JAMES M. DEWITT SR.
OAKLAND - James M. DeWitt Sr., 69, of White Church-Steyer Road, Oakland, died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at his home.
Born May 3, 1928, in Deer Park, he was the son of the late Gilmore and Linna (Waters) DeWitt.
Mr. Dewitt was a retired concrete foreman for the W.P. Donaldson and Sons Co., Hyattsville. He was a member of the Lakeside Assembly of God Church and a former member of the Colesville Lions Club. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby M. (Otto) DeWitt; two sons, James M. DeWitt Jr., Bowie, and Randall E. DeWitt Sr., Hughesville; six sisters, Martha Peabody, Princeton, N.J., Irene Gibson, Silver Spring, Anna Mae Cannon, Deer Park, Joanne Cupp, Martinsburg, W.Va., Dixie Lee Wardrop and Linnie Krisman, both of Frederick; one brother, Elwood DeWitt, Interlachen, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Lakeside Assembly of God Church on Tuesday, May 7, 1998, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Shank officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.
Interment will be in the Deer Park cemetery. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the various veterans organizations in southern Garrett County.

WILLIAM J. EVANS SR.
CUMBERLAND - William J. Evans Sr., 72, of Cumberland, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born July 4, 1926, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late William D. and Emily (Bolbach) Evans. He also was preceded in death by one sister, Jane Evans.
Mr. Evans retired from the S.T. Little Jewelry Store when it closed in 1986. For the past 12 years, he was a self-employed watch and clock repairman. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Evans was a Protestant by faith and was a certified horologist and member of the American Watchmakers and Clockmakers Institute.
Surviving are his wife, Rosemary (Leo) Evans; three sons, William J. Evans Jr., Richard F. Evans and wife Linda, all of Marriottsville, and Martin A. Evans and Kim, Cumberland; one daughter, Nancy M. Evans, Towson; two brothers, Ray Evans and wife Betty, Cumberland, and Bob Evans and wife Evelyn, Beverly, Mass.; five grandchildren, Ashley, Courtney, Daniel, Kyle and Adam; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Jewell officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap, Flintstone.
ROBERT T. CUTHBERTSON
LONACONING - Robert T. Cuthbertson, 83, of Colonial East, Rehoboth Beach, Del., former resident of Lonaconing, and Baltimore, died March 13, 1998, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born June 17, 1914 in Lonaconing, he was the son of the late David T. and Nellie (Todd) Cuthbertson.
Mr. Cuthbertson was a veteran of Army 501st Engineer Corps of World War II from 1941 to 1946, serving also in the European Theater. He was a former employee of Pontiac Motors, Michigan; National Brewery, Baltimore and Detective Agency, Baltimore. He was Presbyterian by faith.
Surviving are three sisters, Margaret Grindle, Lonaconing; Norma Lilly, Colonial East, Rehoboth Beach, and Nellie Rogers, South Gate, Mich., and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, Sunday, March 15, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home Monday, March 16, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Mortimore officiating. Interment will be in Laurel Hill cemetery, Moscow Mills.
OCIE B. DEWITT
OAKLAND - Ocie B. DeWitt, age 86, of Oakland, died on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital in Oakland.
She was born in Oakland on Jan. 27, 1912, and was a daughter of the late John and Etta Saucer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert C. DeWitt Sr.
Surviving are five sons, Harold DeWitt, Oakland, Clyde DeWitt, Oakland, Richard DeWitt, Mountain Lake Park, Milton C. DeWitt, Mountain Lake Park, and Albert DeWitt Jr., Oakland; three daughters, Dorothy Uphold, Oakland, Clara Mae Artice, Oakland, and Donna Bowman, Mountain Lake Park; 40 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Greg Cummings and the Rev. Roger Zimmerman officiating.
Interment will be in the Gortner cemetery.
HARLENE A. BRADEN
GRANTSVILLE - Harlene A. Braden, 92, of Grantsville, died Saturday, June 20, 1998, at Goodwill Mennonite Home.
Born May 28, 1906, in Bittinger, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Wilson and Mary Catherine (Hetrick) Bittinger. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin L. Braden.
Survivors include two sons, Bruce B. Braden, Sarasota, Fla., Karl W. Braden, Winston-Salem, N.C.; a daughter, Bonnie Braden Ramer, Grantsville; a brother, Kermit Bittinger, Cumberland; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Paul H. Yoder officiating.
Interment will be in Maple Grove cemetery.
HAROLD "THE COLONEL" EVERLINE
LAVALE - Harold S. "The Colonel" Everline, 94, of LaVale, died Friday, April 3, 1998, at his home.
Born on April 6, 1903, in Corriganville, he was the son of the late Daniel and Bertha (Lodgson) Everline.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret (Barnett) Everline in 1950, and second wife, Elma (Shipway) Everline, in 1984; a son, Philip Everline, on April 19, 1997; and a grandson, Jeffrey Martz.
Mr. Everline was a 49-year charter member of the LaVale Lions Club and had received the Melvin Jones award, the highest award given to a Lion, and he was instrumental in developing the Lions Chicken Barbecue. A member of the Potomac Lodge #100 A.F. & A.M., and a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite, and the Ali Ghan Shrine Club Motor Corp, a member of St. Mark's United Church of Christ and was very active for a number of years, and was self employed in the heating and plumbing business.
He is survived by two daughters, Joyce Mack and friend, Berl Amsler, Elyria, Ohio, and Mary Troutman and husband, Harvey, Wichita Falls, Texas; three sons, Lewis Everline and wife, Linda, Mahnton, Pa., Robert Everline and wife, Barbara, Huntsville, Texas, and Charles Everline and wife, Diane, Palmyra, Va.; one brother, Paul Everline and wife, Mary, Winchester, Va.; 15 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received in the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Monday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. George Harpold officiating, and with the Rev. Lewis Everline assisting. Following the services Mr. Everline will be cremated.
Inurnment will be in the Fairview Christian cemetery, Inglesmith, Pa., at a later date.
Potomac Lodge #100 A.F. & A.M. will conduct a memorial service in the funeral home on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

WILLIAM B. DEWITT
OAKLAND - William B. DeWitt, 66, of E. Water Street, Oakland, died Friday, March 20, 1998, at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born April 3, 1931, in Oakland, he was the son of the late William H. and Charlotte H. Dewitt. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Roy DeWitt.
Surviving are his wife, Leota E. (Wilson) DeWitt; three daughters, Harriett E. Kisner and Mary Ann R. Wilson, both of Lancaster, Pa., and Diann E. Welch, Oakland; six sons, Randy L. DeWitt and Curt L. DeWitt, both of Oakland, William P. DeWitt, Joseph M. DeWitt and Roy A. DeWitt, all of Lancaster, and Albert N. DeWitt, Hagerstown; two sisters, Virgie Welch and Evelyn Welch; one brother, Oliver B. DeWitt; 21 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, March 23, 1998, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Gail Hixon officiating.
