Aldo L. Corbino, 80
LEOMINSTER -- Aldo L. Corbino, 80, of 53 Pierce St., a retired maintenance supervisor, former nursery operator, and veteran of World War II, died Sunday, July 22, at home.

His wife of 59 years, Lillian (Proietti) Corbino, died July 4. He leaves his daughter, Lona A. Babin of Fitchburg; three sisters, Ines Boucher, Dea Romano, and Alma Palladino, all of Leominster; two grandchildren. A brother, Henry Corbino of Florida, and two sisters, Pearl Pasciarelli and Elly Corbino, predeceased him. He was born in Leominster, son of Vincenzo and Olimpia (Pagnotta) Corbino.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in Asia and the Pacific.

Along with his wife, Mr. Corbino founded Kings Corner Day Nursery, and operated it for many years. He worked at N. Romano Construction Co., and worked in sales at Fitchburg Hardware.

He was also supervisor of the maintenance department at the former Foster Grant Co. in Leominster for many years, retiring in 1983.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Parish, and the Leominster Knights of Columbus. He was an officer of the Leominster Sons of Italy.

A funeral will be held Thursday, July 26, from Brandon-Simard Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Lake Church, 1400 Main St. Burial will be in St. Leo's Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, in the funeral home.

Nicholas J. Costa, 70, professor, author
SOUTHBRIDGE -- Nicholas J. Costa, 70, of 176 Torrington St., Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Southbridge, an educator and author with expertise on the Balkans, died Wednesday, July 25, at home after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 48 years, Amelia (George) Costa; a son, Keith N. Costa of Madison, Conn. ; a daughter, Amy L. Zilbar of Seffner; two brothers, Harry J. Costa of Woodstock, Conn., and James V. Costa of Webster; six grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Southbridge, son of James V. and Pandora (Marku) Costa, and lived in Southbridge and 35 years in Manchester, Conn., before moving to Port Charlotte in 1992. He earned a bachelor's degree from American International College in Springfield, Mass., a master's degree from Boston University, and did advanced studies at University of Connecticut. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving as a corpsman.

Mr. Costa was a history professor, teaching at Greater Hartford (Conn. ) Community College, retiring as professor emeritus in 1992. Previously, he taught at Manchester (Conn. ) Community College and at Mary E. Wells High School, Southbridge.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, American Association of University Professors, American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies, and American Academy of Political Science. He was a Balkan expert, authoring articles on Albania, Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union. He also authored two books, “Albania, a European Enigma” and “Shattered Illusions. ”

The funeral will be held Monday, July 30, from Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, with a service at 11 a.m. in St. Nicholas Albanian Orthodox Church, Morris Street, Southbridge. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Southbridge. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 29, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016; or to St. Nicholas Albanian Orthodox Church, PO Box 650, Southbridge, MA 01550.

SPENCER -- Catherine M. (Shackett) Courville, 38, of 30 Elm St., died Thursday, Aug. 2, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus, Worcester, after a brief illness.

She leaves her husband, Louis Courville; four sons, Wayne Shackett and Carl Stafford, both of Caribou, Maine, Michael Shackett of Worcester and Nicholas Stafford of Largo, Fla. ; two brothers, Roland and Leon Shackett, both of Worcester; five sisters, Gerri Nelson of Leicester, Christine Robertson of Reno, Nev., Bernadette Lewis and Colleen Kotowsky, both of Worcester, and Shirley Szklarz of North Brookfield; a stepsister, Amy Kauffman of Framingham; nephews and nieces. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Roland and Barbara (Oliver) Shackett.

She enjoyed the outdoors, camping and fishing.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, in Pillsbury Funeral Home, 163 Main St. Burial will be at the family's convenience. A calling hour is 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, in the funeral home.

WARE -- Aime J. Couturier, 83, of 62 West Warren Road, a retired carpenter, died Saturday, July 21, in Mary Lane Hospital.

His wife of 55 years, Madeline (Marchessault) Couturier, died in 1999. He leaves a son, Joseph Couturier of Chicopee; a daughter, Rosemary Charron of Ware; five brothers, Archille, Leo and Rosaire Couturier, all of Whitefield, N. H., Edward Couturier of Burlington, Vt., and Orian Couturier of Warren; four sisters, Albina Ingerson of Whitefield, Archeline Herbert of Littleton, N. H., Bella Mooney of Lancaster, N. H., and Gloria Power of North Stratford, N. H. ; and three grandchildren. He was born in Beecher Falls, Vt., son of Archille and Rosa (Dube) Couturier, and lived briefly in Warren before moving 55 years ago to Ware.

Mr. Couturier was a retired carpenter for Diamond Cascades Co., Palmer.

He was a member of All Saints Church and the Spencer Rod and Gun Club.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, in the Charbonneau Funeral Home, 30 Pleasant St. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 23, in the funeral home.

MILFORD -- Carol E. (Henry) D'Alessandro, 47, of 27 Mount Pleasant St., an underwriter, died Monday, July 23, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, Worcester.

She leaves her husband of 17 years, William M. D'Alessandro Sr. ; a stepson, William D'Alessandro Jr. of Blackstone; two stepdaughters, Lori Cunningham of Bellingham and Donna Lombard of Uxbridge; her parents, Thomas and Susan (Mitchell) Henry of East Dennis; a sister, Lisa Henry of Hyannis; five grandchildren; a nephew. She was born in Wellesley, and lived in Holliston before moving to Milford in 1992. She graduated from Dover Sherborn High School in 1971.

Mrs. D'Alessandro was an underwriter for Sun Life of Canada Life Insurance Co., and previously worked for Waters Associates.

She was a member of the Cross Roads Club House in Hopedale and Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.

The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, July 27, from Consigli-Ruggerio Funeral Home, 46 Water St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 5 East Main St. Cremation will be in Rural Cemetery in Worcester. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 26, in the funeral home. Elliette R. Dalve, 69
WARREN -- Elliette R. (Tremblay) Dalve, 69, of Main Street, died Sunday, July 22, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus after being stricken ill at home.

She leaves her husband of 47 years, Vincent J. Dalve; two sons, John Dalve of Worcester and Mark Dalve of Warren; three daughters, Christina Hoit of Carson City, Nev., Kathleen Savary of West Brookfield; Renee Dalve of Warren; two brothers, Marcel Tremblay and Rosaire Tremblay, both of Canada; a sister, Jisele Mongeon of West Warren; 11 grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Canada, daughter of Emile and Yvonne (Bregeron) Tremblay, and lived in Warren for many years.

Mrs. Dalve worked at the Quabaug Nursing Home, West Brookfield, for ten years, before retiring. She was a member of St. Paul's Church, its Women's Club and the parish prayer group. She enjoyed crafts, cross stitching and bird watching.

A funeral will be held from the Doherty Funeral Home, 40 Bacon St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 26 in St. Paul's Church, Main St. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, in the funeral home.

ROME, Italy -- Mario D'Amato, 75, of Rome, died Tuesday, July 24, at his home, after he was stricken ill.

He leaves his wife of 56 years, Maria (Vino) D'Amato; a son, Edoardo D'Amato of Rome; a sister, Egle Novia of Worcester, Mass. ; a granddaughter; nephews and nieces. A sister, Rose Corey of Westboro, Mass., died in 1985. He was born in Rome.

Mr. D'Amato worked for the government before retiring.

The funeral will be held in Rome. O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Ave., Worcester, is directing local arrangements.

AUBURN -- Jeffrey M. DeFrino, 16, of 10 Carriage Drive, died Friday, Aug. 3, in Children's Hospital, Boston, after a two-year struggle with pulmonary hypertension.

He leaves his parents, Anthony M. and Gail A. (Trani) DeFrino of Auburn; two sisters, Carrie Ann Woodcock of East Waterboro, Maine, and Beth Ann DeFrino of Auburn; his paternal grandfather, Rocco DeFrino of Old Lyme, Conn. ; and his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Rosemary (DiSabato) Trani of Lexington. He was born in Worcester, and lived all his life in Auburn.

Jeffrey worked part-time at Webster Five Cent Savings Bank.

He had recently completed his junior year at Auburn High School, and was a member of the National Honor Society, the golf team and the math team. He was a finalist for two years at the Auburn High School Science Fair. He enjoyed music and art, and some of his work was displayed at the high school.

He was a member of North American Martyrs Church and was active in its youth ministry.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, Aug. 7, from Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., with a Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 189 Oxford St. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jeffrey M. DeFrino Scholarship Fund, c/o Webster Five Cents Savings Bank, 400 Southbridge St., Auburn, MA 01501.

WORCESTER -- Raymond DelValle Jr., 45, of 60 Country Club Blvd., a retired corrections officer, died Monday, July 23, in the Hospice Residence after a long battle with cancer.

He leaves his wife of 26 years, Josephine (Santos) DelValle; four sons, Raymond DelValle III, Joseph, Jason L. and Christopher DelValle, all of Worcester; his mother, Lydia (Munos) DelValle of New York; four brothers, Anthony DelValle, Dennis Melendez, Ralph and Carmello Ortiz, all of New York; nephews and nieces. He was born in New York, son of Raymond DelValle Sr., and lived in the Worcester area since 1984. He graduated from a Worcester high school and attended Worcester State College. He served eight years in the Marine Corps in Camp Lejeune, N. C.

Mr. DelValle was a corrections officer for 10 years in Concord and Shirley, retiring in 1996. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Church and coached in the Worcester Youth Soccer League and Tris Speaker Little League.

The funeral will be held Friday, July 27, from Nordgren, Carrigan, Mangsen Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., with a Mass at 10 a. m in St. Joan of Arc Church, 570 Lincoln St. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, and Thursday, July 26, in the funeral home.

YARMOUTH -- Bernice M. (Degon) Desavage, 78, of 17 Archie Road, West Yarmouth, formerly of 4 Dorrance St., Worcester, a retired office clerk, died Sunday, July 22, in the Hermitage Nursing Home, 383 Mill St., Worcester.

She leaves her husband of 55 years, John J. Desavage; two daughters, Linda M. Masterson of Worcester and Joyce Turco of Sarasota, Fla. ; nine grandchildren; many nephews and nieces. Two brothers, George and Roland Degon, and a sister, Madeleine Walsh, predeceased her. She was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of George and Alma (Bazinet) Degon, and moved to West Yarmouth 11 years ago. She graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester.

Mrs. Desavage was an office clerk many years for Marane Oil Co. in Worcester, retiring in 1980. She previously worked many years for Wesby Bookbinding Co. in Worcester.

Mrs. Desavage was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Worcester.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, July 24, from Dirsa-Kazlauskas Funeral Home, 51 Providence St., Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 600 Cambridge St., Worcester. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 23, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Felix Masterson Scholarship, Worcester State College Development Office, 486 Chandler St., Worcester, MA 01602.
