DANIEL B. BALL
CUMBERLAND - Daniel Benjamin Ball, 78, of 420 Pine Ave., Cumberland, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, at Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit.
Born April 2, 1920, in Maryland, he was the son of the late Robert Benjamin Ball and the late Helen Irene (Galloway) Ball. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Iantha May (Montgomery) Ball, in 1984; his brother, Robert Ball; and a sister, Anna Ball Wilson.

Mr. Ball was an employee of Mayfield Chevrolet-Oldsmobile Inc. in Frostburg. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he served as a sergeant.

Surviving are two sisters, Marjorie Ball Gilmor, Buffalo, N.Y., and Helen Irene Ball, California; a special brother-in-law, Arthur Montgomery, Baltimore; and many other relations and friends.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 10 a.m.

Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.

Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

HELEN M. BARB
CUMBERLAND - Helen M. Barb, 69, of Winchester Road, Cumberland, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, in Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Feb. 26, 1929, in Leadmine, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George Edwin and Carrie (Lantz) Judy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Barb, in December 1991.

Mrs. Barb was a member of A.A.R.P.

Surviving are a companion and special friend, Charles House, Cumberland; a daughter, Charlotte M. Lohr, and husband, Richard E., Walkersville; three sisters, Glenda Welch, Cumberland, Natalee Cougar, Arthurdale, W.Va., and Linda Frank, Missouri; five brothers, Melvin E. Judy, and wife, Phyllis, Bayard, W.Va., Junior Judy, and wife, Betty, Burlington, W.Va., Alonzo Judy, and wife, Jane, Keyser, W.Va., Joe Judy, and wife, Janet, Bowie, and Ray Judy, and wife Gisle, Adrian, Michigan; a number of nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Hwy., LaVale, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Don Marple officiating.

Interment will follow in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.

Serving as pallbearers will be Kenneth R. Heavener, Kenneth L. Welch Sr., Kenneth L. Welch Jr., Paul E. Fletcher Jr., David Fletcher and Elwood Chapman.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Barb to the American Cancer Society, 111 S. George St., Cumberland, MD 21502.

ROBERT C. BARCLAY
CUMBERLAND - Robert Charles Barclay, 91, of Oleander Drive, Cumberland, died Monday, April 13, 1998, in Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Oct. 2, 1906, in Lonaconing, he was the son of the late Charles and Bessie (Reiver) Barclay. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Wilson Barclay.

Mr. Barclay was a member of Frostburg United Methodist Church, and was a retired Nationwide Insurance agent. He was a member of Frostburg B.P.O. Elks Lodge #470, and was active in Allegany County Crime Solvers.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy (Reinhard) Barclay; three daughters, Bonnie Malloy, Arlington, Va., Marsha Endlich, Vienna, Va., and Sharon Johnson, Falls Church, Va.; four step-daughters, Janet Anderson, Adelphi, Gail Green, Glen Dale, Marge Classen, Lynch, Neb., and Sue Ann Swartz, Bowie; one sister, Mary Matilda Wilson, LaVale; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. George A. Aist officiating.

Interment will follow in Frostburg Memorial Park, Frostburg.

Frostburg B.P.O. Elks Lodge #470 will conduct services on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

RICHARD E. "BARNEY" BARNARD SR.
FREDERICK - Mr. Richard Elworth "Barney" Barnard Sr., 76, of 502 East Patrick St., Frederick, died on Monday, April 6, 1998, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Georgia Stein Barnard, who preceded him in death on Jan. 8, 1993.
Born on March 28, 1922, in Bloomington, he was the son of the late Washington and Julia May Jones Barnard.

Mr. Barnard was a World War II Army veteran, and retired after 27 years of service as a Security Guard at Fort Detrick. He also worked at the Maryland School for the Deaf, the Weis Market (Jefferson Street), and worked the Board Members Gate at the Frederick County Fair Grounds.

He was a member of Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, Mount Airy, and the American Legion Francis Scott Key Post #11, Frederick. He enjoyed playing Bingo at Wal-Mart, and was a Mall Walker at the FSK Mall.

Surviving are three daughters, Linda Watts and husband, Dallas, of Frederick, Julia Spencer and husband, John, also of Frederick, and Diane Simmons and husband, Gene, of Hagerstown; two sons, Alden Barnard and wife, Nancy, of Ockalahawa, Fla., and Richard Barnard Jr., and wife, Connie, of Mount Airy; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; a brother, Russell Barnard of Frederick; a sister, Olive Reeves of Westernport; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He also is survived by a special companion, Louise Boyer of Feagaville.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by numerous brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, on Wednesday, April 8, from 3 to 9 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral will be on Thursday, April 9, at 11 a.m. from the Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, 13356 Glissans Mill Road, Mount Airy, with visiting beginning at 10 a.m. Pastors L. Ross Kirk and Wallace "Bud" Lusk will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.

GEORGE W. EVANS
CUMBERLAND - George W. Evans, 76, of Sunshine Drive, Cumberland, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 1, 1922, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Oliver M. Evans Sr. and Edna E. (Stewart) Evans. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Evans and Nial "Frankie" Evans; and two sisters, Thelma Ashenfelter and Catherine Breighner.

Mr. Evans was retired from the C&P; Telephone Company, Cumberland. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, a trustee for the church, a Sunday School Superintendent, a teacher for the church, a member of the Men's Bible Class of the church, and a coach for 21 years for Grace United Methodist Church Youth Basketball Team. He was a coach in the YMCA Sunday School Basketball League, where he was the league's "Down Through the Years" award winner, and he also received the C&P; Telephone Company Community Achievement award. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and a volunteer for the Cumberland Meals on Wheels. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Josette Evans; one daughter, Michelle Moushabek and husband, Roger, Hesperia, Calif.; two brothers, Oliver M. Evans Jr. and wife, Dorothy, and Charles F. "Barney" Evans and wife, Geraldine, all of Cumberland; four sisters, Mary A. Appel, Hagerstown, Edna M. Hefner and husband, Joe, Cumberland, Shirley D. Lease and husband, Ed, Reston, Va., and Laura L. Watts, Wiley Ford, W.Va.; one brother-in-law, Robert Ashenfelter, Cumberland; two grandchildren, Albert and Amanda Moushabek; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Grace United Methodist Church, Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard H. Jewell and the Rev. Dr. Emora Brannan officiating.

Interment will be in Davis Memorial cemetery, Cumberland. Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

The family requests contributions be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 130 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, MD 21502.

ROBERT ADAM "BOOTS" ELLIOTT
KITZMILLER - Robert Adam "Boots" Elliott, age 81, of Kitzmiller passed away Saturday, May 23, 1998, in the Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born Sept. 1, 1916, in Bloomington, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Mary Jane (Heatley) Elliott.

Mr. Elliott was retired from the railroad and also from the United Mine Workers of America.

He is survived by his wife, Isabella (Paugh) Elliott; one son, Terry Elliott, Kitzmiller; five daughters, Barbara Whitacre, Tallmadge, Ohio, Kay Huwig, Akron, Ohio, Carol Ann Matthews, Kitzmiller, Glenda Baker and Lori Paugh, both of Oakland; one brother, Lawrence Elliott, Kitzmiller; one sister, Dorothy Umstot, Westernport; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Donald E. Marple officiating.

Interment will be in the Kalbaugh cemetery, Elk Garden.
