CALLAHAN, Fla. -- Roger L. “Frenchy” Desjardin, 71, of Callahan, formerly of Northbridge, Mass., died Saturday, July 14, in Jacksonville after a long illness.

He leaves his wife, Lois B. Desjardin; a daughter, Teresa Floyd of Hilliard; six stepdaughters, Pamela Welk and Patty Winsett, both of Pennsylvania, Cheryl Northern, Lisa Ising and Jill Reeves, all of Hilliard, Vicki Pettingill of North Carolina; a stepson, David Knowles of Jacksonville; two sisters, Lucille Barber of the Whitinsville section of Northbridge and Eilene Busque of Connecticut; two brothers, Richard and Donald Desjardin, both of Whitinsville; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Northbridge and was a Navy veteran of World War II.

The memorial service was held in Callahan Funeral Home, 5505 Brandies Ave.

Armand L. Flamand, 73

NORTH BROOKFIELD -- Armand L. Flamand, 73, of 31 Prospect St., a retired plumber, died Friday, Aug. 3, at home.

He leaves his longtime companion, Joanne Madrazo; a son, James A. Flamand of North Brookfield; a sister, Aldona LaFlamme of Ware; six grandchildren. His wife, Marjorie (Spink) Flamand, died in 1984. A son, Raymond Flamand, died in 1996. A brother, Paul Flamand, died while serving in the Korean War. He was born in Gilbertville, son of Armand E. and Anna (LaVallee) Flamand.

Mr. Flamand was a plumber for Joseph Blanchet Co. Inc. in Southbridge, and was a plumbing inspector for North Brookfield Plumbing and Inspection.

He was an avid fisherman, and played basketball for Harts Cafe.

The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Brookfield Emergency Squad, PO Box 73, North Brookfield, MA 01535 or a charity. Pillsbury Funeral Home, 44 Gilbert St., is directing arrangements.

Elizabeth J. Foglia, 83

ATHOL -- Elizabeth J. (Burden) Bean Foglia, 83, formerly of 209 Goddard St., died Friday, Aug. 3, in Quabbin Valley Healthcare.

Her husband, Vilario Foglia, died in 1986. She leaves three sons, John G. Bean Jr. of Athol, Edward A. Bean of Fitzwilliam, N. H., and Donald W. Bean of Centerville, Tenn. ; a brother, Robert Burden of West Chicago; three sisters, Arlene Grant of Lindenville, Vt., Marion Goodell of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Catherine Southworth of Fairlee, Vt. ; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nephews and nieces. Her first husband, John G. Bean, died in 1957. A daughter, Betty Radzius, died in 1999. She was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., daughter of Douglas and Isabel (Foster) Burden, and lived 46 years in Athol.

She was a former member of Athol Congregational Church.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, in Silver Lake Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity. Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main St., is directing arrangements.

Donald W. Frye, 63

HOLDEN -- Donald W. Frye, 63, of 37 Woodhaven Road, a retired project manager, died Thursday, Aug. 2, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus, Worcester, after a long illness.

He leaves his wife of 38 years, Joan C. (Pruneau) Fry; two sons, Donald W. Frye Jr. of Ayer, and Jeffrey P. Frye of Hackettown, N. J. ; two grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of William and Linnea (Schonborg) Frye. He graduated from Wachusett Regional High School. He served in the Air National Guard.

Mr. Frye was a project manage at Jamesbury Corporation for 40 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Holden's JC's and was an avid bowler. He was also a member of Chaffin's Men's Club.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, in Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 1 West Boylston St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Department of Oncology Research at UMass Memorial Medical Center, 55 Lake Ave No., Worcester, MA 01655.

Evelyn Galinski, 82

DUDLEY -- Evelyn (Tellier) Galinski, 82, of 36 Prospect Ave., a retired stitcher, died Friday, July 27, in the Hospice Residence, Worcester, after a brief illness.

Her husband of 54 years, Edward Galinski, died in 1995. She leaves a daughter, Joyce Sledzik of Dudley; two sisters, Jeannette Tellier of the North Grosvenordale section of Thompson and Doris Robillard of the Wilsonville section of Thompson; three grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Two sisters, Theresa Vaillant and Anita Cournoyer, both of Connecticut, predeceased her. She was born in Burlington, Vt., daughter of Adolphe and Marie R. (Dubeau) Tellier, and was raised in North Grosvenordale. She lived 60 years in Dudley.

Mrs. Galinski was a stitcher at Putnam Manufacturing Co., retiring in 1984. She previously worked for Anglo Fabrics Co., Webster, and Heywood Schuster Co., Douglas. She was a member of St. Andrew Bobola Church.

A funeral will be held Monday, July 30, from Bartel Funeral Home & Chapel, 33 Schofield Ave., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Andrew Bobola Church, 54 West Main St. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Webster. A calling hour is 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 30, in the funeral home. Flowers may be sent, or memorial donations made to VNA Care Hospice Inc., 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608.

Nancy J. Gannett, 66

HOPEDALE -- Nancy J. (Miner) Gannett, 66, of Hopedale, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, at home.

Her husband, John D. Gannett, died in 1977. She leaves a son, Timothy S. Norling of Hopedale; a daughter, Deborah N. Dixson of Wayland; a sister, Barbara Williamson of Abbeville, S. C. ; three grandchildren; two nieces and a nephew. She was born in Springfield, daughter of Frank C. and Bernice (Ruland) Miner, and moved to Hopedale in 1947, spending summers in Harwich Port. She graduated from Hopedale High School, where she participated in sports, in 1953 and attended Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vt.

Mrs. Gannett worked for Draper Corp. and then at Hopedale town offices, retiring in 1976. She was active with Hopedale Unitarian Parish, where she sang in the choir and served on committees. She enjoyed gardening and swimming.

The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, in Hopedale Unitarian Parish, 65 Hopedale St. Burial will be private in Hopedale Village Cemetery. There are no public calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Angell Memorial Animal Hospital, 350 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02116; or to Hopedale High School Alumni Association, 364A South Main St., Hopedale, MA 01747. Buma-Sargeant Funeral Home, 42 Congress St., Milford, is directing arrangements.

WORCESTER -- Leah Y. (Bouchard) Gearin, 66, of 35 Walter St., died Thursday, July 26, at home, after an illness.

Her husband, Daniel G. Gearin, died in 1978. She leaves a son, Shawn M. Gearin of Mattapoisett; three daughters, Colleen Boulette of Paxton, Catherine Phelan of Whitinsville, and Kelly Gearin of East Boston; three brothers, Henry Bouchard of Riverside, Calif., Paul Bouchard of Baker, Ore., and Eugene Bouchard of Leicester; a sister, Claire DiCesare of Holden; nine grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Ware, daughter of Ulric J. and Leah Y. (Fontaine) Bouchard and lived in Worcester many years.

Mrs. Gearin worked in the customer service department for New England Telephone Company for many years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of Christ the King Church. She was a volunteer at Pleasant Valley Country Club. She was an avid gardener.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 30 in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 29, O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P. O. Box 31160, Hartford, CT 06150-1160.

MARLBORO -- Lucia (Cofelice) Gentile, 91, of Marlboro, a former restaurateur, died Monday, July 23, in Sunbridge Nursing Home, Milford, after a short illness.

Her husband, Francesco Gentile, died in 1995. She leaves many nieces and nephews, including Mary N. Tollo of Weymouth, Joseph Cofelice of Marlboro, John DeVincentis of Harwichport, and John M. Onorato of Wrentham; many grandnieces and grandnephews. She was born in Marlboro, daughter of Guisseppi and Maria (Levittina) Cofelice.

Mrs. Gentile owned and operated Lucia's Restaurant on South Street for many years, and built a new restaurant on Lakeside Avenue in 1964, which was later sold to the Oxford Restaurant in 1971. She was previously a business agent for the Shoeworkers Union.

She was named Woman of the Year by “Who's Who of American Women” in 1967.

The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 26, from William R. Short and Son Funeral Home, 95 West Main St., with a Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Ann's Church, 466 Lincoln St. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, in the funeral home. Donations may be made to St. Ann's Church, 466 Lincoln St., Marlboro, MA 01752.

Clementine Gerani, 83

NORTHBRIDGE -- Clementine (Petronella) Gerani, 83, of 85 Beaumont Drive, a former bookkeeper, died Tuesday, July 24, in Beaumont Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after an illness.

Her husband, Anthony P. Gerani, died in 1991. She leaves a son, Paul Gerani of Sutton; a daughter, Palma Gerani of Ossining, N. Y. ; four brothers, Anthony Petronella of Westbury, Long Island, N. Y., Frank Petronella of Yonkers, N. Y., and Oray and Armand Petronella, both of Spring Hill, Fla. ; a sister, Mary Agovino of New City, N. Y. ; two grandchildren; a great-grandson; several nephews and nieces. She was born in Terni, Italy, daughter of Paul and Palma (Carrissimo) Petronella, and lived in Ossining before moving to Northbridge.

Mrs. Gerani was a bookkeeper in a dental lab in New York. She enjoyed gardening and was a skilled seamstress.

The funeral will be held Thursday, July 26, from Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St., Douglas, with a Mass at noon in St. Anne's Church, 29 Main St., Manchaug. Cremation will be in Rural Crematory, Worcester. A calling period will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 26, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beaumont Nursing Home Activities Fund, 85 Beaumont Drive, Northbridge, MA 01534.

Maria D. Gerardi, 46

WORCESTER -- Maria D. Gerardi, 46, of 48 Denver Terrace, died Sunday, July 22, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after an illness.

She leaves her mother, Julia A. (Valtkevich) Gerardi; a daughter, Julie Gerardi of Worcester; a sister, Patricia A. Saduski of Worcester; two brothers, Donald P. and Michael A. Gerardi, both of Worcester; a granddaughter. A brother, Thomas W. Gerardi, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Patrick Gerardi, and attended North High School.

She was a homemaker.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, July 25, from Arthur S. Manzi & Son Funeral Home and Garden Chapel, 179 Shrewsbury St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. John's Church, 30 Temple St. Burial will be private. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the APW Foundation, 85 Green St., Worcester, MA 01604.

PORT HUENEME, Calif. -- The funeral Mass for Evelyn (Beaudoin) Giard, 88, of Port Hueneme, formerly of Sterling, Mass., will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 28, in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 133 Main St., Greenfield, Mass.

Mrs. Giard died March 27 in St. John's Hospital, Oxnard, after an illness. Burial of the ashes will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, in Holy Rosary and St. Mary's Cemetery in Spencer, Mass. There are no calling hours.

She leaves two sons, Donald Giard of Huntington Beach and Ronald Giard of Roseville; four grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Chicopee, Mass., and lived 28 years in Sterling before moving to Port Hueneme in 1966. She graduated from Arms Academy in Shelburne Falls, Mass., and from the Franklin County Public Hospital's School of Nursing, Greenfield, in 1937.

A registered nurse, Mrs. Giard worked 28 years in Worcester County. She then worked through the civil service at Fort Devens Army Base in Ayer, Mass., before transferring to the Navy base at Point Mugu, where she worked in the Office of Personnel. She retired in 1975.

Mrs. Giard was a member of the Arms Academy Club and the Nurses Alumni Association of Greenfield. She enjoyed ballroom dancing.
