BERTRAM "BUD" FRIEDLAND
CUMBERLAND - Bertram "Bud" Friedland, 72, of Cumberland, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born April 19, 1925, in Altoona, Pa., he was the son of the late Robert and Ida (Schmitt) Friedland.

Mr. Friedland was retired from the Cumberland Electric Company after 23 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Beth Jacob Congregation Synagogue, Cumberland, Potomac Lodge 100 A.F. and A.M., Scottish Rite Bodies, Ali Ghan Shrine Club, and the Algonquin Forest 140 Tall Cedars.

Surviving are his wife, Melva J. Friedland; one son, Dr. David M. Friedland and wife, Michelle, Pittsburgh, Pa.; two daughters, Holli Friedland, Baltimore, and Beth J. O'Donnell and husband, Bruce, Cumberland; one sister, Bernice Mandell, LaVale; six grandchildren, Heather Friedland, Jacob Friedland, Sarah Friedland, Kevin O'Donnell, Emily O'Donnell and Melissa O'Donnell.

Services will conducted at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. with Rabbi Scott Gurdin officiating. The Potomac Lodge 100 held a service on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be in East View cemetery.

The family requests that contributions be made to the Cumberland Chapter of Hadassah or the American Cancer Society.

Serving as pallbearers will be Leonard Schwab, Curtis Haines, Earl Wilson, Jack Powell, Gregory Lewis and Michael Lewis.

A. MARIE FRIEND
OAKLAND - A. Marie Friend, 56, of High Street, Oakland, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at the Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born Dec. 1, 1941, in Swanton, she was the daughter of the late Harry C. and Martha S. (Lee) Rodeheaver. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Friend, in 1991; and by one brother, Harry E. Rodeheaver.

She is survived by one daughter, Wendy L. Friend, Swanton; two sisters, Louise Beckman, Loch Lynn, and Kay Harvey, Deer Park; several nieces and nephews; and two great-nieces.

Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Gail Hixon officiating. Interment will be in the Glendale cemetery, Swanton.

CICELY L. KIMMELL
OAKLAND - Cicely L. Kimmell, 88, of 13 W. Liberty St., Oakland, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, at the Cuppett Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born Jan. 28, 1909, in Garrett County, she was a daughter of the late Ernest G. Burgess and Margaret (Lee) Burgess. She also was preceded in death by two husbands, Howard R. Biggs, in 1961, and Harry Kimmell, in 1974.

Mrs. Kimmell was a retired licensed practical nurse, and a member of the Fairview Church of the Brethren.

Surviving are one daughter, Mary L. Moon, Crumpton; one son, Russell E. Biggs, Baltimore; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the Fairview Church of the Brethren on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Moon and the Rev. Elmer Cosner officiating.

Interment will be in the Fairview cemetery.

BURLDINE A. FRIEND
OAKLAND - Burldine A. "Duty" Friend, 84, of Hutton Road, Oakland, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998, at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Sept. 16, 1913, in Crellin, she was the daughter of the late Stephen D. and Jane (Shaffer) Sanders.

Mrs. Friend was a member of the Crellin United Brethren in Christ since 1943, and served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. For more than 27 years, she worked as a clerk for Rudy's Department Store, Oakland, and was a member of Oakland Lodge 11, W.O.W.

Surviving are her husband, Arthur W. Friend; one son, Larry A. Friend, Springfield, W.Va.; one sister, Vonda McIntire, Oakland; and one granddaughter, Amy Profet, Raleigh, N.C.

Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Mudge officiating.

Interment will be in the Oakland cemetery.

JOHN EUGENE FRIEND
FRIENDSVILLE - John Eugene Friend, 78, of 754 Old Morgantown Road, West, Friendsville, died Monday, April 6, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born June 2, 1919, at Cuzzart, W.Va., he was a son of the late George D. and Lulu (Casteel) Friend. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Marie (Rohrbacher) Friend, on July 21, 1985. Mr. Friend was a retired electrical engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

He is survived by two daughters, Christina L. Howell, Mountain Lake Park, Eugenia S. Sweeney, Germantown; a brother, George Donald Friend, Greenville, S.C.; and three grandchildren.

Family and close friends may call after 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Newman Funeral Home, Friendsville. Private graveside services will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Blooming Rose cemetery with the Rev. Mark Hickman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Garrett County Memorial Hospital or the Northern Garrett County Rescue Squad.

JAMES A. HITE
PITTSBURGH - James Alton Hite, 55, of Mount Oliver, formerly of Bedford, died Monday, March 23, 1998, in Pittsburgh.
Born May 23, 1942, in Bedford, he was the son of the late Luther and Ruth (Price) Hite.

Mr. Hite was a former property manager and real estate broker. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Cumberland, Md., and the Syria Temple of Pittsburgh.

Surviving are his wife, Lucy (Coffey) Hite; son, James Hite and wife Kristen, Boardman, Ohio, and one grandson; brothers, Edward Hite and wife Pamela, Dayton, Ohio, and Rick Hite and wife Fawn, St. Louis, Mo,; sister, Barbara (Hite) Sweitzer and husband Andrew, Flintstone, Md.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, March 26, 1998, at 1 p.m. at the Bethel cemetery, RD 3, Bedford, with the Rev. John Hollis of the Bedford Valley Bible Church officiating.

The John J. Gmiter Funeral Home, 119 S. 15th St., Pittsburgh, is in charge of arrangements.

IRIS V. FRIEND
LOCH LYNN - Iris V. (Stahl) Friend, 64, of East Second Avenue, Loch Lynn, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998, at her home.
Born Oct. 18, 1933, in Turner Douglas, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late George D. and Bertha (Nair) Stahl.

Mrs. Friend was pastor of the Friendsville Assembly of God Church for 20 years. She also was pastor of several other churches. She was a volunteer for the Mountain Top Food Pantry. She attended the Glendale Assembly of God where she was a Sunday School teacher. She also was a member of the Potomac District Assembly of God.

She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Eugene Friend, Loch Lynn; two daughters, Carolyn G. Hauser and husband John, Oakland, and Linda L. Beckman and George, Pleasant Valley; two sisters, Mary Wagner, Oakland, and Martha J. Foster, Morgantown, W.Va.; three brothers, Albert Stahl and wife Louise, Fairmont, W.Va., Lawrence Stahl and wife Patricia, Tacoma, Wash., and Bill F. Stahl and wife Patricia, Tacoma; and five grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Glendale Assembly of God on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Gail Hixon and the Rev. Paul Goldizen officiating.

Interment will be in the Oakland cemetery.

The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the Hospice of Garrett County, P.O. Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550.

DAVID L. KENDALL SR.
ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. - David Lewis Kendall Sr., 91, formerly of Ellerslie, Md., died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, at Hernando-Pasco Hospice, Zephyrhills.
Born Feb. 17, 1907, in Ellerslie, he was a son of the late Samuel and Aldia (Burns) Kendall.

Surviving are two sons, Samuel and wife Janet, Ellerslie, and Michael and wife Shirley, Bedford, Pa.; a daughter, Nancy K. Devore, Zephyrhills; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by wives, Ethyl (Wisler) and Grace Kendall; and several brothers.

Mr. Kendall had been a self-employed painter. He was the oldest member of West Side Baptist Church, Zephyrhills.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, Pa., on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ken L. Korns officiating.

Interment will be in the Hyndman cemetery. Chad and Jeff Kendall and Charles and Steven Wisler will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
