EVELYN A. CAREY
FROSTBURG - Evelyn A. Carey, of Frostburg Village Nursing Home, formerly of 19435 National Highway, N.W., died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born March 7, 1915, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late George and Lily (Atkinson) Arnold. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by 12 sisters and brothers, Patience Wenck, Mae Engle, Elsie Miller, Iola Kamauf, Clara Eisle, Alice Caseykamp, Pearl Johnson, Hoy Arnold, George Arnold, Fuller Arnold, Carl Arnold and Woodrow Arnold. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Carey was a homemaker. She was a member of the Frostburg United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Harry L. Carey; one son, Jerry Tenny and wife, JoAnn; one daughter, Sharon M. Carey; two grandchildren, Jerry Tenny, Jr., and Lisa Tenny, all of Frostburg.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George A. Aist, officiating.
Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.

VERA A. CHANEY
FROSTBURG - Vera A. Chaney, age 75, of 193 E. Main St., Frostburg, died Friday, July 31, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Sept. 6, 1922, in Avilton, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Alice (Whiteman) Chaney. She was also preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.
Miss Chaney was retired from Beall High School Cafeteria as a baker. She was a member of the Frostburg Church of the Brethren, where she served on the church board, the flower committee, and the women's fellowship. She was also a member of the Farrady Unit #24 American Legion, and the Frostburg Chapter #221 Women of the Moose.
Surviving are two sisters, Hazel Robertson and Naomi Edsall, both of Frostburg; and one brother, the Rev. Connell Chaney, Grantsville; and numerous and nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Women of the Moose will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Rick Riley and the Rev. T. William Preston officiating.
Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Bob Robertson, Steven Folk, Walter Sonnenberg, Roy Diehl, Adam Labutka and Arthur Rounds.
FRANCES L. BAKER
CUMBERLAND - Frances Laing (Lawler) Baker, 74, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 1, 1924, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Leo Thomas and Lillian Marie (Laing) Lawler. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Wilton Anthony Baker, on Nov. 19, 1961; one brother, Albert J. Lawler; and one sister, Lillian Marie Lawler.
Mrs. Baker graduated from the Ursuline Academy; Catherman's Business School; and the United States Naval Hospital Corps Training, Bethesda. She has an Associate Arts degree in mental health and was a licensed practical nurse.
Mrs. Baker served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She retired from the Thomas B. Finan Center, where she was a mental health associate. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Sue Schulten and husband Byron, Cumberland; five sons, Wilton A. Baker and wife Dianne, Bethesda, David E. Baker and wife Kimberly, Philadelphia, Albert L. Baker and wife Jill, Cumberland, Michael A. Baker and wife Meg, Kensington, and Fred L. Baker and wife Pamela, Cumberland; two brothers, Thomas C. Lawler, Virginia, and the Rev. Ronald Lawler, OFM, Cap., Pittsburgh; one sister, Mary Busch, Ocean Pines; 13 grandchildren, David W. Baker and Kristin, Michael A. Mooney, Mark E.W. Baker, Joshua J. Baker and Jill McCullough, Samantha J. Baker, Morgan A. Baker, Mitchell E. Baker, Zachary A. Griffith and wife Catherine, Amanda L. Griffith, Nicholas J. Griffith, Sarah S. Baker, Rebeccah L. Baker and Alexander Baker; one great-grandson, Draven J. Baker; and a dear friend, Margaret Williams, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., corner of Greene and Smallwood streets, Cumberland, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The Rosary will be recited at the funeral home on Friday at 8:45 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

GERALDINE E. BAKER
CUMBERLAND - Mrs. Geraldine Eleanor Baker, 86, of 643 Henderson Ave., Cumberland, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at the Allegany Nursing Home.
Born Nov. 18, 1911, at Tiffin, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late John Nicholas Ackerman and Catherine Wilhelminia (Adam) Ackerman. She also was preceded in death by her husband, John Calvin Baker, on Nov. 12, 1968. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a member of Zion Reform United Church of Christ for more than 70 years.
She is survived by two sons, Charles Baker, Lancaster, Pa., and Glenn E. Baker and wife, Leona, Ellerslie; and two daughters, Edna Leasure, Cumberland, and Darlene Logsdon and husband, Wayne, Ellerslie; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Rosemary Baumgardner and the Rev. Rebecca J. Vardiman officiating.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Logsdon, David Glenn Burgess, Carl Emerick, Greg DuVall, Barry Miller and Stan Clayton.
Interment will be in the Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
