Rachel R. Clark, 85

MARLBORO -- Rachel R. (Scorzelli) Clark, 85, of Marlboro, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, in Marlboro Hospital after an illness.

She leaves her husband of 63 years, Edwin D. Clark; two daughters, Ellen R. Caless of Bolton and Joan C. McLellon of Newport News, Va.; a son, Thomas J. Clark of Leominster; a sister, Pearl Domanico of Hudson; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was born in Washington, Pa., daughter of Angelo and Rose (Miele) Scorzelli, and lived 50 years in Marlboro. She attended Marlboro schools.

Mrs. Clark was an engineer's assistant more than 20 years at Raytheon Corp. in Wayland, retiring in 1981.

She was a member of St. Matthias Church. She was a talented seamstress, and made clothing for her grandchildren. She enjoyed arts and crafts.

Private services and cremation in Rural Crematory, Worcester, will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made to Our Danny Cancer Fund, UMass Memorial Foundation, PO Box 2795, Worcester, MA 01613-9938 or to a charity. John P. Rowe Funeral Home Inc., 57 Main St., is directing arrangements.

Irving L. Conner, 85

WORCESTER -- Irving L. Conner, 85, of 52 Crowningshield Road, World War II veteran, died Thursday, Dec. 6, in his home.

He leaves his wife of 58 years, Adeline A. (Szklarz) Conner; two sons, Robert S. Szklarz of Auburn and Kenneth F. Conner of Worcester; a brother, William R. Connor of Woodville; three grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A brother, Llewellyn Conner of Newport, R.I., and a sister, Edna Conner Raftery of Worcester, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Albert and Florence (Duff) Conner. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a seaman second class. He saw more than 45 battles and was awarded 12 Bronze Stars.

Mr. Conner was a machine adjuster for 30 years for several envelope manufacturing companies including National Envelope Company, before retiring in 1981. He was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church and the Vernon Hill Post American Legion. He traveled throughout the country to attend Navy reunions.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 11, from Henry Funeral Home, 33 Ward St., with a Mass at 10:30 a.m., in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St. Burial with military honors will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Seven Hills Foundation, 81 Hope Ave., Worcester, MA 01603.

Ovila J. Courteau, 81

UXBRIDGE -- Ovila J. "Shorty" Courteau, 81, formerly of 18 Lake St., Linwood section of Uxbridge, a retired meat cutter and a veteran of World War II, died Thursday, Dec. 6, in Northbridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 56 years, Dorothy J. (Boulanger) Courteau; a brother, Alphonse Courteau; nephews and nieces. Three brothers, Ernest, Felix and Alfonse Courteau, and a sister, Emma Bowers, predeceased him. He was born in Uxbridge, son of Felix and Delia (Savage) Courteau. He was educated at Good Shepherd School, Linwood. He was a Army veteran of World War II, serving in India.

Mr. Courteau was a meat cutter for many years at the former Taft's store and Phillips Market, both in the Whitinsville section of Northbridge, and later at the Victory Supermarket in Uxbridge. He retired in 1997. He was a member of Mumford Council 365 Knights of Columbus, Whitinsville; Bishop O'Reilly Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus in Worcester; and VFW Post 1385, where he was a past commander. He belonged to Good Shepherd Church, Linwood. He enjoyed bowling and playing horseshoes.

The funeral will be held Monday, Dec. 10, from Tancrell-Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Road, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Good Shepherd Church, 121 Linwood St., Linwood. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, in the funeral home.

Wilfred J. Cranston, 93

WORCESTER -- Wilfred J. Cranston, 93, of 6 Birmingham Road, died Friday, Dec. 7, in Marlboro Hospital, after a short illness.

His wife, Mary (Ryan) Cranston, died in 1978. He leaves a longtime companion, Katherine G. Munzert Cook of Northboro. He was predeceased by two brothers, Howard Cranston of Leicester, who died in November, and Arthur Cranston of West Brookfield. He was born in Southbridge, son of Arthur S. and Hannah M. (Boucher) Cranston, and lived most of his life in Worcester.

Mr. Cranston was a photoengraver for Howard Wesson Co. for many years. He was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church and the Graphic Arts International Union.

The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 25 Fales St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, in Leland-Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Northboro.

Her husband was the late Mateo M. Gentile. She leaves a sister, Herbert B. Jacobson of South Brookfield; nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, in St. Jude Chapel of Christ the King Church, Mashpee. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. There are no calling hours. Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., is directing arrangements.

WORCESTER -- Michael L. Gillis, 44, of 19 Richmond Ave., died Saturday, Dec. 8, at home after being stricken ill.

He leaves his wife of 20 years, Lynne C. (Iagallo) Gillis; a son, James M. Gillis of Worcester; a daughter, Jennifer G. Gillis, of Worcester; six brothers, James J. Gillis Jr., of Vineyard Haven, John W. Gillis of Westbrook, Maine, Robert E. Gillis of Falmouth, Richard C. Gillis of Middleboro, Charles E. Gillis of Rockland and William D. Gillis of Brockton; four sisters, Terri DiGiovanni of Cotuit, Patricia A. Willis, Rose M. Teixeira and Kathleen L. Genson, all of Middleboro; nephews and nieces. A sister, Grace F. Costa, predeceased him. He was born in Middleboro, son of James J. and Grace F. (Powers) Gillis Sr. He graduated from Middleboro High School, where he was an all-state athlete in football, wrestling and track and field. He also graduated from Yuba Community College in California.

Mr. Gillis was a car salesman at Early's on Park Avenue. He was a member of Kairos Prison Ministry and St. John's Church. He served as a eucharistic minister and a CCD teacher at Blessed Sacrament Church.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, Dec. 12, from O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Ave., with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. John's Church, 40 Temple St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity.

Dolores Gonsorcik, 83

BROOKFIELD -- Dolores G. "Dolly" Gonsorcik, 83, of 20 Devil's Elbow Road, a former spinner, died Thursday, Dec. 6, at Mary Lane Hospital, Ware.

Her husband was the late Lawrence L. Gonsorcik. She leaves nieces, including Frederica R. LaMonda of Brookfield, and nephews. A brother, Frederick S. LaMonda of Brookfield, died in 1998. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Alphonse and Josephine (Sullivan) Boratea, and lived in East Doulgas before moving to Brookfield in 1978. She lived for several years at Quaboag on the Common.

Mrs. Gonsorcik was a spinner at Hayward Schuster Woolen Mill in East Douglas. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Brookfield.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, in St. Mary's Church, 10 Lincoln St. Burial will follow in St. Dennis Cemetery, East Douglas. A calling period is 9 to 9:45 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, in Pillsbury Funeral Home, Old West Brookfield Road (Route 9). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity.

They leave their paternal grandparents, Ralph and Betty Harris of Clearwater, Fla.; and their maternal grandparents, June Berk of Valley Streams, N.Y., and Leonard Berk of Pelham, N.Y.

BELCHERTOWN -- Frank J. Kosiba Sr., 92, formerly of Belchertown, a veteran of World War II, died Thursday, Dec. 6, in Hampton, N.H.

His wife, Ruby M. (Poitras) Kosiba, died in 1997. He leaves a son, with whom he lived, Frank J. Kosiba Jr. of Kingston, N.H., formerly of Shrewsbury, Mass.; a sister; two grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. A brother and a sister predeceased him. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Mr. Kosiba worked for the state in the field service division of the Division of Employment Security in Springfield for 20 years, retiring in 1974. He attended St. Francis Church while in Belchertown.

The funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, from Beers & Story Funeral Home, 10 Maple St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Francis Church. Burial will be in South Cemetery. CHARLTON -- Anna C. Langlois, 83, of Hammond Hill Road, died Wednesday, December 5, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, Worcester, after an illness.

Her husband of 54 years, Ernest J. Langlois, died in 1996. She leaves a son, Ernest E. Langlois of Oxford; three daughters, Anna R. Pecore of Charlton, Theresa O. Motyka of Tewksbury and Rosemary A. Disley of Monson; a brother, Edward Gouin of Charlton; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; nephews and nieces. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Joseph and Albenia (Prunier) Gouin, and lived most of her life in Charlton.

Mrs. Langlois was a member of St. Joseph's Church.

The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, December 12, from Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 10 H. Putnam Road Extension. Burial will follow in New Notre Dame Cemetery, Woodstock Road, Southbridge. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, in the funeral home.

Albert N. LaRose, 81

MARLBORO -- Albert N. LaRose, 81, of Worcester, formerly of Marlboro, a retired sales representative and a veteran of World War II, died Thursday, Dec. 6, in the Hospice Residence, Worcester.

He leaves his wife of 56 years, Madeline (Peloquin) LaRose; four sons, Edward LaRose of Marlboro, Bert LaRose of Starks, Maine, George LaRose of Las Cruces, N.M., and Steven LaRose of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; a daughter, Susan Merck of Londonderry, N.H.; two brothers, Edmund LaRose of Framingham and Ernest LaRose of Oxford; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Two brothers, Leo and Raymond LaRose, and four sisters, Ora Charland, Ellen Kitchel, Celia Laplante and Albina Demaris, predeceased him. He was born in Oxford, son of George and Phoebe (Tessier) LaRose, and lived many years in Marlboro. He lived in Florida for a time before returning to Marlboro. He graduated from Lasellette Seminary High School, Hartford. He served three years in the Coast Guard during World War II.

Mr. LaRose was a sales representative for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., retiring in 1976. While in Florida, he was a security guard at Humana Hospital in Daytona, Fla. He enjoyed golfing, and scored four hole-in-one shots. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish and of Post 1590, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Daytona Beach.

The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, in Immaculate Conception Church, Prospect Street. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, in Slattery Funeral Home, 40 Pleasant St. Memorial contributions may be made to VNA Care Hospice Inc., 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608.
