CHARLES E. "JUG" BOYCE JR.
CUMBERLAND - Charles E. "Jug" Boyce Jr., 78, formerly of Mount Airy and more recently a resident of the Lions Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland, died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at the Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born on Aug. 16, 1920, at Keyser, W.Va., he was a son of the late Charles Elmer Boyce Sr. and Delphia (Barnhouse) Boyce. He also was preceded in death by five brothers, Claude R. "Shorty" Boyce, Donald Boyce, Kenneth Boyce, Ralph Boyce and an infant brother.

Mr. Boyce was a 1940 graduate of Piedmont High School and was formerly employed with the Celanese Amcelle Corporation, Potomac Edison, and at Kenny's Corner Market in Keyser. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He formerly attended Grace United Methodist Church, Keyser.

He was a life member of both Nancy Hanks Post #3518 VFW, Keyser, and DAV Chapter #9, Keyser.

Surviving are two brothers, Nelson H. Boyce and wife, Wanda, and Leon H. Boyce and wife, Jeanette, all of Keyser; six nieces; and one nephew.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Sue Culbertson Jarrett officiating.

Interment will be in the Queens Point cemetery, Keyser.

ERNEST L. BOWSER
GRANTSVILLE - Ernest L. Bowser, 71, of 2402 Pigs Ear Road, Grantsville, died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, at his residence after a lengthy illness. Born Jan. 22, 1928, in Grants ville, he was a son of the late Harry and Reba (Smith) Bowser. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Charles. Mr. Bowser was a lifelong member of State Line United Methodist Church. He was a retired truck driver for Harbison-Walker Refractories with 41 years of service. A World War II veteran having served with the U.S. Army in Japan, he also was a member of Grantsville American Legion Post 214 and Walker-Harris Post 8826 VFW, Salisbury, Pa. Surviving are his wife, JoAnn (Walls) Bowser; a daughter, Rhonda Bach and husband Ed, Grantsville; a grandson, Matthew Bach; a granddaughter, Laura Bach; a brother, Harry Bowser, Grantsville; and five sisters, Twila George, Cumberland, Freda Reichenbecher, Grantsville, Edith Yommer, Addison, Pa., Donna Frickey and Gloria Reckner, both of Salisbury, Pa. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Brenda Shreve officiating. Interment will be in the Addison cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to State Line United Methodist Church.

ELWOOD C. BOWSER
ACCIDENT - Elwood Charles Bowser, 65, of Accident, died Friday, April 17, 1998, at his residence.
Born June 25, 1932, in Accident, he was a son of the late Charles R. and Arletta (Burkhardt) Bowser. He also was preceded in death by a brother Albert.

Mr. Bowser was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. A U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a member of Accident Post 208, American Legion. He also was a lifetime member of Battle Grove Democratic Club, Baltimore. Mr. Bowser was a retired steel worker and truck driver.

Surviving are his wife, Eleanor A. (Turner) Bowser; a son, Derek, Baltimore; three daughters, Kim Bowser and Stacey Bowser, both of Baltimore, and Fiona Marino, BelAir; a brother, Glenn, Baltimore; three sisters, Loretta Rush, Accident, Alverta Rush and Norma Bernard, both of Oakland; and four grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, McHenry, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Monday from 10 a.m. to noon.

Services will be conducted at Zion Lutheran Church on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Wilfred Karsten officiating.

Interment will be in the Zion cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by area veterans organizations.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Hospice of Garrett County.

EVELYN B. COBERLY
MOUNT SAVAGE - Evelyn B. Coberly, 91, of Tulsa, Okla., formerly of Mount Savage and the Kensington-Algonquin, died Saturday, May 30, 1998, in Tulsa.
Born July 4, 1906, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Harrison L. and Adeline (Evans) Matthews. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie O. Coberly Sr.; one sister; and three brothers.

Mrs. Coberly was a member of Mount Savage Methodist Church, had taught Sunday School and served on many church committees. She was a dental assistant for her husband, Dr. Bernie O. Coberly Sr. She was a 52-year member and Past Matron of the Rebecca Arnold Chapter 57 OES and had represented the local chapter as a page at Grand Chapter in Baltimore. She was a past member of the RE Temple Daughters of the Nile and the Ladies Shrine.

Surviving are a son, Dr. Bernie O. Coberly Jr. and wife Mona Lou, Cumberland; a daughter, Amelia Allan and husband Thomas, Broken Arrow, Okla.; a sister, Norine Williams, Baltimore; five grandchildren, Gene C. Hose, Suzanne McCombs, Connie Hurdle, Molly Coberly and Deborah Orgeron; and six great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Rebecca Arnold Chapter 57 OES will conduct memorial services on Friday at 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Broome officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Coberly to the Mount Savage Methodist Church or the Mount Savage Volunteer Fire Department.

Pallbearers will be Gene C. Hose, Michael Hurdle, Phillip Orgeron, Robert L. Crump, William Neder and H. Wayne George Jr.

ELIZABETH H. BOWMAN
CUMBERLAND - Elizabeth H. "Betty" Bowman, 67, of Cumberland, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, at the Devlin Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland.
Born May 3, 1931, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late H. Clifford and Mary Kay (Davidson) Spiker. She also was preceded in death by one brother, John C. Spiker; and one sister, Dorothy M. Cwynar.

Mrs. Bowman was a retired cafeteria manager at St. Mary's Elementary School and Bishop Walsh Middle/High School. She also was an employee of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was a 1949 graduate of St. Mary's High School. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Church Sodality, and the Martha's Group at the church. She was a Eucharist Minister at St. Mary's.

Surviving are her husband of 46 years, Robert E. Bowman; one daughter, Kathy Caruso and husband Steve, Boca Raton, Fla.; one son, Thomas D. Bowman, Norfolk, Va.; three grandsons, Robert T. Bowman, Livingston, Texas, Mark R. Caruso and Kevin A. Caruso, both of Boca Raton; and one sister, Margaret R. Spiker, Cumberland.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Christian Wake service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. At its conclusion, the Rosary will be recited by the Church Sodality.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Mary's Catholic Church on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Milton A. Hipsley as celebrant.

Interment will be in the St. Mary's cemetery.

DONALD E. BOWMAN
BETHESDA - Donald Edward Bowman, 74, formerly of Marion Street, Cumberland, and currently residing at 5800 Ryland Drive, Bethesda, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1998, at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda.
Born Oct. 11, 1924, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Grandon Bowman and the late Pearl Bowman.

Mr. Bowman was formerly a pressman for the Cumberland Times-News until 1962, and then worked for the Maryland Workshop for the Blind at NIH Bethesda. He retired in 1992.

Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Mary Elizabeth (Kyle) Bowman, Bethesda; a daughter, Antoinette Hyatt, Rockville; a step son, Jack L. DeRosa and wife, Marline, Silver Spring; an adopted son, Donald Preston Bowman, Arizona; a brother, Thomas Bowman, Baltimore; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He blessed us all with his presence.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., with the Rev. Tom Landaker officiating.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.

Pallbearers will be Chris DeRosa, David DeRosa, Mark Bauman, Doug Connelly, Charles Bauman, Larry Barnes and Rick Wiley.

RUTH C. BOSLEY
CUMBERLAND - Ruth C. Bosley, 87, of 1032 Frederick St., Cumberland, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 12, 1910, in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Grayson Haines and the late Alberta (Miller) Haines. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Walter C. Bosley, in July 1970.

Mrs. Bosley was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Ringer and husband Ivan, Ridgeley, W.Va., and Janice Straw and husband Dennis, Cumberland; one son, Richard C. Bosley and wife Mae, Bellevue, Neb.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Moreland, Romney, W.Va.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Jones officiating.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
