MERLE R. ARMSTRONG
BURLINGTON, W.Va. - Merle Rex Armstrong, 80, of Push Root Road, Burlington, died Monday, March 9, 1998, at Burlington.
Born Aug. 12, 1917, in Grafton, he was the son of the late Ray and Frances P. (Myers) Armstrong.
Mr. Armstong was a retired foreman from the B&O; Railroad. He was a United Methodist by faith, and a member of the TCU.
Surviving are his wife, Julia E. (Nicola) Armstrong; one son, Merle R. Armstrong Jr. and wife Margaret, Moses, Wash.; one daughter, Sandra S. Shoemaker and husband Lloyd C., Purgitsville; one sister, Rosalena Day, Clarksburg; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Markwood McKenzie Funeral Home, Keyser, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, March 13, 1998, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Larry Shrout officiating.
Interment will be in the Queens Point cemetery, Keyser.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Burlington Rescue Squad.
RUTH A. COMER
SHENANDOAH, Va. - Ruth Arthelia Comer, 89, of Shenandoah, died on Oct. 24, 1998, at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Shenandoah on Oct. 27, 1908, and was the daughter of the late John A. and Cora Elizabeth Turner Ferrell.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Mount Lebanon United Church of Christ.
On June 15, 1927, she married
Floyd D. Comer, who survives. She is also survived by one son, Roy Lee Comer, Jefferson, Md.; one daughter, Phyllis J. Price, Shenandoah; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Floyd Dennis Comer Jr. and Melvin Ray Comer; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1998, at the Mount Lebanon Church of Christ at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Albert Elswick and the Rev. Guy Ferrell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family received friends Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the church, and at the Comer residence at other times.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shenandoah Rescue Squad, 544 Fourth St., Shenandoah, VA 22849.

RICHARD T. COMBS
CUMBERLAND - Richard Thomas Combs, 64, of Lake City, S.C., died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1998, in San Diego.
Born March 3, 1934, in Allegany County, he was the son of the late Roy A. Combs Sr. and Ohma (Male) Combs. He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernadine Smith and Dorothy Ann McLaughlin.
Surviving are his wife, Jo Ellen (Maxon) Combs, Lake City; one son Richard Dale Combs, San Diego; three daughters, Nancy and Les Beben, Sumter, S.C., Tammy and Charles Stone, Lake City, and Kimberly Combs, Sumter; 11 grandchildren; three sisters, Elizabeth Bartles, Falling Waters, W.Va., Patricia Miller, Hagerstown, Mary Jac Combs, Rock Ledge, Fla.; three brothers, Roy A. Combs Jr., Albuquerque, N.M., John R. Combs and James F. Combs, both of Cumberland.
Mr. Combs retired from the U.S. Army after 23 years of services. He then worked 12 years for the U.S. government.
The body is at the Floyd Funeral Home, Olanta, S.C.
Viewing will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home Monday at 4 p.m.
Interment will be in Lake City.
CARL WILLIAM DEAL
FROSTBURG - Carl William Deal, 78, of 163 Old Schoolhouse Road, Frostburg, passed away at St. Vincent de Paul Nursing Home, Frostburg, on Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998.
He was born at Salisbury, Pa., on March 19, 1920, a son of the late William M. and Mary A. Baer Deal.
He had been a trackman with the Western Maryland Railway. He was a veteran of World War II and was an engineer in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Greenville Lutheran Church and Salisbury V.F.W. Post #8826
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis I. Blubaugh Deal; one son, James W. Deal, Frostburg; two daughters, Bonnie Jean Cessnick, Midland, Patricia Lynn George, Salisbury; four brothers, Paul and Ralph Deal, both of Salisbury, Walter, Frostburg, Donald, Meyersdale, Pa.; three sisters, Ethel Clark, Meyersdale, Edna Brown and Mary B. Brown, both of Frostburg; and six grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Greenville Lutheran Church with Pastor David Fetter officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.
Interment will be in the Greenville cemetery.
Military rites will be accorded by Salisbury V.F.W. Post #8826.
LEONA M. BROLL
BALTIMORE - Leona M. Broll, 95, of Cockspur Road, Baltimore, formerly of Eglon, W.Va., died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at the Riverview Nursing Centre, Baltimore.
Born April 14, 1902, in Eglon, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Ella (Hoff) Wotring. She also was preceded in death by her husband, John William Broll; two daughters, Selma B. Trotsel and Anita Broll; three sons, Vernon W. "Beck" Broll, Blondale "Bill" Broll and Herbert O. Broll; seven brothers; and two sisters.
She was a retired sales clerk, having worked for the Epstein's Department Store, Baltimore, and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Cumberland.
She is survived by one son, Kerry Broll and wife, Wilma, Baltimore; one sister, Margaret Sanders and husband, Forrest, Oakland; two daughters-in-law, Juanita (Povish) Broll, Baltimore, and Margaret (Allen) (Broll) Peterson, Cumberland; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, where services will be held on Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Robinson officiating.
Interment will be in the Aurora cemetery, Aurora, W.Va.
DAISY MAE ARNOLD
FINZEL - Daisy Mae Arnold, age 76, of 38 Finzel Road, Frostburg, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born April 27, 1921, in Garrett County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Martha (Caton) Minick. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard and Bernard Minick; and her husband, Hoye "Buck" Arnold, in November 1974.
Mrs. Arnold was a homemaker. She was formerly employed at the Celanese Fibers Corporation, Bobbin Department. She was a Catholic by faith.
Surviving are one son, Paul Arnold, Finzel; one daughter, Shirley Michael and husband, Jimmy, Frostburg; three sisters, Betty Faidley, Finzel, Hilda Wilhelm, Avilton, and Helen Louk, Michigan; four grandchildren, Lisa Wharton and husband, Ronnie, LaVale, Jim Michael Jr. and wife, Janice, Finzel, and Dixie Baer and husband, Rick, Frostburg, Jessica Wharton, Frostburg; two great-grandchildren, Destiny Baer and Dustin Michael.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with Sister Joan Minella S.S.N.D. officiating.
Following the service, Mrs. Arnold will be cremated. Interment of the cremains will be in the St. Ann's cemetery, Avilton.
