DR. SAMMY G. AMIN
CUMBERLAND - Dr. Sammy G. Amin, 48, of Cumberland, died Dec. 30, 1997.
He was born Oct. 15, 1949.
Dr. Amin was a Professor at Frostburg State University.
Surviving are his wife, Deborah Amin; a daughter, Jehan Amin, both of Cumberland; and a loving nephew, Ehab Shama.
Dr. Amin's body was laid to rest on Jan. 3, 1998, in Cairo, Egypt.
EDNA L. BROADWATER
FROSTBURG - Edna L. Broadwater, 74, of 54 Armstrong St., Frostburg, formerly of 114 North St., Meyersdale, Pa., went to be with her husband on Sunday, March 22, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born June 12, 1923, in Greenville Township, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Charles W. and Ida (Deitle) Clark. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Broadwater, on July 20, 1996. Mr. and Mrs. Broadwater were married
Sept. 12, 1940.
Mrs. Broadwater was very involved in community activities, having served as president of the Earl H. Opel VFW Auxiliary from 1966 to 1968, and as president of the Salisbury Firemen's Auxiliary from 1968 to 1970. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, and had been employed as a waitress for Garf's Sandwich Shop. She also was a homemaker. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking for her family.
A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, she is survived by two daughters, Patricia A. Keister and husband Donald, Jacksonville, Fla., and Carol E. Lucas and husband Thomas, Frostburg, with whom she resided; six grandchildren, Lori Brannen, Kimberly Rasely, Helen Hillin, Donald Keister Jr., Melissa Bosley and Michelle Lucas; eight great-grandchildren, Damian Keister, Kristin Carlo, Allyson Brannen, Jennifer Hillin, Stephanie Hillin, Ryan Rasely, Kevin Rasely, and her newest and special great-grandson, Austin Bosley; a brother, Frank "Joe" Clark, Meyersdale; and a sister, Dorothy Pritts, Callery, Pa.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Newman Funeral Home Inc., Salisbury, Pa., where services will be conducted on Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. David E. Fetter officiating.
Interment will be in the Greenville cemetery.
ELLAN M. CRONIN
FROSTBURG - Ellan Marie Cronin, 106, formerly of 7 Charles St., Frostburg, died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at the St. Vincent de Paul Nursing Home.
Born April 3, 1892, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Spates) Cronin. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Miss Cronin was retired as a registered nurse with 48 years of service. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg, and the Sodality.
Surviving are one nephew, George E. Porter, Frostburg; and one niece, Mary "Sissie" Whiteman, Lonaconing.
At Miss Cronin's request, her body was cremated. There will be no visitation.
A memorial Mass will be held at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. William Moody as celebrant.
MARVIN H. "TUB" ANDERSON
LONACONING - Marvin H. "Tub" Anderson, 75, of Cumberland Nursing Home, formerly of 22422 Seldom Seen Road, Lonaconing, died Jan. 27, 1998, at the nursing home. Born June 11, 1922, in Lonaconing, he was the son of the late Robert Anderson and Margaret (Murdock) Anderson. Also preceding him in death were five brothers, Andrew, Robert, George, William and John Anderson; and two sisters, Mabel Anderson and Margaret Anderson Pederson.
He was a former employee of the American Store, Lonaconing. He was of the Presbyterian faith, and he also was a member of the Senior Citizens of Georges Creek.
Surviving are two sisters, Marie Yates, Lonaconing, and Mary Hetta Lohr, Frostburg; and eight nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Mortimore officiating.
Interment will follow at Laurel Hill cemetery, Moscow Mills.
MARY W. CROSBY
FROSTBURG - Mary W. "Mame" Crosby, 86, formerly of Frostburg, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital. She had been a resident at Rest Assured Residential Living Center, Meyersdale, Pa.
Born July 11, 1912, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Timothy Taylor and Eva (Hawkins) Athey. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Ensley Crosby, in 1965; two brothers, Rich Sterry and Frank "Les" Sterry; and one sister, Blanche Festerman.
Mrs. Crosby was a member of Welsh Memorial Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sisters, Annie Stevenson and husband John, Grahamtown, and Martha Jordan, Hyndman, Pa.; one brother, Timothy Athey, Winchester, Va.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews including Shirley Owens and husband Jack, Silver Spring, and John "Jack" Stevenson and wife Barbara, York, Pa., and Mary Lynn Pegg and husband Bill, Frostburg.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Sandvick officiating.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
JOANN BROADWATER
CUMBERLAND - JoAnn Broadwater, 63, of Cumberland, died Saturday, March 21, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 9, 1934, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of Hilda (Beal) Twigg, of Mount Savage, and the late Joseph E. Twigg.
Mrs. Broadwater was a homemaker. She was a member of the LaVale Chapel.
Surviving are a husband, William F. Broadwater, Cumberland; a son, Aaron W. Broadwater, Libertytown; two daughters, Beverly A. Twigg and husband the Rev. Thomas M. Twigg Jr., Belcamp, and Karen J. Howell and husband George, Jacksonville, Fla.; four brothers, George Twigg, John Twigg and David Twigg, all of Mount Savage, and Roger Twigg, Fort Ashby, W.Va.; a sister, Sharon Robinette, Oldtown; two grandsons, Thomas M. Twigg III and Timothy W. Twigg; and a granddaughter, Valerie May Broadwater.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mrs. Broadwater will be taken to the Central Assembly of God Church on Wednesday at noon, where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Stephen M. Schuessler officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
VELMA L. ANDERSON
AMSTERDAM, Ohio - Velma L. Anderson, 83, a six-year resident of Amsterdam, formerly of Frostburg, Md., died Friday, March 20, 1998, at Trinity Medical Center, Steubenville, after an extended illness.
Born July 22, 1914, in Zihlman, Md., she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Loretta Jack.
Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Anderson, in October 1976. Together they ran Ray's Grocery and Tavern in Frostburg from 1954 until 1976.
She also was preceded in death by one son, John, in 1990; a brother, Clarence Jack; and a sister, Lillian Martin.
Surviving are one daughter, Jan Morley and husband Bert, Amsterdam; one sister, Irene Allen, Cumberland, Md.; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Home, Amsterdam, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Graveside services will be held at Frostburg Memorial Park, Frostburg, on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
