MARY L. DAVIS
RAWLINGS - Mary L. Davis, 86, of 23903 McMullen Highway, S.W., Rawlings, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, at the Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Feb. 15, 1911, at Keyser, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Lawrence G. and Ida M. (Northcraft) Beaver. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Leo Davis, on June 17, 1964; and by one brother, Edward Bever.
Mrs. Davis was a homemaker. She attended the Danville Community Church, Rawlings.
Survivors include a son, James L. Davis and wife, Lavonne, Rawlings; one brother, William S. Beaver, Keyser; five grandchildren, Twila S. Rotruck, James L. Davis, Jr., Timothy E. Davis, Jeffrey S. Davis and Janie L. Davis; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. C. Waco Biser officiating. Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
BEATRICE F. CUNHA
OAKLAND - Beatrice Fern Cunha, 89, of Oakland, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, at her home.
Born June 25, 1909, in Morgantown, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Harry Windell and Ada (Guthrie) Windell. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Cunha, in 1997.
Mrs. Cunha was a retired nurses aide.
Surviving are one daughter, Helen West, Oakland; one son, David Cunha, Sinton, Texas; two brothers, Glen Windell, Cranesville, and Paul Windell, Chesapeake, Va.; two sisters, Billie Squires and Eleanor Teets, both of Cranesville; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. J. Rogers Fike officiating.
Interment will be in the Terra Alta cemetery.
NORRIS "NOOK" BROADWATER
KLONDIKE - Norris L. "Nook" Broadwater, 78, of Klondike, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born May 22, 1919, in Barton, he was the son of the late Benjamin B. Broadwater and Dolly May (Groves) Broadwater.
After 45 years with the Celanese, he retired. He was a bartender of the Redmen's Club, Westernport. Mr. Broadwater was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Frostburg. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #5280, Lonaconing, the Frostburg Eagles Lodge #1273, the Lonaconing Republican Club, and the American Legion Farrady Post #24, Frostburg.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth (Sagal) Hughes Broadwater; a sister, Dorothy Groves, Westernport; two stepsons, James Hughes and wife, Nancy, Erie, Pa., and George "Tars" Hughes and wife, Lois, Frostburg; nine grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 West Main St., Frostburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Steven Shussett officiating.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. Pallbears, all grandsons, will be George, Rick, Kenny, Pat, Tim and Eric Hughes.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Frostburg Area Ambulance Service.
AGNES M. CODY
CUMBERLAND - Agnes Mary Cody, 94, of Allegany County Nursing Home, formerly of Wempe Drive and New Jersey, died Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, at the nursing home.
She was born March 6, 1904, in New Baltimore, N.Y. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen E. Cody Sr., who died in combat during World War II; and her son, Stephen Cody Jr.
Mrs. Cody was a secretary for St. Mary's Parish in New Jersey and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cumberland.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Monday, Oct. 19, 1998, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Milton A. Hipsley as celebrant.
A graveside service will be conducted at the Arlington National cemetery on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1998, at 2 p.m.
FRANCIS "RED" CUNNINGHAM
FROSTBURG - Francis R. "Red" Cunningham, 90, of 9 Centennial St., Frostburg, died Monday, June 8, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Sept. 26, 1907, in Mount Savage, he was the son of the late Charles and Sarah (Lynch) Cunningham. He also was preceded in death by two brothers; two sisters; and one daughter, Rita Ann Cunningham.
Mr. Cunningham was a retired foreman with Cumberland Cement and Supply.
He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Alma M. (Deibler) Cunningham; two daughters, Wilda Plummer, and husband, Berl, and Elaine Diamond, and husband, Bill, all of Frostburg; one sister, Helen Wheatley, Baltimore; six grandchildren, Martin "Marty" Plummer, and wife, Mary Jane, Paula Rita Morgan, and husband, Gene, William "Bill" Diamond, and wife, Jane, Jon Diamond, and wife, Karen, James "Jimmy" Diamond, and wife, Cindy, and Maria Cotton, and husband, Dave; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Byrnes as celebrant.
Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Pallbearers will be the grandsons: Martin "Marty" Plummer, Gene Morgan, William "Bill" Diamond, Jon Diamond, James "Jimmy" Diamond and Dave Cotton.
The family request memorials take the form of contributions to St. Michael's School, 56 E. Main St., Frostburg, MD 21532.
WILLIAM S. ANGLE
WESTERNPORT - William S. Angle, 100, formerly of Westernport, died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, at the Veterans Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va. He had resided there for the last 16 months.
Born in Bayview, Md., on Jan. 16, 1898, he was the son of the late Andrew P. and Emma S. (Hall) Angle. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Adele (Reed) Angle, on July 16, 1981; and two sons, Robert and William Angle.
Mr. Angle was Catholic by faith. He was a veteran of World War I, having served in the U.S. Army 29th Division. He was the oldest and last World War I member of Kelly-Mansfield Post 52 American Legion, Piedmont, W.Va.; and held the same distinction in Post 632 VFW in Harrisonburg, Va., and Queens Point VFW 6775 in McCoole. He was the oldest retiree from Westvaco Corp., having retired on Feb. 1, 1963, as a Machine Room Foreman with more than 43 years of service.
Surviving are two daughters, Jean Devlin and husband Dan, Potomac Park, Md., and Charlotte Downey and husband Fred, Westernport; one sister, Florence Conway and husband Jack, Coconut Creek, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Angle requested that his body be cremated.
The family will receive friends at the Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
A memorial service sill be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. by the Rev. Jim Hannon and the Rev. Lester Clifford.
Full military honors will be accorded after the service at St. Peter's cemetery, Westernport, by the various local veterans organizations.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Tri-Towns Rescue Squad.
