MARY R. JACKSON
FROSTBURG - Mary R. Jackson, a lifelong resident of Frostburg, died on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late John and Alice (McDonald) Jackson. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph and Edward Jackson; and one sister, Esther Jackson.

Surviving are two sisters, Margie Byrnes, Lutherville, and Catherine Thompson and husband, James, Rockville; a sister-in-law, Joan Jackson, LaVale; and many nieces and nephews.

Miss Jackson was a graduate of the State Normal School, Frostburg, and in her early years she taught in the public and parochial school systems. She later became a seamstress and practiced her profession until retirement.

She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, and The Sodality of the Virgin Mary at St. Michael's Church.

Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. The Christian Wake Service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Church on Friday at 10 a.m. with Father Paul A. Byrnes as celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Michael's cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to St. Michael's Elementary School.

WANDA E. JONES
DEER PARK - Wanda E. Jones, 73, of Church Street, Deer Park, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born Sept. 18, 1924, in Deer Park, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Margaret M. (McDonald) Sollars. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene F. Jones, in 1987.

She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Deer Park.

She is survived by one daughter, Jeanne F. Plauger, and husband, Jerry, Mountain Lake Park; three grandchildren, Joelle Plauger, Baltimore, Charles Plauger, and wife, Jennifer, Mountain Lake Park, and Janice Plauger, at home; one grandson, Joseph Plauger; and three aunts, Loretta Mox, Bessie Friend and Rosalie Wrightsman, all of Deer Park.

Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Gail Hixon officiating.

Interment will be in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.

BETTY L. GREENE
CUMBERLAND - Betty Lou Greene, 68, of Cumberland, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 17, 1929, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Ralph K. and Bertie (Leach) Portmess. She also was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Flora; and one brother, Therman Portmess.

Mrs. Greene was employed at the South End Cleaners, and was a 1947 graduate of Fort Hill High School. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the church Sodality, Sanctuary Society, and the Martha's Group.

Surviving are her husband, Robert M. Greene; one son, Michael W. Greene and wife JoAnne, Oakland; two daughters, Pamela S. Baran and husband Jeffrey, Parry Hall, and Patricia K. Pescrille, Bel Air; two sisters, Thelma Hart, Youngstown, Ohio, and Barbara Swan, Short Gap, W.Va.; four sisters-in-law, Shirley E. Greene, Cumberland, Joy P. Sines and husband Chuck, Kissamee, Fla., May Bowers and husband Melvin, Martinsburg, W.Va., and Rose Marie Schaffer and husband Ronald, College Park; and nine grandchildren, Amy L. Baran, Lori A. Baran, Jill M. Baran, Kathy D. Baran, Katie M. Greene, Robert M. Greene, Daniel C. Greene, Brandon M. Pescrille and Lindsey M. Pescrille.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be held at 4 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Milton A. Hipsley as celebrant.

Interment will be in the St. Mary's cemetery.

DOROTHY M. KAVE
LAVALE - Dorothy Mae Kave, 84, of LaVale, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at her residence.
Born March 7, 1913, in Memphis, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Frederick Charles and Elizabeth May (Day) Gerbing. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse M. Kave, on Aug. 18, 1987; a twin sister; and two brothers.

Mrs. Kave was a housewife. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution; and a charter member of the LaVale United Methodist Church.

Surviving are nieces Barbara Burkett, LaVale, Mary Lou Bucy, LaVale, Gretchen Storer, Middleburg Heights, Ohio, and Laurel Fischer, Hillside, Ill.; and a nephew, Fred Gerbing, Littleton, N.C.

The Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, is in charge of arrangements.

Private graveside services will be conducted with the immediate family.

BETTY LOU GREENE
CUMBERLAND - Friends will be received for Betty Lou Greene at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Mary's Catholic cemetery on Monday at 10 a.m.

Pallbearers will be Gene Sewell, Ronald R. Schaffer, Ronald F. Schaffer, Daniel Schaffer, Richard Schaffer, Melvin Bowers Sr., Melvin Bowers Jr., and Michael Greene.

There will be a Christian Wake service held on Sunday at 4 p.m.

Interment will be held at St. Mary's cemetery.

PHILIP HOLSHEY
CUMBERLAND - Philip Holshey, 83, of Cumberland, died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland.
Born Jan. 1, 1915, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Michael Holshey and Mary Dorsey (Lambert) Holshey. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 60 years, Olive Loretta Holshey; and four brothers, Steve, Peter, John and Nicholas; and one sister, Mary Crites.

Mr. Holshey was a lifelong resident of Cumberland and a lifelong member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Following his retirement as supervisor of maintenance from the Allegany County Board of Education he spent much of his time collecting antiques and historical artifacts relating to the Cumberland area that he loved.

Surviving are his two sons, Michael L. Holshey and wife, Kathleen, Fairfax, Va., and Edward L. Holshey and wife, Jonelle, Millersville; one sister, Anna Keister, Augusta, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Michael Holshey and wife, Susan, Ann Michelle Holshey, Rebecca Schiek and husband, Will, David and wife, Donna, and Meredith Haskell and husband, Mike; and seven great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., on Monday, Nov. 2, between 2 and 4 p.m. and 7 and 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted there on Tuesday at 1 p.m. by the Rev. Mark Dill prior to interment in Sunset Memorial Park.

ALBAN T. FRYE
FROSTBURG - Alban T. Frye, age 93, formerly of 46 Douglas Ave., Lonaconing, died Sunday, March 15, 1998, at Moran Manor Nursing Home.
Born Oct. 8, 1904, in Lonaconing, he was the son of the late David and Isabella (Naismith) Frye. He also was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Mr. Frye was retired after more than 40 years of service from the Celanese Fibers Corporation Service Department. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lonaconing.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews including William Frye and wife, Darlene, Frostburg.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George A. Aist officiating. Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.
