Monday, November 26, 2001

CHARLTON -- Doris (Reed) Grimwade, 102, of 5 Brookfield Road, the town's oldest resident, died Friday, Nov. 23, in Harrington Memorial Hospital.

Her husband, Roger M. Grimwade, died in 1962. She leaves a son, R. Reed Grimwade of Charlton; two daughters, Barbara Meservey of Charlton and Anne Bodine of Sanibel Island, Fla.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Charles Reed Jr., predeceased her. She was born in Fall River, daughter of Charles and Margaret (Tucker) Reed, and moved to Charlton in 1923. She graduated from Wellesley College in 1920.

Mrs. Grimwade was a high school teacher in North Attleboro and Southboro. She was past president of the Charlton Visiting Nurses Association and the Harrington Hospital Auxiliary. She was a former golf champion at Cohasse Country Club and was the former table tennis champion of Worcester County.

A private graveside service will be held at the family's convenience. Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St., Southbridge, is in charge of arrangements.

Douglas R. Houghton II

WEBSTER -- Douglas R. Houghton II, 29, of 21 Lake St., an assistant manager, died Sunday, Dec. 2, at his home after a two-year struggle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

He leaves his mother, Doris (VanOrden) Houghton with whom he lived; his father, Douglas R. Houghton I, and stepmother, Norma L. Houghton, both of Tupper Lake, N.Y.; three sisters, Dawn M. Jacobs of Conventry, Conn., Cindy S. Gauthier of Brooklyn, Conn., and Darlene J. Selig of Dudley; his maternal grandparents, Donald and Norma VanOrden of Chepachet, R.I.; nephews and nieces. A brother, Kevin B. Houghton, and a sister, Kathlene M. Houghton, predeceased him. He was born in Providence, and had lived in Dudley and Webster for the past 26 years. He attended Shepard Hill Regional High School, Dudley.

Mr. Houghton was a manager in food service. He worked for the past seven years as an assistant manager at the Webster Papa Gino's, retiring due to disability in 1999. He enjoyed sports, motorcycles and playing the guitar.

A prayer service will be held at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, in the Bartel Funeral Home & Chapel, 33 Schofield Ave., Dudley. Following cremation, burial will be private. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Program of the Worcester Visiting Nurse Association, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA. 01608 or to the American Cancer Society, 7 Oak St., Worcester, MA 01609.

GARDNER -- Nathaniel J. Cramm, 3/4, of 234 Cross St., son of Allen E. Cramm of Winchendon and Michelle R. (Sandagon) Cramm of Gardner, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, at home.

He leaves a triplet brother, Alexander F. Cramm of Gardner; his maternal grandparents, M. Susan (Demir) Sandagon of Gardner and Marcos Sandagon of Cape May Courthouse, N.J.; his maternal great-grandmother, Geraldine Demir of Gardner; his paternal grandparents, Bruce and Sheila (Hawkins) Cramm of Winchendon; paternal great-grandparents, Fern Cramm of Gardner and Doris Hawkins of Holden, and Sulvin and Alice Hawkins of Lee High Acres, Fla. His other triplet sister, Katelyn F. Cramm, died in 1998.

Nathaniel lived in Winchendon and Gardner, and was a student at the Waterford Street School Preschool. He enjoyed music, art, and painting.

The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, in First Baptist Church, 14 High St. Interment will be in Greenbower cemetery at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, in Lamoureux-Fletcher Community Funeral Home, 105 Central St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nathaniel Jacob Cramm Memorial Fund, c/o GFA Federal Credit Union, 229 Parker St., Gardner, MA 01440.

UXBRIDGE -- Ruth E. (Jones) Davis, 81, of 437 East Hartford Ave., retired Uxbridge town clerk, died Thursday, Dec. 6, in Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital, Milford, after an illness.

Her husband, James J. Davis, died in 1974. She leaves three sons, J. Michael, John J. and P. Timothy Davis, all of Uxbridge; a brother, Richard Jones of Jensen Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; nephews and nieces. A daughter, Ruth S. Davis, died in 1970. Two brothers, Arthur and Robert Jones, also predeceased her. She was born in Uxbridge, daughter of Arthur and Irene (Fitzgerald) Jones, and lived here all her life.

Mrs. Davis was the town clerk for 20 years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of the Massachusetts Town Clerks Association. She was active in politics and a former member of the Democratic Women on Wheels. She was a member of St. Mary's Parish; a former member of the Council on Aging; a member and past president of Uxbridge American Legion Women's Auxiliary; a member of Uxbridge Women's Club; a former justice of the peace; and a former member of the Uxbridge Bloomer Girls basketball team, an organization that played for charity. She was listed in Who's Who in American Women. She enjoyed reading and vacationing on Cape Cod.

The funeral will be held Monday, Dec. 10, from Tancrell-Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Road, with a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 75 Mendon St. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o St. Mary's Church, 75 Mendon St., Uxbridge, MA 01569.

WEST BOYLSTON -- Lynn E. McGrath, 44, of 33 Bristol St., Worcester, formerly of West Boylston, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, Worcester, after being stricken ill at home.

She leaves two brothers, Albert P. McGrath of Brookfield and Robert P. McGrath of West Boylston; a sister, Robin McGrath-Crayton of Worcester; nephews and nieces; and her companion, Howard Tyndall III, with whom she lived. A brother, Stephen P. McGrath of Holden, died in 1993. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Phillip R. and Angelina J. (Belacki) McGrath, and graduated from West Boylston High School, where she was active in field hockey and tennis. She attended Quinsigamond Community College, Worcester, and earned a degree in special education from Fitchburg State College.

Ms. McGrath worked at Barbers Crossing, Worcester.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, from Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 1 West Boylston St., with a Mass at 9 a.m. in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 111 Worcester St. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, in the funeral home.

Joseph Aboody, 74

WORCESTER -- Joseph Aboody, 74, of 8 Hilton Ave., co-owner of El Morocco Restaurant, died Sunday, Dec. 2, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after being stricken ill at home.

He leaves two brothers, Paul Aboody Jr. and Richard Aboody, both of Worcester; three sisters, Marion Haddad, Naphie Samara and Grace Aboody, all of Worcester; nieces and nephews. A brother, John Aboody died in May, and a sister, Adele MacKoul, died in 1996. He graduated from Commerce High School. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Aboody co-owned and served as president of the El Morocco Restaurant, a family business, for more than 50 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, several Syrian-Lebanese organizations in Worcester, and the Heritage Society. He constructed many award-winning floats for Worcester parades. He also appeared in several full-length movies while living in Hollywood.

The funeral will be held Thursday, Dec. 6, from the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., with a service at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 256 Hamilton St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our lady of Perpetual Help Church, 256 Hamilton St. Worcester MA 01604.

Daniel C. Clem, 18

OXFORD -- Daniel C. Clem, 18, of Sneade Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 2, in Smithfield, R.I., from injuries suffered in a car accident.

He leaves his parents, Curtis W. and Wendy L. (Schofield) Clem of Oxford; a sister, Jennifer L. Clem of Oxford; his paternal grandmother, Inge Clem of Oxford; his maternal grandfather, Eldon Schofield of Leicester. He was born in Worcester and moved to Oxford eight years ago. He graduated from Oxford High School in 2001 and was currently attending the Community College of Rhode Island in Warwick on a full baseball scholarship.

Mr. Clem played Senior Babe Ruth baseball for the Paul N. Johnson All-Star Team in Worcester, which made the senior Babe Ruth World Series in 2000. He was listed in the "Who's Who Hall of Fame Book in Baseball," where he was one out of only 60 pitchers selected. This past summer, he was selected to play at Fenway Park for the Massachusetts All-Star Team. He played Ty Cobb Little League baseball in Worcester and Little League in Oxford. He was awarded the outstanding pitcher award in Senior Babe Ruth Baseball and was a member of the team that won the first World Series game for Worcester. He was a 2001 Telegram & Gazette Baseball All-Star. He was also a member of the basketball team for Oxford High School that won the Clark Tournament in 2000.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, in the First Congregational Church, 355 Main St. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, in Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oxford Athletic Program, c/o Oxford High School, 495 Main St., Oxford, MA 01540.

Robert E.L. Chabot, 65
Tuesday, December 11, 2001

SUN CITY, Calif., -- Robert E.L. Chabot, 65, of Sun City, formerly of Webster, Mass., a Korean War veteran, died Friday, Dec. 7, at his home.

He leaves his wife, Norma (Luzell) Chabot; two daughters, Pamela Porter in Idaho and Cynthia Gibbs in Washington; two sons, William Chabot of Dalton, Mass., and Robert Chabot in Missouri; his mother, Anna (Burbee) Chabot of Webster; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was born in Webster, son of Edward Chabot, and lived in Webster for 30 years. He lived in Chino for 13 years and Canyon Lake for three years before moving to Sun City. He had an associate's degree in mechanical engineering. He was a veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Chabot was a purchasing agent for Vandenburg Foods, Calif., for four years. He was a member of St Vincent's Church and the American Legion, and was a retired member of the View Finders Motorcycle Club.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, in St. Louis Church, 14 Lake St., Webster. After cremation, private burial will be Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Louis Church, 14 Lake St., Webster, MA 01570. Evans-Brown Sun City Mortuary, 27010 Encanto Drive, is directing arrangements.

Rita F. Gevry, 80
Monday, December 10, 2001

WEBSTER -- Rita F. (Oclatis) Gevry, 80, of 6 Prospect St., died Friday, Dec. 7, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus, Worcester, after a long illness.

Her husband of 51 years, Edward V. Gevry, died in 1993. She leaves two daughters, Carol R. Desrocher of Londonderry, N.H., and Lois M. Martin of Webster; a sister, Irene Bastardo of Worcester; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Anthony and Eva Oclatis, and lived in Webster for more than 60 years.

Mrs. Gevry worked as an office manager for Dr. David Gadreau at the Webster Vision Center, before retiring in 1985. She also worked for Dr. Martin Vajcovec.

The funeral service will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Robert J. Miller Funeral Home and Lake Chapel, 366 School St., is directing arrangements.

Brian L. Jolly, 52
Tuesday, December 11, 2001

WORCESTER -- Brian L. Jolly, 52, of 8 Cutting Ave., a water service inspector, died Sunday, Dec. 9, at UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus, after he was stricken ill.

His wife of 26 years, Carolyn M. (Cook) Jolly, died last year. He leaves two daughters, Jennifer L. Jalbert of Dudley and Jacquelyn M. Jolly of Brookfield; four brothers, William Scott of Epping, N.H., David and Keith Jolly, both of Worcester, and Gary Scott in Vermont; a sister, Darlene Scott in Vermont; a grandson; nephews and nieces. A brother, Robert Jolly, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of William and Lorna (Perks) Jolly. He earned his high school equivalency GED certification from Quinsigamond Community College. He was a graduate of the Citizens Police Academy.

Mr. Jolly was a water service inspector, and also had his own janitorial service for 20 years. He previously worked at Alden Electronics in Westboro, Briely-Lumbard Co. and Martin Wall Covering. He was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church, and he enjoyed antique cars.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, in St. John's Episcopal Church, 166 Holden St. Burial will be in All Faiths Cemetery. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, in Nordgren, Carrigan, Mangsen Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St.

WESTBORO -- A funeral service for Carl M. Allen, 108, of 1 Lyman St., a World War I veteran, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, in the Evangelical Congregational Church, West Main Street. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours.

Yvonne Anderson, 93

HAVERHILL, N.H. -- Yvonne M.F. (Desrosiers) Anderson, 93, of North Haverhill, died Nov. 30 in Grafton County Nursing Home, North Haverhill, after a brief illness.

Her husband of 15 years, Anders E. Anderson, died in 1994. She leaves three daughters, including Barbara Gummerus of Ashby, Mass.; two stepdaughters, Thelma Caouette of Ashburnham, Mass., and Dorothy Andreucci of Fitchburg, Mass.; two sons; a stepson; a sister; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Her first husband of 51 years, Max S. Fisher, died in 1975. A stepdaughter also predeceased her.

Mrs. Anderson worked for various companies in the Fitchburg area, including Burbank Hospital, Arrow Shirt and Fitchburg Yarn.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grafton County Home Association, 3855 Dartmouth College Highway, North Haverhill, NH 03774-4909. Constantine Baguskas; World War II veteran

BOYLSTON -- Constantine A. "Coste" Baguskas, 83, of 6 Intervale Road, a World War II veteran and a retired plant manager, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, in Salisbury Nursing Home, Worcester, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 57 years, Helen A. (Palonis) Baguskas; two sons, Roger A. Baguskas of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, and William J. Baguskas of Boylston; a daughter, Karen J. Nelson of Richmond, Va.; a brother, Eugene Baguskas of Philadelphia; a sister, Rita Maylott of Worcester; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A sister, Magdelene Dougherty of Flushing, N.Y., predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Constant and Magdalene (Waitele) Baguskas, and moved to Boylston 45 years ago. He graduated from Commerce High School, Worcester, and attended Navy schools. During World War II, he was an aviation machinist mate second class in Hawaii.

Mr. Baguskas was plant manager at Hobbs Fastener Co., retiring 16 years ago. He was a member of Harold Keith Post American Legion in West Boylston. He enjoyed gardening, landscaping, traveling and computers.

After cremation, a committal service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. Please omit flowers. Donations may be made to Boylston Library Foundation, 695 Main St., Boylston, MA 01505. Dirsa-Kazlauskas Funeral Home, 51 Providence St., is directing arrangements.
