JOSEPHINE L. LARUE
WESTERNPORT - Josephine Leona Abernathy LaRue, 86, of the Frostburg Village Nursing Home, formerly of 421 Hammond St., Westernport, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Sept. 26, 1912, in Westernport, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Lena (Dunk) Abernathy. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard T. LaRue; three sisters, Velma Irene Wilson, Leola Mildred Biser and Agnes Margaret Abernathy; and a great-grandson, Christopher Symon Strong.

Mrs. LaRue was a former employee of McIntyre's Bakery and Jake's Market.

Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth Ann "Libby" Symons and husband Elwood "Woody," Barton, Lois LaRue Thompson and husband Sylvester "Eck," Baltimore; five grandchildren, Debby Strong and husband, Dick, Westernport, "Vicky" Burt and husband, Bob, Midland, Thomas Thompson and wife, Kimberly, Ronny Thompson and wife, Crystal, and Johnny Thompson and wife, Audrey, all of Baltimore; eight great-grandchilldren, Michelle, Teresa, Nathan, Ronny, Gregory, Michael, Connor and Cody; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph Jarrett officiating.

Interment will be in Philos cemetery, Westernport.

RUTH C. FLETCHER
CUMBERLAND - Ruth Cecilia Fletcher, 94, formerly of Cumberland, died Monday, Feb. 16, 1998, in LaCrosse, Wisc.
Born Jan. 28, 1904, in Cumberland, she was a daughter of the late George V. and Ella Mae (Christie) Fletchinger. She also was preceded in death by seven brothers; and four sisters.

Surviving are a son, Raymond E. Leidinger, Cumberland; two daughters, Dorothy L. Gordon, Middle Granville, N.Y., and Dr. Virginia L. Brown, LaCrosse, Wisc.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Private interment will be conducted in Cumberland at a later date.

HELEN W. KIGHT
OAKLAND - Helen W. Kight, age 89, of LaPorte, Ind., formerly of Oakland, died on Sunday, May 17, 1998, at the LaPorte Hospital.
She was born Sept. 13, 1908, in Keyser, W.Va., and was a daughter of the late Edward M. Umstot and Edna (Dawson) Umstot. She also was preceded in death by her husband, C. Melvin Kight, in 1997.

Mrs. Kight, along with her husband, owned and operated Kight's Cleaners in Oakland for many years.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 51 years. She was a graduate of Keyser Hospital of Nursing, and held an RN degree. She was the first recipient of the Oakland Citizen of the Year award, and was a 50-year member and Past Worthy Matron of Oakland Chapter 67 Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by one son, Jack M. Kight, LaPorte; two brothers, Haven D. Umstot and Paul W. Umstot, both of Keyser; two sisters, Mabel Umstot, Greenville, S.C., and Edith B. Amtower, also of Keyser.

Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Oakland Chapter 67 Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Lawrence Sherwood and the Rev. Roger Harrison officiating.

Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.

The family requests memorials take the form of contributions to St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

REVEREND KARL R. KANNENBERG
LITTLE ORLEANS - The Reverend Karl R. Kannenberg, 72, of Little Orleans, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at the Lions Manor Nursing Home.
Born Jan. 14, 1926, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Reinhold and Yetta (Kammerer) Kannenberg.

Rev. Kannenberg was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy.

He retired in February 1998 from the Maryland Department of Agriculture, having been a meat and poultry inspector.

In January 1991 Rev. Kannenberg retired from the United Methodist Church, having last served at Calvary United Methodist Church, Ridgeley, W.Va.

He was a member of Piney Plains United Methodist Church, Glen Burnie Lodge #213, A.F. & A.M., Gold Star Post #6452, V.F.W., Ridgeley, and D.A.V. Chapter of Dundalk.

Survivors include his wife, Varnie (Larsen) Kannenberg; one son, Robert L. Kannenberg, and wife, Donna, Greencastle, Pa.; one daughter, Janet L. Sandve, and husband, Brian, Sierra Vista, Ariz.; two sisters, Martha Lubunyz, Glen Burnie, and Evelyn Geresbeck, Pasadena; two granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., corner of Greene and Smallwood streets, Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

The body will then be taken to the George J. Gonce Funeral Home, P.A., 4001 Ritchie Highway, Brooklyn Park, where friends will be received on Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Alan Smith officiating.

Interment will be in Meadowridge Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Piney Plains United Methodist Church, c/o Rose Boggs, Mann Street, Little Orleans, MD 21766.

EVELYN J. JOHNSON
CUMBERLAND - Evelyn June Johnson, 83, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, June 16, 1998, at the Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit.
Born June 25, 1914, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Vessa (Swain) Twigg. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Johnson; one son-in-law, Dr. David C. Shade; one sister, Helen M. Fisher; and one brother, James Twigg.

Mrs. Johnson was the Director of the Senior Center on Greene Street and was named Woman of the Year in 1976 for her work with the seniors in Allegany County. She also was a former teaching assistant in Allegany County. She was a graduate of Connellsville High School, Connellsville, Pa., and a member of the Southminster Presbyterian Church, where she was very active.

Surviving are two daughters, Joyce E. Shade, LaVale, and Susan L. Gill and husband Clyde, Muscatine, Iowa; five grandchildren, Dawn L. Jackson and husband Kyle Whetsel, Cumberland, Lisa G. Plant and husband Thomas, New Market, Erin C. Jackson, Alexandria, Va., Gregory D. Gill and wife Heather, Muscatine, and Jenifer L. Gill, Muscatine; and six great-grandchildren, Vanesah, Nicholas and Alex Noechel, Jordan and Logan Gill, and Riley Christine Plant.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Bernadette Ross officiating.

Interment will be in the Mountain View cemetery, Sharpsburg.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Whetsel, Greg Gill, Tom Plant, John Close, Robert Fisher and Edward Fisher.

GLADYS V. JOSLIN
KITZMILLER - Gladys Virginia Joslin, 83, formerly of Kitzmiller, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, in the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born April 29, 1915, in Kitzmiller, she was a daughter of the late John and Minnie Wilson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Joslin; and one son, Fred Friend.

She is survived by four sons, LeRoy John Friend, Terra Alta, W.Va., Arthur Friend, Beltsville, Henry Friend, Fort Villa, Ind., and George Friend, Stroudsburg, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Michael Daniels officiating.

Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery, Elk Garden, W.Va.
