WORCESTER -- Marion I. (McFadyen) Giguere, 91, of the St. Francis Home, formerly of 415 Mill St., died Tuesday, Jan. 29, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus.

Her husband, Roland A. Giguere, died in 1983. She leaves two sons, Richard F. Giguere of Worcester and Robert E. Giguere, with whom she lived; two daughters, Barbara L. Hogan and Marilyn Morgan, both of Worcester; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A grandchild predeceased her. She was born in Shrewsbury, daughter of Samuel and Nora (O'Connell) McFadyen. She graduated from Commerce High School and from Becker Junior College, both in Worcester.

Mrs. Giguere worked at her son's business, Robert's Hairstyling, retiring several years ago. She previously worked for the March of Dimes, the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society. She had also worked at O and J Machine Co., and was a bookkeeper at Brockelman Brothers Worcester Market. She was past president of the Oxford Street School Parent-Teacher Association in Worcester.

The funeral will be held Friday, Feb. 1, from Fay Brothers Funeral Home, 9 Hammond St,. with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 341 June St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

Stella M. Grabierz, 73
Sunday, February 03, 2002

STERLING -- Stella M. Grabierz, 73, formerly of Sterling, died Friday, Feb. 1, at Keystone Center, Leominster.

She leaves a sister, Sophia C. Markiewicz of West Boylston; nieces and nephews. Two brothers, John Grabierz and Benjamin Grabierz, predeceased her. She was born in Springfield, daughter of Martin and Eva (Gradowicz) Grabierz.

Ms. Grabierz worked for the Van Brode Milling Co. She was a member of St. Richard's Church of Chichester. She volunteered with Sterling Senior Center where she received several awards. She enjoyed knitting and crochet.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, in Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road. A calling hour is 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, in the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Sterling Senior Center, Park Street, Sterling, MA 01564.

Laurent R. Grenier, 71

SHREWSBURY -- Laurent R. "Larry" Grenier, 71, of 97 Spring St., a building contractor, died Friday, Feb. 1, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, Worcester, after being stricken ill earlier in the day.

He leaves his wife of 48 years, Irene E. (Foisy) Grenier; four sons, Robert L. Grenier of Islamabad, Pakistan, Joseph R. Grenier of Shrewsbury, Richard J. Grenier of Germantown, Md., and John M. Grenier of Boston; three daughters, Laureen M. Grenier of Barre, Marie I. Levasseur of Worcester and Anne E. Bastarache of Shrewsbury; a brother, Richard J. Grenier of Sunnyvale, Calif.; four sisters, Jeannette Foisy, Lorraine Sellarole and Yvonne Poncini, all of San Jose, Calif., and Jeanne O'Brien of Cupertino, Calif.; nine grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Auburn, son of Joseph C. and Annette (Lachapelle) Grenier and lived in Shrewsbury for many years. He graduated from Holy Name High School, Worcester.

Mr. Grenier owned and operated Grenier Construction Co., Shrewsbury, which he founded 40 years ago, until his recent retirement. He was a member of St. Mary's Parish in Shrewsbury. An avid golfer and tennis player, he belonged to the Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton and the Mass. Health and Fitness Center in Shrewsbury.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 6, from Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 640 Main St. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

G. Patricia Grenon, 66
Monday, January 28, 2002

WEBSTER -- G. Patricia (Moore) Grenon, 66, of 182 Kildeer Road, and 1509 West Schwartz Blvd., Lady Lake, Fla., died Saturday, Jan. 26, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center.

She leaves her husband of 45 years, Gene J. Grenon; a daughter, Linda M. Gosselin of Millbury; two sons, Larry E. and Steven C. Grenon, both of Webster; seven brothers, James G. Moore of Melbourne, Fla., Franklin D. Moore of Sarasota, Fla., Edmund K. Moore of Rand, Calif., Roger A. Moore of South Abington, John T. and Paul C. Moore, both of Gardner, and G. David Moore of Westminster; two sisters, Phyllis F. Maki of Westminster and Dorothy F. Wilson of North Woodstock, N.H.; three grandchildren; nephews and nieces; grandnephews and grandnieces. A brother, Curtis W. Moore, died while serving in Vietnam in 1971. She was born in Renovo, Pa., daughter of Harry C. and Ellen C. (Lind) Moore, and graduated from Gardner High School in 1953.

Mrs. Grenon was a teller at the former Consumer Savings Bank in Worcester, retiring in 1984.

She was a member of the Killdeer Island Club, and enjoyed gardening, quilt making, and golf.

The funeral service will be held at noon Wednesday, Jan. 30, in Scanlon Funeral Service, East Main Street. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, in the funeral home.

Eleanor V. Groden

WORCESTER -- Eleanor V. (Arthur) Groden, of Worcester, was stricken ill and died Monday, Feb. 4, in her home.

Her husband, Edward W. "Red" Groden, died in 1990. She leaves two daughters, Linda G. Duclos of Worcester and Pamela E. Alvarez of Harwington, Conn.; four granddaughters; a grandson; a niece and a nephew. A brother, James Arthur, predeceased her. She was born in Worcester, daughter of James and Erminia (Upham) Arthur. She graduated from Commerce High School.

Mrs. Groden worked in the offices of the Mellville Shoe Co. for many years. She later was a crossing guard for the former West Boylston Street School. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, where she taught religious education to children. She was a volunteer at St. Vincent Hospital and a member of its Guild of Our Lady of Providence. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and dancing.

The funeral will be held Thursday, Feb. 7, from Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., with a Mass at 11 a.m in Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove St. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

Edwin F. Gronlund, 95

AUBURN -- Edwin F. Gronlund, 95, of 11 Oak St., a retired pattern maker, died Sunday, Jan. 27, in Providence Extended Care Center, Worcester, after an illness.

His wife, Julina D. (Soderlund) Gronlund, died in 1993. He leaves a nephew, Russell E. Stromberg of Auburn; a niece, Edna Wydick of Auburn; and two grandnieces. He was born in Springfield, son of Frank O. and Lena (Showblad) Gronlund, and lived in Finland before returning to the United States in his 20s. He lived more than 65 years in Auburn. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School, Worcester.

Mr. Gronlund was a pattern maker for Standard Foundry, Worcester, retiring in 1972. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and was involved in many of its groups.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, in Bethel Lutheran Church, 90 Bryn Mawr Ave. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours are 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, in Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church, Memorial Fund, 90 Bryn Mawr Ave., Auburn, MA 01501.

Robert E. Harrell, 81
Thursday, January 31, 2002

HOLLAND -- Robert E. Harrell, 81, formerly of 14 Craig Road, a longtime mechanic, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, in Palmer House, Palmer.

His wife, Burka H. (Parron) Harrell, died in 1989. He leaves four sons, Ronald Harrell of Springfield, and Robert E. Harrell Jr., Kenneth Harrell and Clyde Harrell, all of Holland; a daughter, Judith Beaudry of Southbridge; a brother, Douglas Harrell in North Carolina; a sister, Ollie Harrell in North Carolina; his longtime companion, Dorothy Parron of Holland; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A son, Richard Harrell of Palmer, died in 2000. He was born in Bertie County, N.C., son of Clyde E. and Tessie E. Harrell, and lived in Springfield before moving to Holland 38 years ago.

Mr. Harrell was a mechanic at Mutual Ford of Springfield for 30 years, retiring in the late 1970s. He later worked at Hebert Candies in Sturbridge for five years.

The funeral, with military honors, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, in Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy St., Southbridge. Burial will be in Holland Cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Palmer House Alzheimer's Center, 250 Shearer St., Palmer, MA 01069.

Beatrice Hedblom, 89

FITCHBURG -- Beatrice A. (Dignam) Hedblom, 89, of 350 Water St., formerly of 96 Mechanic St., died Sunday, Jan. 27, at the Fairlawn Nursing Home, Leominster, after an illness.

Her husband, Einar "Ernie" Hedblom, died in 1992. She leaves a daughter, Charlotte Anderson of Fitchburg; two brothers, Joseph E. Dignam of Port Charlotte, Fla. and Frank Dignam of Leominster; two sisters, Beverly DeLisle of Parksley, Va. and Pauline Dowd of Fairfax, Va., four grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A brother, George Dignam, predeceased her. She was born in Lawrence, daughter of Frank and Margaret V. (Ellis) Dignam. She attended Fitchburg Schools.

Mrs. Hedblom is a longtime member of the Pilgram Covenant Church in Lunenburg.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the Fitchburg chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 129 Elm St. A calling period is 9:30 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery, 115 Mt. Elam Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Association, 720 Harrison Ave., Boston, MA 02118.

Kurt M. Hertzfeld, 57

PUTNAM -- Kurt M. Hertzfeld Jr., 57, of 49 Mechanics St., died Sunday, Jan. 27, at home.

He leaves his wife, Patricia (Bourke) Hertzfeld; his father, Kurt Hertzfeld of Amherst; a daughter, Mary King of Fort Myers, Fla.; a son, Elon C. Hertzfeld of Putnam; a step-mother, Dorothy Wiesner Hertzfeld of Amherst; three sisters, Elizabeth Hertzfeld of Strafford, N.H., Anne Drapalski of Longmeadow and Susan Rice of Andover; two stepsisters, Nicole Wiesner of Mobley, N.Y. and Hillary Wiesner of Paris; four grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Detroit, son of Nora (Alfs) Hertzfeld. He received his BA from Hobart and William Smith College in Geneva, N.Y. and earned his MBA from UMass, Amherst. He was an Army veteran of Vietnam.

Mr. Hertzfeld was information technology director for human resources at the UMass Memorial Medical Center, Worcester. He had formerly worked at the UConn Extension Service in Storrs, Conn., as well as the UMass Amherst College of Agriculture. He was a member of the Pomfret Rod and Gun Club, the Sarasota Trap and Skeet Club and the Windham 4-H Club. He enjoyed repairing clocks and was a member of the National Association of Clock and Watch Collectors. He also enjoyed model railroading and was a member of the Trains Collectors Association. He enjoyed boating. He was a member of Saint Mary Church.

The funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, in Saint Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence St. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, in the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Long Island Soundkeeper Fund, Inc., P.O. Box 4058, Norwalk CT 06855.

Harry L. Jolly, 87

OXFORD -- Harry L. Jolly, 87, of Oxford, a World War II veteran and a retired business owner and operator, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- Memorial Campus, Worcester, after a long illness.

His wife of 54 years, Pearl E. (King) Jolly, died in 1992. He leaves a daughter, Judith Ann Howard of Schoharie, N.Y.; a sister, Eva White of Florida; two grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Two brothers, Joseph Jolly of Mexico and Leo Jolly of Texas, predeceased him. He was born in Oxford, son of Adelard and Louise (Lamoreux) Jolly, and graduated from Oxford High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a technician fifth grade.

Mr. Jolly owned and operated Jolly's Esso Station, Webster, for more than 60 years before retiring. He was a board member of Oxford Housing for the Elderly and a member of Oxford Senior Center and St. Roch's Church.

The graveside service will be held at a later date in St. Roch's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity. Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., is directing arrangements.
