Mary M. Gallant, 89
Monday, December 17, 2001

WEST BOYLSTON -- Mary M. (Kelleher) Gallant, 89, formerly of 49 Pleasant Valley Drive, Worcester, a retired hairdresser, died Saturday, Dec. 15, in Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center, after an illness.

Her husband of 28 years, Raymond J. Gallant, died in 1961. She leaves a son, Raymond J. Gallant of West Boylston; two daughters, Elizabeth A. Newcombe of Arlington and Eileen G. Brisebois of Brookfield; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was born in Worcester, daughter of John T. and Mary (Driscoll) Kelleher, and lived in Worcester for several years, before moving back to West Boylston. She graduated from Commerce High School, Worcester.

Mrs. Gallant worked at Worcester County National Bank, retiring in 1974. She was a hairdresser in Worcester. She was a member of St. Christopher's Church, and its Legion of Mary, a former member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, where she was the first president of the Women's Club. She was a CCD teacher and involved in other activities at both churches. She was a member of the Blue Army.

A funeral will be held Tuesday, Dec. 18, from Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 1 West Boylston St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 111 Worcester St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m Monday, Dec. 17, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity.

Anastasia Gatzogiannis
Sunday, December 16, 2001

WORCESTER -- Anastasia E. (Koukas) Gatzogiannis, 94, of 82 Sever St., died Friday, Dec. 14, at home after an illness.

Her husband of 65 years, Evangelos Gatzogiannis, died in 1993. She leaves three sons, Elias E. Gatzogiannis of North Grafton, Demitrios E. Gatzogiannis of Wells, Maine, and George E. Gatzogiannis of Hopkinton; three daughters, Vasiliki Kyros and Ourania Stratis, both of Worcester, and Eleftheria Bouris of Natick; a brother, Sotirios Koukas of Crete, Greece; two sisters, Efronsini Tsonis of North Dartmouth and Sophia Dalamagas of Athens, Greece; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A daughter, Hrisoula Gatzogiannis, died in 1949, a casualty of the Greek civil war. A grandson, Foto Stratis of Worcester, died in 1989. She was born in Lia, Epirus, Greece, daughter of Zekou and Vasiliki (Nassios) Koukas, and moved to the United States in 1955.

Mrs. Gatzogiannis was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral. She enjoyed traveling to Greece.

A funeral will be held Monday, Dec. 17, from O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Ave., with a service at 10 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell St. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Virgin Mary, Lia, Epirus, Greece, c/o Anastasia E. Gatzogiannis, 82 Sever St., Worcester, MA 01609.

GRAFTON -- The funeral for Donna M. (Frazier) Gemme, 45, of 28 Samson St., who died Friday, Dec. 14, at home, will be held Wednesday, Dec. 19, from the Misiaszek Funeral Home, 124 Main St., South Grafton, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. James Church, 89 Main St., South Grafton. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, in the funeral home.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, South Grafton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 220 North Main St., Natick, MA 01760.

She leaves her fiance, Mark Austin of Milbury; a daughter, Michelle L. Gemme of South Grafton; her mother, Theresa C. (Roy) Frazier of South Grafton; a brother, Robert Frazier of Bermuda Dunes, Calif.; nieces and nephews. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Robert Frazier, and lived her life in Grafton. She graduated from Grafton High School and attended Quinsigamond Community College for one year.

Mary George, 82; former restaurant owner

ST. CLOUD, Fla. -- Mary (Russo) George, 82, of 6436 Bonnie Court, formerly of Webster, Mass., a restaurant owner, died Sunday, Dec. 16, at home.

Her husband, George George, died in 1988. She leaves three sons, Charles George of Brewster, Mass., and Anthony "Blaze" George and Joseph George, both of Webster; a daughter, Lou Ann Zachara, with whom she lived; three sisters, Delta Scariglia of Dudley, Mass., Josephine Amaral of Fort Lauderdale and Margaret Matthews of Arizona; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A daughter, Theresa Pollette of Charlton, Mass., died in 1998. Five brothers, Alphonse, Luke, Jerry, Nick and Carvaio Russo, also predeceased her. She was born in Webster, daughter of Frank and Theresa (Suppie) Russo, and lived many years in Webster before moving here five years ago.

Mrs. George owned and operated Cozy Cottage Pizza House and Uncle Tannous Restaurant in Webster for 40 years, before moving to Florida. She was a member of St. Louis Church and the Sons of Italy.

The funeral will be held Thursday, Dec. 20, from Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School St., Webster, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Louis Church, 15 Lake St., Webster. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester, Mass. Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Louis Endowment Fund, 15 Lake St., Webster, MA 01570, or to the American Cancer Society, 7 Oak St., Worcester, MA 01609.

Joseph M. Gravison, 79
Saturday, December 15, 2001

SUTTON -- Joseph M. "Pete" Gravison, 79, of 113 Barnett Road, died Friday, Dec. 14, at home after being stricken ill.

He leaves his wife of 51 years, Dorothy M. (Wood) Gravison; two sons, David B. and Dana J. Gravison, both of Sutton; a daughter, Deborah A. Driscoll of Sutton; a brother, Jack Graveson of Uxbridge; four sisters, Germaine Bernier of Florida, Lillian Duclos of Sutton, and Theresa Goyette and Rachel Bergeron, both of Uxbridge; four grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. A brother, Edward L. "Butch" Graveson, and a sister, Marie R. Stanley, predeceased him. He was born in Franklin, N.H., son of Edward and Marie R. (Pellerin) Graveson, and lived 51 years in Sutton. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, and later served with the 101st Air National Guard in Worcester. He attended Tilton Prep School in New Hampshire and graduated from Sanford High School in Sanford, Maine.

Mr. Gravison owned and operated Joseph M. Gravison Plumbing and Heating in Sutton for 25 years, retiring in 1985. He was also involved with new home construction for several years in the area.

He was a plumbing inspector many years, and served on town recreation and finance committees. He volunteered at the Sutton Senior Center and was a former member of the Whitin Community Center in Whitinsville, where he enjoyed swimming. He spent summers on Martha's Vineyard and played golf. He was a member of St. Anne's Church in Manchaug. He owned and flew a plane out of Hopedale Airport.

The funeral will be held Monday, Dec. 17, from Tancrell-Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Road, Uxbridge, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Anne's Church, 27 Main St., Manchaug. Burial will be in South Sutton Cemetery. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, in the funeral home. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Elizabeth M. Grenier
Sunday, December 16, 2001

MILLBURY -- Elizabeth M. (Heck) Grenier, 89, of 163 Millbury Ave., died Thursday, Dec. 13, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus, Worcester.

Her husband, Joseph A. Grenier, died in 1956. She leaves a brother, Louis Heck of Shrewsbury; a sister, Ellen Clark of Sutton; nephews and nieces. She was born in New York, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Burger) Grenier. She came to Millbury to 1917 and lived there for 84 years. She graduated from Commerce High School and Salter's Secretarial School.

Mrs. Grenier worked in the wage administration department at Norton Co. for 22 years, retiring in 1977. She was a member of Christalephian Acclesia and was a former Sunday school teacher.

The funeral will be held at noon Monday, Dec. 17, in the Lindquist-Lundin Funeral Home, 36 Butler St., Worcester. Burial will be at Central Cemetery. Calling hours are 11 a.m. to noon Monday, Dec. 17, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christalephian Acclesia, 218 Greenwood St., Worcester, MA 01607.

Ellen N. Griffin, 81
Monday, December 17, 2001

UPTON -- Ellen N. (Aldrich) Griffin, 81, of 22 Fiske Ave., a retired assembler, died Sunday, Dec. 16, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after a short illness.

Her husband of 50 years, Robert A. Griffin, died in 1996. She leaves two daughters, Elizabeth Consigli of Upton and Patricia Rouba of Foxboro; and six grandchildren. Four brothers, George, Donald, Ernest and Francis Aldrich, predeceased her. She was born in Upton, daughter of George E. and Ruby H. (Jencks) Aldrich, and lived her entire life here. She graduated from Worcester Girls Trade School.

Mrs. Griffin worked as an assembler at several area manufacturing firms before retiring many years ago. Previously, she worked for the former Kartiganer Hat Co. She was a member and former deaconess of Upton Congregational Church and served on many church committees. She was a Brownie leader and an adviser for the church youth group. She was also a member of the Top of the Hill Gang and an avid supporter of school band activities in Upton.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, in the United Parish Church, Central Square. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, in Williams-Pedersen Funeral Home, 45 Main St. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of the United Parish of Upton, PO Box 382, Upton, MA 01568.

Phi Ha, 55
Sunday, December 16, 2001

WORCESTER -- Phi Ha, 55, of 48 Gibbs St., an assembler, died Friday, Dec. 14, in her home.

She leaves her husband, Thomas Huynh of New York; a son, Troung Huynh of Worcester; a daughter, Thui Huynh of Worcester; a brother, Nghia Ha of Worcester; two sisters, Phuong and Dund Ha, both of Worcester. She was born in Vietnam, daughter of Sem and An (Lee) Ha, and lived in Worcester for two years.

Mrs. Ha worked as an assembler.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, in Graham Putnam Mahoney Funeral Parlors, 838 Main St. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, in the funeral home. After cremation, burial will be private.

Mary Lou Hajdamowicz

WORCESTER -- Mary Lou (Mattimore) Hajdamowicz, of Worcester, a microbiologist, died Thursday, Dec. 13, at the UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus.

Her husband of 30 years, Kenneth J. Hajdamowicz, died in September 2000. She leaves several cousins. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Henry B. and Agnes M. (Norsigian) Mattimore. She graduated from Classical High School. She received bachelor's and master's degrees in microbiology from Anna Maria College.

Mrs. Hajdamowicz was currently a microbiology technician at St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center for 10 years. She previously was the director of quality control for the laboratories at the former Worcester City Hospital for 20 years. She was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church and a former union representative at National Association of Governmental Employees.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, Dec. 18, from Nordgren, Carrigan, Mangsen Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 23 Fales St. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, in the funeral home.

Dorothy Harlow, 83
Monday, December 17, 2001

HOPEDALE -- Dorothy (Harwood) Harlow, 83, of 53 Inman St., a longtime hospital volunteer, died Saturday, Dec. 15, in Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital after a short illness.

She leaves her husband of 59 years, George L. Harlow; a son, George L. Harlow Jr. of Houston; three daughters, Sally A. Harris of Medfield, Nancy J. Thompson of North Smithfield, R.I., and Jeanne Harlow of East Falmouth; a brother, Gilbert Harwood of Phoenix; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was born in the Whitinsville section of Northbridge, daughter of Gilbert and Sarah (Williamson) Harwood, and lived in Milford and Whitinsville before moving to Hopedale in 1946. She graduated from Northbridge High School.

Mrs. Harlow served 40 years as a volunteer at Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital, where she was instrumental in the formation of the hospital's Volunteer Services Department. She was a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart Church and past president of the Hopedale Women's Club. She was an avid dancer.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 19, from the Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, 44 Congress St., Milford, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 187 Hopedale St. Burial will follow in Vernon Grove Cemetery, Milford. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Warren E. Hughes, 85
Sunday, December 16, 2001

HOLDEN -- Warren E. Hughes, 85, of 96 Bailey Road, veteran of World War II, died Friday, Dec. 14, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 56 years, Vivian D. (Flynn) Hughes; two sons, Richard F. and Brian E. Hughes, both of Holden; and three grandchildren. Three brothers, Roland, Earl and Harold Hughes, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Arthur G. and Ethel I. (Strom) Hughes, and lived 49 years in Holden. He spent many winters in Dunedin, Fla. He was a World War II Army veteran. He served in Europe and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

Mr. Hughes was a tool and die maker at Reed Rolled Thread & Die Co., which is now Reed Rico, for 35 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of Greendale People's Church, Worcester, and the former Veterans of Foreign Wars Post of Holden.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, in Greendale People's Church, 25 Francis St., Worcester. Burial will be private in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Greendale People's Church, 25 Francis St., Worcester, MA 01606.

Ruth L. Hurd, 76

GARDNER -- Ruth L. (Packard) Hurd, 76, of 395 Pearl St., a former nurse, died Sunday, Dec. 16, at home after an illness.

She leaves her husband, Roy E, Hurd; three sons, Arno E. Hurd of Auburn, Charles E. Hurd of Woodstock, Conn., and Stephen R. Hurd of Westminster; nine daughters, Kathy A. Wentworth of Somerville, Barbara A. Cernobyl of Dover, Del., Susan Hurd of Cranston, R.I., Pamela J. Nordman of Omaha, Neb., Donna M. Hurd of Everett, Patricia F. Hurd of Westminster, Mary E. Kinder of Panama City, Fla., Martha S. Hurd of Fitchburg and Sandra L. Clark of Addison, Vt.; a brother, Charles N. Packard of Ashburnham; four sisters, Arlene Hart of Gardner, Evelyn Matthews of Westfield, Margaret Hart of Ashburnham and Marjorie Pandiscio of Rutland; 20 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Henry Packard and Percy A. Packard, and two sisters, Rachel Mickola-Wiswell and Blanche Binnall, predeceased her. She was born in Ashburnham, daughter of Nelson A. and Alfreda (Rosbury) Packard, and lived 54 years in Westminster before moving to Gardner five years ago. She graduated from Cushing Academy in 1943 and from the Heywood Hospital School of Nursing in 1946.

Mrs. Hurd was a registered nurse at Heywood Hospital, where she worked as a night supervisor for many years. She also worked as a private-duty nurse. She was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Church, Westminster and a former member of the Heywood Hospital Nurses Alumni Association.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, Dec. 19, from John H. Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Edward the Confessor Church, 10 Church St., Westminster. Burial will be in Woodside Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701, or to the American Diabetes Association, 1 Bromfield St., Boston, MA 02108.

She leaves a daughter, Michelle L. Jemme of South Grafton; her mother, Theresa C. (Roy) Frazier of South Grafton; a brother, Robert Frazier of Bermuda Dunes, Calif.; nieces and nephews. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Robert Frazier, and lived her life in Grafton. She graduated from Grafton High School. She attended Quinsigamond Community College for one year.
