THOMAS N. BERRY
CUMBERLAND - Thomas N. Berry, 83, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 12, 1915, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Peter Edmond and Mabel (Myers) Berry. He also was preceded in death by one brother, John Myers Berry.
Mr. Berry was a graduate of Mercersburg Academy, Washington and Lee University, and the University of Maryland Law School.
He was admitted to the Allegany County Bar Association in 1941. He continued his membership for the past 57 years, and had served as president.
During World War II, Mr. Berry was a special agent for the FBI, serving in New York City, Seattle, Wash., Spokane, Wash., Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.
He had been a member of the law firm of Chief Judge Walter Capper and William Jenkins in Cumberland.
Mr. Berry began his private law practice in 1949, which continued until his death.
He served in the Maryland House of Delegates for two years.
He was a member of the American Law Institute, Maryland Bar Association, and the New York Bar Association; and was past president of the Cumberland Kiwanis.
Mr. Berry was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, where he had served on the vestry and was registrar for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothea (Hammond) Berry; two nephews, Peter E. Berry II and David H. Berry, both of Cumberland; two grandnieces, Kristal Berry Breeden, Catlett, Va., and Melanie Berry Wartzack, Columbia, Md.; one grandnephew, John Thomas Berry, Clearwater, Fla., and several cousins.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., corner of Greene and Smallwood streets, Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated at Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Saturday at 1 p.m. by the Rev. Edward C. Chapman, Rector.
The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service time.
A private interment will be held at Rose Hill cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Robert S. Paye, Paul Schry, Edward C. Crossland, Gregory H. Getty, Gorman E. "Mike" Getty III, Jeffrey S. Getty, Gary G. Bartik and Daniel Jackson, M.D.

SUEANN M. DAWSON
CUMBERLAND - Sueann M. Dawson, 80, of Cumberland, died Thursday, July 30, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 21, 1917, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Olive (Brady) Ambrose. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Edward B. Nowak, in 1978; one sister, Edith Heller; and two brothers, Sherman and Bud Ambrose.
Mrs. Dawson was a homemaker and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Cumberland.
Surviving are one daughter, Edith Dawson, Cumberland; five nieces, Norma Catlett, and husband, Robert, Marlene Deter, and husband, Sonny, Jean Cole, and husband, Bernard, all of Cumberland, Frances Norfolk, and husband, Joseph, Baltimore, and Lisa English, and husband, Kurt, Florida; two nephews, Don Heller, and wife, Mary Lou, Long Island, N.Y., Jim Ali, and wife, Rhonda, Ridgeley; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Ambrose, Baltimore, and Shirley Ambrose, Florida.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with Pastor James L. McMahan officiating.
Interment will be in Rose Hill cemetery, Cumberland.
SUE DAWSON
LONACONING - Sue (Todd) Dawson, 96, former teacher and principal of Barton and Midland Elementary Schools, died Feb. 12, 1998, at the Cumberland Nursing Home.
Born in Lonaconing on March 28, 1901, she was a daughter of the late Joseph K. and Margaret (Boyd) Todd. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert S. Dawson, in 1950. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was a graduate of Central High School class of 1917, and Frostburg Normal School class of 1919. Mrs. Dawson was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lonaconing, the Allegany Retired Teachers Association, the Morning Star Temple #1, Lonaconing, and the Martha Washington Chapter #10 O.E.S.
Mrs. Dawson is survived by her son, Dr. Robert J. Dawson and wife, Jane, Cumberland; granddaughter Jane Elizabeth Heiertz and husband, Jim, Huntington Beach, Calif.; grandson, Bobby Dawson, Dallas, Texas; and a great-grandson, James Robert "L.J." Heiertz, Huntington Beach.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, on Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Leslie Miles officiating.
Interment will be in Oak Hill cemetery, Lonaconing.
MARY G. BEVER
BLOOMINGTON - Mary G. "Gerry" Bever, 73, of 91 North St., Bloomington, died Feb. 19, 1998, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, W.Va.
Born May 18, 1924, in Franklin, she was the only child of the late DeSales and Bridget Moran. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. Bever Sr., in 1986. She has resided in Bloomington for the past 50 years.
She was Catholic by faith.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann McGoye, Nags Head, N.C., and Susie Donnelly, Westernport; one son, Edward L. Bever Jr., Keyser; and six grandchildren, Morgan, Angel, Angela, Bonnie, Jody and Justin.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, Feb. 22, at 1 p.m. with Father James Hannon officiating.
Interment will be in the Bloomington cemetery.
VIRGINIA S. "JENNY" CLARK
CUMBERLAND - Virginia S. "Jenny" Clark, 81, of Cumberland, died Monday, March 30, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 10, 1916, in Jenningston, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William and Lula (Johnson) Wilfong. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Lawrence Smith and Edwin Clark. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Clark was retired from the Cumberland Macaroni Factory.
Surviving are one son, Paul W. Smith, Baltimore; four daughters, Vivian S. Thrasher and husband, Richard, Street, Md., Juanita M. German and husband, Thomas, Kent Island, Md., Dorothy Y. Twigg, Cumberland, Phyllis Z. Davis and husband, Jerry, Cumberland; 18 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Richard D. Thrasher, son-in-law, officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.
