James T. Shore, 96
Thursday, November 15, 2001

MILLBURY -- James T. Shore, 96, formerly of 7 Waters St., a retired machinist, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, in Providence House Nursing Home after a long illness.

His wife, Katherine R. (Waiz) Zuranski Shore, died in 1994. He leaves a brother, Daniel Jones of Grafton; nephews and nieces. His first wife, Alice (Lemieux) Shore, died in 1973. Two brothers, Harold Shore of Akron, Ohio, and Oswald Shore of the Wilkinsonville section of Sutton, and two sisters, Margaret Smith of Northbridge and Ida Smith of Charlton, also predeceased him. He was born in the Lonsdale section of Lincoln, R.I., son of James A. and Ellen (Charlton) Shore, and was raised in Northbridge. He lived in Wilkinsonville before moving to Millbury in 1944.

Mr. Shore was a machinist at Crompton & Knowles Co., Worcester, for 29 years, retiring in 1969. Previously, he was a pattern maker for 20 years at American Weavers Co., South Grafton.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish and a former member and local president of the South Grafton Local, United Textile Workers of America.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Nov. 17, from Turgeon Funeral Home, 56 Main St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 12 Waters St. Burial will be in Central Cemetery. A calling hour is 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of the Assumption Church Renovation Fund, 12 Waters St., Millbury, MA 01527.

Lilian Snow, 83
Sunday, November 11, 2001

SOUTHBRIDGE -- Lilian (Haigh) Snow, 83, of 59 Fiske St., died Saturday, Nov. 10, in The Meadows of Leicester.

Her husband, Stuart K. Snow, died in 1978. She leaves a son, Stuart J. Snow of Sutton; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. She was born in England, daughter of William and Lily (Taylor) Haigh.

Mrs. Snow worked many years at Sears, retiring several years ago.

She was a member of the Southbridge Senior Bowling League, and enjoyed line dancing.

The funeral service will be held at noon Tuesday, Nov. 13, in Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge. After cremation, burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Calling hours are 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Nov. 13, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity.

Marie D. Sorel, 78
Saturday, November 10, 2001

WARE -- Marie D. (Charbonneau) Sorel, 78, of 35 Aspen St., a retired nurse, died Thursday, Nov. 8, in Baystate Medical Center, Springfield.

Her husband of 31 years, Roland Sorel, died in 1982. She leaves two sons, Roland "Joe" Sorel of the Three Rivers section of Palmer and Thomas Sorel of Ware; three daughters, Anita Jamilowski, Paulette Charpentier and Maggie Sorel, all of Ware; a brother, Roger Charbonneau in Nebraska; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was born in Chicopee, daughter of Telesphore and Delia (Roy) Charbonneau, and lived in West Brookfield for a time. She lived most of her life in Ware. She graduated from Warren High School and from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Springfield.

Mrs. Sorel was a registered nurse for 41 years at Mary Lane Hospital, mostly in the maternity department, retiring in 1988. She was a member of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, and a member of All Saints Church, Ladies of St. Anne, Daughters of Isabella and Ware Golden Agers. She was a Girl Scouts leader and a police matron. She was Ware's Citizen of the Year in 1983.

The funeral will be held Monday, Nov. 12, from Charbonneau Funeral Home, 30 Pleasant St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in All Saints Church, North Street. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, in the funeral home.

Richard L. Spring, 79
Wednesday, November 14, 2001

WORCESTER -- Richard L."Bubba" Spring, 79, of 31 Elliot St., a former machinist, died Sunday, Nov. 11, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus after an illness.

He leaves two sisters, Beatrice Ware and Marion M. Miller, both of Worcester; and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Ellis and Eugene Spring, and three sisters, Helen Barrett, Elizabeth Burton and Lucy Price, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Sip and Hester (Brevard) Spring, and lived most of his life here.

Mr. Spring worked several years as a machinist at Whiting Machine Co. in Whitinsville.

A funeral will be held at noon Friday, Nov. 16, in O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Ave. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery.

Myrtle D. Stilu, 75
Monday, November 12, 2001

PUTNAM -- Myrtle D. (Chickering) Stilu, 75, of Putnam and Punta Gorda, Fla., a longtime hospital volunteer, died Sunday, Nov. 11, at home after a long illness.

She leaves her husband of 54 years, Demitri "Jim" Stilu; two daughters, Sheila Gough of Woodstock and Tami LaBelle of North Grosvenordale; a son, Danny Stilu of Putnam; four sisters, Elnora Buzzell of Damariscotta, Maine, Bess Laramee of Alna, Maine, Helen Pierce of Dresden, Maine, and Ethel Burdick of Chicopee; two brothers, Alfred Chickering of Uxbridge and James Chickering of Damariscotta; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A sister, Alberta Wheaton, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Alfred and Myrtle (Curtis) Chickering.

Mrs. Stilu worked more than 25 years at American Optical of Southbridge and Putnam. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, the Punta Gorda Grange, and the Pocahontas of the Redmen. She volunteered more than 1,000 hours of service at Day Kimball Hospital. She enjoyed playing bingo and traveling.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St. Burial will be in West Thompson Cemetery, Thompson. A calling hour will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Northeastern Connecticut, P.O. Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260.

Bill H. Streeter, 45
Thursday, November 15, 2001

LEICESTER -- Bill H. Streeter, 45, of 627 Pleasant St., Rochdale, a supervisor, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, Worcester, after being stricken ill at home.

He leaves his wife of 23 years, Susan F. (Kobel) Streeter; two sons, Andrew H. and Jeffrey M. Streeter, both of Rochdale; a daughter, Kathryn E. Streeter of Rochdale; a brother, Randy C. Streeter of Norfolk, Va.; a sister, Sue E. Mercer of Leicester; nieces and nephews. He was born in Worcester, son of Clarence and Phyllis (Wolfenden) Streeter, and graduated from Leicester High School.

Mr. Streeter was a supervisor of emergency roadside assistance the past two years for AMI Leasing, Worcester. He previously worked at Affordable Windows & Doors.

He was a member of the Board of Directors of Leicester Community Access Channel, where he was a cameraman for Leicester sports events. He was also a freelance cameraman for Worcester's Channel 3, videotaping Worcester County high school sports. He was a former member of Leicester Little League Board of Directors, and formerly coached youth baseball and soccer. He served nine years on the Rochdale Fire Department and was a dispatcher five years for the Leicester Police Department.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, in J. Henri Morin & Son Funeral Home, 23 Maple Terrace, Spencer. Burial will be in Greenville Baptist Cemetery, Rochdale. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bill H. Streeter Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Leicester High School, 174 Paxton St., Leicester, MA 01524.

Thomas M. Sviklas, 81
Sunday, November 11, 2001

WORCESTER -- Thomas M. Sviklas, 81, of 39 Fox St., died Saturday, Nov. 10, at home.

He leaves a sister, Helen M. Skliutas of Worcester; several nephews. A brother, Vincent Sviklas of Millbury, died in 1988. He was born in Palmer, son of Ignas and Elizabeth (Dilionas) Sviklas, and lived most of his life in Worcester. He graduated from St. John's High School, then on Temple Street in Worcester, and later served during World War II with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific.

Mr. Sviklas was a boiler operator 35 years for Mass. Electric Co., retiring in 1982; he worked there as a boiler operator for 35 years.

He was a longtime member of St. Casimir Parish.

The funeral will be held Monday, Nov. 12, from Dirsa-Kazlauskas Funeral Home, 51 Providence St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Casimir Church, 41 Providence St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. A calling hour is 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, in the funeral home.

Daniel J. Sweeney, 79

ACTON -- Daniel J. Sweeney, 79, of Acton, a World War II veteran, died Friday, Nov. 9, at home.

He leaves his wife of 55 years, Lucy A. (Joyce) Sweeney; seven daughters, Mary Clark of Leominster, Kathleen Colburn of Littleton, Sheila Belliveau of Leominster, Rose Nevala of Ashburnham, Eileen Eisner of Daytona Beach, Fla., Maureen Gallant of Acton and Joyce Saliga of Hubbardston; a son, Daniel P. Sweeney of Leominster; four brothers, Joseph Sweeney of Florida, Robert Sweeney of Boxboro, Kevin Sweeney of Acton and Michael Sweeney of Maynard; three sisters, Kathleen Curran of Danvers, Maureen Blodgett of Acton and Margaret Payne of Thompson, Conn.; 20 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Four brothers, Jackie, Paul, James and Patrick Sweeney, predeceased him.

He was born in Everett, son of Daniel and Beatrice (King) Sweeney, and lived many years in Acton. He graduated from Acton High School and attended the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.

Mr. Sweeney was a pipe fitter for Pipe Fitters Local 92, Fitchburg. Previously, he worked at sea with the Merchant Marines and Esso Standard Oil Co. He enjoyed reading and gardening.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 89 Arlington St. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, in Acton Funeral Home, 470 Mass. Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Emerson Hospice Program, P.O. Box 9120, Concord, MA 01742.

Paul M. Sweeney, 75
Tuesday, November 13, 2001

CONCORD -- Paul M. Sweeney, 75, of Concord, formerly of Worcester, died Monday, Nov. 12, in Emerson Hospital.

His wife, Mary E. (Rogers) Sweeney, died in 1998. He leaves a son, Paul M. Sweeney II of Acton. Two brothers, Joseph and William Sweeney Jr., predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of William and Dora Sweeney, and moved to Concord in the 1950s. He attended Worcester schools. He served in the Navy and Army Air Forces and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Mr. Sweeney was a lieutenant and police prosecutor for more than 20 years with the Concord Police Department, retiring in 1975.

The funeral will be held at 8 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, from Joseph Dee & Son Funeral Home, 27 Bedford St., with a Mass at 9 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, West Concord. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, in the funeral home.

Sweeney funeral

CONCORD -- The funeral for Paul M. Sweeney, 75, of Concord, formerly of Worcester, who died Monday, Nov. 12, will be held at 8 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, from Joseph Dee & Son Funeral Home, 27 Bedford St., with a Mass at 9 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, West Concord. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, in the funeral home.

Arlene H. Tebo, 76
Sunday, November 11, 2001

MARLBORO -- Arlene H. (Perry) Tebo, 76, of Marlboro, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, in Marlboro Hospital after an illness. She leaves a brother, Herbert O. Perry of Boston; a sister, Marion E. Balser Paquette of Alton, N.H.; many nieces and nephews. She was born in Marlboro, daughter of Ethel M. Perry and Michael McCarthy, and attended Marlboro schools.

Mrs. Tebo was a hostess at various restaurants in the Redondo Beach, Calif., area, before returning to Marlboro.

She enjoyed collecting clowns and salt and pepper shakers.

After cremation at Rural Crematory in Worcester, a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 116 Union St. Burial will be in the family lot in Maplewood Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 116 Union St., Marlboro, MA 01752. John P. Rowe Funeral Home Inc., 57 Main St., is directing arrangements.

Mary F. Toohey, 62
Sunday, November 11, 2001

HUDSON -- Mary F. (MacNally) Toohey, 62, of 113 4F Brigham St., died Friday, Nov. 9, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Marlboro Hospital, after an illness.

The Merrill-Carleton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Alfonso Vacarelo, 98
Tuesday, November 13, 2001

FITCHBURG -- Alfonso "Al" Vacarelo, 98, of 137 Albee St., a former painter, died Monday, Nov. 12, in HealthAllaince -- Leominster Hospital.

He leaves his wife of 71 years, Diega "Dickie" (Greco) Vacarelo; a son Richard V. Vacarelo of Lunenburg; three daughters, JoAnneDiPrima of Fitchburg, Carol A. Crowley of Sunrise, Fla., and Linda M. Fiffy of Salisbury; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A brother, Rosario Vacarelo, predeceased him. He was born in Aragona, Sicily, son of Vincent and Carmella (Spiro) Vacarelo, and came to the United States when he was eight. He lived in Waltham before moving to Fitchburg in 1933. He attended Waltham schools.

Mr. Vacarelo was a self-employed painter and wallpaperer. Previously, he worked at Independent Lock Co., and as a machinist for Magnus Metal. He was a drummer in the Waltham Military Band.

A funeral will be held Thursday, Nov. 15, from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony De Padua Church, 84 Salem St. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Calling hours are from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, in the funeral home.
