WEST BOYLSTON -- Daniel A. Mullen, 64, of 351 Maple St., a technician at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, died Thursday, Aug. 16, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, Worcester, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 40 years, Judith A. (Driscoll) Mullen; a son, Gary D. Mullen of Farmington, Mich. ; three daughters, Andrea F. Mullen-Torrey of West Boylston, Danielle J. Mullen-Setaro of Tremoletto, Italy, and Greere S. Mullen of West Boylston; a brother, Richard H. Mullen of Lawrenceville, Ga. ; three grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Brooklyn, N. Y., son of John F. and Irene E. (Ignatz) Mullen, and lived in West Boylston for 30 years. He attended Suffolk University, Boston, and Syracuse University in Syracuse, N. Y. For seven years, he served as a sergeant in the Army Reserve Medical Corps, attached to the 351st General Hospital, Boston.

Mr. Mullen was a professional laboratory technician at the UMass Medical School for 30 years. He was a member of St. Christopher Church, Worcester. He was the former chairman of the West Boylston Zoning Board of Appeals.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, in St. Christopher Church, 950 West Boylston St., Worcester. Burial is private. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Memorial contributions may be made to the Foundation for Biotechnology, 377 Plantation St., Suite 315, Worcester, MA 01605. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, is directing arrangement.

Stephen L. Pease, 47
Thursday, August 23, 2001

PAXTON -- Stephen L. Pease, 47, of Paxton, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, at home.

He leaves his father, Lester H. Pease Jr. of Paxton; two sisters, Carole A. Pease of South Barre and Diane F. Clark of Sutton; and two nephews. He was born in Worcester, son of Gloria A. (Shepard) Pease, and graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in Holden and Anna Maria College. He earned a master's degree in nursing from Regent's College in Albany, N. Y., and was enrolled in a master's program at Seton Hall University in South Orange, N. J.

Mr. Pease was a registered nurse and was administrative manager at University of Massachusetts Medical Center, Worcester. Most recently, he was director of nursing with Community Healthlink. He previously worked at area medical facilities.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, from O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Ave., Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Columba Church, 18 Richards Ave. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, in the funeral home. Please omit flowers. Donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, Massachusetts-Memorial Processing Center, PO Box 31160, Hartford, CT 06510-1160.

Carlos R. Rivera, 29

WORCESTER -- Carlos R. Rivera, 29, of 76 Franklin St., died Sunday, Aug. 19, at home.

He leaves his wife, Jennifer Rivera; two daughters, Carla M. Rivera of Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, and Carolina Rivera of Moore Haven, Fla. ; his parents, Hector Aponte and Rosa M. Cepeda of Rio Piedras; two brothers, Polo and Nando Rivera, both of Connecticut; and a sister, Maria Rivera of Orlando, Fla. He was born in Rio Piedras.

Mr. Rivera was an assembler at Valkyrie Co.

The funeral service and burial will be in Rio Piedras. Graham, Putnam & Mahoney Funeral Parlors, 838 Main St., is directing arrangements.

Pearl M. Roberts, 91
Thursday, August 23, 2001

WEBSTER -- Pearl M. (Guenther) Roberts, 91, of 10 Bates Crossing, a former teacher and school librarian, died Saturday, Aug. 18, in Webster Manor Nursing Home.

Her husband, Edmund Roberts, died in 1963. She leaves two nephews, Gordon W. Appelt of Webster and Douglas Montmar of Zion, Ill. ; and four nieces, Laurie Benard of Kenosha, Wis., Pearl McFadden of Greenwich, Conn., Shirley Racko of Riverside, Conn., and Jeannie Cross Woodman of Schenectady, N. Y. She was born in Webster, daughter of Ferdinand and Lena (Reich) Guenther. She graduated from Bartlett High School and from Boston University College of Practical Arts and Letters and earned a master of arts degree from Boston University College of Liberal Arts and a master's degree in library science from Indiana University.

Mrs. Roberts taught English and history in the Baldwinville section of Templeton; in Gary, Ind. ; and in Camden, Maine. She also was a school librarian in Gary and Camden, retiring in 1985.

She was involved in church and community activities, including Camden Garden Club, and did pet therapy work with the Camden-Rockport Animal Rescue League. She was a member of the Women's Fellowship of First Congregational Church of Camden and the Worcester Philharmonic Orchestra.

The graveside service will be private in Mount Zion Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701; or to Camden-Rockport Animal Rescue League, Route 1, Rockport, ME 04856. Scanlon Funeral Service, East Main Street, is directing arrangements.

Christopher R. Kuhn, 24
Friday, August 24, 2001

NAPLES, Fla. -- Christopher R. Kuhn, 24, of Naples, formerly of Oxford, Mass., drowned Monday, Aug. 20, in Naples.

He leaves his parents, Dennis Kuhn Sr. and Diane Kuhn of Naples; and a brother, Dennis Kuhn Jr. of Columbia, Tenn. He graduated from Bay Path Regional High School in Charlton, Mass., in 1998.

Mr. Kuhn was a carpenter.

A funeral service will be held in Florida. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Quest for Kids, 2706 Horseshoe Drive, Naples, FL 34104.

WORCESTER -- Mary Jean (Carrier) Mercadante, 85, of 627 Sunderland Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after an illness.

Her husband, Querino ""Freddy" Mercadante, died in 1966. She leaves four sons, William A. Mercadante of Slidell La., twins, Francis R. Mercadante of Millbury and Frederick J. Mercadante of Worcester and Querino A. ""Gueddy" Mercadante of Worcester; four sisters, Diana M. Norsigian, Shirley A. Marr and Donna M. Mastrovito, all of Worcester, and Mary Jean Rano of Auburn; two brothers, Joseph Carrier of Fitchburg and Roger Carrier of Waltham; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A brother, Maurice Carrier, predeceased her. She was born in Thetford Minds, Canada, daughter of Joseph and Eva (Nadeau) Carrier, and lived here most of her life.

Mrs. Mercadante was a member of St. John's Church and the Elder Senior Center.

A funeral will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, from Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Elder Senior Plan, 277 East Mountain St., Worcester, MA 01605.

Hoa T. Nguyen, 63

WORCESTER -- Hoa T. Nguyen, 63, of 14 Pinebrook Lane, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus.

She leaves her husband of 36 years, Autumn Peter Tran Xinh; two sons, Tran Q. Hung of Malden and Tran Q. Trung of Worcester; four daughters, Tran Yen Anh of Seattle, Tran Kieu Chinh of Houston, Tran Viet Kieu and Tran Xuan Tien, both of Worcester; two brothers and two sisters in Vietnam; four grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Sadec, Vietnam, daughter of Tran Van Hung and Nguyen Thi Ngo.

Mrs. Nguyen was an elementary school teacher in Vietnam. She was a member of St. John's Church and was active in the Vietnamese Catholic community.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, from O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Ave., with a Mass at 9 a.m. in St. John's Church, 40 Temple St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, in the funeral home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

NORTHBRIDGE -- Sheryl Lynn Westhaver, 44, of Whitinsville, died Thursday, Aug. 23, at home after a long illness.

She leaves two sons, Joshua Schiappucci and Zachary Pelletier, both of Whitinsville; two daughters, Kara and Nova Schiappucci, both of Whitinsville; her father, Albert L. Westhaver Jr. of Franklin; a brother, Albert Westhaver III of Franklin; a sister, Kim Casey of Franklin; two grandsons; five nieces and a nephew. She was born in Norwood, daughter of Catherine A. (Hanson) Westhaver, and was raised in Dedham. She lived in Franklin before moving to Whitinsville 15 years ago.

She was a supervisor more than 13 years for Bose Corp., Westboro.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, in Franklin United Methodist Church, 82 West Central St., Franklin. Burial will be in Union Street Cemetery, Franklin. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, in Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main St., Franklin. HYANNIS -- Helen (Kelleher) Currivan, died Saturday, Sept. 1, in Cape Cod Hospital.

She leaves three daughters, including Jane C. McDonald of Holden; a son; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren.

John P. McLaughlin, 52

MARLBORO -- John P. McLaughlin, 52, of Marlboro, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, Worcester, after an illness.

He leaves his wife, Darlene (Thurber) McLaughlin; two sons, John and Christopher McLaughlin, both of Brewster; a daughter, Patricia Hughes of Albany, Ga. ; two brothers, William McLaughlin of Marlboro and Michael McLaughlin of Wayland; three sisters, Maureen Cimino of Lawrence, Mary Jerome of Marlboro, and Ellen Adamonis of Northboro; two grandsons; many nieces and nephews. A brother, Mark McLaughlin, predeceased him. He was born in Marlboro, son of Elizabeth A. (Stone) McLaughlin. His father, Thomas J. McLaughlin, died Aug. 19. He graduated from Marlboro High School in 1967. He was an Army veteran.

Mr. McLaughlin worked at Digital Equipment Corp. in Hudson, retiring in the early 1980s.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, in Slattery Funeral Home Inc., 40 Pleasant St. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, in the funeral home. Germaine Pelletier, 69

WEBSTER -- Germaine (Dubeau) Pelletier, 69, of 946 School St., died Wednesday, Sept. 5, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center, Worcester, after suffering a stroke a few days earlier.

She leaves her husband of 48 years, Ronald Pelletier; a sister, Jeannette Dubeau of Webster; and a niece. She was born and raised in Webster, daughter of Joseph and Aurora (Belanger) Dubeau.

Mrs. Pelletier was a folder for 18 years at Greeting Card Co., Dudley, retiring in 1974. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, and raised ponies with her husband.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, from Bartel Funeral Home and Chapel, 33 Schofield Ave., Dudley, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 16 East Main St. Burial will be in Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, in the funeral home. Theresa L. Doane, 40

BARRE -- Theresa L. (McNeil) Doane, 40, of 62 Spring Hill Road, died Thursday, Sept. 6, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center.

She leaves two daughters, Crystal T. and Brittany H. Doane, both of Barre; two brothers, George T. McNeil of Fitchburg and Gerald D. McNeil of Goffstown, N. H. ; two sisters, Mary C. Ross of Louisville, Ky., and Sylvia A. Girard of Westminster; her former husband, Leonard Doane of Hubbardston; nephews and nieces. A sister, Holly J. Cote of Gardner, died in 1984. She was born in Gardner, daughter of Thomas and Theresa M. (O'Neil) McNeil, and lived many years in Barre.

Mrs. Doane was a nurse's aide for many years. She enjoyed arts and crafts.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, from Lamoureux-Fletcher Community Funeral Home, 105 Central St., Gardner, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 166 Cross St., Gardner. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Gardner. Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, in the funeral home. Donations may be made to Theresa L.
