrentham; and a sister, Gail Urko of Wrentham. Born in Norwood, son of Rene W. Gelineau, he graduated in 1973 from King Philip High School, Wrentham. He attended Bryant College in Rhode Island and schools sponsored by the Professional Golfers Association.

Mr. Gelineau was a golf professional at Saddle Hill Country Club in Hopkinton for the past ten years. He was also associated with the Clearview Golf Course in Worcester and had previously worked at the Framingham Country Club and Pine Brook Country Club in Weston. He belonged to the Professional Golfers Association. He was a member of the Upton Men's Club, serving as chair of its auction committee for the upcoming fund-raising event. He was a member of Holy Angels Parish. He enjoyed fishing.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, Feb. 27, from the Williams-Pedersen Funeral Home, 45 Main St. with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church, Milford Street. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gelineau Children's College Fund, c/o UniBank for Savings, Box 1203, Upton, MA 01568.

George C. Grover, 58

BELLINGHAM -- George C. Grover, 58, of 139 North Main St., a truck driver, died Monday, Feb. 26, in Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital, Milford.

He leaves his wife of 35 years, Aline (Thiboutot) Grover; a son, David M. Grover of Bellingham; two daughters, Kathleen A. Grover-Mattar of Bridgewater and Diane M. Grover of Woonsocket, R.I.; his mother, Marion (D'Astous) Grover of Bellingham; a sister, Linda Grover-Daley of Bellingham; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was born in Holyoke, son of Clifford Grover, and lived in Hopedale and Milford before moving to Bellingham in 1991.

Mr. Grover was a truck driver 24 years for Tresca Brothers Sand and Gravel Co. in Millis.

He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Milford.

The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, March 2, from Consigli-Ruggerio Funeral Home, 46 Water St., Milford, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Winter Street, Milford. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Milford. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 1, in the funeral home.

John J. Jankowski, 83

SOUTHBRIDGE -- John J. Jankowski, 83, of 102 Lebanon Hill Road, a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, died Monday, Feb. 19, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, Worcester.

He leaves his wife of 61 years, Irene (Darzenkiewicz) Jankowski; a daughter, Jane R. Pearson of Clarendon, Pa.; three sisters, Marion Bombara of East Douglas, Cecelia Majka and Winifred LaFountain, both of Dudley; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; nieces and nephews. A daughter, Carol J. Lapierre, died in 1985. He was born in Dudley, son of John and Michalina (Nezuh) Jankowski. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Mr. Jankowski worked 25 years at American Optical Corp., retiring in 1979.

He was past commander of Leonide J. Lemire Post Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Polish-American Veterans. He was a member of St. Hedwig's Parish and the American Optical Quarter Century Club.

The funeral will be held Friday, Feb. 23, from Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Hedwig's Church, Everett Street. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, in the funeral home.

Linwood C. Kalel, 58

NORTHBRIDGE -- Linwood C. Kalel, 58, of 2 Maple St., Whitinsville, died Monday, Feb. 26, in Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital after being stricken ill at home.

He leaves his wife, Mary (Lovell) Kalel; a son, David C. Kalel of Tualatin, Ore.; two daughters, Tamera Patterson of Newberg, Ore. and Ashley L. Kalel, with whom he lived; several brothers and sisters in Maine; two grandchildren. He was born in Bangor, Maine, son of Thomas and Margaret (Stubbs) Kalel, and his foster parents, Leslie and Priscilla (Champeon) Robinson. He grew up in Monson, Maine, and moved to Whitinsville in 1986. He graduated from Monson Academy in 1962.

He was a final inspection supervisor 36 years at Guilford Industries, most recently in East Douglas.

He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Whitinsville.

The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 1, in Trinity Episcopal Church, Linwood Avenue, Whitinsville. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northbridge Association of Churches Food Pantry, PO Box 60, Whitinsville, MA 01588 or the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. Ernest Lamarche Jr., 44

WORCESTER -- Ernest F. Lamarche Jr. 44, of 31 Crowningshield Road, died Sunday, Feb. 18, at home.

His wife of 15 years, Sherry (Colby) Lamarche, died in 1997. He leaves a son, Ernest F. Lamarche III of Worcester; a daughter, Laura Lee Lamarche of Worcester; his mother, Joan M. (Carroll) Lamarche of Worcester; a stepdaughter, Janelle Bell of Lynn; two brothers, Thomas J. and Robert J. Lamarche, both of Worcester; two sisters, Diane J. Leader of Worcester and Joann Brady of Waltham; and three grandchildren. He was born in Worcester, son of Ernest F. Lamarche Sr.

Mr. Lamarche was a self-employed carpenter operating E.F.L. Property Maintenance for the past year. He was previously employed by the Small Business Service Bureau. He was a member of several computer clubs. He was an avid fisherman.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, Feb. 21, from the O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Ave., with a Mass at noon in St. John's Church, 40 Temple St. Burial will be private. Calling hours are 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Food for the Poor or to St. John's Church Restoration Fund, both at 44 Temple St., Worcester, MA. 01604.

Kenneth L. Larson, 77

Sunday, February 25, 2001

LEICESTER -- Kenneth L. Larson, 77, of 317 River St., a World War II veteran and retired foreman, died Thursday, Feb. 22, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after an illness.

His wife, Jennie (Guarente) Larson, died in 1999. He leaves a son, Barry K. Symonds of Lode, England; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A son, Kenneth P. Larson, died in 1999. A brother, James Augustuf, died in 1999; another brother, Arthur H. Larson Sr., died in 1992; and another brother, Herbert Larson, also predeceased him. He was born in Leicester, son of Oscar H. and Eliza J. (Hewy) Larson, and lived several years in Revere and most of his life in Leicester. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Larson was a foreman 46 years for New England Power, Worcester, retiring in 1988. He enjoyed visiting the Leicester Senior Center.

No funeral service is planned. After cremation, burial will be at the family's convenience. There are no calling hours. Please omit flowers. Donations may be made to St. Anthony Church Restoration Fund, 250 Revere St., Revere, MA 02151. Morrison-Morin Funeral Home, 1131 Main St., is directing arrangements.
