MARIE D. DUBOIS
WESTERNPORT - Marie D. Dubois, 89, formerly of 206 Wood St., and more recently of 102 Cromer St., Westernport, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, at her residence.
Born Oct. 23, 1909, in Bloomington, she was the daughter of the late Michael S. and Mary E. (Riggleman) Duckworth. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Dubois; a sister, Pearl D. Maphis; and two brothers, Michael S. Duckworth Jr. and Howard F. Duckworth.
Mrs. Dubois was a 1928 graduate of Bruce High School and graduated with a master's degree in education from Frostburg State Teachers College. She was valedictorian of her graduating class at both schools. She taught school for 36 years at Paw Paw, Luke, Stoney Run and Westernport elementary schools. She was a published poet, and contributed to various charitable organizations.
Surviving are a sister, Alice D. Fink, Westernport; two brothers, Samuel B. Duckworth, BelAir, and Allen L. Duckworth, White Marsh; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Saturday, Nov. 28, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 1 p.m. by the Rev. John Footen.
Interment will be in the Philos cemetery, Westernport.
OLA DELL ARISON
UNIONTOWN, Pa. - Ola Dell Vance Arison, age 81, of Spring Hill, Fla., died Sunday, April 19, 1998, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 30, 1916, in Vances Mill, a daughter of the late Charles William and Eva Mae Rutter Vance. Also preceding her in death were a son, John Richard "Dick" Arison Jr.; two brothers, Walter Vance and Charles William Vance Jr.; and three sisters, Myrtle Mae Barnhart, Blanche E. Moore and Maggie Vance.
Surviving are her husband, John Richard "J.R." Arison; and a sister, Thelma Shaffer, of Uniontown.
Mrs. Arison was a former salesperson for the Strawbridge and Clothier and John Wanamaker Department Stores.
Friends will be received in the Jerome W. Shell Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Friday until 11 a.m., the hour of the service, with the Rev. Kenneth Jones officiating. Private interment will follow in Sylvan Heights cemetery.
BEAUANNIS F. DAVIS
WESTERNPORT - Beauannis F. Davis, 61, of 9 Schoolhouse Court, Boonsboro, formerly of Westernport, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1998, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born March 3, 1936, in Rawlings, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Whetzel and the late Ethel A. (Trenum) Whetzel Wilson Kohne. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin R. Davis, in 1969; and two brothers, Richard Whetzel and James Whetzel.
Mrs. Davis was a member of Queens Point VFW 6775 Ladies Auxiliary, and Petunia Council 10 Order of Redmen.
Surviving are one son, Marvin Davis, Boonsboro; one daughter, Janet Anderson, Augusta, W.Va.; brothers, Robert Whetzel, Beltsville, Albert Whetzel, Westernport, Paul Wilson, Elkton, and Lawrence Wilson, Westernport; sisters, Gertrude Custer, Barton, Myrtle Taylor, Elkton, Sarah Saville, Keyser, W.Va., Mary Mellott, Northeast, and Alfretta Riggs, Westernport; and four grandchildren.
At her request, her body was cremated.
Memorial services will be conducted at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Tuesday, March 3, 1998, at 11 a.m.
Interment will be in the Philos cemetery, Westernport.
MARGARET L. DUCKWORTH
LAVALE - Margaret Louise Duckworth, 65, of LaVale, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, at her home.
Born May 5, 1933, in Laurel, she was the daughter of Mary Ellen Farrell Athey, Laurel, and the late Joseph Andrew. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Blair Duckworth.
Mrs. Duckworth was a homemaker. She was Catholic by faith.
Surviving in addition to her mother are two daughters, Delores M. Peterman and husband Rich, Hebron, and JoAnn Clark, Cumberland; three sons, Wayne Duckworth and wife Denise, LaVale, Claude Duckworth and wife Brenda, Cumberland, and Kenneth Welch and wife Carol, Thayers Island; three sisters, Carmella Jackson, Frederick, Lucy Hepperle, Hurlock, and Edna Harmon, Frederick; and two brothers, Joseph Welch, Laurel, and Ralph Carotenuto, Laurel; 18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Fuenral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Sunday at 12:30 p.m. with Father Milton A. Hipsley officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
JAMES N. CRABTREE
OLDTOWN - James N. Crabtree, 64, of Oldtown, died Monday, March 30, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Aug. 19, 1933, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late C.R. and Carrie (Alderton) Crabtree. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Crabtree; and two sisters, Rose Lewis and Beulah Davis.
Mr. Crabtree was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. He owned and operated American Paint and Glass Co., Cumberland, for more than 20 years, and was employed by Western Maryland Glass and Glazing Inc. He was a member of the Winifred Road Church of Christ; life member of the Oldtown VFW; former secretary of the Oldtown Lions Club; member Cumberland Council 179 United Commercial Travelers; member Teamsters Union; and a graduate of insurance adjustor school, and attended Oldtown School.
Surviving are his wife, Darla JoAnn (Bohrer) Crabtree; one daughter, Jo Nile Crabtree, Oldtown; two sons, Kyle Crabtree, Oldtown, and Jody Crabtree and wife Cynthia, Augusta, Ga.; five sisters, Pauline Fox, Nellie Rader, Helen Walters, Maxine Crabtree, all of Oldtown, and JoAnn Allen, Cumberland; two brothers, Russell "Buck" Crabtree, Oldtown, and Walter "Jack" Crabtree, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with Pastor John R. Herbst and Pastor Roger Tuning officiating.
Interment will be in the Woodrow cemetery, Paw Paw, W.Va.
Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be Glen Shrum, Bob Noel, Glen Smith, Eddie Richards, Jim Ritchie and Mike Twigg.
DOROTHY A. EPPLER
WESTMINSTER - Dorothy A. Eppler, born July 12, 1910, in Cumberland, was the daughter of Thomas and Bessie Ansel Eyerman. She was the wife of George L. Eppler, to whom she was married
for 60 years.
She graduated from Allegany High School in Cumberland in 1928, and she graduated from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Cumberland in 1932. From 1933-1934 she was at Manhattan Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital in New York for a nine month Post Graduate course. From 1934-1937 she was supervisor of the eye, ear, nose and throat operating room at the Mountainside Hospital, Montclair, N.J., and then Wilmer Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital until May 1938. She was a camp nurse at a Girl Scout summer camp in the summer of 1938.
She moved to Westminster in 1948. She was active and devoted to church and community. In 1961, she worked at Carroll County General Hospital when the hospital first opened and worked on the Hospital Auxiliary's First Silvery Moon Ball and several thereafter.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Westminster, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the "Just Two Again."
She was a 50-year member of McKinley Chapter #12. Order of the Eastern Star, Cumberland.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Frederick and Emma Stambaugh Eppler of Westminster; and a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Jerry Harris of Taneytown; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be given in her name to Grace Lutheran Church, 21 Carroll St., Westminster, MD 21157.
Funeral services will be held at the Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster, on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m., with her Pastors David Helfrich and L. Stanley Whitson officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 p.m. until start of services.
Interment will be private.
