EVA L. KLIPSTEIN
CUMBERLAND - Eva Leona Klipstein, of Poplar Ave., Cumberland, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born in Rawlings, she was the daughter of the late Joseph N. and Anna B. (Robinson) Skelly. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Freda Marie Klipstein; a brother, William A. Skelly; and sisters, Hyacinth B. Skelly, Mary C. Carr, Genevieve Evans and Gwendolyn G. Hopkins.

Mrs. Klipstein was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and the church Ladies Club. She was retired from the Celanese.

Surviving are her husband, Sherman R. Klipstein; two sons, Joseph R. Klipstein, Rawlings, and John William Klipstein, Cresaptown; a daughter, Linda S. Phillips, Rawlings; four sisters, Freda V. Skelly, Cresaptown, Helen Maires, Los Altos, Calif., Delores J. Webb, LaVale, and Marlene Woolard, Rawlings; a brother, Harry T. Skelly, LaVale; three grandchildren, Michael S. Klipstein, Colorado Springs, Colo., Heather L. Phillips, Rawlings, and Zachary W. Klipstein, Cresaptown; and 13 nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Cresaptown, on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Father Reginald Russo as celebrant.

Interment will follow in the St. Ambrose Catholic cemetery, Cresaptown.

A Christian Wake Service will be held on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Pallbearers will be Michael Webb, John Woolard Jr., Jim Frost, Larry Foley, Dwight Foley, Jim Webb and Scott Lockhart.

Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Klipstein and Chuck Ebeling.

CARROLL FAUSTIN LEATHERMAN
GLEN BURNIE - Carroll Faustin Leatherman, 85, of Glen Burnie, formerly of Hampshire County, W.Va., died Saturday, June 6, 1998, at Harbor Hospital, Baltimore.
He was born on Sept. 15, 1912, the son of the late Dillon and Grace (Whiteman) Leatherman. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Virginia (Ganoe) Leatherman, on March 11, 1997; one brother, Donnell Leatherman; one sister, Maxine Shobe.

Mr. Leatherman had retired from Fort Meade with the Civil Service where he had been employed as a warehouseman.

He was a member of the White Pine Church of the Brethren, Purgitsville, W.Va.

Surviving are two daughters, Rhonda Stasek, and husband, Joseph, Baltimore, Judith Pascoe, and husband, Philip, Hampstead; two brothers, Vestal G. Leatherman, Westminster, Randall W. Leatherman, Bel Air; one sister, Kathleen Thaxton, Vinton, Va.; three grandchildren, Jonathan, Zachary and Drew Pascoe.

Friends will be received at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, W.Va., on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, June 11, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Brian Moreland officiating.

Interment will be in the Ebenezer cemetery, Romney.

Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Veterans Organizations of Hampshire County.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney.

Memorials may be made to the Ebenezer cemetery, c/o Mr. James E. Miller, P.O. Box 111, Augusta, WV 26704.

JOAN A. LEE
CUMBERLAND - Joan Ann Lee, 59, of Columbia Street, Cumberland, died Friday, Sept. 25, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born May 8, 1939, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Forrest Paige Sr. and Pearl (Lewis) Paige. She also was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Lee Sr., in 1989; one brother, James A. Paige; and one sister, Nancy Frazier.

Mrs. Lee worked with Personal Home Care for many years and was a member of Beth Shan Assembly of God Church.

Surviving are three sons, James F. Lee Jr. and wife Belinda, Joseph P. Lee and wife Jana, and John W. Lee and wife Christa, all of Cumberland; three daughters, Joan Ann Lee, Juanita M. Lee and Jeanette R. Lee, all of Cumberland; two brothers, George Paige and Forrest Paige Jr., both of Cumberland; two sisters, Shirley Frazier, Baltimore, and Pearl Brown, Cumberland; 21 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends.

Friends will be received at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home, Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Maryland State Veterans Chapel at Rocky Gap on Monday at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Gregory Georg officiating. Interment will follow.

Serving as pallbearers will be Benson Brown, John Brown, Paul Brown, James F. Lee Jr., Joseph P. Lee and John W. Lee.

EDITH G. KELLEY
CUMBERLAND - Edith G. Kelley, 94, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at Goodwill Mennonite Nursing Home, Grantsville.
Born Dec. 4, 1903, in Keyser, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Joseph G. and Florida (Lewis) Kelley. She also was preceded in death by one sister, Regina L. Fleckinger; and three brothers, Frank K. Kelley, Joseph D. Kelley and William T. Kelley.

Miss Kelley was a secretary for the Kelly Springfield Tire Company, Cumberland, and was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy. She was a Methodist by faith.

Surviving are one sister, Bernadette A. Kelley; one brother, Eugene R. Kelley and wife, June; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Kelley, all of Cumberland; one niece, Betty Welch; one nephew, Joseph Kelley; and a number of great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Arrangements are being handled by the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland.

EDNA E. FERREBEE
RAWLINGS - Edna E. Ferrebee, 90, of 15250 Bier Lane, Rawlings, died Friday, March 13, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Aug. 11, 1907, at Luke, she was the daughter of the late James W. and Elizabeth Rachel (Fazenbaker) Pierce. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas B. Ferrebee Sr. on Nov. 26, 1990, a brother, Norris Pierce and a sister, Madaline Linaburg.

Surviving are one son, Thomas B. Ferrebee Jr., Westfield Center, Ohio; one brother, James Pierce, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; one sister, Helen Dayton, McCoole and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, W.Va., on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Sunday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jerry Eisenhour officiating. Interment will be at Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.

WILLIAM SLEEMAN JENKINS
FROSTBURG - William Sleeman Jenkins, 19 Beall's Lane, Frostburg, died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at his home at age 88.
Born July 8, 1910, in Allegany County, he was the oldest of eight children of the late William E. Jenkins and Elizabeth Sleeman Jenkins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phoebe Roberts Jenkins and a son William Stephen Jenkins.

Mr. Jenkins is survived by three sisters, Mrs. George Young, Cumberland, Maryland, Mrs. Russell Bell, Townson, Maryland, Mrs. Thomas Wheeldon, Richmond, Virginia; two brothers, Philip J. Jenkins and Jonathan Jenkins both of Frostburg, Maryland. Also surviving him is his daughter Linda Jenkins Armbrust, Boyce, Virginia; three grandchildren, William Jenkins, Frostburg, Maryland, W. Stephen Jenkins, LaVale, Maryland, and Stephanie Jenkins Miller, Hyndman, Pennsylvania; and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Jenkins graduated from Beall High School in 1927 and Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pennsylvania, in 1931, where he played varsity football and basketball. He was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and later served as a Trustee of this college from 1953-1981. In 1934 he graduated from Harvard Law School, Cambridge, Massachusetts.

He entered into a law partnership with the Honorable Walter C. Capper and practiced in Cumberland until he retired from the bar. In 1936 the Mayor and City Council appointed him City Attorney for Frostburg, where he served for many years. During World War II he also served as attorney to County Commissioners of Allegany County.

In addition to his practice of law, Mr. Jenkins was affiliated with his father and brothers in the operation of both the deep mining and surface mining of various coal properties, formerly owned by the Consolidated Coal Company.

Mr. Jenkins was president and chairman of the board of the Frostburg National Bank, Frostburg, Maryland, from 1964-1973, and chairman of the board from 1973-1981.

In 1960, he was elected to the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Cumberland, where he became president two years later. He promptly initiated its merger with the Second National Bank of Cumberland. The merged banks, ultimately named the First National Bank and Trust Company of Western Maryland, were later merged into the First National Bank of Maryland.

Throughout the years of his several careers, from the practice of law to coal mining and finally to banking, he was active in community and national organizations and various sports. Mr. Jenkins served as President of the Board of Director for Miners Hospital from 1960-1970. He was former director of the Royal Order of Jesters; a member of the Allegany County Bar Association, the Maryland Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Frostburg Rotary Club, Demolay Alumni, the Ali Ghan Shrine Club, Frostburg Elks, and Scottish Rite of Free Masonry.

For many years he was Master of Foxhounds of the Chestnut Ridge Hunt. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting grouse, quail and woodcock; golf was perhaps his favorite. He belonged to the Cumberland Country Club, Quail Ridge Country Club, Boynton Beach, Florida, and the Broken Sound Country Club, Boca Raton.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg, Maryland, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Private graveside services will be conducted Friday at Frostburg Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to either the Western Maryland Food Bank, 917 Gay Street, Cumberland, MD 21502; or to the Allegany County Head Start, 441 North Centre Street, Cumberland, MD 21502.
