DAVID JONAS BEILER
GRANTSVILLE - David Jonas Beiler, 63, of 10311 New Germany Road, Grantsville, died Thursday, June 24, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Jan. 12, 1935, in Bellville, Pa., he was a son of Jonas Beiler, Grantsville, and the late Mary (Yoder) Beiler. He moved to Grantsville at the age of 7 with his parents.

On April 12, 1961, he married Mabel Yoder, daughter of Soll and Anna (Troyer) Yoder, who survives.

In addition to his wife and father, he is also survived by his step mother, Thelma (Schrock) Beiler, Grantsville; four children, John David Beiler, Harrisonburg, Va., Mary Frances Heiser, Fisher, Ill., Lamar Dale Beiler, Grantsville, Charles David Beiler, Salisbury, Pa.; a sister, Martha Byler, South Bend, Ind.; and eight grandchildren.

He was the owner of Laurel Run Farm Supply Company. A member of Glade Mennonite Church, he served on a variety of committees and was a Sunday School teacher, a past elder, and past board chairman.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Springs Mennonite Church, Springs, Pa., with the Rev. Alan Kauffman officiating.

Interment will be in Springs cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Glade Mennonite Missions Fund.

WILLIAM G. "BILL" BEIER
CUMBERLAND - William G. "Bill" Beier, 98, of Cumberland, died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at the Lions Manor Nursing Home.
Mr. Beier was born Dec. 9, 1899, in Westernport. He was the son of Ernst Louis Beier and Fredericka Herrick Beier.

After working in the coal mines he came to Cumberland in 1925 where he was the owner and manager of the Greene Street Grocery for 45 years. He resided at 107 Greene St. for more than 60 years.

Mr. Beier served one year as president of the Maryland Independent Grocers' Association and two years as president of the Western Maryland Grocers' Association.

He was an Over 50 Year Member of the B.P.O.E., Lodge #63; lifetime member and past Governor of L.O.O.M., Lodge #271; and member of F.O.E., Aerie #245. He was a life-long member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, Westernport.

Mr. Beier's wife, Margaret (Egan) Beier, died in 1954.

He is survived by a nephew, James Clise, Keyser, W.Va.; three nieces, Anna Kelly, Keyser, W.Va., Margaret Atkinson, Cumberland, and Mary LaRue, Adelphi; and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews who live in the area.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., corner of Greene and Smallwood streets, Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Lodge #63 B.P.O.E. will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

The funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Matthew Riegel officiating.

Interment will be in St. Patrick's cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bob Nave, Dick Huey, Bud Smeltzer, Harry Thomas, James Thomas and Al Comer.

JANE B. DAWSON
BARTON - Jane B. Dawson, 80, of High Street, Barton, died Friday, July 24, 1998, at Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing.
Born Aug. 28, 1917, at Lonaconing, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Bogie) Byers.

Mrs. Dawson worked at the Lonaconing Silk Mill and at the Celanese Corporation during World War II. She attended the Barton Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Barton Senior Citizens.

She is survived by her husband, Roy Dawson, whom she married on June 4, 1955. She is also survived by a sister, Bessie Ricker, Ambridge, Pa.; two nephews; and one niece.

The family will receive friends at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Monday, July 27, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Chapel on Tuesday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Harold Malone.

Interment will be in the Laurel Hill cemetery, Moscow Mills.

OSCAR L. BEEMAN
LONACONING - Oscar Lee Beeman, 92, of Knapps Meadow, Lonaconing, went home to his maker on July 14, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland. He has answered the call in Psalm 95:6, "O come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our Maker."
Born Sept. 3, 1905, in Garrett County, he was the son of the late Henry Thomas Beeman and the late Mary Ann (Clark) Beeman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Flossie Olive (Broadwater) Beeman; a son, Clyde Oscar Beeman; a granddaughter, Donna Clark James; and three brothers, Bertus Beeman, George Beeman and Edward Beeman; also, two sisters, Clara Hacker and Effie Layton.

Mr. Beeman was a retired coal miner. He also was a skilled carpenter and erected many houses in the area, including his own. He was an avid gardener until age 91. Mr. Beeman was a member of the Dunkard Brethren Church, Broadwater Chapel, Savage River Road, for 71 years, and served as head Deacon and in various capacities for many years. Oscar and his wife of 70 years are the parents of "Country Gospel Singers," who ministered in the area for 24 years.

Surviving are three sons, the Rev. Homer Beeman, and wife, Freda, Westernport, Robert Beeman, and wife Saundra, Frostburg, and Roger Beeman, and wife, Sandy, Springfield, Va.; three daughters, Edna Clark, and husband, Glen, Lonaconing, Louise Skidmore, and husband, Stanley, Frostburg, and Lavona Sines, and husband, Ronnie, Frostburg; and a daughter-in-law, Jean Beeman, Frostburg; also, two sisters, Mary Schriver, Barton, and Blanche Klavuhn, Lonaconing; 21 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one on the way. The Oscar Beeman clan totals 95.

Friends will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Wednesday, July 15, from 7 to 9 p.m., and Thursday, July 16, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church, Lonaconing, on Friday, July 17, at 1 p.m., by Elder Virgil Leatherman, Elder Ray Stuber and the Rev. George Loar officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.

The Beeman family conveys special thanks to the Hospice Unit and the staff of Memorial Hospital.

LAYTON G. BEEMAN
ANNAPOLIS - Layton G. "Streak" Beeman, 70, of Annapolis, died Wednesday, May 27, 1998, at the VA Hospital in Perry Point.
Born Dec. 13, 1927, in Lonaconing, he graduated from the University of Maryland in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He served as a Maryland State Trooper from 1952 to 1954. He worked for Nationwide Insurance from 1960 to 1964 and was a health benefits officer with the Department of Defense for 27 years.

He was a private in the U.S. Marines and then was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was awarded three Bronze Stars.

After his retirement, he spent the winter months in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was a member of the Elks Club.

Surviving are his wife, Elaine (Weimer) Beeman, whom he married in Oct 1953; a son, David Beeman, Arnold; four daughters, Barbara Wroten, Arnold, Lisa Hersh, Taneytown, Mary Lyn Hickey, Edgewood, and Jennifer Bernstein, Riva; his mother, Catherine Beeman, Lonaconing; a brother, Paul Beeman, Lonaconing; a sister, Phyllis Nicol, Lonaconing; and 10 grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Mount Savage, on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Sister Joan Minella officiating.

Burial will follow in the St. Patrick's Catholic Church cemetery, Mount Savage.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lonaconing Public Library, c/o Elaine M. Beeman, 15 1/2 S. Main St., North East, MD 21901.
