ELLA E. BEALL
CUMBERLAND - Ella Elizabeth Beall, 91, of Allegany County Nursing Home, formerly of Queen City Towers and Kensington-Algonquin, died Sunday, May 17, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born Oct. 9, 1906, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Ralph B. and Mary (Campbell) Shuck. She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Beall.
Mrs. Beall was retired from the Hecht Company in Silver Spring. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Church Sodality. She also was a member of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary #245, Catholic Daughters of America Court Cardinal Gibbons #529, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, and Cumberland Senior Citizens.
Surviving are one sister, Mary V. Carroll King, Baltimore; seven nieces, Paula Buckley, and husband, Robert, Tulsa, Okla., Merry Theriault, Orange Park, Fla., Susan Tressler, and husband, John, Oldtown, Patricia Schisler, and husband, Don, LaVale, Mary Klug, and husband, George, Jacksonville, Fla., Joan Baccala, and husband, Raymond, Sykesville, Peggy Lipscomb, and husband, David, Bel Air; and one nephew, David Shuck, and wife, Diane, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake will be conducted Tuesday at 8 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Fr. Thomas Bevan as celebrant.
Interment will be in Rose Hill cemetery, Cumberland.
Pallbearers will be John Tressler, Thomas John Tressler, Brian Tressler and David Shuck.
FREDERICK M. BEALL
TIMONIUM - Frederick M. Beall, 84, of Barata Court, Timonium, died at his residence on Wednesday, March 18, 1998. Born March 3, 1914, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Walter Raymond "Ray" Beall and Bertha (Sietz) Beall. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine V. "Kitty" Beall, who died April 6, 1994. He also was preceded in death by one sister.
Mr. Beall was a retired Industrial Sales Representative with Mobil Oil Company, Philadelphia Office; a member of the Timonium United Methodist Church; a Past Master of Fort Cumberland Lodge #211 A.F. & A.M.; Scottish Rite Bodies of Cumberland; a 50-year member of the Shrine, he was a member of Boumi Shrine Temple, Baltimore, and a member of Cumberland Chapter #56, Order of the Eastern Star.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur St., Cumberland, MD 21502, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. R. Frederick Crider officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Fort Cumberland Lodge #211, A.F. & A.M. will hold memorial services at the funeral home on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
MARY CATHERINE BEALL
CUMBERLAND - Mary Catherine Beall, 90, formerly of Bedford Road, Cumberland, died Monday, May 4, 1998, at Raines Home Care on Williams Road, Cumberland.
Born Aug. 21, 1907, in Pittsburgh, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Addison Eyler and the late Sarah Bertha Eyler. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Wright Beall.
Mrs. Beall managed the Buddy-Dale hat shop on Baltimore Street. She also was the owner and operator of Eylers Wallpaper Store on Bedford Street. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., with the Rev. Edward Dickel officiating.
Interment will be in Zion Memorial Park.
MINNIE C. BEARD
ARLINGTON, Va. - Minnie C. Beard, a former distinguished federal employee living in Arlington, died at Arlington Hospital in Arlington on Saturday, July 25, 1998.
Born June 24, 1925, at Bloomington, Md., she was the daughter of the late Harry J. and Edith Mae (Elliott) Beard. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Dorsey, Paul and Winfield; and sisters, Margaret Beard and Violet Breckbill.
Miss Beard graduated from Bruce High School in 1942. She also attended the USDA Graduate School and George Washington University, majoring in Business Administration. She retired in 1986, having served 38 years with the U.S. Postal Service and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. While at the Department of Agriculture, she served with the Bureau of Animal Industry, Agricultural Research Service, Agricultural Marketing Service, Foreign Agriculture Service, and the Soil Conservation Service (Natural Resource and Conservation Service.) At the time of her retirement she was in charge of the national Headquarters (SCS) (NRCS) accounting staff. During her career with the USDA, she received many outstanding performance and Superior Distinguished Service awards.
She belonged to the former Gunton Temple Memorial Presbyterian Church, NARF, AARP, National Genealogical Society, Virginia Genealogical Society, and Allegany County Genealogical Society. She was also an Associate of the Smithsonian Institution.
Surviving are one brother, Harry Ray Beard, and wife, June, Keyser, W.Va.; and two sisters, Sarah Haldy Beard, Bloomington, and Mona Fay Beard, Arlington; and many nieces and nephews including Brenda Herndon, and husband, Dan and their son Andrew of the local area.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Tuesday, July 28, from 7 to 9 p.m., and Wednesday, July 29, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted there on Thursday, July 30, at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Sumner D. Sawyer.
Interment will be in Philos cemetery.
LEROY G. CLARK
WESTERNPORT - Leroy Gerald Clark, 65, of 99 Lynn St., Westernport, left home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 13, 1998. He died at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born Oct. 18, 1932, in Westernport, he was the son of the late Thomas S. Clark and the late Sarah (Robertson) Clark. He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Zelda D. Ross and Margaret Brashear.
Mr. Clark retired in July 1987 from the Allegany County Board of Education. He was a member of the Bethel Holiness Church, Lonaconing.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Helen B. (Ross) Clark; three sons, Glenn Clark and wife Donna, Westernport, Rusty Clark and wife Juanita, Winchester, and Mike Clark and wife Liz, Norfolk, Va.; one brother, Charles Clark, Westernport; three sisters, June Diehl, Westernport, Sylvia Duckworth, Moran Manor Nursing Home, and Ella Jean Rizer, Bloomington; three grandsons and one granddaughter, Scott, Jason and Holly, and Michael, who resides with his grandmother.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Saturday, May 16, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Bethel Holiness Church, Lonaconing, on Sunday, May 17, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. George Loar officiating.
Interment will be in the Philos cemetery.
CORNELIA "SIS" CARDER
FROSTBURG - Cornelia E. "Sis" Carder, age 76, of 7 Meshach Frost Village, Frostburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Aug. 2, 1922, in St. Louis, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Mary (Abel) Lubbers.
Ms. Carder was a retired clerk from Prichard's Hardware Store, and was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg.
Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Carney, Frostburg, Nancy Beaman, Frederick, and Diane May and husband, Larry, Flintstone; one son, Robbie Carder, Frostburg; one sister, Agnes Hecht; one brother, Herbert Lubbers, both of St. Louis, Mo.; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
At Ms. Carder's request, her body was donated to the Anatomical Board of Maryland. There will be no visitation.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William Moody as celebrant.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society or to the Maryland Lupus Foundation.
