TOPSHAM, Maine -- The Rev. John P. Ashey II, 76, of The Highland's, formerly of Worcester, Mass., died Friday, July 27, in Mere Point Nursing Home, Brunswick.
His wife, Kathleen (McBratney) Ashey, died in 1994. He leaves two sons, Mark Ashey of Newtown, Conn., and the Rev. Philip Ashey of McKeesport, Pa. ; a sister, Joan Whiting of Worcester; and seven grandchildren. He was born in Worcester, son of Harold C. L. and Marguerite (Robinson) Ashey, and lived in California before moving to Maine in 1996. He graduated from Bowdoin College, Brunswick, in 1949, where he was a member of Alpha Delta Phi fraternity, and from Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Mass. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with dual commission in the Navy as a lieutenant and an engineer in the Merchant Marine.
Rev. Ashey served California churches as a curate, vicar, rector and priest in charge, retiring in 1989. He then was a volunteer chaplain at The Highland's, interim pastor at St. Matthew's Church, Lisbon Falls, and supply pastor at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Brunswick. He was a hospice volunteer in Southern California and Maine and a warden for order of St. Luke, a healing ministry.
The memorial service will be held at 1 p. m. Tuesday, July 31, in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 27 Pleasant St., Brunswick. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to John P. SPENCER -- Beverly Anne (Lavoie) Belair, 62, of 7a Roberta Bay, died Saturday, July 28, in Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital, Worcester, after an illness.
She leaves her husband of 40 years, Rodney A. Belair; two sons, Roy M. Belair of Auburn and Wayne F. Belair of Shawnee, Okla. ; two daughters, Cheryl A. Branham of Spencer and Doreen M. Thompson of New Braintree; two brothers, Leon Lavoie of Springfield and Raymond Lavoie of Worcester; three sisters, Pauline Ellis of Leominster, Marsha Pottie and Janet Viver, both of Spencer; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A son, Kevin A. Belair predeceased her. She was born in Leominster, daughter of Leon and Gladys (Robinson) Lavoie and lived in Spencer since 1977. She graduated from St. Bernard's High School.
Mrs. Belair was a home health aid for Catholic Charities for eight years, retiring last year. She was a member of the Women's Auxillary Post 138 in Spencer and did various charity work for the American Red Cross.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a. m. Thursday, Aug. 2, in St. Mary's Church, 60 Maple St. After cremation, burial will be private. There are no calling hours. Please omit flowers. J. Henri Morin & Son Funeral Home, 23 Maple Terrace, is directing arrangements.

NORTHBRIDGE -- Eric J. Bonczek, 26, of 49 Rose Ave., formerly of Auburn, died Saturday, July 28, in Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital, after an illness.
He leaves a son, Sean Keyth Bonczek of Worcester; his parents, John J. and Maureen A. (Sweeney) Bonczek of Northbridge; a brother, Mark J. Bonczek of Vernon, Conn. ; his maternal grandmother, Mildred I. (Fournier) Sweeney of Kissimmee, Fla. ; and his paternal grandparents, Frank J. and Jane V. (Lewon) Bonczek of Worcester. He was born in Worcester and graduated from Bay Path Vocational Tech in 1994, specializing in carpentry.
Mr. Bonczek worked for many years as a carpenter for J. J. Bonczek Building & Remodeling and last worked as a machine operator for Worcester Envelope Company in Auburn. He was a former member of Our Lady of the Angels Church and served there many years as an altar boy. Mr. Bonczek was an avid skier and enjoyed four wheeling, his car, and music.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, Aug. 1, from O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Ave., with a Mass at 11 a. m. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main St, Worcester. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p. m. Tuesday, July 31, in the funeral home. WORCESTER -- Margaret-Mary C. (Cedar) Bray, 54, of 36 Kingsbury St., a retired hairdresser, died Tuesday, July 31, at home after an illness.
Her husband, Merton C. Bray, predeceased her. She leaves a son, Michael E. Kabachenski III of Worcester; and a daughter, Caroline A. Kabachenski of Worcester; two brothers, Raymond Cedar of Philadelphia and Richard Cedar of Texas; three sisters, Dorothy Busha and Phyllis McErlain, both of Philadelphia, and Joan Ferrigano of New Jersey; nieces and nephews. A brother, Norman Farrington of Texas, died in 1996. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Richard and Mary (Farrington) Cedar, and graduated from David Hale Fanning Trade High School.
Mrs. Bray was a hairdresser and beautician for various beauty salons before retiring because of illness 15 years ago.

WORCESTER -- Joseph P. Breen, 71, of 99 Epworth St., died Saturday, July 28, in Providence House Nursing Home of Millbury.
He leaves a sister, Mary T. Breen, with whom he lived; several nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of Michael and Bridget (Griffin) Breen.
Mr. Breen was a cook for the Jesuit priests at the College of the Holy Cross for 32 years before retiring.

WATERFORD, Conn. -- Rose M. (Capuano) Brunelle, 73, of 4 Oak Road, formerly of Worcester, Mass., died Monday, July 30, at home.
She leaves her husband, Herve J. Brunelle; two sons, Kevin Brunelle of Waterford and Dennis Brunelle of East Lyme; a daughter, Elaine Hulse of Waterford; two brothers, Anthony and James Capuano, both of Worcester; three sisters, Constance Capuano, Nancy Williamson, and Katherine Fanion, all of Worcester; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. A brother, Joseph Capuano, and a grandson, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Giuseppe and Teresa (Tritone) Capuano.
Mrs. Brunelle was assistant manager at the former Genungs/Steinbach store before retiring. She recently worked for Macy's in Waterford.
She was a member of St. Paul in Chains Church and the Waterford Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.
The funeral will be held at 9:15 a. m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, from Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London, with a Mass at 10 a. m. in St. Paul in Chains Church, Rope Ferry Road. CHARLTON -- Charlotte V. (Whitcomb) Burlingame, 84, of 94 Colburn Road, died Sunday, July 29, in Massachusetts General Hospital after a long illness.
Her husband of 50 years, Homer Burlingame, died in 1984. She leaves four sons, Roy A. Burlingame of Charlton, with whom she lived, Elliott, Nelson, and Kenyon Burlingame, all of Charlton; four daughters, Jean Coureville of Charlton, Hazel Szlosek and Ruth Farrows, both of Southbridge, and Ruby Hannah of Webster; a brother, Harry Stone of Oxford; 40 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was born in Oxford, daughter of Elmer and Viola (Wright) Whitcomb, and lived 68 years in Charlton.
Mrs. Burlingame worked many years at Providence House Nursing Home in Southbridge, retiring in 1982.
She was a member of Charlton Bible Fellowship Church.

WORCESTER -- William R. Cosenza Sr., 83, of 14 Turin Road, a World War II veteran and a retired truck driver, died Saturday, July 28, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 30 years, M. Diane (Schunmann) Cosenza; four sons, William R. Cosenza Jr. of Sutton, Richard F. Cosenza of Worcester, Gregory J. Cosenza of Webster and Gary P. Cosenza of Grafton; three brothers, Joseph J. and Raymond J. “Jim” Cosenza, both of Worcester, and Albert J. Cosenza of Florida; three sisters, Yolanda T. Boucher of Worcester and Florida, Helen E. Browne of Florida and Mary C. Brewer of Grafton and Florida; 14 grandchildren; a great-grandson; nephews and nieces. His first wife, Jeannette V. (Kuszewski) Cosenza, died in 1969. A brother, Natale A. Cosenza, and a sister, Genevieve Stravos, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Peter A. and Christine M. (Fuscaldo) Cosenza. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Cosenza was a truck driver for Loyal Lining Co. for 28 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of Our Lady of Our Lady of Loreto Church, Pope John Knights of Columbus 5481, Teamsters Union Local 179, and East Side American Legion Post 201.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, July 31, from Louis Fazio & Sons Funeral Home, 9 Branch St., with a Mass at 9:30 a. m. in Our Lady of Loreto Church, 33 Massasoit Road. Burial will be in Central Cemetery, Millbury. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p. m. Monday, July 30, in the funeral home. FITCHBURG -- Nancy H. (Peontak) Desmond, 68, of 677 Rindge Road, died Sunday, July 29, at home after an illness.
She leaves her husband of 47 years, Harold F. Desmond Jr. ; two daughters, Patricia D. Whitney and Judith L. Desmond, both of Fitchburg; a brother, Carl R. Peontak of Fitchburg; and a grandson. She was born in Fitchburg, daughter of Carl N. and Helen M. (Curley) Peontak. She graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1950 and Fitchburg State College in 1954.
Mrs. Desmond was a elementary school teacher in Springfield, Ashby, Lunenburg and taught ten years in El Paso, Texas. She was a member of the Rollstone Congregation Church and the Lunenburg Teachers Association. She was a volunteer for Court Appointed Special Advocate.
The burial will be private. A gathering of family and friends will be held 2 to 6 p. m. Friday, Aug. 3, at 677 Rindge Road. Please omit flowers.
