Mabelle R. Nicholson

AUBURN -- Mabelle R. (Allen) Nicholson, 92, of 14 Masonic Circle, formerly of Worcester, a retired executive secretary, died Monday, Nov. 12, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus, Worcester, after an illness.

Her husband, J. Howard Nicholson Sr., predeceased her. She leaves two sons, John H. Nicholson Jr. of Auburn and Allen R. Nicholson of Groton; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three nieces. A daughter, Judith Ann Nicholson, and three sisters, Marion Robertson of Worcester, Olive Coleman of Auburn and Dorothy Gallant of Holden, predeceased her. She was born in Spencer, daughter of William and Elizabeth (Taylor) Allen, and lived more than 40 years in Auburn. She graduated from South High School, Worcester, where she was a Horace Mann scholar. She studied nursing at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Boston.

Mrs. Nicholson was the executive secretary to the presidents of Worcester Mutual Insurance, Hanover Insurance and State Mutual Life Assurance Co. She retired in 1984.

She was a member of Hadwen Park Congregational Church, Worcester, past president of the Auburn Women's Club, and was active in Auburn Parent Teacher Associations. She enjoyed traveling.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, in Hadwen Park Congregational Church, 6 Clover St., Worcester. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, in Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hadwen Park Congregational Church Memorial Fund, 6 Clover St., Worcester, MA 01603.

Mary M. O'Malley, 71
Wednesday, November 14, 2001

CLINTON -- Mary M. (Burlingame) O'Malley, 71, of 73 John St., an assembler, died Monday, Nov. 12, in Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital, Worcester, after an illness.

She leaves her husband of 47 years, Martin H. O'Malley; two sons, Mark S. O'Malley of Leominster and Keith B. O'Malley of Clinton; a daughter, Kim E. O'Malley-Houck of Sterling; a brother, Arthur F. Burlingame Jr. of Leicester; a sister, Barbara Spencer of Worcester; seven grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of Arthur F. and Mary (Fleming) Burlingame, and lived many years in Clinton. She graduated from Worcester Vocational High School.

Mrs. O'Malley was an assembler at Nypro Inc. for the past 19 years and worked until the time of her death. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church.

The funeral will be held Thursday, Nov. 15, from Robert J. McNally Funeral Home, 304 Church St., with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St. Burial will be at the family's convenience in Reservoir Pines Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John's Restoration Fund, 149 Chestnut St., Clinton, MA 01510.

Rose E. Padula, 90
Thursday, November 15, 2001

MARLBORO -- Rose E. Padula, 90, of Marlboro, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, in Marlboro Hospital after a brief illness.

She leaves two brothers, Charles A. Padula of Marlboro and Frank A. Padula of Barrington, N.H.; a sister, Palmina Gray of Sarasota, Fla.; many nieces and nephews. She was born in Marlboro, daughter of Joseph and Rose (Serene) Padula.

She was a member of St. Ann's Parish. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed gardening.

The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, in William R. Short & Son Funeral Home, 95 West Main St. After cremation, burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, in the funeral home. Donations may be made to St. Ann's Parish Memorial Fund, 466 Lincoln St., Marlboro, MA 01752.

Tyler M. Pare, infant

MILLVILLE -- Tyler M. Pare, infant son of Christopher M. Pare and Elizabeth K. Howington, both of Millville, died Thursday, Nov. 8, in Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket, R.I., after being stricken ill at home.

He leaves her maternal grandparents, Robin and Peter Allen of Millville; his paternal grandparents, Elaine and Michael Pare of Millville, and Roger Howington in South Carolina; his maternal great-grandparents, Edward A. Paille of Uxbridge and Lorraine and Peter Allen of Mendon; his paternal great-grandmother, Alice Pare of Blackstone; and his maternal great-great-grandfather, G. Phillip Tancrell of Uxbridge. He was born July 21 in Milford.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, Nov. 13, from Tancrell-Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Road, Uxbridge, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Church, 48 St. Paul St., Blackstone. Burial will be at a later date in St. Paul's Cemetery, Blackstone. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, in the funeral home.

Ingrid I. Pehl, 87
Sunday, November 11, 2001

SHREWSBURY -- Ingrid I. (Lundgren) Pehl, 87, of 36 North Quinsigamond Ave., died Saturday, Nov. 3, in Harrington House, Walpole.

Her husband, Hans M. Pehl, died several years ago. She leaves two sons, Spencer Pehl of West Boylston and Brian Pehl of Shrewsbury; a daughter, Sharon Waibel of Foxboro; a sister, Norma Witt of Florida; and seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. A brother, Edward Lundgren, of Shrewsbury and a sister, Constance Blackett, of Shrewsbury predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Carl L. and Martha (Lindberg) Lundgren, and lived most of her life in Shrewsbury.

She worked many years for the Paul Revere Insurance Co. in Worcester.

She enjoyed traveling throughout Europe.

The private memorial service will be held in Graham, Putnam, Mahoney Funeral Parlor. Burial will be private. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Carol A. Pellerin, 60
Thursday, November 15, 2001

WEBSTER -- Carol A. (Sicard) Pellerin, 60, of 30 Prospect St., died Monday, Nov. 12, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, Worcester, after a brief illness.

She leaves four daughters, Denise T. Gill of Lowell, Susan J. Hall of Londonderry, N.H., Michelle A. Dube of Lowell and Jeanne M. Poulin of Salem, N.H.; a sister, Pauline Reed of Florida; her companion of 20 years, George E. Landry, with whom she lived; seven grandchildren. A son, David Pellerin, died in 1967. She was born in Lowell, daughter of Ovila and M. Alice (Larochelle) Sicard, and moved to Webster three years ago.

Mrs. Pellerin was a nurse's aide at several area nursing homes.

The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, in St. Jeanne d'Arc Church, 129 Fourth Ave., Lowell. Calling hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, in Roland W. Martin Funeral Home, 308 Pawtucket St., Lowell.

Margaret L. Penny, 78

WORCESTER -- Margaret L. (Salvidio) Penny, 78, of 441 Sunderland Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus.

Her husband of 48 years, Walter J. Penny Sr., died in 1992. She leaves two sons, Walter J. Penny Jr. and Thomas F. Penny, both of Worcester; four daughters, Geraldine L. Crosby of Stoneham, Maureen M. Pleszka of Dudley, Kathleen M. Anderson of Shrewsbury and Eileen M. Girardi of Nevada; two brothers, Frank Salvidio of Florida and Paul Salvidio of Arizona; three sisters, Irene Nelson of Worcester, Ruth Husson of Grafton and Joan Casamassima of Northboro; six grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A brother, Pasquale Salvidio, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Anthony and Assunta (Reggiere) Salvidio.

Mrs. Penny was a member of St. Stephen's Church.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Nov. 17, from Louis Fazio & Sons Funeral Home, 9 Branch St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen Church, 357 Grafton St. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, in the funeral home.

Susan R. Peruzzi, 55
Wednesday, November 14, 2001

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. -- Susan R. (Lehr) Peruzzi, 55, of 123 Hilo Road, formerly of Worcester, Mass., a painter, died Monday, Nov. 12, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center, Worcester, after a short illness.

She leaves her husband of 17 years, Scott Peruzzi; her mother, Silvia Lehr Topol of Worcester; a brother, Harold R. Lehr of Larchmont, N.Y.; a nephew and two nieces. A daughter, Santana Ferguson, died in 1978. She was born in Brookline, Mass., daughter of Dr. Emil Lehr, and lived in Worcester and in Fort Pierce, Fla., before moving to Fayetteville 15 years ago. She graduated from Brookline High School and attended Pratt Institute in New York City.

Mrs. Peruzzi was an artist and exhibited her paintings at galleries in the Atlanta area. She loved animals.

The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, in Beth David Cemetery, Elmont Road, Elmont, N.Y. Memorial observance will be held Thursday, Nov. 15, through Friday afternoon, Nov. 16, at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Topol, 42 Barre Road, Worcester. Memorial donations may be made to Temple Emanuel, 280 May St., Worcester, MA 01602. Perlman Funeral Home, 1026 Main St., Worcester, is directing arrangements.

Lawrence A. Pierce, 88

DOUGLAS -- The funeral service for Mary A. (Minior) Pilch, 85, of 55 Walnut St., who died Monday, Nov. 12, will be held Thurday, Nov. 15, from Jackman-Tancrell Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Denis Church, 23 Manchaug Road.

Her husband, Fred W. Pilch, died in 1971.

LUNENBURG -- Raymond A. Powell Jr., 57, of 560 Mulpus Road, a business owner who was active with youth sports in town, died Friday, Nov. 9, at his home, after a long illness.

He leaves his wife of 10 years, Judith (Wiitala) Powell; three sons, Jeffrey A., Steven R. and Ryan W. Powell, all of Lunenburg; two daughters, Carole Menouel in France and Heather M. Powell of Lunenburg; two brothers, Tony Mayo of Lunenburg and Michael Powell in California; five sisters, Gloria Marvell and Janice King, both of Lunenburg, Judy Hewitt of Chittenden, Vt., June Bechard of Leominster and Cheryl Dauphines of Ashburnham; his former wife, Linda (Bresnahan) Powell of Westminster; seven grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Fitchburg, son of Raymond A. Powell and Exilda (Forcier) Powell-Mayo. He was a specialist fourth class in the Army, serving in Germany from 1961 to 1964.

Mr. Powell owned and operated Powell Sand and Gravel Co. for more than 30 years. He was past president of the Lunenburg Little League, and was active in Lunenburg Pop Warner. The new Little League field in Marshall Park was recently named after him for his dedication to the town's youth sports programs.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, Nov. 13, from the Lunenburg Chapel of Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 763 Massachusetts Ave., with a Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Boniface Church, 817 Massachusetts Ave. Burial will be in North Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Raymond A. Powell Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Leominster Enterprise Bank and Trust, 4 Central St., Leominster, MA 01453; or may be left at the funeral home.

Grace E. Purrington, 84

PHOENIX -- Grace E. (Willey) Purrington, 84, of Phoenix, formerly of North Brookfield, Mass., died Saturday, Nov. 10, at home.

Her husband, Delford Purrington, predeceased her. She leaves two daughters, Patricia Purrington of Phoenix and Rita Beach of Thomotosassa, Fla.; a sister, Edna Wells of Barre, Mass.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was born in North Brookfield, daughter of George F. and Edith (Cummings) Willey, and lived many years in California before moving to Phoenix in 1982.

Mrs. Purrington was a psychiatric nurse's assistant for local hospitals.

The graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, in Walnut Grove Cemetery in North Brookfield. Calling hours are 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, in Pillsbury Funeral Home, 44 Gilbert St., North Brookfield.

Aake W. Rantala, 77
Sunday, November 11, 2001

PAXTON -- Aake W. Rantala, 77, of 8 Briarcliff Lane, a World War II veteran, died Friday, Nov. 9, in Hermitage Nursing Home, Worcester.

His wife of 47 years, Florence G. (Davis) Rantala, died in 1998. He leaves a brother, Pentti Rantala of Paxton; a sister, Eva Hirvi of Paxton; and many nieces and nephews. He was born in Kurikka, Finland, son of Isakki and Lyyli (Kujala) Rantala, and lived 45 years in Paxton. He graduated from Commerce High School High School, Worcester, and attended Worcester Junior College. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific.

Mr. Rantala was an inspector at Telechron Co. and at General Electric Co., in Worcester and in Ashland, for more than 30 years. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in Nordgren, Carrigan and Mangsen Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park. A calling hour is noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Finnish Heritage Society-Souittaja, 4 Ridgewood Road.

Timo A. Rantala, 52
Wednesday, November 14, 2001

ASHBY -- Timo A. Rantala, 52, of 240 Turnpike Road, a retired electrician, died Monday, Nov. 12, at home after an illness.

He leaves his fiancee, Sandy Leach of Ashby; a daughter, Karla M. Rantala of Ashby; a son, Allan A. Rantala of New River, N.C.; a brother, Kari J. Rantala of Ashby; a niece; and four stepchildren. He was born in Ahtari, Finland, son of Aarno and Hilja (Jussila) Rantala, and lived many years in Ashby. He graduated from Ashby High School in 1968 and was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam.

Mr. Rantala was a self-employed electrician before retiring because of illness. He was a member of Ashby Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Ashby Fire Department, and was a first responder on the Ashby Ambulance Squad.

The funeral service will be held at a time to be announced. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ashby Ambulance Squad, c/o Sue Cudmore, Erickson Road, Ashby, MA 01431; or to Oncology Department, Lahey Clinic, 41 Mall Road, Burlington, MA 01805. Aubuchon-Moorcroft Funeral Home, 132 Woodland St., Fitchburg, is directing arrangements.
