Walter N. Jette, 85; World War II veteran
Tuesday, December 18, 2001

WORCESTER -- Walter N. Jette, 85, of 2 Fraternal Ave., a World War II veteran, died Sunday, Dec. 16, at home after an illness.

His wife of 57 years, Catherine C. (Cummins) Jette, died in 1996. He leaves two sons, Walter F. Jette of Portsmouth, N.H., and Paul A. Jette of Worcester; a daughter, Celianne Ammar of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. He was born in Worcester, son of Arthur and Ida (Gauthier) Jette. He graduated from Commerce High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II, earning a Purple Heart while serving in Germany.

Mr. Jette worked 12 years at Astra Pharmaceutical Co., retiring in 1983. Previously, he worked 33 years as a wool carding machine setter at Howard Brothers, Worcester. He was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church.

A funeral will be held Thursday, Dec. 20, from Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 25 Fales St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, PO Box 4777, New York, N.Y. 10163.

Joseph O. Johnson, 69
Monday, December 17, 2001

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- Joseph O. Johnson, 69, of Clarendon Road, formerly of Worcester, a recipient of the Purple Heart, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, in Uniondale, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 28 years, Ella (Singelton) Johnson; a son, Daryl Johnson of Adana, Turkey; two daughters, Robin Snead of Washington, D.C., and Jackie Taylor of St. Louis; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A son, Joseph Johnson, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of William and Josephine (English) Johnson, and moved to Queens. in the late 1940s. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Queens. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and received the Purple Heart.

Mr. Johnson worked for the U.S. Postal Service for many years before retiring. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of Jackson Memorial AME Zion Church, served on their board of stewards for 14 years and was a member of the senior usher board.

The funeral service and burial were held in New York. Caswell-King Funeral Home, 474 Grove St., Worcester, directed local arrangements.

Anita M. Kelly, 76
Monday, December 17, 2001

MIDDLEBORO -- Anita M. (Anderson) Kelly, 76, died Saturday, Dec. 15, in the Atrium Nursing Home.

She leaves her husband, William J. Kelly; a son, Donald C. Kelly of Marlboro; her mother; a brother; a sister; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Kelly worked as an electronics technician for Hazeltine Co., retiring in 1989.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, from Egger Funeral Home, 61 Pearl St., Middleboro, with a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Centre Street. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Irene L. Laasberg, 80
Saturday, December 15, 2001

WORCESTER -- Irene L. (Kamradsius) Laasberg, 80, of 380 Sunderland Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus.

She leaves her husband, Lembit H. Laasberg. She was born in Kuressaare, Estonia, daughter of Johan and Amilde (Fried) Kamradsius, and lived many years in Westboro and six months in Worcester. She graduated from Tartu Tutarlaste Jumnaasium in Estonia and attended the University of Tartu in Estonia.

Mrs. Laasberg was a bookkeeper for 15 years at Harris Co., retiring 23 years ago.

She helped establish Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manchester, Conn. She was a member of the Estonian Girl Scouts and the Estonian Society, both in Boston.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, in Nordgren, Carrigan Mangsen Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. Burial will be at a later date in All Faiths Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

Florence L. LaGrenade
Tuesday, December 18, 2001

OXFORD -- Florence L. (Welch) LaGrenade, 80, of Providence Street, Worcester, formerly of North Oxford, a retired assembler, died Monday, Dec. 17, in Providence Extended Care Center, Worcester, after an illness.

Her husband, Ernest N. LaGrenade of North Oxford, died in 1994. She leaves a daughter, Barbara Donahue of Putnam; a brother, George Welch of Rock Falls, Ill.; nephews and nieces. A brother, Louis Welch of Worcester, and a sister, Gladys LaPerle of Worcester, predeceased him. She was born in Keene, N. H., daughter of Louis A. and Dora L. (Burno) Welch, and lived in Worcester for many years, and in Brattleboro, Vt., for several years. She also lived in North Oxford for eighteen years, before moving to Worcester in 1999. She graduated from Roxbury High School in 1939.

Mrs. LaGrenade was an assembler at Parker Manufacturing in Worcester for many years, retiring in 1984. Previously, she was a shoemaker at S.G.S. Footware Company in Worcester. She was a former member of St. Ann's Church in North Oxford.

Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701. Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oxford, is directing the arrangements.

Raymond Lantinen Sr.
Sunday, December 16, 2001

BREWSTER -- Raymond J. Lantinen Sr., 89, of 56 Robinson Road, formerly of Paxton, owned a tool and die company, died Friday, Dec. 14, in Pleasant Bay Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

He leaves his wife of 65 years, Martha H. (McGovern) Lantinen; a son, Raymond J. Lantinen of East Dennis; a daughter, Marsha E. Halloran of Brewster; a brother, Albert Lantinen of Worcester; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. Five sisters and a brother, predeceased him. He was born in Paxton, son of Gustav and Elizabeth Lantinen, and has lived in Brewster since 1984. He graduated from David Prouty High School in 1930.

Mr. Lantinen was a tool and die maker. He owned Gra-Lan Tool & Die Co., Worcester, for 50 years, retiring in 1981. He was life time member of First Congregational Church of Paxton. He was a member, past secretary and past treasurer of the Sons of Paxton. He was a member of Brewster Men's Club.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, in the Nordgren, Carrigan, Mangsen Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A calling hour is noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Congregation Church of Paxton, 1 Church St., Paxton, MA 01612.

Donald A. Laperle, 71
Sunday, December 16, 2001

SOUTHBRIDGE -- Donald A. Laperle, 71, of Kingsley Street, a Korean War veteran, died Thursday, Dec. 13, at home after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 20 years, Patricia J. (Karr) Laperle; four sons, David A. Laperle of Pennsylvania, Robert A. Laperle of Ashland, Mark Laperle of Madison, Va., and Donald A. Laperle Jr. of Gorham, N.H.; two daughters, Denise A. Williams of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Barbara Wlodyka of Hopkinton; a stepson, Lee D. Perloff of Marlboro; a brother, Norman Laperle of Sun City West, Ariz.; and a sister, Janice Laperle of Worcester. A brother, Robert E. Laperle, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Albert J. and Estelle (Gentesse) Laperle, and graduated from Holy Name High School. He lived 16 years in Hopkinton before moving to Southbridge three years ago. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and served 20 years in the Army Reserve.

Mr. Laperle worked as a draftsman for GTE in Needham. After retiring, he worked as an independent contractor in that field. He was a member of Ashland Post 2331 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Senior Men's Bowling League of Auburn. He was a volunteer chaplain for Transport for Christ, Shrewsbury.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, in the Faith Assembly of God Church, corner of Nelson and Lincoln Streets, Webster. Burial with military honors will be in Agawam National Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Transport for Christ, c/o the Massachusetts Chapel, PO Box 303, Denver, PA 17517, or to the Salvation Army, 147 Berkeley St., Boston, MA 02116. Belanger-Bullard Funeral Home, 51 Marcy St., Southbridge, is directing arrangements.

Marjorie E. Lee, 94
Sunday, December 16, 2001

GRAFTON -- Marjorie E. (Parker) Lee, 94, formerly of Sartell Road, Grafton Center, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, in Southgate at Shrewsbury.

Her husband, Robert E. Lee, died in 1988. She leaves a caregiver, Kleber M. Campbell III of Paxton. She was born in Cambridge, daughter of Carl R. and Jessie E. (Merill) Parker. She lived in Grafton for more than 50 years and moved to Southgate several years ago.

Mrs. Lee was an active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in North Grafton serving on many boards and committees. She was also a former president of The Grafton Garden Club and former chairman of the American Red Cross Blood Donor Program in Grafton.

After cremation, a graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, in Riverside Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 53 North Main St., North Grafton MA 01536. The Robert C. Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester St., North Grafton, is directing arrangements.

George A. Lundin, 83
Sunday, December 16, 2001

WORCESTER -- George A. Lundin, 83, of 46 Butler St., a World War II veteran, died Friday, Dec. 14, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center.

He leaves his wife of 53 years, Claire T. (Contois) Lundin; and many nephews and nieces. Three brothers, Arthur Lundin of Worcester, Paul Lundin of Buffalo, N.Y., and Walter Lundin of Auburn, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of William and Clara E. (Lindquist) Lundin. He was an Army veteran of World War II and fought in the invasion of Okinawa. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

Mr. Lundin was a tool maker at Leland & Gifford, Worcester, and George Meyer Co., West Boylston, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Southworks Post Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member and the last surviving charter member of 200 Sportman's Club, Webster.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18 in the Lindquist-Lundin Funeral Home, 36 Butler St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, in the funeral home.

Wilma C. Mack, 81
Tuesday, December 18, 2001

EXETER, N.H. -- Wilma C. "Billie" (Krantz) Mack, 81, of Exeter, formerly of Clinton and Sterling, Mass., died Saturday, Dec. 15, in Exeter Health Care after an illness.

Her husband, Orvo Mack, died in 1976. She leaves three sons, Peter Mack of Homestead, Fla., Jon Mack of Sterling and William Mack of Kingston; three brothers, Albert Krantz of Brainard, Maine, Ralph Krantz of Charlton, Mass., and Robert Krantz of Bridgeport, Maine; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Clinton, daughter of Gilbert and Elsie (Keiger) Krantz, and lived most of her life in Clinton. She graduated from Clinton High School.

Mrs. Mack worked at F.J. Kirk Molding, Clinton, and later at Meadow Brook Orchards, Sterling, before retiring. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Clinton, and the Sterling Historical Society.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, in Trinity Lutheran Church, 117 Chace St., Clinton. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, in James E. Watson Funeral Home, 149 Water St., Clinton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 117 Chace St., Clinton, MA 01510.

Rita E. Marquis, 84
Tuesday, December 18, 2001

DUDLEY -- Rita E. (Morin) Marquis, 84, formerly of Joshua Place, died Monday, Dec. 17, in Lanessa Healthcare, 752 School St., Webster, after a long illness.

Her husband, Simeon Marquis, died in 1970. She leaves a son, Richard Marquis of Bessemer City, N.C.; a brother, Leo "Robert" Morin of Putnam; three sisters, Jeanette Ducharme of Danielson, Conn., Florence LaRoche of North Grosvenordale and Lucille Gilbert of Largo, Fla.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A son, Stuart Marquis of Florida, died in July. She was born in North Grosvenordale, daughter of Joseph and Alice (Fournier) Morin, and lived many years in the Webster-Dudley area.

Mrs. Marquis was a shoe worker for Webster Shoe and Bentley Shoe, retiring in 1963. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church and the Joshua Place Tenants Association.

The funeral will be held Thursday, Dec. 20, from Bartel Funeral Home & Chapel, 33 Schofield Ave., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 24 Dudley Road. After cremation, burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Webster. A calling hour will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony of Padua Church, PO Box 277, Dudley, MA 01571.

Gregory F. Maxwell, 55
Saturday, December 15, 2001

EL PASO, Texas -- Gregory F. Maxwell, 55, of 40716 Haynes Road, formerly of Fitchburg, Mass., died Tuesday, Nov. 27, at home.

He leaves two brothers, Stephen L. Maxwell of Lunenburg, Mass., and Douglas E.T. Maxwell of Winchendon, Mass.; nephews and nieces. He was born in Fitchburg, son of Harry L. and Marcia (Hancock) Maxwell, and lived in Missouri before moving to El Paso several months ago. He studied journalism in Missouri.

The funeral service will be private. There are no calling hours. Donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. Fletcher-Hebert Funeral Home, 70 Pleasant St., Winchendon, is directing arrangements.

Virginia A. Maylott, 80
Tuesday, December 18, 2001

WORCESTER -- Virginia A. (Leboda) Maylott, 80, formerly of Indian Lake Parkway, died Saturday, Dec. 15, in The Providence Extended Care Facility, after an illness.

Her husband, Everett Maylott, died in 1969. She leaves a daughter, Lynn Keefe of Worcester; a brother, Henry Leboda of Burlington; three sisters Dorothy Ambrose of Long Island, N.Y., Mary-Ann O'Loughlin of Worcester and Catherine McCarthy of Oxford; two grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A daughter, Jacqueline Maylott of Worcester died in 1994. Two brothers, Stanley Leboda of Worcester and Edward Leboda of Leicester, and a sister Genevieve Gaynor-Maznick of Leicester, predeceased her. She was born in Holden, daughter of Wawrzyniec and Aniela (Klutka) Leboda and lived in Worcester for most of her life. She also lived in Leicester.

Mrs. Leboda worked at Astra Pharmaceutical Co. for 30 years and retired in 1980. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.

The funeral service will be private. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Hammond St., is directing arrangements.
