STERLING -- Marita C. (Keeler) Ramey, 46, of Sterling, a registered nurse, died Saturday, Sept. 8, in Clinton Hospital.

She leaves her husband, Dr. Allan A. Ramey; five sons, Michael A. Ramey, Nicholas A. Ramey, Patrick D. Ramey, Jesse E. Ramey, and Simeon P. Ramey, all of Sterling; two daughters, Rachel E. Ramey and Sarah C. Ramey, both of Sterling; her parents, Russell and Katherine (Brown) Keeler of Arlington; two sisters, Michelle A. Keeler-Schwab of Holden and Mariam Keeler of Arlington; several aunts, uncles, neices, nephews and cousins. A daughter, Jessica Marie Ramey, predeceased her. Mrs. Ramey was born and raised in Brighton. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy, Newton, and became a licensed practical nurse through Greater Lawrence Vocational School. She became a registered nurse through Fitchburg State College.

Mrs. Ramey worked as a nurse at UMass Medical Center, Worcester; Burbank Hospital, Fitchburg; and HealthAlliance Leominster Hospital. She was a member of St. Anthony Maronite Church, Lawrence, an attendant of St. Cecelia's Church, Leominster, and a friend to the Immacualte Heart of Mary Church and School of Still River. She was a member of Orchard Hills Athletic Club, Leominster.

Mrs. Ramey co-founded the Jessica Marie Ramey Charitable Foundation, which provides food and relief to the people of the Caribbean and Roman Catholic education scholarships.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 14, in St. Anthony's Maronite Church, 145 Amesbury St., Lawrence, with a burial to follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Methuen. Calling hours are 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at The Miles Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road. Memorial contributions may be made to The Jessica Marie Ramey Catholic Charitable Foundation, 136 High St., Lancaster 01523. Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, is handling arrangements.

Dr. Kalman Sinofsky

WORCESTER -- Dr. Kalman S. Sinofsky, 54, of Worcester, a plastic surgeon, died Monday, Sept. 10, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus after being stricken ill.

He leaves his wife of 29 years, Mildred (Salins) Sinofsky; a son, David Sinofsky of Worcester; twin daughters, Laura Sinofsky of Worcester and Michelle Eshbaugh of Marlboro; his mother, Ethel (Chase) Sinofsky of Newton; and two sisters, Susan Surabian of Newton and Amy Mestanik of Carlisle. He was born in Boston, son of Louis Sinofsky, and lived 22 years in Worcester.

He graduated from Colby College in Waterville, Maine, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and from Boston University School of Medicine with honors, where he was awarded the Merit of Excellence and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honors Society. He was a surgical resident at University Hospital, Boston, and had a plastic surgery residence at Strong Memorial Hospital at University of Rochester, N.Y. He served a fellowship at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, N.Y.

Dr. Sinofsky had been a plastic surgeon in private practice in Worcester since 1979. He was on the staff of UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus and St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center.

He was chairman of the Medical Board and surgical director of Worcester Surgical Center. He was board certified and was a member of the American Society of Aesthetic Surgeons.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, in Perlman Funeral Home, 1026 Main St. Burial will be in B'nai B'rith Cemetery. Memorial observance will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701; or to another charity.

Cassandra E. Durling-Joslin, 7; born in Worcester
Friday, September 21, 2001

AUBURN -- Cassandra E. Durling-Joslin, 7, of 113 Washington St., died Sunday, Sept. 16, in Day Kimball Hospital, Putnam, after being stricken ill.

She leaves her father and stepmother, Harvey and Lisa (Bergeron) Joslin of Putnam; her mother, Amy Durling of Summerville, S.C.; five brothers, Christopher Durling and Joshua Gomez, both of Worcester, Tyler Deloia of Milford, Harvey Joslin IV and Brett A. Joslin, both of Putnam; her paternal grandmother, Kathy Joslin of Auburn; her maternal grandmother, Nancy Anderson of Summerville, S.C.; and her paternal great-grandmother and step-great-grandfather, Shirley Van Moll and Robert Marble of Auburn. Cassandra was born in Worcester.

The funeral will be held Monday, Sept. 24, from Graham, Putnam & Mahoney Funeral Parlors, 838 Main St., Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 600 Cambridge St., Worcester. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, in the funeral home.

Jesus Sanchez, 45, killed in tragedy in N.Y.
Wednesday, September 19, 2001

EAST BOSTON -- Jesus ""JR" Sanchez, 45, of East Boston, formerly of Fitchburg, a customer service representative, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, in New York City aboard United Airlines Flight 175.

He leaves a son, Marc Sanchez; a daughter, Felicita Sanchez; five brothers, Julio and Daniel Sanabria, Jesus F., Jesus M. and Miguel A. Sanchez; five sisters, Rosa Rosado, Mirta Sanabria, Amparo Lagares, Lourdes and Maria Sanchez; his father, Jesus S. Rosado of Puerto Rico; nephews and nieces; and a companion, Lynn Greene. He was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, son of Matilde Serrano, and lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., before moving to Fitchburg.

Mr. Sanchez worked at Continental Airlines for 10 years before joining United Airlines in 1998. He was a member of Trinity Church, Leominster. He was a volunteer. He enjoyed baking and decorating cakes for weddings and other family occasions.

Memorial calling hours will be held from 5 to 9 p.m Friday, Sept. 21, at Rapino Memorial Home, 9 Chelsea St. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. at the memorial home. A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, in St. Leo's Church, Main Street, Leominster, followed by a burial of remembrance chest at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the trustee account for survivors of Jesus Sanchez, c/o Citizens Bank, 26 Central Square, East Boston, MA 02128. Curley-Masciarelli Funeral Home, 89 West St., Leominster, is directing local arrangements.

John J. Brejftus, 58

NORTHBRIDGE -- John J. ""Jack the Barber" Brejftus, 58, of Beans Lane, formerly of Clinton, died Thursday, Sept. 27, at home.

He leaves a daughter, Cynthia M. Juskavitch of Uxbridge; two brothers, James Brejtfus and Ronald Brejtfus, both of Arizona; four grandchildren; a niece and a nephew; and a companion, Virginia Lombard of Clinton. He was born in Clinton, son of John and Eucharist (Dodier) Brejtfus, and was educated in Clinton schools. Prior to moving to Northbridge last year, he lived Clinton, Worcester and California.

Mr. Brejftus owned and operated Jack's Barber Shop in Northbridge. Previously, he owned and operated Hair by John in Clinton for several years.

The memorial Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 4, in Good Shepherd Church, 121 Linwood St., Linwood. Burial will be private and at a later date. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations can be made to the American Red Cross 9-11 Disaster Relief Fund, Central Mass. Chapter, PO Box 865, Worcester, MA 01613. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Buma Funeral home, 101 North Main St., Uxbridge.

Kevin D. Dooley, 44

WORCESTER -- Kevin D. Dooley, 44, of 14 Dolly Drive, a Worcester firefighter, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 17 years, Janet L. (Anderson) Dooley; two stepsons, Michael Taylor of Beaufort, S.C., and Brett Taylor of Spencer; two stepdaughters, Rene and Tracylee Taylor, both of Ormond Beach, Fla.; a sister, Mary A. Dooley-McMahon of Worcester; a brother, Worcester Fire Lt. Joseph M. Dooley Jr. of Millbury; his parents, retired Worcester Fire Deputy Chief Joseph M. Dooley and Alda R. (Morin) Dooley, both of Worcester; three step-grandchildren; and a nephew. He was born in Worcester and graduated from North High School. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in Germany.

Mr. Dooley was a Worcester firefighter for 23 years, assigned to Engine Co. 4 for 16 years and Engine Co. 6 for seven years. He also owned and operated Dooley Lawn Sprinkler Co. for 15 years.

He was a member of Local 1009 International Association of Fire Fighters, the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts and the Worcester Fire Department Relief Association. He was a former member of Our Lady of Fatima Church. He also enjoyed golf and fishing.

The funeral will be held Friday, Oct. 5, from Robert C. Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester St., North Grafton, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton St. After cremation, burial will be at the family's convenience. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to New York Firefighters Relief Fund, c/o Local 1009 International Association of Fire Fighters, 625 Chandler St., Worcester, MA 01602.

Emmett Hallihan, 60

WORCESTER -- Emmett ""Red" Hallihan, 60, of 17 Conway St., died Thursday, Sept. 27, in his home after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 38 years, Kathleen A. (Card) Hallihan, two sons, Bryan M. and Brendan J. Hallihan, both of Worcester; two daughters, Heather L. Weeks of Millbury and Kelly A. Paschopoulos of Webster; two brothers, Robert J. Hallihan of Leicester and Brian M. Hallihan of Shrewsbury; a sister, Maureen Hallihan of West Yarmouth; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A brother, John P. Hallihan, died in 1997. He was born in Worcester, son of John P. and Josephine (Kiely) Hallihan. He graduated from Worcester public schools.

Mr. Hallihan worked more than 33 years as a route driver for the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. He was a member of St. Catherine of Sweden Church and the Jeff Club at The Worcester Telegram & Gazette.

The funeral will be held Monday, Oct. 1, from the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Catherine of Sweden Church, 1 Wiser Ave. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at the funeral home.

Arthur J. LeBel, 75, retired shoe company executive

WEBSTER -- Arthur J. LeBel, 75, of 301 Beacon Park, formerly of Manchester, N.H., a retired executive and fourth degree knight, died Monday, Oct. 1, in Webster Manor after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 55 years, Lucienne (Baron) LeBel; two sons, Ronald LeBel of Webster and Donald LeBel of Lake Forest, Calif.; a brother, Roger LeBel of Manchester, N.H.; four sisters, Gertrude Beaudette, Sister Pauline LeBel, CSC, Irene Quirk and M. Beatrice Yvonne Boulanger, all of Manchester, N.H.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A son, Robert LeBel of Dudley; a brother, Alfred J. LeBel; and two sisters, Sister Lillian LeBel and Bernadette Primo, predeceased him. He was born and raised in Manchester, son of Joseph L.A. and Helen (D'amours) LeBel, and lived there 58 years before moving to Webster in 1984. He graduated from a parochial high school. He was a steward with the merchant marine during World War II, serving on ships transporting war supplies and troops to Europe.

Mr. LeBel was a footwear executive in Manchester and Webster, retiring from Webster Shoe Co.

He was a member of St. Louis Church; a 43-year member and fourth degree knight with Knights of Columbus Council 228; a past grand knight and a member of Cardinal Wright Assembly; and a member of American Legion Post 184. He enjoyed playing pitch and golfing.

The funeral, with military honors, will be held Friday, Oct. 5, from Bartel Funeral Home & Chapel, 33 Schofield Ave., Dudley, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Louis Church, 14 Lake St. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Dr. John J. Monahan

NORTH HAMPTON, N.H. -- Dr. John J. Monahan, 70, of North Hampton, formerly of Worcester, Mass., an orthopedic surgeon and emeritus professor, died Saturday, Sept. 29, at home of congestive heart failure.

He leaves his wife, Judith R. (Chabot) Monahan; four sons, John M. and Brien Monahan, both of North Hampton, Michael Monahan of Colorado and Robert Monahan of Chicago; three daughters, Kathleen Monahan and Ann Anderson, both of Worcester, and Susan Ouellette of Marlboro, Mass.; a sister, Ann Jane Driscoll of Buffalo, N.Y.; six grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Erie, Pa., son of Walter T. and Nellie Monahan, and lived in Worcester before moving to New Hampshire. He attended Cathedral Preparatory School, Erie, where he played football. He earned a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., and an M.D. from Harvard Medical School in 1958. He interned at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, N.H., and did surgical residencies at Hitchcock Memorial Hospital, Children's Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital and Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, all in Boston. He was certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He retired from the Naval Reserves as a lieutenant.

Dr. Monahan was chairman of the orthopedics department at Hamot Medical Center, Erie; medical director of McKean County Crippled Children Society in Bradford, Pa.; and chief of surgery at the Erie unit of Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.

Beginning in 1977, he held various clinical and academic positions at University of Massachusetts Medical School, Worcester, including director of sports medicine, assistant director of the trauma center, professor of Physiology Graduate School and full professor of orthopedics. He received many teaching awards and authored, co-authored and edited numerous academic studies and articles.

The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, in Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove St., Worcester. Burial will be in St. Catherine's Cemetery in Westford, Mass. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, in Healy Funeral Home, 57 North Main St., Westford. 30

David W. Mulcahy Jr.

WORCESTER -- David W. Mulcahy Jr., 71, of 86 Copperfield Road, died Saturday, Sept. 29, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus after being stricken ill at home.

He leaves his wife of 45 years, Julienne H. (Lambert) Mulcahy; five sons, David W. Mulcahy III and Ryan J. Mulcahy, both of Worcester, Mark J. Mulcahy of Shrewsbury, Patrick M. Mulcahy of Eastford, Conn., and Daniel R. Mulcahy of Charlton; four daughters, Cheryl L. Logee of Paxton, Sharon M. Barry and Marlene J. Mulcahy, both of Worcester, and Lisa A. Desroches of Rutland; two brothers, Robert D. and Francis J. Mulcahy, both of Worcester; a sister, Mae I. O'Dowd of Worcester; 12 grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of David W. and Mary C. (Deignan) Mulcahy, and graduated from Commerce High School. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Mulcahy was a service station owner in Worcester, retiring in 1981. He was a former member of Worcester Lodge of Elks 243.

The private graveside service will be held in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made to Massachusetts Veterans Shelter Memorial Fund, 69 Grove St., Worcester, MA 01605. Kelly Funeral Home, 154 Lincoln St., is directing arrangements.

Kathryn L. Roy, 47

GRAFTON -- Kathryn L. Roy, 47, of 82 Pleasant St., died Friday, Sept. 28, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus. Morin Funeral Home, 298 Grafton St., Worcester, will be directing funeral arrangements, which are incomplete.

Diane Cloutier, 45
Wednesday, October 10, 2001

WORCESTER -- Diane Cloutier, 45, of 23 Grand St., died Tuesday, Oct. 9, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center.

She leaves her parents, David J. and Dorothea (Seaver) Cloutier of Worcester; four brothers, David E., Donald J. and Daniel E. Cloutier, all of Worcester, and Dale A. Cloutier of San Diego, Calif; a granddaughter; and a close companion, Rose Egan of Worcester. A son, Todd Cloutier, died last April. She was born in Worcester. She attended Burncoat High School.

Miss Cloutier worked in retail in the Worcester area, before becoming ill.

A memorial Mass will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at St. Peter's Church, 931 Main St. There are no calling hours. Burial will be private. Graham Putnam & Mahoney Funeral Parlors, 838 Main St., will be directing funeral arrangements.

Victoria Horanzy, 87
Saturday, October 06, 2001

WEBSTER -- Victoria Horanzy, 87, of 26 Harris St., died Thursday, Oct. 4, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after a brief illness.

She leaves a son, Francis Horanzy of Webster; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Frank Horanzy and Stanley Horanzy Sr., and a sister, Stella Kapitulik, predeceased her. She was born in Webster, daughter of Peter Horanzy Sr. and Veronica (Sak) Horanzy.

She worked many years at the former American Optical Co. in Southbridge, and then was a dietary aide at Oakwood Convalescent Home.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Basilica and its Polish Women's Club and St. Anne Society.

The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, in St. Joseph Garden of Peace Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph's School Fund, 53 Whitcomb St., Webster, MA 01570. Robert J. Miller Funeral Home and Lake Chapel, 366 School St., is directing arrangements.

Margaret M. Hultgren

GRAFTON -- Margaret M. (O'Connor) Hultgren, 69, of 3 Waterville Circle, formerly of Puritan Avenue, Worcester, and a retired clerk at the Worcester School Department, died Monday, Oct. 8 at home after an illness.

She leaves three sons, David J. Hultgren of Virginia Beach, Va., Thomas S. Hultgren of Dracut, and John K. Hultgren of Oxford; three daughters, Margaret M. Silvasa, with whom she lived, Susan Carreau of Worcester, and Lucy Martel of Grafton; two brothers, John O'Connor of Syracuse, N.Y., and Thomas O'Connor of Dennis; a sister, Patricia O'Connor of Worcester; 18 grandchildren; a great-grandchild, and many nephews and nieces. A daughter, Ann Marie Brodeur, died this year, and a brother, Patrick O'Connor died in 1997. She was born in Worcester, daughter of John S. and Anna (Neville) O'Connor, and lived most of her life in Worcester before moving to Grafton.

Mrs. Hultgren was a clerk for the Worcester School Department for 22 years, retiring in 1998. She was a member of St. Stephen's Church and a former member of its Guild. She was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. She enjoyed traveling, sewing and playing cards.

A funeral will be held Thursday, Oct. 11, from O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Ave., Worcester, with a Mass at 12 noon in St. Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton St., Worcester. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 10 in the funeral home.
